Export song details to windows explorer

I am trying to make the song details such as album name and artist show up in the media properties of the itunes media folder in windows explorer in windows 8.1. All the information shows in iTunes, and although I have consolidated the library and ticked Keep Media Folder Organised under Edit > Preferences > Advanced, the information is not showing. In explorer nothing is Read only and the "Allow this file to have contents indexed in addition to file" check box is ticked for all songs. The only songs that I am having this problem with are ones that have been imported from a CD.
Thanks!

MeerCat Man,
iTunes does not process tags for WAV files.  It stores the Artist, Album, etc in the library (and displays them in the normal fashion) but they are not part of the file and will not be available if the file is viewed outside of iTunes.  Pls consider converting the WAV files to AIFF, which has the same full uncompressed PCM encoding as WAV, but also allows tags and artwork to be embedded in the file.
Regarding the Convert ID3 Tag command, right-click the iTunes library entry of the MP3 song, and the command will appear in the contextual menu.  (It will not appear when you right-click the library entry of a WAV file, for reasons that are apparent per the previous paragraph.)
Let us know how it goes.

Ever since installing iTunes on my XP Pro machine, it has taken control of the details selection of Windows Explorer. If I deselect the unwanted details and select the disired details, they will be reset to the iTunes selections the next time I reboot, e v e n i f I n e v e r o p e n i T u n e s. Whats up with that? How can I make iTunes stop reseting the default details for Windows Explorer? Any help is appreciated.

You can try going to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and setting and then try setting up via iTunes. If still problem then set up via wifi and go to an Apple Store

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

16-bit uses more memory. Quality-wise: No. Mike Chaney recommends
    using 8-bit.
16-bit are needed for editing on a grand scale, a very grand scale,

  • I downloaded music from the internet and edited it in Itunes. How do I keep the details of the song in windows explorer?

So basically I downloaded music from the internet and edited the artist, album, album art and all that stuff on Itunes. But when I go back to windows explorer, i dont have those details

Possibilities are that you are working with copies of the originals in which case it is only the copies that get updated, or that the songs are in .wav format and cannot carry a tag, or are in some other format and didn't include a tag so iTunes hasn't created one even though it has recorded details internally, or that there are mp3 files with multiple tags. iTunes doesn't cope well with multiple tags (despite these conforming to standards) and in this case may be making changes to one copy while Windows Explorer continues to show unchanged data from another. Use a 3rd party tag tool to inspect a problem album, or select the tracks and use Right-click > Convert ID3 Tags > None two or three times to strip out the embedded tags, then use Convert ID3 Tags > v2.3 to recreate them.
Note the process of cleaning and rewriting the tags will remove any embedded art. You can use my script CreateFolderArt before and after converting the tags to preserve and then embed the artwork, provided that you don't store songs from different albums in the same folder. Test a single track or album first to make sure the process has the desired result and only apply where needed.

i have added about 2000 cds to itunes without the song details. as i slowly update the song titles and genres etc in itunes,it does not always update the file in explorer.is there a solution to this? thanks.

Windows Explorer will display tag properties for mp3 & wma files, not aac (m4a) or wav. It is possible for mp3 files to contain multiple tags but only one will be displayed. Try inspecting the problem fils with a third party tag editor to see if you can tell what is going on. For mp3 files, provided all the details that you want the file to have are displayed in iTunes, you can try using the right-click option Convert ID3 Tag > None a few times followed by Convert ID3 Tag > ID3v2.3 which may well help.

I had a lot of family members give me itunes gift cards for Christmas so that I could purchase appropriate songs for slideshows that I make for grandchildren and other family members. I cannot get any of the songs into my slideshows as it says that they are mp4's. Someone told me that they have to be mp3's and then someone told me that I could convert them to mp3s within itunes and export them to my slideshows. I am not selling the slideshows, only doing this as a hobby and am now upset that I spent so much time and money on songs I cannot use. Is this true, I can never use them in my slideshows? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Depends what they are. If you purchased .m4p files, be aware that they contain Apple-proprietary DRM "protection" that prevents their use in non-Apple programs. If you purchased .m4a files, you can use iTunes to convert them to MP3.
For future reference, since you plan to use your music for multiple purposes, the most compatible format, by far, is MP3. Make sure that all music you purchase or rip is in MP3 format.

