Export/Share to ATV2 takes 9+ hours?

I've created a project in FCPX that's about 58 minutes long.  The source files were from an AVCHD Canon camcorder saved in a dedicated WD Caviar Black scratch disk.  I "shared" it to produce an Apple TV 2 compatible file but I'm somewhat surprised that it's going to take close to 10 hours to render the file.  Is this normal?  My machine is a 2008 Mac Pro (2x2.8 Quad Core Intel Xeon) with 10 GB RAM and upgraded ATI Radeon HD 5770.  BTW, I'm running this on Lion.  Can people share their render times when "sharing"?

Apple has never been known for fast encoding software, and usually third party solutions (even free ones) do much better than Apple's offerings -- especially presets like the Share menu.
Maybe Compressor would give more flexibility and better performance?

Overall export as HTML progress take 6 hours to do it, and then the software crash. I try with FTP upload and same thing happen. Never upload or export any pages.
All Linked graphics (Assets) are ok. No warnings messages on the Warnings Pannel.
Now my page is down for this Muse CC problem. This never happen with the old version.
Please Help as soon as possible
    this is my website vidamusik.com

From the log it appears Muse may be having trouble re-importing one or more PSD files at export time.
It also appears you may be working with the .muse file and most (all) your images stored on network volume (E: drive)?
Working directly from a file server will be many many times slower than working with the .muse file stored locally. Not because the throughput on your network is slow, but because the latency for each individual read or write request is thousands of times slower over even a fast network than it is when accessing a local hard drive or solid state drive. When working with your .muse file Muse will be making thousands and thousands or read and write operations. If the time to initiate each of those operations is slow, working with Muse will be very slow.
Please do a test for me. Copy the .muse file to your local hard disk and temporarily either unmount your E: drive or rename a folder in the path to all the images (so Muse can't find them). Then open the .muse file and export to a local folder. Muse will report all the links as missing. That's fine. That's what we want for the test.
How long did this export take? My expectation is one minute, or less. Please let me know one way or the other and we'll go from there. Thanks.

It's not a good idea to use a network disk for both Time Machine backups and other things.  By design Time Machine will eventually consume all the space on its output disk, which will then cause problem for your other files.  I'd store those other files on an external disk connected to the Time Capsule.  The problem with that is that Time Machine will only back up files that are local to your Mac.  That means that you'll only have one copy of the files on or attached to your Time Capsule.

  • Exporting an 8-minute 1080p movie in MPEG-4 takes 4 hours?

    Hi,
I just want to make sure there's nothing wrong with me, my usage of Final Cut Express 4.0.1, or my MacBook. I'm new to Final Cut Express and to video editing.
I have a Canon camcorder which records AVCHD videos in 1080i. When importing video, I have to add a de-interlace filter on it so it doesn't look interlaced after export (which reduces the quality a bit, I found -- should I record in PF30 rather than 60 fps?). When rendering the video, it takes around 30 minutes for an 8-minute video. I know this is probably normal.
What I'm wondering is alright or not is the time it takes to export the processed 1080i video into an MPEG-4 1080p video. I'm exporting an 8-minute video right now and it's estimated to take 4 hours!
I have the impression iMovie may be able to export this kind of video faster. Is it normal for FCE to take so long to export such a short movie in MPEG-4?

So I should not deinterlace in FCE? I tried exporting a movie without deinterlace before and the exported movie looked interlaced.
The sequence I'm exporting right now is quite simple. There's only one 8-minute video on one video track, stereo sound on two audio tracks, a fade-in, a fade-out, and a 10-second lower third on a separate video track.
I am not too sure what I'll do with a full-resolution MPEG-4 file. The only way for me to display a 1080p movie would be on my MacBook or if I connect the video output to an HDTV. I may want to upload the file on YouTube, Facebook, or Vimeo, for example, but I doubt any video-sharing site supports 1080. Also, exporting it to a DVD will probably not require 1080 and I do not have a BluRay disc burner.
And now, by the time I'm done writing this reply, the export finished successfully. It didn't take four hours, but maybe around 1.5 hours. However, when looking at the video, the quality is terrible.
I must say I'm at a loss here. Is there anything I'm not doing properly?

