Export Produces 2-second MOV

I've made plenty of movies in the past half year, and haven't changed my export settings, but after completing a 13-minute video, today, my export took only 3 seconds and produced an all-black 2-second MOV file.
I can't seem to figure out what the problem might be. The file size is just 598KB, so obviously, it's not a full-sized movie. Has this happened to anyone else?
Please help!

Wow. That was embarassing. But to be honest, I wouldn't have thought to look there. Thanks, so much, for the help! I really appreciate it. Everything's working like it used to, now. I'm not even sure how I accidentally set those short in/out points. Too bad full movies don't take two seconds to export like that.

  • Export produces 1 second shifts

I am exporting from iMovie 6, .dv to Mpeg-4. When I do, I'm getting a little shift in the video about every second.
    How do I fix this?

When you say "..a little shift in the video.." do you mean that the video jumps (up, down, left, right) or that it gets out-of-sync (out-of-step) with the audio?
Was the video + audio originally recorded on DV tape, or did you import it into iMovie from some other source, such as a stills camera?
Have you been using American (NTSC) video in a European (PAL) project, or vice versa?
    Any other details..?

  • Export settings for quicktime movie to use in DVD Studio Pro

    The workflow:
I created a movie and did extensive sound adjustments in iMovie and a few video edits, and exported it to a quicktime format:
    compression H.264
    Quality: High
    Frame reordering: yes
    Encoding mode: multi-pass
    Dimensions: 1280x720
Since then I upgraded to FCS, and tried to create a DVD with DVD SP and import the movie, and I get this error:
    Import error:
One or more files failed to import. Common reasons for this are that they do not match the current project's video standard or their file format is not supported.
I'm fairly sure I have matching video standard...and the file format has always been supported before.
I imported the quicktime (.mov) file to FCP and added some edits, recreated the chapter markers, and early on there was a pop-up that said my movie format did not match the project settings, so I checked the "okay" to adjust the video file to match.
When I finished, I exported the file from FCP to a quicktime movie with the "current settings" that have always worked with DVD Studio Pro before, and I'm getting the same error.
I don't know where the problem is.  Both the original movie I created in iMovie and the movie I recreated in FCS will import to iDVD.  I wanted the better quality production from DVDSP....
I no longer have the iMovie project file.  (I thot I was done.)  I do  have the original footage, but I'm already three days in and hoping to  avoid starting over.
I would sure appreciate any help!
    Thanks!

The specifications you listed are the problem.
I can't comment on iMovie -don't use it personally.
From FCP, you would export a self contained movie using the current Timeline settings (not H.264 ever)
Bring that file into Compressor and apply one of the time based DVD presets that the running time of your movie fits into. This will produce a MPEG 2 video file and an AC3 audio file. Bring both into DVDSP and author.
A DVD video is always standard def 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL).
Converting the output from FCP to H.264 is adding an unneeded compression stage that will compromize quality -because DVD assets are always MPEG 2 / AC3. Even if DVDSP accepts that H.264 file, it gets transcoded again using DVDSP's own compression system.
All of this is covered in the DVDSP user manual. Take the time to read it. DVD authoring is complicated if you just jump in and start poking around, simple if you take the time to understand the basics.

  • Export Audio to QT Movie -- Expected Behavior and Other Questions

In the past I've reported that the Export Audio to QT Movie function didn't work correctly in LP 7.1.1. Well, it still doesn't seem to work correctly, but this time around I'm at least getting some kind of result. It would be kinda cool if I could get it to work according to play.
I'd like to get comments on this procedure, i.e., what kind of behavior should I expect; am I doing something wrong, etc.
    • The movie (25 minutes long) starts with a 19-second slug (no timecode burn) followed by first picture with timecode burn starting at 00:00:19:00
    • Movie Start Time = 00:00:00:00.01 (the extra bit is to work around a bug)
    • SMPTE time for bar 1 1 1 1 = 00:00:19:00
    • L & R locators set to the position & length of audio I want to export to the movie (L = bar 1 and R = bar 14)
    • Cycle = ON
    • Selected a single region of audio (track 1, outputs 1/2)
When I invoked the export function, I was presented with a dialog:
Immediately I notice that there is no 24-bit option (comments?)
    Then I encountered this message:
The file listed there is the dialog track for the movie. No problem there. Now, keeping in mind that my file is only 13 measures long (at a fairly fast tempo),
Logic then performed a very long "bounce" procedure, followed by a long "converting" procedure, followed by a "saving" procedure (in which it was writing the new QT movie file).
In the resulting movie (which BTW was the full length of the film) the audio was waaaaaaay out of sync. But aside from that, is it normal to expect that the full-length of the film will be exported? I was expecting that perhaps only the first 13-measures-worth of movie would be exported. (comments?)
So I tried again. This time I moved the song end marker to bar 14 and invoked the export function. I got all of the same dialogs as above, but the "bounce" procedure took no time at all. Neither did the "converting" procedure. I expected this, as now Logic was set to think that the song was only 14 measures long. But the "saving" procedure took as long as last time.
In the resulting movie (which was again the full length of the film), the audio was again out of sync, though not by much. Still unusable tho. Again, should I expect that only a short clip of the movie would be exported? Or, should I expect the full length movie to be saved? (comments?)
    -=iS=-
P.S. BTW, the reason my movie start time is set to 00 and not 19 seconds is because... well, that's the subject of another thread, but save to say that the above settings were the only way I could get first picture to line up with bar 1 of my song.

