Export Speed Slow or is it just me??

could you guys tell me your experience with exporting images. I am exporting as Tiff's. for example a wedding in which I have made collections by files, average group is 100-175 images.
Should it take me allllllll day???
Are we able to export more than one collection at a time. Which I have done, but It renders my computer useless for ANY other operations??
I read about the Lightroom vs the type/speed of computer and upgrading doesn't sound like the answer.
love to hear back your experience
thank you
Sherry

On a P4 2.8GHz single-core machine, exporting takes about 12 seconds per image or so (5 per minute) for 12.8MP RAW images from a Canon 5D.

  • Encoding is extremely slow (Export speed Slow)

    Hi All,
I have just signed up to CC for video editing. I have been previously using a friends computer that has CS5 full suite. It has been great. Very fast and easy.
Decided to purchase a new powerful 6 core i7 computer and signed up for the new CC software - premier Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder and Photoshop. All installed fine
I film and edit my sons soccer games. A typical 90min soccer game would take around an hour to export an 1080p25 MP4 file on my friends computer. Would also take similar time for 720p version.
I just did my first edit in CC and set up export for 1080p25 and 720p25.
What shocked me is the estimated time for encode is over twelve hours!!! What has happened. How can this be? Some times the coach wants copies but this time frame to wait is crazy.
How do I fix this slow encode time and bring them back to a more realistic 1 hour ish?
    Thanks Bryan

  • Slow Export Speed

I am doing some MP3 file exporting of multi-track projects today with STP3. The export speed is VERY SLOW. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and STP3. Never had this problem with Leopard and STP2. My disk is only half full, the speed of the processor is the same, yet this is taking WAY TOO LONG! Any suggestions on speeding up the process with Snow and STP3?

  • Latest update of Firefox is REALLLLLY slow. Is it just all the extra functionality that has been added or is there a button I need to press to make it the same speed as it use to be. Can I downgrade to last version?

Latest update of Firefox is REALLY slow. Is it just all the extra functionality that has been added or is there a button I need to press to make it the same speed as it use to be? I'll have to start usin safari again as this isn't funny anymore
Can i retro grade back to the last version?

uninstalled firefox ....deleted all files still remaining under mozilla firefox directory in program files ... to avoid having to reprogram all my settings, reisntall all addons as well .. I did not remove anything from mozilla firefox that is stored in either appdata or under the windows users directory (if any)
... the as suggested reinstalled the latest version of the firefox browser using the link you provided in the email ..; tested and several issues still remain present and unresolved ....
so please this is urgent or I will have to jump browsers and start using chrome .. because we work 14 hours a day 6 (sometimes 7) days a week, to get ready for the launch of our newest venture and we cannot lose that much days on browser related issues ... so please instead of putting me through week long step process .. of do this .. do that .. can you please actually look into the issue from your end .. I use firefox for so many, many years thta I deserve this kind of support .. thnx Robert

  • My mac book pro speed slow

speed slow problem for my mac book pro

My mac book pro has an i7 processor, and still slow. The monitor of activity, when the computer just turned on says 1.8 GB in use (or more). Is it OS Lion?, because the amount of processes in the list don´t use much memory. Programs have a delay to open, close, save, etc. Y can´t have more than 4 or 5 programs running and my memory decreases dramatically. My disk has 140 GB free. I´ll be very thankfull if I can have some help.

  • Export super slow 10.1.2

I am not sure what happened, but the last day or so exporting projects has been REALLY slow compared to norma.  I usually can export a 60 documentary in less than 20-30 minutes without any rendering and now it took 50 minutes just top get up to 20%.  I noticed the same thing with other project.  Usually it has been pretty fast exporting, even to youtube, but today just posting a 70MB file to youtube took an hour, and my internet is fine.
Anyone knows about this and how to fix it?

What drive do you use for your media? How full is your drive? You should use a fast external drive, not your boot drive, for your media.
Always keep a healthy percentage of free space on any drive - and all the more so in the case of the boot drive. Keep some 20-25% or more free whenever possible.
As a drive is getting full, performance can degrade considerably. That can happen even while you think you have a lot of space, especially in the boot drive, as it is always being written to and read from by the operating system, and things such as cache files, memory images, etc can use a lot of space.