  • Does saving video/rendering take 4 hours?

    Hi,
I just bought myself a brand new computer because I couldn't do anything with Adobe Premiere Elements 12 on my old computer.  Here is what I have on my new computer if this helps.  I am not a technical person so I have no idea anything about anything technical.
    Processor
    4th Generation Intel® Core i7-4500U (1.8 GHz 200 MHz 4MB)
    Operating System
    Windows 8.1 64
    Graphics
    Intel® HD Graphics 4000
    Memory
    4.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz
    Hard Disk Drive
    Hybrid 500GB 5400RPM + 8GB SSHD
I am trying to do basic editing.  I have a bunch of little .avi files that I am trying to upload and edit into one long family video.  I've done that, edited out what I want.  Added some text title dates and I am rendering/saving as an MPEG file.
It takes 4 hours to render to an MPEG file?  OMG!  And then I wanted to eventually download it to a DVD.   Does it have to the the 4 hours over again?  And it's very slow.  Is it supposed to be so slow?

    descotes
I am not ready to go the route of "slow computer" yet to explain your 4 hour export time.
By basic editing, does that include effects additions such as Stabilizer?
Given you have Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1 64 bit. That gives you a 64 bit application with the resource perks that come with 64 bit application in a 64 bit system. What are the properties of these .avi files that you are importing, and what are you or the project setting for the project preset?
Are you dealing with DV AVI standard or widescreen and, if so, type 1 or 2? What is the duration of the Timeline content that you are exporting Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG? And, what specific preset are you using? Are you using the default settings for the preset or customizing the preset under the Advanced Button of the preset?
My first instinct is to suggest 8 GB installed RAM instead of 4 GB, but I would prefer to see the information above first.
I noted that you said that you were not technically based. But, please try to answer the above as best you can. I will help you find the answers if necessary.
In all this, I am assuming that you are not multitasking while you are working with Premiere Elements export.
The export time is going to be influenced by the complexity of the Timeline and the state of the computer environment. Let us see if there is an alternative conclusion other than slow computer for your 4 hour export time when all the facts are in.
    Thanks.

  • Trying to export/share in a format readable by Powerpoint2010 when insert video

Using Premier 11 Elements...... I'm trying to export/ share videos to my computer, then trying to insert them into a Powerpoint slide. It works fine if I use a raw WMV format straight from the camera, but they need editting. I'm doing the editing enhancing sound etc in Premier11 Elements, but when I "share' I can't find how to save as a .wmv format??
When I choose Share>Computer>  I end up with MP4 files or XMPSES files... all will not function when inserted into Powerpoint. I get a message "media unavailable" after pasted. Or sometimes the message "Powerpoint cannot insert" this file format.
How do I export as a .wmv?? the help info available says Premier 11 elements should do this!?
thanks for any help you can give, I'm new to this and under a time crunch for work.

    Elizabeth B65
Thanks for the great news. Glad the suggestions worked for you.
If you want to take your Premiere Elements 11 Expert workspace Timeline to the 1920 x 1080 .wmv file for PowerPoint, the export from the following should insert into your PowerPoint 2010 nicely:
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    Windows Media
    with Presets = 720 x 480 16x9 29.97
Then under the Advanced Button/Video Tab, the essentials are:
Video codec = Windows Media Video 9
    Encoding passes = Two
    Bitrate Mode = Variable Unconstrained
    Frame Width = 1920 pixels
    Frame Height = 1080 pixels
Frame Rate = 29.97 frames per second
Pixel Aspect Ratio = Square Pixels (1.0)
The default "Average Video Bitrate" appears to be 1500 Kbps (kilobits per second). You can experiment with that later if necessary, finding the compromise between Bitrate, quality, and file size.
By the way, the installation of QuickTime is a requirement for working with Premiere Elements. The first sign of its absence is its presets missing from the Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime. Typically the program requires being run Run As Administrator or from a User Account with Administrative Privileges.
Please let us know how else we might help.
    Thanks.

