Export QT from AVID Meridien to play on Mac

A friend exported a short video via quicktime on his AVID Meridien system although he's convinced it's adrenaline. The video will not play but I do hear audio. The AVID is using qt 7.3 and I'm at 7.5. Is there a codec you folks are familiar with I can use to help me past this so I can edit on my FCP.
Thanks

Open the video in Quicktime and so a Apple Key + I (eye) to get info on the codec being used. It may be a Avid codec so you might need to visit Avid's web site to get the codec.

  • Trouble exporting Quicktimes from Avid Express Pro?

Hello! I'm operating Avid Express Pro version 4.3.0 on a G5 Mac OS 10.3.9 and I recently upgraded to QuickTime 7.1.5. I can no longer export quicktimes from Avid Express Pro because it is not compatible with this version of Quicktime. It's only compatible with QT 6.5.2. I've tried to use the reinstaller 6.5.2 and it doesn't work as it cannot seem to find 6.5.2 on my system. I now can't load 6.5.2 as I already have a higher version of quicktime on my system. I've tried deleting QuickTime files and starting from scratch and did delete a few items, but dragged the majority back into my computer from the trash as I realized I didn't know what I was doing and which 3rd party programs also utilized QuickTime.
If I wish to reinstall QuickTime 6.5.2 but the reinstaller won't work, what would you recommend?
    HUGE thanks!

It's built into the File Export function of iPhoto 9 (11).  Select what every photos you want and use that option to put each photo in a folder with the Event title it came from as in this test of six randomly picked photos:

  • Exporting Video from Avid to Final Cut Pro

I saved video clips from Avid Adrenaline as .mov files and burned to disc. When I try to open disc, I have audio but no video. This may be a Quick Time issue, but I am out of time. Does anyone know an easy way for me to get the video out of Avid into my system?

additionally, you might want to export some sample color bars along with your media. I have found there is a rather drastic color shift, that took two CC filters to correct for, when following this workflow.

  • Export video from multiple iOS devices to a Mac without using iTunes

I am tasked with importing video files from multiple iPads to a single Mac to aggregate for editing.
The file sizes on each device are many gigs large. I don't want to use iMovie on the Mac or iOS.
I don't want to use iTunes (since there are many iPads not owned by me to import video from).
    Suggestions?

iTunes. Other than that there is no direct method. However, do try the iPhone forums.

  • Exporting video from Avid editor to MPEG-4

HELP!!!! I have an internet film contest to enter by the end of this week. I have finished editing it on AVID XPRESS PRO and tried to export it as an MPEG-4(it was a requirment) AND a QT movie onto my desktop. When I play it out, there's audio, but the video is a snowy pink/green/white mess. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE someone explain to me in layman's english what I have to do to make it play right. I have invested almost $2,000 in my film and for it not to be shown because of this error will be VERY dissappointing.

Do you have QT-Pro? If so, try exporting from the Avid as a QuickTime reference movie, then using QuickTime Pro to export the reference movie as an MPEG-4 QuickTime movie (or just as an MP4 file). It only takes a few seconds to create the reference movie (as that just references the Avid OMFs on your media drive) but I have found that QuickTime Pro's export features often work better than Avid's.
That's particularly true when I use the 3ivx codec with 2-pass output...there isn't any way to do the second pass using Avid's export utility, but QT-Pro allows for it.

  • MOV exported from FCP7 won't play on Mac

iMac with OSx 10.5.8. My daughter exported a movie from Final Cut Pro at her film school into mov format. It shows as HDV. We were told that MPEG 2 would allow us to play this, so I purchased that add-on, but no luck! Quicktime just vaguely tells us that it needs a codec, but no clue as to what.
I've installed perian in the hopes that this might help, but also nothing. We get a black screen for video, but can hear the audio. She's actually just going to cut it to a DVD tomorrow, but we run into this issue frequently trying either to import things into Final Cut Pro or watch what has been exported out, and it would be nice to know how to fix the issue so that we can see this obviously awesome movies she's creating
    Any help appreciated.
    Danita

HDV isn't a MPEG-2 video so the playback component you brought won't help. HDV is an editing format not a delivery format. Your going need Final Cut Pro on your computer to be able to play the video. The work around is for your daughter is to send you the video in the h.264 format. All Macs and Windows (if the have Quicktime 7 installed) computers can play this video format.

  • Exported Movies From iMovie Won't Play on ATV2

I'm trying to make a DVD (more about that on another thread - iDVD ARGH!) for my kids nursery. I have 25 minutes of footage which I just want to split into two, title up and burn to disc or make available for download. The footage came from a Flip camera. If I convert to MP4 using Handbrake the entire clip plays really well on my Apple TV 2 via iTunes. If I caption or put titles on a clip and export from iMovie the content will not play on the ATV2. Anyone got any tips?

