"Export selection as MIDI file" problem...

Hi, i'm having some trouble when exporting my MIDI tracks to MIDI files. I select File, Export, Export selection as MIDI file and when i listen to the midi file, it's the same rhythm pattern but the instrument is a piano instead of the instrument it was originally.
What the ****'s wrong! am i doing something wrong? I'd be really grateful if someone could solve this for me as i don't have a lot of time, it's for a college assignment!

You're not doing anything wrong......if you are using Quicktime to preview the exported MIDI file the piano is from the Quicktime Synthesizer....

  • Exporting Lyrics with Midi FIle(s)

    Hello forum,
I was asked to post here also, just in case.
In Logic Express, is it possible to import/type lyrics and sync them to a specific "Midi Melody Track" then, export the midi file (type 1) with the lyrics embedded?
If not sure, can any of you fellow musicians test this for me? After saving the midi file, you can load in "QMidi" from http://www.mixagesoftware.com/
All help and feedback is greatly appreciated,
    Thank you

    Hello musicspirit
    Yes, you can.
Sonar an all Cakewalk products have this feature and it works very nice.
Select the melody track, open the score editor which will show just the melody track notes only, copy or paste the lyrics in the lyrics window and hyphenate for words and syllables. Done!
Sibelius has it also, but I heard it's not the greatest and then Cubase, but I wanted to go with Logic if at all possible.
    Thank for the reply

  • Export selection as audio file

    Hey,
I can export a selection to a MIDI file, I can export a region to an audio file, and I can export a track to audio file. But I can't export a selection of audio regions to a new audio file. Anyone know why this is, and if there's a work-around? I tried setting locators to the selection and exporting the track to new audio file, hoping that with the locators active, it would only export the section of the track I had within the locators, but no such luck, it still exported the entire track into the new audio file.
If this is something simple, sorry for wasting your time. But it would save me a lot of time if I can export my selected audio regions as a new audio file instead of the entire track.
Thanks very much in advance for your help.

Well, you learn something new every day.
Indeed. A bad day is when I haven't. To find out about the mono bounce was new to me too, as I only use stereo files - even for mono sources.
Never occurred to me that I could change the OUTPUT from stereo to mono, though I'm aware of that control for individual tracks.
And I say to that, "Duh." seems pretty straight forward. And less steps than using the glue tool.
    Thanks very much.

    You're welcome!

  • Drag and Drop Midi file problem

    Hi,
I have a simple mid file downloaded from internet that quicktime plays perfectly well, however, when I try to drag and drop it into an empty logic 8 project, all I get is a simple track with virtually no midi info (and no sound whatsoever).
Is there anything I have to do to import a midi file? I know I have to assign instruments and stuff, but this doesn't seem to be correctly added. I have almost never worked with midi files, but I remember Logic (and GarageBand) used to create all the tracks and such.
Any ideas what could I be doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance.
    Martin.

    Be aware that:
Midi files from the interweb nearly always have volume and pan info at the start before any notes, which will often drive your faders to plus 6, so consider deleting that info before you start.
Yes, I've seen those (tho it took me some time to realize why my faders were at 6 when I pressed play… :S
Also, something that made me pull my hair out, if a midifile has an organ, you'll see notes, but they wont play, because the organ plugin only works on midi channels 1, 2, 3, which I think relate to registers and pedals, so you may have to do a little copy/pasting, reassigning.
    Thanks for the Tip!!

  • Export - Track as audio file problem

    Hi,
I think I've found a very serious bug:
I have an audio file in my arrange window. Now I'm going to export the track and I copied the last bit of the audio file to play 2 times. But when I export the track Logic ignores that little edit.
When I bounce the track everything is fine. What's the problem?