  • Why does it take 12 hours to process a 2 hr. in imovie 11

Why does it take 12 hours to process a 2 hr movie to quick time?

iMovie is designed to create simple home movies, not theatrical-length features.
iMovie does all rendering in a single pass when you share the movie, so the longer the movie and the more complex the effects used, it can overwhelm the memory in your computer. I would normally say keep your movies to 30 minutes or less, but there is always an exception to the rule. Some people are able to get more.
If you are able to complete a 2 hour movie in 12 hours, you must have a pretty powerful Mac. Many Macs would crash long before then.
Final Cut Pro X is the tool for theatrical length movies. Final Cut Pro X allows rendering to occur in smaller chunks, so it doesn't have to happen all at the end. When you share the final movie, you are patching together many segments that have already been rendered.
However, as I learn FCP, I have discovered that most pros do not edit a 2 hour movie on a single timeline. They create it in logical scenes, and then only put them all together at the end. They do this for performance reasons, and so in case something goes wrong, the problem is isolated. When they get ready to create their final 2 hour movie, they drag completely rendered scenes to a clean timeline and output the final movie.

I do not feel comfortable setting this parameter session or system wide to provide a solutionIf you're sure that the "lower" environment reproduces the same issue, and not due to some other differences (different statistics, parameters etc.), then you could share the two different execution plans generated via DBMS_XPLAN.DISPLAY having the cost based transformations turned on and off. Make sure you use the \ tags before and after the plan output to format it in fixed font. You can use the "Quote" button in the message editor to see how to use the tag.
Furthermore a optimizer trace (10053) might reveal why the cost based transformations lead to such an result.

  • Why does exporting a quicktime movie take so long?

I'm exporting an 88-minute-long HDV movie as a self-contained quicktime without recompressing. The media is all on one ESATA drive and the target disk is a second ESATA drive. It takes five hours and uses >150% of my CPU during the export. It seems to me like it shouldn't take nearly that long, nor should it use so much CPU since basically all it's doing is copying data from one disk to another, right? Any idea why it's taking so long and using so much CPU? Thanks.

No, wrong. It is creating a completely new GOP structure for your MPEG2 based edit.
    Ah.
This is one of the drawbacks of working/delivering in HDV ... With that in mind, is there any special reason you are creating an HDV self contained master?
I'm making it self contained so I can put the whole thing on my MBP's internal hard drive and show it to people without having to carry terabytes of media around. I'm staying in HDV because I started out working in Final Cut Express, which converts everything to AIC, and had very bad results: my media files grew by a factor of three, everything was ridiculously slow, and my machine crashed regularly, particularly during captures, which was unbelievably frustrating because that meant I had to babysit the machine throughout the entire capture process (and often through multiple iterations of the capture process interleaved with machine reboots). In fact, the only reason I started using FCP instead of FCE is so I wouldn't have to transcode.

That was 7 hours ago. I contacted the help chat department and was told it would take 24 hours to process. Is this normal?? Why would the screen tell me "a few minutes" if it's actually 24 hours? Has anyone else had this problem? I am so tempted to just refresh the page and try my luck with my credit card canceling a second payment should it happen. THAT might be faster.

  • 3Minute Clip Takes 3 HOURS to encode

Got a Dual core XPSP2 system with 2GB RAM.
Taking THREE HOURS to make a little 3 Minute clip to Windows media (disaster area 9)
    THREE MINUTES!
CS3 has been taking HOURS, often TEN or more to do straight forward encoding that Canopus would do in 0.67 real time.
But For Gods Sake THREE HOURS for a 3minute Clip, from the time line.
I have done Quicktime versions in almost realtime. But they would would not insert into Powerpoint.
Its a 16:9 project, so trying to get Windows Media to handle that is an impossible task, as Windows is stuck in 4 by 3.
What is going on, that PPro 1.5 and 2 versions will encode with "MEDIA Encoder", in almost real time, yet CS3 takes YEARS
I have built three other PCS so I can get on with other work, thanks to CS3 taking the next century to do anything.
I note your training notes all only very short clips. But I am sure a 3 MINUTE Clip should not take THREE HOURS!

