Export Tag Ignored When Exporting to ePub

Hello all,
I am using InDesign CS6 to create a document for export to ePub. I am creating page breaks in the ePub by selecting the Split Document option in the paragraph styles. This works in every case except for my Table of Contents. The TOC is formatted using the TOC Styles. I have selected a paragraph style for the heading of my TOC that uses the Split Document option. But when I export to ePub the TOC does not start on a page by itself. Any suggestions on how to make this work?
Thank you!

The solution suggested by Steve Werner surely makes sense and I tried it but it didn't work for me.
I created a new text frame above the text frame in which the styled TOC appears. In that text frame I typed the title of my TOC which is simply Contents. I created a new paragraph style for the word Contents and selected the Split Document option for that para style.
In the TOC Style dialog I left the Title field blank and for Style I selected "No Paragraph Style" as shown below. I updated the TOC.
But when I exported to ePub the TOC header (Contents) does not appear at all and the TOC does not start on its own page.
My document has three pages immediately preceding the TOC. First page is a paragraph of Acknowledgements, second page is the copyright page, third page is a poem that serves as a foreword, fourth page should be the table of contents. I have successfully used the Para Styles with the Split Document option to allow the first two pages (Acknowledgements and copyright) to be separate pages. But even after trying the workaround suggested above the poem and the TOC are placed on the same page. And I simply can't fathom why the title "Contents" does not appear at all.
Any suggestions? Is there a limit to how many paragraph styles can use the Split Document option?

  • Getting Export Controller Error When Exporting MPEG2 to High boardband & up

I just got QuickTime Pro and MPEG 2 Playback for Windows. I am getting an Export Controller Error When Exporting MPEG2 to High boardband or to the default settings. The file I am exporting is around 60 MB and when it gets to about 15%, the program errors. However, the program works for Medium and low Board band. If anybody has a solution for my problem, I would love to know.
    Thanks!

Not sure if this is going to work, but it worked for me. After exporting the movie and I got the error, I noticed that the process "exportController" was still running, so I stopped it from the task manager and am not sure but apperantly that was the problem because once I did that the file open up fine in other players like Winamp. Also after stopping the process the following exports I did seemed to be exported fine without any errors !... worth a shot.

  • Audio settings ignored when exporting

    Hi all,
I have fully up to date Captivate 5.
I have a captivate project that was created from a narrated PPT file, but when I choose to export no matter what audio settings i have (High, low, custom, any combination) the file size is exactly the same every single time. It is higher than the PPT that went into it, which makes me think it has stuck to it's default setting of high.
I have tried running as administrator, I have tried closing and opening and saving as other file names.
Nothing makes the slightest bit of difference to the size. There is no video, only a few slides with just text and some audio.
Could it be because there is a problem with the conversion from ppt? Or does it function better when audition is installed alongside.
I've never had a problem with Captivate before, but this is driving me crazy, I even pulled the audio out of the ppt, compressed it using another audio program, thus reducing the size of the exported file but the exported file is STILL too large and is now even bigger than the original PPT.
    o0;
What in the heck is going on?

    Easy now...it's no conspiracy,
Do you have any unused items in the Captivate library? That's often a cause of large published files.
The audio is embedded as part of the PPT, but you've also pulled it out, right?
When you extract it, what format is it in?
Don't compress the audio outside Captivate. My preferred practice is to import good-quality .wav audio into the CP project and let Captivate do the compression on publishing. In fact, though this may not be true with newer versions, I've found trying to add compressed audio just confuses CP and results in larger, lesser-quality audio files when CP tries to recompress the audio...
    At any rate, try:
    1. pull the audio out of the PPT.
    2. Save the PPT as a new file.
    3. Import it into the CP file (if necessary - personally, I'd almost rather rebuild the slides in CP rather than link-to an external PPT...though CP6 supposedly improves on that process)
    4. Import the extracted audio files and add to each slide as needed.
    5. Set the audio to mid-range and publish.
    Any better?