  • Speeds slow in the evening consistently

    Hi everyone.
I had infinity 2 installed last week. Speeds at times are great - even yesterday I saw downloads exceeding 74Mbps around midnight.
However I am consistently seeing speeds slow to under 30Mbps or even slower in the evenings, which obviously coincides with peak times.
I am connected to the Wrexham exchange WNWX. The engineer did also test my line last week and he was getting about 71 Mbps without any errors. This was about midday.
I have been checking with the PC connected directly to the home hub4 via ethernet cable.
Surely the problem must be due to congestion on the cabinet/exchange/network?

Just joined here to say I am having exactly the same issue. I had BT Infinity 1 installed on June 17th and from the very beginning have been getting download speeds of up to 39mpbs except between the hours of 5pm to 11pm when I can barely achieve 1 mbp at times. It can vary by half an hour but its every single day. I too have constant upload speeds of around 8mpbs during this period.
Having read other similar threads I have neither the time or the inclination to go through the hassle of reporting this problem. However as it is obviously not my line or equipment at fault I just wanted to put my issue out there so BT could look at what appears to be a congestion issue. I live in Rochdale nr Manchester.
I know speed reduces at peak times but getting less than 1 mpb for up to 6 hours a day isn't really good enough is it.  I got faster on my old Orange broadband which cost less.

  • Internet speed slows down when connected via airport express

Internet speed slows down when connecting via airport express. When connecting directly via the timecapsulethe internet speed is ok, when connecting via the airport express the speed slows down. What can I do to change that? Any suggestions?

Turn off the AirPort Express completely as a test, and move your computer very close to the location of the Express.
As I said before, the Express can only extend the bandwidth (speed) that it receives from the Time Capsule, so the speed that you see there with the Express powered off will be the fastest speed of which the Express is capable.
The Express will make the signal go further when it extends....but it will not make the signal go faster.
A good location for a device that extends wirelessly is a point that is about half the distance from the Time Capsule and the general area that needs more wireless coverage.
If you locate the AirPort Express too far from the Time Capsule or there are more than a couple of walls in the signal path, the signal will be very slow by the time that it reaches the Express....and the Express simply extends a signal that has already slowed down significantly.
If you already have the Express located about half the distance between the Time Capsule and general area that needs more wireless coverage, how many walls, ceilings or other obstructions are there in the signal path between the Time Capsule, the AirPort Express and the area that needs more coverage?
Often, due to obstructions, it is just not possible to achieve good performance when you try to extend a network wirelessly. The solution is connect the AirPort Express to the Time Capsule using a wired Ethernet connection.
There is virtually no signal loss with this type of connection, so the Express can be located exactly where it is needed and it will produce a much faster wireless signal in this type of setup.

  • What hardware helps for optimum export speed?

I'm about to purchase a new laptop, and since I'm often on location, processing and exporting large numbers of processed files in a hurry, I'm wondering what hardware is most helpful.  Obviously I'm going to get the fastest CPU possible, and a fast hard drive, but what about RAM?  Does the RAM speed make much difference in import, process or export times?
Also, I'm considering a model that has 2 internal hard drives.  Would LR export speed be improved by exporting to a second internal drive?.   And if so, and one of those drives is an SSD, should that be the primary or secondary drive?
    TIA, Steve.

OP here.  Thanks for the responses.  Thanks especially to Ian Lyons for posting the link to the Optimizing Adobe Lightroom article ( http://macperformanceguide.com/Optimizing-Lightroom.html ).  Among other things, the article suggested that export speed could be increased by dividing a large operation into several smaller ones, to best utilize multiple cores and hyperthreading.  I decided to run a few tests:
First, I exported 300 files in two simultaneous operations of 150 files each, to two different internal drives on my home computer ( CPU is a 4-year-old Pentium 940 EE 2.4 Ghz dual core with hyperthreading).  Then I exported the same 300 files in a single operation.  The split export took 5 ½ minutes, vs 11 minutes for the single export.
I know:  It’s already a flawed test, because I had introduced an additional variable by exporting to two separate drives in the first test.  Since the times that I’m most in a hurry are when I’m on location using a laptop, that test wasn’t of much use, as laptops (with few exceptions) have only one internal drive.
So today, I did a few more export tests, all from and to the C drive:
300 files exported in a single operation:  12.5 minutes
The same 300 files exported in two groups of 150, simultaneous operations:  10 minutes
The same 300 files, this time exported in three groups of 100:  7 minutes
Interesting result, as the article had led me to expect possibly slower results on test #3, due to increased overhead.  However, file caching could be skewing the (later) results.
So next, I tried a similar export test in reverse order with different (smaller) files
250 files divided roughly into three groups, processed simultaneously:  4.5 minutes
Same 250 files processed in a single operation: 7 minutes
There still may be some skewing due to file caching, and due to using different files for the two sets of tests.  However, it seems clear that for my purposes at least, exporting large quantities of files in several simultaneous operations saves a significant amount of time vs a single large export.  Also, the initial test (as compared to subsequent tests) does seem to indicate somewhat faster export when using two drives.
BTW, no resizing involved, apart from the occasional cropped image.