Now I have tried everything I could think of. Trashed prefs, made a new track, new arrangements, new computer. You name it.
But see for yourself! Download this zip and try to export the first track. You'll see that the last hihat shot is not present in your newly created audio file - whether it's 24 or 16 bit, wav or aiff.
Then try to export the merged track. Then it gets even more crazy. The last shot is still not there!
Download the little package here and try it out (10 MB): http://www.transferbigfiles.com/Get.aspx?id=6f9d82da-4eff-4147-a5f2-a154c6c271a8

  • Exporting as a quicktime file problems

    Hi,
I am using Premiere Pro 2.0
I have a 16:9 project, and have 16:9 footage, when I save as a .avi it plays in widescreen
The project I am doing requires a .mov file, with h.264 compression.
Whenever I do this, the file ends up playing in quicktime as a 4:3 file instead of 16:9
I got no idea what im doing wrong

I thought quicktime was the best player for .mov
Well, it's A player for MOV, but at least the PC version, has all sorts of issues, even with what should be its native format. Many try to keep it out of the mix, as much as is possible. It seems to also have issues with gamma.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Can't Export Standard MIDI Files in Logic 9.1.1 .... ?!?!

    Hi Everyone,
So I just upgraded to Logic 9.1.1. I was working on a simple MIDI project pre-upgrade in which I exporting all the tracks and data as a standard MIDI file, all fine and dandy. Now today, with upgrade, I have the same project, and whenever I select all the regions and choose File>Export>Selection as MIDI file as I ALWAYS did, Logic creates a file with an extension of ".logic" instead of ".mid" and displays in Finder as "Logic Pro Project" - what the **** is going on? Is it me?
Thanks in advance for any help!!

uh oh, that sounds no good.
What happens if you just manually change the name of the file itself, ie, in the finder, replace the .logic with .mid? Obviously you shouldn't have to do such a thing, but have you tried just to check if it is indeed a real midifile, but that has been saved with the wrong creator ID?
In any case, you should report this possible bug right away at Logic feedback.

  • Export .mid files: Contains instrument sound

    Hi all,
Using logic 9 and I want to export a bar as a midi file, but also to contain the instrument sound/information.
So for example, I have a midi instrument of a kick drum and when I exported 'selection as midi file', I want it to play this kick drum sound. Currently, when I export, the midi file defaults to a Piano sound.
Is this Logic performing normally? Is there anyway for the kick sound to export, without converting to an audio file?
It has to a .mid file, as it is going to used in Python for a interactive project.
    Thanks guys.

    Thanks Data Stream Studio.
I have created Software instrument tracks, so I just copied the midi file, to the External MIDI track and followed your instructions.
But I have also created synthesised sounds, guitars, bass etc. as well, which I need to convert. But when I follow your instructions in regard to their channel I end up with the piano sound.
Example - I have a bass synthesiser sound. I copied the MIDI from the software instrument to a External MIDI. I changed the channel to 2, and program 38 for Synth Bass, but I end up with the standard piano sound.
Is there something I've missed here?
    Thanks.

  • Consolidate midi files into one midi file

    Hi.
I have some midi files that I would like to consolidate into one midi file.

First import both of them in one project, then select all the MIDI you want included, then *Export>Selection as MIDI File.*

  • Exporting song as midi ...

when creating a song using vst instruments and exporting as a midi file...the midi file joins all tracks into a single channel midi file 0 , how can I export as a midi file type 1?  Thanks Guys

Should be clear after raiding this, I hope!
    >>>Export MIDI regions as standard MIDI files You can export one or more MIDI regions as standard MIDI files, to play in another music application. If your project contains only MIDI regions, you can merge the regions and export the entire project as a MIDI file. Before exporting, you need to perform several steps to prepare the MIDI regions.
Because Standard MIDI file type 0 format files can only save a single MIDI region, you must also join MIDI regions you want to export as a MIDI file in file format 0. You can do this by selecting the regions and choosing Edit > Join (or use the Glue tool).
Prepare MIDI regions for export 1 Control-click the regions, then choose MIDI > Normalize Region Parameters from the shortcut menu.
2 Control-click the regions, then choose MIDI > Apply Quantization Destructively from the shortcut menu.
3 Convert any aliases to region copies by choosing Functions > Region Alias > Convert Alias to a Copy from the Tracks area menu bar (or use the Convert Alias to a Region Copy key command).
4 Convert all loops into regions by selecting the loops and choosing Convert > Convert Loops to Regions from the shortcut menu.
5 Convert all MIDI regions on each track into a continuous MIDI region by choosing Edit > Join > Regions per Tracks (or use the Join Regions per Tracks key command).
6 Insert all instrument MIDI settings as events by choosing Functions > Insert Instrument MIDI settings as Events from the Tracks area menu bar.
Export one or more MIDI regions as standard MIDI files 1 Select the MIDI regions to export.
2 Choose File > Export > Selection as MIDI File.
3 Choose the destination directory, enter a name, then click Save. The selected MIDI regions are saved as a Format 1 MIDI file.
Note:  If you're exporting MIDI files to use with a hardware sequencer, you may need to limit the filenames to an 8.3 character name; such as “proj0001.MID.”<<