  • PDF export format options are ignored when exporting

I can't get the PDF export format options to work.  No exception is thrown; it's as though the export format options are simply ignored.  In broad terms, the relevant code looks like this:
    ExportOptions exportOptions = new ExportOptions();
    exportOptions.setExportFormatType(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
    PDFExportFormatOptions pdfExportOptions = new PDFExportFormatOptions();
    pdfExportOptions.setCreateBookmarksFromGroupTree(true);
    exportOptions.setFormatOptions(pdfExportOptions);
    ByteArrayInputStream byteArrayInputStream =
        (ByteArrayInputStream)reportClientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(exportOptions);
Other options (setting start and end pages for export) are also ignored.
Curiously, I am able to apply export format options just fine for other formats; e.g. when setting the export format type to ReportExportFormat.characterSeparatedValues and using a CharacterSeparatedValuesExportFormatOptions object as appropriate, I am able to set options like delimiter and separator just fine.
How can I prevent the PDF export format options from being ignored?

    hi
Are you using RAS or Crystal Report runtime? and what's the version? It might be a bug. Have you tried:
    ByteArrayInputStream byteArrayInputStream =
        (ByteArrayInputStream)reportClientDoc.getPrintOutputController().export(ReportExportFormat.PDF);
    and does it work?

  • Why was formatting removed from Export to Excel when exporting from PWA 2013?

We have recently moved from using Project Server 2007 to Project Server 2013 and one thing that we have noticed is that when we Export to Excel all the formatting has been removed and all the task grouping and alignment has been flatted.
Why did Microsoft remove this feature from the Project Server 2013?
Is there an easy way for anywhere there is an Export to Excel option on the Ribbon to add the formatting back?
What is the best solution to still retain the indents, bolding, and grouping?

    Jason --
I can confirm your findings with exporting PWA pages in Project Server 2013 to Excel.  As to why Microsoft removed the feature previously found in Project Server 2007, I have no idea, as I do not work for Microsoft.  I do not believe there is any
way to force the Export to Excel feature to work the same in 2013 as it did in 2007.  I think it will be up to the user to format the exported Excel workbook as needed.  Hope this helps.

  • Cannot export Luminance settings when exporting TIF from Lightroom 4

    Hi All,
A problem that's come up today!
I use quite heavy Luminance noise reduction on my images as they are shot at very high speed ISO...
I adjust this in L4, picture in preview looks as smooth as a babies bottom and perfect...
I then export as a TIF file at Adobe 1998 and when I open it in Photoshop 5 the image is really noisy like I've not done the adjustments at all...
I use a 17inch Macbook Pro with the lastest operating system, this is the second performace issue over the last few week (problems with LB too)...I export my files manually using a card reader as RAW files, from a Canon 5D Mark 3...
    Is it worth re-installing?
    Thanks!
    Sarah

    Hi Rikk,
    Thanks for the feedback :-)
My Photoshop is actually CS4 rather than 5...sorry for the misinformation!
I'm rendering 16 Bit Tiff's from Lightroom 4 into the above but it seems to only happen to images with a really blue hue...
I'll upgrade to 6 via a trail and see how I get on...Thanks for the info :-) I'll get back to you...
    Cheers!

  • When exporting to epub, only about 1/3 of my chapters are getting the page breaks. Each chapter is in its own doc, and I've tried splitting it apart by doc. and by H1, with no luck. HELP

All my paragraph styles seem to jive, and no matter what I do, most of my chapters seem to miss their page breaks. I've heard of others having this issue with older versions of Indesign, but I'm on CC2014, and I thought that should be fixed by now. I really don't want to have to learn HTML code and go break open the epub doc to fix it manually, because that doesn't always work across all devices either.  I know others have to of  run into this problem before. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure the paragraph style applied to the chapter title (if that's the first line of each chapter) is tagged. Open the paragraph style and go to Export Tagging and check Split Document (epub only). Then when you export (assuming you are using reflowable) under General>Split Document check Based on Paragraph Style Export Tags. Try it and let us know if this helps.

