Export Safari 1 Bookmarks to Safari 2

Running OS 10.3.9 on my PowerBook with Safari v1. Need Bookmarks on my new Mac Intel 10.4.4 running Safari v2. Don't want to just clobber the .plist files for Safari in case they are not compatible. Tried Safari Bookmark Exporter, doesn't have a Safari Export option.
How do you get Safari v1 bookmarks into Safari v2?

Kenneth,
For reference, I have Safari 1.3.2 on my Panther iMac and Safari 2.0.3 on my Tiger iMac.
Just to support Miriam's suggestion without using the term "export"...
Find the Bookmarks.plist file in ~Library/Safari Folder of your PowerBook, make a copy of it and use the Safari>File>Import Bookmarks feature of your new machine.

  • I need to export my bookmarks to Safari. I can't find the "Organize bookmarks" tab that has the export feature. Help?

I was trying to export my bookmarks to Safari and the instructions were to: Go to Bookmarks - select "Organize bookmarks" and "export to HTML". I can't find the "Organize bookmarks" tab on my tabs bar.
This came about because Firefox would not let me access my On Star account (kept getting error messages about a mis-direct).

Menu changes (wording), "Organize Bookmarks" under the Bookmarks menu has been changed to "Show All Bookmarks -- Ctrl+Shift+B" with the same keyboard shortcut. They didn't like the new wording either and it is expected to be changed in a later version (but no further changes seen yet in betas).
I always use the keyboard shortcuts anyway.

  • I have a Mac Book Pro with OSX 10.6.8 and I want to export the bookmarks from Safari into Firefox 7.0.1?

Safari is version 5.1 on my Mac Book Pro.

Make sure that you are not running Firefox in permanent [[Private Browsing]] mode.
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy, choose the setting '''Firefox will: Use custom settings for history'''
    * Deselect: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"
Check if any Downloads are in progress. Wait for them to complete or cancel the downloads.

  • I just opened Foxfire and it automatically imported bookmarks from safari, but not all of them. How can I get the rest of them ?

I still have Safari on the computer with all my bookmarks. Not all of them came over to Firefox. How can I get them over. Also I had some in the toolbar that displayed over the window. Does this browser have that feature?

Export the bookmarks in Safari to an HTML file and import that file in Firefox.
    See:

Did you manage to export the bookmarks in Safari to an HTML file like posted above?
You need to do that first.<br />
Then you can open the HTML file in a (plain) text editor to check whether sections that start with "<H3" have a FOLDED attribute.<br />
If that is the case then you need to remove all the occurrences of the FOLDED attribute and save the file as plain text.<br />
After that you should be able to import the file in Firefox.

  • Exported Safari Bookmarks (Safari bookmarks.html) arrive in MyDocuments but not in Firefox, how to get them into Firefox Bookmarks?

Five months ago, I imported my Firefox bookmarks into Safari. In that time, I have added many bookmarks to many of the bookmark folders in Safari. Now, I am trying to import back into Firefox all of the existing Safari bookmark folders including the added bookmarks. Tried exporting from Safari using File, Export Bookmarks, which does get them into MyDocuments\Safari bookmarks.html, but I am unable to get them into Firefox where they would enable me to uninstall Safari and free up some room on my hard drive. Maybe they are there in Firefox, but need to Find them?

Did you import the HTML file?
    * Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML : "From File"
Bookmarks that you import are usually appended at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder.<br />
If you do not see them there then try to use the search bar to see if they show up.<br />
If that also doesn't show them then it is likely that something went wrong with importing the bookmarks.<br />
Does that file display correctly if you open it via "File > Open File" in a Firefox tab?

    Hi Gil,
Have a look at XMarks. That might do what you are after:

  • How do I export bookmarks in Safari 1.3.2?

In the throws of retirement, I use a lot of online services. Since this is so, I have the pw's and login's edited onto the bookmark. My password and usernames remain relatively the same, with nuances of each. For those to come after me, who will need to get into the sites for account cancelation, how do I export the bookmarks into an editable word processor?
Also... I was thinking of upgrading the OS and Safari versions, but after seeing the slings and arrows of the upgrades... my 1.3.2 works just fine thank you!
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I'm not sure what you were told about Keychain, I automatically store all my passwords and accounts there. It would seem the easiest solution for you, and if your User password (which is normally the same as the one used for Keychain) were written down somewhere accessible, opening keychain for "those who come after you" would be easy and they would be able to see all your accounts.
Upgrading your OS is a choice only you can make, but I am using the latest iteration with no problems, although I will say that Safari clogs up after a couple of days use and has to be closed and reopened to make it speedier.
    Good luck,
    Miriam

  • How to export Safari bookmarks to Chrome?

I love the iPad Mini, but Chrome has some knockout features - like single-line URLs, and queries you can dictate. How can I export my Safari bookmarks into my Chrome Browser on the Mini?

I think this information is stored in
    /Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I've no idea if it's possible to read it (opened in TextEdit, it's encrypted).
But I wonder if it's possible to use a unix command that concatenates the two Form Value files on each Mac into one? If you want to try this make sure you keep a back up of each original Form Value file belonging to each Mac before messing about. Safari should be closed too.
Copy both files onto a single Desktop, you'll need to name them uniquely, say FormValues1 and FormValues2 (note no spaces) then type this command in Terminal (Applications/Utilities):
    cat ~/Desktop/FormValues2 >> ~/Desktop/FormValues1
Then rename FormValues1 back to the original name of Form Values and move it back into the correct folder:
    /Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I expect you'll have duplicate values in that file now and I've no idea how Safari will handle this scenario, maybe it will clean up but so long as you keep a copy of the original Form Values files you can restore the status quo afterwards. Good luck.

  • Export Safari bookmarks via FireWire target disk mode?

FYI There is NO "export bookmarks" in my Safari File, as there should be.
I need to export my Safari bookmarks via firewire from a G4 to a G5. BUT I can't find anyway to export them. Please help!

What I believe Hawaiian_Starman ment, is once you have the G4 drive mounted on the G5 you can transfer files. It's easy to do this by FireWire Target Disk Mode. The drive will show up with the FW symbol. At that point just copy the old bookmark file into your home directory:
copy "FW Hard Drive"/Users/{username}/Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist to ~/Library/Safari/
Where "FW Hard Drive" is the name of the external drive on the desktop. {username} is your old username on the external drive. ~ is you home directory on your internal hard drive.
Make sure you have Safari quit before copying the bookmark file over.
Also if you want to network the two computer together just on a temporary basis, just plug in an ethernet cable between the two. Have both computers booted up. On the G4, (the computer you want to to copy files from) open the System Preferences and turn on Personal File Sharing. On the G5, Select Network from the Go menu. You should see the G4 listed in "My Network" I believe. Just log in and start copying whatever files you need.
Personally, I use Firewire as it's easier and you don't need to worry about file permissions.

  • Exporting Bookmarks from Safari

I seem to have a problem with exporting bookmarks from Safari - it flat out doesn't work. I select the File \ Export Bookmarks... item, Safari pops up a 'Save As' dialog, I tell it to save, and it does nothing.
    Never creates a file.
Anyone have any ideas about this?

Bingo! Never tried the desktop as I never save anything there, always to a specific file or folder on one of my 3 partitions.