  • Slow response using internet, just hangs

Not the best at IT and just clicked update when it came up as available without realising what I was doing!  Turns out it was an upgrade to os x 10.9.4.  Since then the laptop has been practically unusable particularily when it comes to safari, it is either really slow getting to a particular page or just doesnt do anything, no matter how long you wait.  Restarting doesnt seem to help, reload view fails as well.  Its strange as sometimes its ok for 10 minutes then starts doing this.  I know this is bad but I have never backed the laptop up so cant restore to previous version.  I am currently looking into which external hard drive to buy so I can start doing regular back ups.  I have run EtreCheck in the hope somebody can help!!  Results below

Hi there! So I am using Lightroom 3 on a pc and I have ran into an issue when exporting images. The DPI and image size (in inches) that I am selecting during the export process. For example I just exported a collection and set the dpi to 180 and the size to 7 inches on the long edge. My exported result is 457 dpi and sized at 3200x2134 pixels.. Any ideas on why this is happening and what I can do to correct it?

The DPI setting in a digital image has no meaning at all. You need to learn how to calculate what you need in your exported image. The only measurement in a digital image that has any meaning is the number of pixels in each direction. It doesn't matter what you set that DPI to (actually it's PPI or pixels per inch). The image will have the same number of pixels regardless of the setting. If you need an image that is 5 x 7" (for example) at 200 PPI then you would want an image that measured:
    5 x 200 = 1000 pixels
    7 x 200 = 1400 pixels
So you would need an image that is 1000 x 1400 pixels to have a 5 x 7" image at 200 PPI. The reason your exported image had such a high PPI setting is because you specified the number of inches you wanted the image to be. And there were enough pixels in the image that it calculated out to be that high PPI setting.
I apologize, I don't explain this very well. But you need to learn to do the math to determine how large you really want your exported images to be.

  • Final Cut exports only 720x486 (640x480) when needing just 720x486

We are having issues with exporting from Final Cut or Quicktime.
We are uploading thru digital delivery. This is what we need:
    Format: QuickTime, MPEG-4
Codec: AVID IMX or APPLE IMX
    Bit Rate: 50 Mbs
    Aspect Ratio: 720x486 (1.481)
    Frame Rate: 29.97
    Audio Channels: 2 (or more)
    We getting this error:
    "The received file was:
    Format: QuickTime, MPEG-4
    Codec: Apple IMX
    Bit Rate: 51628048
    Width: 720
    Height: 486
    Aspect Ratio: 1.347
    Frame Rate: 29.970
    Audio Channels: 2"
The file info on quicktime is 720x486 (640x480), but previously we were able to export files from FC that were just 720x486.
This is what we are exporting now... using exactly the same settings....
This is a file done a few months ago:

Is there something wrong with the way the video plays? There shouldn't be as the "(640x480)" is just telling you the square pixel equivilent of your 720x480 4:3 file.

  • Speed slowing down

They said I should get 54/14 and when first installed got 42/9 so I thought OK not a problem I expected it to be less well now every time it decides to reboot its self my speed slows down I'm now on 28/8 and according to there speed test I have I line profile of 31.34 I am not happy does any1 think it will be possible to tell them to stick there infinity where the sun don't shine and get out of the contract as I can only see it getting slower

    Hi J0nsey,
Thanks for posting. Can you try the speed test at www.speedtester.bt.com and post the results. If you’re still having problems with the speed I can look into it for you. Drop me an email with the details. You’ll find the “contact us” form in the about me section of my profile.