Well, tried to play the files in itunes and they don't, just sit there waiting to play but never start! The one I put back through Handbrake does play though so I have a workaround. However, I don't think I should be having to do this should I? I know iDVD is flaketastic but thought iMovie was pretty solid. Maybe some prefs that are wrong somewhere?
Edit: Just realised that I've been a bit light on detail there. Opened Handbrake, selected the file I exported from iMovie (rather than published to iTunes) and then chose the ATV2 preset, set frame rate to PAL (I know I didn't need to do this), put a HB suffix on the file, created the file and then added it to my iTunes library.

  • HD movie from iTunes will not play on Mac Mini

Having bought an HD movie from iTunes I can not play it on my Mac Mini.
Just get audio and Grey and white grid.  Controls are there but invisible. Why?
It will play on my Macbook Air?
I hve got no help from iTune support!
    Thanks

I spoke to Apple Care today and they told me to reset the VIdeo Card preferences by re-starting the mini whilst holding down command/Alt/P/R until a second start tone sounded.  It seemed to sort out my problem.
But the real reason why it worked was that I had plugged in a keyboard and was not controling the Mini using Screen sharing (via Macbook Air) as I normally do. As soon as I went back to screen sharing the movie would not play again.
So if you are playing movies on a mini don't control using screen sharing.

  • Proper Codec, Wrapper for Export From Avid to Import to Final Cut

    Hi all,
Ugh, I am sadly working in Avid these days for a new employer. Talk sbout what seems to be a never ending headache! I am currently in the process fo sharing some raw stock footage clips with another organzation in another state. My thoughts on workflow at this point are to export high quality quicktimes from Avid and dump to data DVDs for mailing.
I am exporting 1080i footage shot on an Ikegami HDS V10 which is transcoded and P2 1080i footage which is consolidated into Avid.
I started with a couple of test files exported with a quicktime wrapper and 2 different codecs:
    1Same as Source, Animation codec
    2)None codec
I have FCS3, Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 at home and tested these Avid files there this morning. FCP was unable to read either of the codecs. THe same files are easily imported and played back in Premiere Pro.
Is anyone aware of a codec download for FCP that allows it to read these Avid files? If that is the only solution I can ask the video recipient to be sure ot sintall that, and will do so myself at home. Or is the problem related ot the codec created by Avid upon consolidation/transcoding? I do have to perform a video mixdown in Avid on all my Ikegami (Long GOP Media) clips before being able to export Same As Source, Animation Codec.
    Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? THanks! ----Lindsay

Why so sad? Avid Media Composer is a great editing system.

Ah...and I guess that they don't use Avid...
My thoughts on workflow at this point are to export high quality quicktimes from Avid and dump to data DVDs for mailing.
You won't be able to fit large high quality exports onto DVDs. A couple minutes, max. Hard drives...you need to put footage on hard drives.
Is anyone aware of a codec download for FCP that allows it to read these Avid files?
YOu need to download and install the AVID codecs on your FCP system.

  • Exporting HD footage from AVID Adrenaline

I have some raw HD footage (1080P) that I want to export from AVID Adrenaline and import into FCP 6.0.2. I'd like to keep the loss of quality to a minimum. Which AVID Codec should I use to export the footage?

I don't have an AVID, so you need to determine that

    (1) Can the exported video from FCP X play in WMV?

No to both. You need third party software to create WMV. Telestream has tools for this.

  • Exporting from Avid to use in FCP

I have a personal project that I edited on an Avid, but want to export the sequences as Quicktime files to use as source material to finish on FCP 5.0, then author a DVD on iDVD.
It's for personal use, so it doesn't have to be flawless, but I want it to look as good as possible.
With so many variables, does anyone have a combo that seems to work well? I've tried a bunch, including:
-- RGB vs 601 color space
-- DV codec vs Sorenson Video 3
    -- Odd-field vs Even-field Dominance
Nothing I've tried yet is cutting it, but I might not have the right combo of settings yet.
I've heard great things about Automatic Duck, but I'm not looking to lay out more $$$ for a personal project.
    Any thoughts? Thanks!

Export to QT from Avid using the same codec that the source material originally was... i.e., DV or HDV etc... The "Animation" codec is likely the least lossy, but it creates huge files, and it's not the friendliest codec out there...
But FWIW, the very best thing to do is export an XML file from the Avid or simply a batch list importing the file into FCP, then recapture it as it's native format in FCP... reason is, that Avid compressed the video to capture it, then you're recompressing it to export it to QT with the intention of recompressing it yet again in iDVD which is a bit too much compression being done..
