Export safari bookmarks menu

Hi all,
I just bought a new powerbook and would like to bring my current bookmarks to the new powerbook. Can anyone please tell me how to do that, thanks.

Your bookmarks are stored in a file called Bookmarks.plist and it is located in the Safari folder in the Library folder on Finder's Home Page (~username/Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist). Copy the file onto a usb flash drive or something, or mail it to yourself as an attachment, and put it in the same location on the new computer.

  • Exported Safari Bookmarks (Safari bookmarks.html) arrive in MyDocuments but not in Firefox, how to get them into Firefox Bookmarks?

Five months ago, I imported my Firefox bookmarks into Safari. In that time, I have added many bookmarks to many of the bookmark folders in Safari. Now, I am trying to import back into Firefox all of the existing Safari bookmark folders including the added bookmarks. Tried exporting from Safari using File, Export Bookmarks, which does get them into MyDocuments\Safari bookmarks.html, but I am unable to get them into Firefox where they would enable me to uninstall Safari and free up some room on my hard drive. Maybe they are there in Firefox, but need to Find them?

Did you import the HTML file?
    * Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML : "From File"
Bookmarks that you import are usually appended at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder.<br />
If you do not see them there then try to use the search bar to see if they show up.<br />
If that also doesn't show them then it is likely that something went wrong with importing the bookmarks.<br />
Does that file display correctly if you open it via "File > Open File" in a Firefox tab?

  • Export Safari bookmarks via FireWire target disk mode?

FYI There is NO "export bookmarks" in my Safari File, as there should be.
I need to export my Safari bookmarks via firewire from a G4 to a G5. BUT I can't find anyway to export them. Please help!

What I believe Hawaiian_Starman ment, is once you have the G4 drive mounted on the G5 you can transfer files. It's easy to do this by FireWire Target Disk Mode. The drive will show up with the FW symbol. At that point just copy the old bookmark file into your home directory:
copy "FW Hard Drive"/Users/{username}/Library/Safari/bookmarks.plist to ~/Library/Safari/
Where "FW Hard Drive" is the name of the external drive on the desktop. {username} is your old username on the external drive. ~ is you home directory on your internal hard drive.
Make sure you have Safari quit before copying the bookmark file over.
Also if you want to network the two computer together just on a temporary basis, just plug in an ethernet cable between the two. Have both computers booted up. On the G4, (the computer you want to to copy files from) open the System Preferences and turn on Personal File Sharing. On the G5, Select Network from the Go menu. You should see the G4 listed in "My Network" I believe. Just log in and start copying whatever files you need.
Personally, I use Firewire as it's easier and you don't need to worry about file permissions.

    Hi Gil,
Have a look at XMarks. That might do what you are after:

  • How to export Safari bookmarks to Chrome?

I love the iPad Mini, but Chrome has some knockout features - like single-line URLs, and queries you can dictate. How can I export my Safari bookmarks into my Chrome Browser on the Mini?

I think this information is stored in
    /Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I've no idea if it's possible to read it (opened in TextEdit, it's encrypted).
But I wonder if it's possible to use a unix command that concatenates the two Form Value files on each Mac into one? If you want to try this make sure you keep a back up of each original Form Value file belonging to each Mac before messing about. Safari should be closed too.
Copy both files onto a single Desktop, you'll need to name them uniquely, say FormValues1 and FormValues2 (note no spaces) then type this command in Terminal (Applications/Utilities):
    cat ~/Desktop/FormValues2 >> ~/Desktop/FormValues1
Then rename FormValues1 back to the original name of Form Values and move it back into the correct folder:
    /Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I expect you'll have duplicate values in that file now and I've no idea how Safari will handle this scenario, maybe it will clean up but so long as you keep a copy of the original Form Values files you can restore the status quo afterwards. Good luck.

  • New iOS 7 Safari bookmark menu colored icons

When a bookmarked website doesn't have their own favicon, how does Safari decide which color it will use for the default icon? In other words, why is one black, one gray, and one red?

When a website doesn't have a favicon, the default icon is the grey icon with the compass.  If there is an "apple-touch-icon" (https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/AppleApplications/Referenc e/SafariWebContent/ConfiguringWebApplications/ConfiguringWebApplications.html) in the HTML, it shows that.  If there is just a regular favicon, it picks the color from that.  I'm not sure exactly how it does it (maybe the most abundant color).  I haven't seen anything in the HTML of the pages to determine it.