  • Standard Midi File Import/Export Questions

    Hi,
I'm having some trouble with Standard MIDI files, in that, after exporting them, and importing them back into another Logic project to test them, some of them will split/demix. That is, instead of one MIDI region appearing, it imports as two MIDI regions, with the notes of the part split between the two regions (the notes seem to split according to velocity, not note value).
Here is my question related to this:
Is it possible to export a Standard MIDI File for each "part" in a project, rather than one SMF for all the MIDI files in a project? (i.e., create one SMF for each software instrument track)? This is what I'm trying to do. The reason is that I'm trying to prepare and save some MIDI files to include with the audio files in a remix pack, and, since it's likely that the various remixers will be using different DAWs such as Cubase, I'm assuming that a SMF that includes all the various parts might not import into their program correctly. Is my assumption wrong? I.E., will most DAWs, like Cubase, etc., correctly import a SMF that includes all parts, and upon import split those parts correctly?
I'm following all the instructions for "Saving Standard MIDI Files" from the Logic Pro manual, except that I am not merging all the different instruments' MIDI regions together; I'm only merging each individual parts' MIDI regions.
    Thanks!

Well I think the problem is solved. There was a conflict between Logic and iLife 06. I bought a new computer this week and had to load everything into it. I decided not to put in iLife 06 yet including Garageband and all the jam packs. I loaded all the new .caf files off the Logic DVD
I opened a midi file and all tracks loaded with Logic instruments. the problem was that a lot of the instruments had been erased somehow or over written by Logic studio. Now I believe they are all there and things are working as they should

  • Midi Files Don't Work In FCE..and I don't have Quicktime pro to export it

    Hi there,
I am working on a project in Final Cut Express 1.0.1
I have a MIDI sound file that will not import into the application. Also, I don't have quicktime pro to export that file to a mp3 or aiff.
Does anybody know if their is a free plugin that will allow me to export my midi file or import it into Final Cut.

Try this, it may work -
Set iTunes Preferences > Importing > Import Using > AIFF Encoder
Set the AIFF Encoder preferences to 16 bit, stereo, 48KHz
Add the MIDI file to your iTunes library. This may convert your Midi file to AIFF.
If not, once the MIDI file is in your iTunes library,
Select the MIDI file in your iTunes library
Go to the Advanced menu and select 'Convert to AIFF'
Then export the AIFF file to your hard drive
Then import the AIFF into FCE

  • Garageband to MIDI File Conversion?

Is it possible for me to use Logic Express to open .band files (created by GarageBand '08) and export them as MIDI files for opening in Sibelius 5 for scoring?
    Thanks in advance!

As long as the .band contains midi information on software instruments or something else. Audio will not work.
(Sorry if you knew that, just wanted to clarify)

  • Exporting 7.2 song files

does anybody know how to export logic 7.2 song files to logic 4.8 or equivalent. read manual but that option doesnt appear in my > file > export menu.
    G5 2.0 ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I don't think there is a "Direct" way anymore. In version 6, there was an "Export as 4.8" option, but that has been removed. If you, or someone you know, has version 6 still active on their system, you could perhaps get the song back to version 6, and then go from there.
Keep in mind the differences between version 7 and version 4 are quite significant, so it's possible that option was eliminated simply because they aren't even close to compatible anymore. For starters, the OS's are different. version 4 was OS 9 only, and version 7 is OSX only.
Another option, would be to "Export All Tracks As Audio" from version 7, and then simply import all the audio files into 4.8. Or if it's MIDI only, perhaps Exporting as a MIDI file would work, at least as far as getting the MIDI information transfered.