    Thanks for your reply George.
I normally use QT Pro to embed audio into picture also. Thought I'd try this route one more time tho.
Regarding my movie start time, I'm finding that if I set my movie start time to 19 seconds (where the burn-in first becomes visible, and which is indeed 19 seconds into the film), my SMPTE offset has to be 38 seconds. This means that Logic's t/c counter doesn't jibe with the film. So to make it so I have to enable the SMPTE view offset in the synchronization pane. But enabling it there doesn't automatically switch it on for the Giant SMPTE counter transport display.
Anyway, back to the subject at hand. I'll try the settings you suggested and see if that makes a difference.
Bouncing a chunk of movie always works perfectly here <<</div>
Can you clarify something? I know you said that you end up with a null file when you try the export thing, but in your above statement, did you mean that when you've tried this that it did in fact export a chunk of the movie, but without audio?
    Cheers!

  • Why is Premiere Pro telling me it will take over 24 hours to export a 55-second clip with no audio or effects?

Why is Premiere Pro telling me it will take over 24 hours to export a 55-second clip with no audio or effects? It's never done this before, but this is driving me nuts. I'm almost finished with this project, I can't have this kind of stuff happening now.

Forgive me. I'm just stressing hardcore at the moment.
    Specs:
    OS X 10.9.4
    2.8 GHz intel
    Premiere 5.5
exporting cell phone video which has been treated with effects and layered with other clips from cell phone video, then nested as one single video clip, now trying to export as H.264 (DV 24fps)
Full disclosure: I am an amateur so if you need more info just tell me and I'll produce it if I can. I should note though, I've done this before with no problem. However the settings may have been different (still getting the hang of the whole 'settings' thing, to be honest). It's very possible that the problem in this case is the operator, in other words.

  • Export a only a Movie Clip

I am building an interactive website as my final project for my Webmastering class and need to know one thing. First I'll give you my setup. I have four Movie Clips in four seperate layers on my main timeline. I want to export one of those Movie Clips as an avi file. When I use export>movie, it exports the main timeline. I figured it would do that. So then I opened up the Movie Clip that I want to export and tried the same thing again. No luck. Anyone have any ideas on how to remedy this situation. I have five days to do this and have spent about four days of my life working on this if you add up all the hours that I have spent working on this. I really really need help. I don't want it all crashing down on me because I can't simply export a movie clip...
    Thanks in advance,
    Darth Haxor

Create a new blank document with the same parameters - size, fps, etc. - as the one the movie clip you want to export is on. Have both documents open at the same time. Select the new document by clicking on its tab, and then open the library window.
On top of the library window is a drop down list of all libraries that belong to currently open documents. Go there and select the library of the original document. From that library grab and drag the movie clip you want to export onto the stage of the new document you created. Position it where it belongs. Now you can export this new document, containing only the one movie clip you want to export.

  • Exporting to Quicktime or movie in IMovie

When I purchased my mac they told me to export the movie to Quicktime and save to the desktop. That way when I opened Idvd I could drag the movie over to Idvd. It takes an extremely long time for the export to take place. Today I tried exporting to "share to movie". I used a 84mb dv file and it took about 10 minutes using "share movie" and about 50 minutes using Quicktime. I then made dvd's of each and played them on my blu ray player hooked to a 50" LCD projection TV. Frankly, I could not tell the difference in the quality. I did the same with video I captured with my HD camcorder and again, I could not tell the difference. My question is--Is there an advantage to using "export to Quicktime" and if so, what would it be? When I purchase an HD burner would the answers to these questions change? In my opinion, using my PC with pinnacle was a much better program, but I bought a mac when I purchased the HD camcorder. Thanks

I have the exact same problem. I export the movie and it comes out lighter than the original everytime. I have used quite a few of the different options and codecs and can't crack this nut... So far my only work around is to darken the movie in imovie first and then export it to get what I want. Not a good work around needless to say.

  • Export part of a movie

How do you export part of a movie to Quicktime after setting in and out points?
    Thanks for your help

I believe this is correct. Although I haven't had the need for Compressor yet (therefore haven't bought it yet), as far as I can tell and have heard, you export the entire thing into Compressor at which point you can mark in and out points for the compression and export of your final product. It can't be done in FCPX alone, unless you duplicate your project and delete chunks of it to export only the parts you want.