  • Unable to delete songs from IPOD except through Windows Explorer

    hello,
I have a first gen 1 gb Ipod Nano ver Ver 1.3.1 modem #
    ma352ll.
About a week ago i tried to free up some space on my ipod by removing some songs. Since I began using my ipod I have just felt more comfortable manually managing my songs. So what i would normally do is simply delete the song from the music folder on my ipod and it is usually gone. (I know that simply deleting from a playlist does not delete from ipod). When I tried deleting some songs I found that the available space on my ipod did not change and obviously could nto add any more songs. When I went into windows explorer, in the music folder for my ipod, I i found the songs I wanted to delete (they were large files because they were podcasts). When I deleted the file from windows explorer the space was freed up on my ipod.
I updated itunes and restored my ipod. I am not using itunes 7. Today I tried adding 7 podcasts to my ipod manually thru itunes and only 5 show up in my music folder, however, i can find all 7 in windows explorer AND all 7 in the playlists I added them to. They play perfectly fine when I play them, but obviously if I tried to delete the 2 suspect files from my playlist they would still be hidden somewhere on my ipod and I can only delete them through windows explorer.
I am not sure what to do at this point, is there anybody who can shed some light on what I am doing wrong or if this is a known issue with itunes and and 1st gen nanos. It's getting annoying to have to play each file in winamp from windows explorer to find the song titles I want to delete and keep the rest. The folders show up as F00, F001, etc... and the songs show up as QVRD.mp3. I havew to play the file QVRD.mp3 throguh winamp so the name of the song comes up so I know if that is the hidden file or one of the others thats how up in itunes that I want to keep. Any ideas out there?

  • "Show in Windows Explorer" option for song not working

I have the latest verson of iTunes 11.0.1 but have had this problem for awhile
Whenever I want to delete a song from iTunes, I usually delete the file as well. To do this, I'll right-click on the song & select "Show in Windows Explorer". However, the majority of the time I get the error message saying:
    "Location is not available
    C:\....\....\My Music is not accessible.
    Access is denied."
Every once & awhile it will work fine though & send me to the song in the Music folder. Any idea how to fix this?

A system restore fixed the problem.
I'm guessing the problem was caused by installing and uninstalling replacements (file browers) for Windows Explorer. Even though they were uninstalled and Explorer was running fine, iTunes had this problem.

After purchasing the Export PDF Online software when I attempt to perform a "File/Save As" when viewing a document on the web it locks up windows explorer.  I receive "FIle Save As - Not Responding"

I think you may be correct.  It is coincidental with my upgrade to Adobe Reader 11.0.10.
    I have installed IE 11 (11.0.9600.17690)
It may be an Adobe Reader problem in that the "tools/file save as" dialog is completely empty. No local directories are displayed for saving to.   When I try to Close(X) the "File Save As" box it pops up a message box on top that says "Adobe Reader is not Responding"  It locks up all of my IE windows, not just the one with the PDF doc.
I need to go go Task Manager and stop the IE task.  All my browser windows are then closed.
That is the only way to recover from the "Adobe Reader is Not Responding" message.

  • Export function crashes Windows Explorer or at least the exported images do.

This is the first time that I have used the Export function since upgrading to version 2 so believe that it is tied in with the upgrade somehow.
When I choose an image > Export > Temp folder on the Desktop the image does indeed appear in the temp folder. Double clicking on the folder displays the contents and so long as I take no further action nothing more happens. However, as soon as I move the mouse over the image icon this causes Windows Explorer to crash.
With LR closed down, I navigate to the folder where the image is located and by right-clicking > copy I then save a copy to another temporary folder on the desktop. Moving the mouse over the image icon does NOT this time cause Windows Explorer to crash.
I have tried the Export function with RAW, DNG and JPG files to see if the problem was related to any one particular file or file format but it makes no difference - the same problem as described above occurs.
Has anyone else experienced this or can advise on how to possibly isolate this problem?
    Windows XP2 SP3

Thanks for that John. Having done as you suggested, the problem appears to be with a dll file associated with another application I used for displaying cr2 and crw thumbnails in Windows Explorer. In the applications (dpMagic) preferences if I uncheck jpg and jpeg from the file associations Windows Explorer does not crash following Export from Lightroom and in this situation, double-clicking on the exported jpg/jpeg file now results in it opening in Windows Fax and Picture Viewer.
Even uninstalling the application followed by manually searching for any trace of remaining files prior to a fresh install does not cure the problem and I suspect that not all files from this application are being removed.
Anyway, I have now emailed dpMagic support for advice but am happy that the cause of this crash does not now appear to lie with Lightroom.
Thanks again for your advice, regards and have a nice day.