  • Can I export Safari bookmarks to Firefox?

Safari is so slow, I would like to switch to Firefox. Is there an easy way I can transfer my bookmarks from one to the other?
    Many thanks!

Wow, thanks for the speedy reply on transferring the bookmarks. I had already downloaded Firefox, but found the place where I could transfer bookmarks....and the deed has been accomplished.
About speeding up Safari: I've dumped the cache and the preference file. I've also reset Safari a couple of times, and trashed some other files that someone else said to get rid of. The only thing I haven't done is dump the
favicon file. I see where the file entitled ICONS is...do I trash that whole thing, or certain things within the folder?
Thanks again for your help! I LOVE having my bookmarks in both Safari and Firefox!

  • Import FF Bookmarks into Bookmarks MENU

    Hi all,
Thinking about moving back to Safari 3.2 from FireFox. Wondering if there is a way to import my thousands of FF bookmarks into the Safari bookmark menu so I don't have to go to Show All Bookmarks or use Bookmarks as my startup page in order to access said bookmarks.
Also, any thoughts as to why, when I log into Discussions with Safari, it will keep my log in name, but not my password, while FireFox always keeps both my log in name and password so I can just click one button to log in?
    Thanks

    Hi M,
move them all to the Bookmark Menu group, which you can do from the sidebar of Show All Bookmarks.
It seems like I remember one used to be able to do what you're suggesting, but my imported bookmarks are in a folder in the sidebar, and the Bookmarks Menu shows up as a blue icon, definitely not a folder. I'm looking for some way around opening every single address and then saving in to the Bookmarks Menu.
The other problem you mentioned could be any number of things such as your Security preference settings, your Keychain, AutoFill problems, etc.
Hmmm, as I said, it works fine with FireFox, and with any/all other protected sites I've tried . . . . I'm running 10.4.11 on an 867MHz TiBook with 768MB RAM.

  • My firefox 4 bookmarks menu does not offer :Organize Bookmarks, so where do I find this feature?

My goal was to export my bookmarks menu to a memory chip, so there'd be a backup. i clicked on Bookmarks (firefox 4) and the menu of bookmarked items appeared, but the item Organize Bookmarks was not there. I searched around and eventually found an Organize tab in Library, but there was no clue about how to export the full menu to the memory chip. can you steer me to the appropriate place for starting the export process?

Use "Show all bookmarks" menu. It works same as "Organise bookmarks" menu in previous Firefox versions.

  • How can I import Safari bookmarks to my iPhone 6

I simply want to export Safari bookmarks from my Mac to iPhone 6. I do not want to use cloud. ITunes lets me sync contacts and calendars (along with music, movies and all the other crap I do not want to sync) but does not offer me the option  of syncing safari bookmarks. How the **** do I do it?

How? You use simply iCloud. That's your only choice.

  • I need to export my bookmarks to Safari. I can't find the "Organize bookmarks" tab that has the export feature. Help?

I was trying to export my bookmarks to Safari and the instructions were to: Go to Bookmarks - select "Organize bookmarks" and "export to HTML". I can't find the "Organize bookmarks" tab on my tabs bar.
This came about because Firefox would not let me access my On Star account (kept getting error messages about a mis-direct).

Menu changes (wording), "Organize Bookmarks" under the Bookmarks menu has been changed to "Show All Bookmarks -- Ctrl+Shift+B" with the same keyboard shortcut. They didn't like the new wording either and it is expected to be changed in a later version (but no further changes seen yet in betas).
I always use the keyboard shortcuts anyway.

You can make Firefox '''Firefox 5.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.18, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 5.0, or 4.0.1, look like 3.6)]. In my Library/Internet Plug-ins folder I have a file named Flash Player.plugin (it's 22.8 MB however, not 23.9mb) and another named flashplayer.xpt (it's 4 KB however, not856 bytes).
I am unable to open the Plug-Ins menu (the browser pops up but wont load)...is there another way to check for Shockwave Flash?? When I do a search for "Shockwave" on my hard drive I do find a plug-in named "DirectorShockwave.plugin" (76 KB)
Also...The "Open using Rosetta" checkbox was already unchecked