Actually its still exporting, (9 hours later) total time for this 3min clip is now expected as 16 hours. What would I expect if I wanted to do the whole 1hr show, abandon my PC for a week or longer.
The issue with 16:9 material is that you have to shrink it down, as Windows will not allow 16by9. So the resolution and quality is completely lost, as you end up using only about 2/3rds the original number of lines.
So I am ending up encoding 1/3rd of my project as BLACK, to fit down to the 4by3 constraints of windows.
This is the AVI File. I have tried the timeline, but there is a Zoom in and out of a still frame, which changes its zoom/motion path, if I export /encode to windows media, as the aspect ratio is changed by this 4;3 disaster, so the picture zooms in and out to the wrong sections, it is designed for the correct original 16by 9, but with the encoding it gets its knickers in a twist and goes to the wrong areas of the image.
The lip sync also goes to pot. Tried encoding to Quciktime, but the lip sinc is so slowed, its impossible to watch.
This is a 16by 9 PAL Project. 3 Minutes of a man talking on a locked off shot, with one single zoom in and out of photograph.
Why should it take almost a full day to encode 3 damn simple minutes, and mess up the lip sync, and fuzz up the original sharp image, to a pixelated bunch of rubbish.

  • Apple TV (Gen 2&3) takes several hours to load a movie from the iTunes Library

I know this had been discussed before, but a went through all posts that I could find and never found a solution.  I will list below everything I have tried and if anyone else has ANY ideas I would be extremely greatful to hear them!  To reiterate the issue any time I try to play a movie from MY iTunes library it takes several hours before it will even start playing.  Now, to what I have already tried...
    1.  I cycled my router first and after that didn't work I completely took it back to default settings.  My router is an Apple Airport Extreme
    2.  I completely uninstalled iTunes and then reinstalled it with full library, and then I also tried with just one movie in my library that I know used to work.  My home computer is a Windows 7 PC.
    3.  I restarted my Apple TV, and also bought a Gen. 3 Apple TV and tried it new out of the box.
    4.  I have tried to stream on both WiFi and hooked up to an Ethernet Cable.
    5.  I have tried with all firewalls turned off on the PC and router.
    6.  I have ended home sharing on all devices and restarted home sharing on just the Apple TV and PC.
    7.  I have turned off all devices using WiFi in the home.
That is all I can think of off hand so if you have any other ideas please do not hesitate to chime in so I can try something else. Do know that my Apple TV used to not have any issues and worked great since I irst purchased the Gen. 1 Apple TV.
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

I have the same problem.  I just purchased the Apple TV software 5.0.  Apple TV is working other than downloading movies.  I have been trying to download one movie for the past two days.  I have a wireless network, using AT&T DSL.  I have tested the connection using the test option in the Settings area of the Apple TV, which passes.
I have also tried rebooting my Apple Tv and turned off all other wireless options.  I am able to download Netflix movies using the PS3 without a problem, why not on my Apple TV.  I hope I didn't just purchase this device to stream music and photos.
I hope someone has a solution to this problem.
By the way I just upgraded my modem and router (Airport Extreme).
    Thanks for the help!!!!

    Hi,
I've just rented a movie, which claims its going to take 14 hours to download. Its still at it after 1 hour. To make matters worse, the 48 hours it gives you to watch it has already started and charged me an hour. There was a message to say I could start watching it now but it dosen't work. Please can you help?

You'll have to wait till it downloads much further than. If your download says it will take 14 hours to download, you have a very slow connection. You would never be able to watch the movie until it downloads completly.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The first back up to iCloud may take some considerable time. Just how long isn't really possible to say without knowing how much is in your back up and your connection speed.
What many people don't realise is that upload speeds are often significantly less than download speeds, so for example a user may have a download speed of 40 Mbps, but only 1 Mbps for uploading. As a rough guide it will take around 2 ¼ hours to upload 1 GB of data at 1 Mbps.