  • No TITLEs displayed in Detail view in Windows Explorer

The following pertains to Windows 7 Professional 64-bit vs. Windows XP Professional 32-bit.
In Windows Explorer, when viewing the file list in 'detail' view, you can also add the 'title' attribute for display by right-clicking the attribute bar above the file list.  However, in Windows 7, no titles are displayed for PDF files that have this
information which were displayed under WinXP.  Also, if the file properties are displayed, the PDF tab is gone.
I cannot find any info on how to re-enable this feature.  If XP-style PDF title attributes have been removed or disabled in Windows 7 Explorer, it is a MAJOR omission for our corporation.  We have a massive collection of corporate
and 3rd party PDF documents where interdocument links will not work if the filename is changed.  The TITLE attribute in detail view is used to display the document title, not the filename.  If any other view is used, e.g. icon view, the bubble
popup displays the title in WinXP, but this again doesn't work in Win7.  Without the title attribute working as it does in XP, we may have to forego moving from XP to Windows 7 on our desktops (we're skipping Vista, of course), and find an alternate
desktop OS (Linux?) that still supports this feature.
For example, every IBM software/hardware PDF manual has a cryptic filename which does not reflect anything about the title of the manual.  These filenames support inter-manual links, so renaming the PDF manuals to reflect the title is absolutely
not an option.  However, the PDF attributes of the file do contain the title, and these were visible under both Properties (the PDF tab), and the TITLE column in Detail view under WinXP.  However, both of these features are gone in Windows 7,
and to say it's a PITA is a gross understatement.
We want (need) this feature back in Windows 7.  I'd call it a show-stopper in moving to Windows 7 if this isn't fixed, and soon!
Btw, Microsoft, we have over 45,000 desktops currently running WinXP, plus 100's of Win2003/Win2008 servers in our corp.  Are you listening?

