Export Songs from iPod to the iTune Bibliothek

Dear discussion forum,
I am a new iPod user. I bought the big one with the colour screen (5th generation???).
A friend of mine put songs into the iPod. Now I want to export them from my iPod to the bibliothek of iTune.
I did not find any hint (at least I did not see it) how to do that.
Might be someone could help me?

How do I get songs from iPod(video) to iTunes(i'm using iTunes7 and Vista).
I don't have the disc, cause i can't find it. But my computer downloaded the ipod, it just cant find the files?
i've been looking through the topics for the past hour and none of them helped. Maybe i'm stupid i dont really know, but i've restored my old computer a couple times and i found a post and it helped both times. now i can't find it anymore.

If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.

Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

If you have iTunes 11 turn on the Sidebar. Go to iTunes>View and click on Show Sidebar. You can also do a Crtl+S to show the sidebar.

Clicking "Synchronize" will only transfer songs from the library to the iPod.
To transfer music donwloaded from iTunes Music Wi-Fi Store to the computer, connect your iPod then right-click you iPod name on the Source list and hit "Transfer Purchases".

I am was a person with a really slow computer so i didnt want to keep my songs and movies on my itunes. i deleted any songs i added. Now that i have a new computer i realized that i dont have to delete them anymore bc this computer is much faster.

Unfortunately, you cannot add songs that were added by iTunes onto your iPod onto another computer. But you can transfer your old library, if you saved it on your old computer, to your new computer.
However, if you purchase songs from the Wi-Fi music store on your iPod, you can transfer them to your computer when you sync. (I'm not sure what the directory for Mac is but I guess you should know; File>Transfer purchases from "iPod." I think 'file' is the green circle.)

Hello. So I saw a topic on this but can't find it. Somebody talked about a web application that would allow you to put the songs on your ipod back into itunes. Basically I'm retiring my ipod now that I have an iphone and want to get the songs from my ipod into itunes so I can put them on my iphone. Any help would be great!

Hey guys. I used this page (below) and it worked perfectly. Just keep in mind that it won't notify you of duplicate tracks so if it is already in itunes and you put your ipod back on you could have two of the same tracks. Otherwise it worked great and was easy with no third party software.