Here's what seems to be going on.
As part of the Adobe Reader download, Adobe provides a shell extension called pdfshell.dll.  On 32-bit Windows XP, you'll find it in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX folder.  On 64-bit Windows 7, you'll find it in the C:\Program
Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Acrobat\ActiveX folder.  But, on either system, it's a 32-bit shell extension.  On 64-bit Windows 7, Windows Explorer will only run as a 64-bit program.  According to numerous web forum posters, this was a change
between the last "beta" and the "RC" version of 64-bit Windows 7.  There is a 32-bit version of Windows Explorer in the C:\Windows\SysWOW64 folder, but if you try to run it you get another instance of 64-bit Explorer.  The (first)
problem is that 64-bit Windows Explorer won't load a 32-bit shell extension.
You can see the 32-bit pdfshell.dll "working" on 64-bit Windows 7 in the File Open dialog of any 32-bit application (such as Adobe Reader).  To see this, first open an Explorer window and navigate to a folder that has some PDF files like your
IBM manual.  Right click on the file and choose Properties.  Look at the tabs in the dialog and note that there is no PDF tab.  Now, OK out of the Properties dialog and double-click on the same file to open it in Adobe Reader.  Now press
Ctrl-O or choose File Open to get the File Open dialog.  Navigate to the same folder, right click on the same file and choose Properties.  Look at the tabs and see that you now have the PDF tab that was missing in Explorer.  In that tab, you
can see the Title that pdfshell.dll has pulled from the file.  This works because 32-bit Adobe Reader has loaded a 32-bit common file dialog which *will* load a 32-bit shell extension.
But you're not out of the woods yet.  The common file dialog has many of the features of Explorer, and you can select Details view and right-click on the column headers to choose to show a Title column.  This will show Titles for several document
types, but not for PDF files.  This isn't a 64-bit versus 32-bit issues, it's a Windows XP versus Vista and later issue.  What Adobe implemented in pdfshell.dll is an ActiveX interface called IColumnProvider, and Microsoft dropped support for this
interface in Windows Vista (replacing it with something called the Property System).  You can glance at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb776831%28VS.85%29.aspx and just read the first line after the page header:  "[This feature is supported
only under Windows XP or earlier. ]".  So, the PDF Title column feature didn't go away with 64-bit Windows 7, it went away with 32-bit Windows Vista.
The best solution to this problem would be for Adobe to update pdfshell.dll to provide the Property System interface that Vista and Windows 7 require.  See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb776859%28v=VS.85%29.aspx if you care for the details.
Then Adobe should release 32-bit and 64-bit versions of pdfshell.dll implementing the new interface, and we'd get both the PDF tab and Explorer columns like Title for PDF files in 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 (and Vista).
Alternatively, some enterprising developer could presumably write a shim that would present the Property System interface on its upper side (callable by Explorer) and the IColumnProvider interface on its lower side (capable of calling existing versions of
pdfshell.dll).  It would need to deal with interfacing between 64-bit Explorer and a 32-bit pdfshell.dll ... I assume that this is possible somehow, but I don't know.
A kludge that might be (barely?) usable would be to use Windows XP Mode to run a 32-bit Windows XP Explorer and use that to navigate using the PDF Titles and possibly launch them.  Perhaps you could come up with a way to make Windows XP Mode's Explorer
launch Adobe Reader in the host 64-bit Windows 7 OS.
A third-party solution might be xplorer^2 (http://www.zabkat.com/index.htm) which claims to support the interface that Microsoft dropped in Vista (http://www.zabkat.com/blog/07Feb10-column-handlers-revived.htm).  I know nothing about this program, I
just found it while Googling for "column handler".  It says that it has a 21 day trial, is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions and costs $29.95 (presumably US dollars).  There is a "lite" version that is free for non-commercial
use ... all of this info is just repeated from their web pages, I have no connection to the company and only know what I read ... I haven't tried it.
It's worth noting that life isn't perfect with pdfshell.dll and 32-bit Windows XP either, depending on your PDF files.  Some documents don't have Titles (depending, partly, on what software produced them).  Some have Titles long enough that they
won't display in an Explorer column (though they show up truncated on the status line and un-truncated in a tooltip).  I have a file called "GEARaspi Security Information.pdf" (http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/GEARAspi%20Security%20Information.pdf)
that has no Title, created by OpenOffice.org 2.4 according to its PDF tab.  I have another called "319124.pdf" (http://www.intel.com/assets/pdf/whitepaper/319124.pdf) which has the rather wordy title "Intel®  Extreme Memory Profile
(Intel® XMP) supporting Intel® X48 Express Chipset with DDR3 White Paper".  Despite having a Title, no Title is displayed in a Title column in Windows Explorer in 32-bit Windows XP, though a truncated version appears in the status bar and
the tooltip gets the whole thing, wrapping to two lines to do it.  Intel's file was produced with Acrobat PDFMaker 7.0 for Word according to its PDF tab.
This post is based on what I could figure out, I hope it's helpful (if discouraging ... you won't fix this with a registry hack).

What will happen to the organization of library if I removed the songs from windows explorer?
Background: I found it easier to identify duplicated songs in windows explorer as the songs will be renamed .... 1.mp3, thus enabling me to remove the duplicated songs; unlike in iTunes where I know the trick of showing duplicate songs, but you don't know which one is the one with 1 at the end of the file name.
Will iTunes automatically update the library without all the deleted songs, or will it indicate 'missing location' songs? Any fast ways to clear this 'missing location' songs by highlighting them all and delete all at one go?
    Thanks.

One way is to use iTunes Folder Watch with its option to check for dead tracks on start up.
Another option is with a set of Lost & Found playlists.
    Lost & Found
Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist. Create a smart playlist called Lost matching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist. You can delete them all with a Ctrl-A to select them and Shift-Delete to remove them.
You can then delete the Lost & Found playlists.