    That's been my finding, yes.

  • Report Header problem when exporting as Editable RTF

Hey i was advised to post my query to this forum. My query is this Thread My report Header shows underneath my Page Header in Crystal reports 2008 can someone help me please?

    hi Demeleo,
i was going through old forum posts and saw this one...did this get resolved?
    Hey
I created reports in Visual Studio 2008 with crystal reports basic, i then upgraded to Crystal reports 2008 so i could be able to export them as EditableRTF. My first problem was i could not open my reports in VS 2008 anymore, but i do open them in The CR 2008 IDE. My problem now is when i export my reports my report header appears underneath my page header and my page number stays one. I noticed this happens when i export a report as EditableRTF.How can i Export my report to be editable without having this problems?
using cr 2008 v1 (for cr server) i was not able to reproduce this issue when exporting to RTF.
when exporting to Word, Editable, i can see this issue. mostly because the word export has the cr page header info going into the word page header.
as the word export is essentially an RTF export anyway, i would recommend getting the latest patches / service pack for your cr and the RTF export should be what you're looking for.

  • InDesign Crashes when exporting to InCopy

I support several hundred InDesign/ InCopy users. We have been using this workflow for several years.
Approximately a month ago, we migrated to CS5 (7.0.3). I began to immediately get support calls that InDesign and InCopy were crashing. A few of the calls were that InCopy was crashing when pasting text from MS Office, but he overwhelming majority of the calls are for InDesign crashing when exporting stories to InCopy. If exported one at a time, the stories export fine. When exporting all stories or an entire text layer of stories, it will crash nearly without fail.
Our environment consists of Mac Pro 2x2.66Ghz and 2.8Ghz Intel Core Duo 2 iMacs running 10.5.8. with CS5 7.0.3. This is happening on multiple machines. A few of them have been gone over to verify base OS integrity, permissions repaired, DiskWarrior run etc… to make sure we did not have individual machine issues.
I need resolution for both issues, but the crashing while exporting is so prevalent that my graphic designers are starting to really get aggravated.
I searched the forum for "InCopy", for "export" and for "crash." None of those terms returned a single hit. I can't imagine those terms are not in this forum, so I am working on the assumption that searching must be broken at the moment.
Thanks in advance for any guidance,
    Kevin

  • Possible Bug in ID5.5 When Exporting Images to ePub

Just wanted to relate my experience with exporting images to ePub in InDesign CS5.5. I've already spent the better part of two weeks trying to find a resolution for the problem with Adobe's customer service techs in India. Nice guys, but so far not of much help.
Here's the problem. when exporting ID documents to ePub, and you're selecting your options in the "Image" export dialog box, you are offered two choices: "Fixed" and "Relative to Page." In theory, "Relative to Page" is the best choice because this means your images will be automatically scaled for the different viewing devices (i.e. iPad, Kindle, mobile phone, laptop). If you select "Relative to Page," however, your images will export with pixilation.
This may not happen to everyone, but it happened to me, as well as the last tech I spoke in India. I'm using a MacBook Pro running 10.6.7. Don't know what he was using, but he got the same results on his end when exporting an image to ePub using "Relative to Page." For me, the fonts look especially horrible in Adobe Editions. If you select "Fixed," they'll export just fine, (looked great in Adobe Editions and Kindle Previewer), but don't know how fixed size renders in the different devices.
This particular exchange was last Friday. The tech verified that we had a problem he couldn't solve and told me he had to speak with his "senior," who had already gone home for the weekend. I received an email today informing me that all I had to do was select the high quality performance settings in ID, and the image would look "pretty" while the file was open in the program. Really? I mean, duh. What does that have to do with the EXPORT problem?
And yes, I know to select the maximum quality setting in export. I'm a photographer who has used Photoshop since the 1990s. Used InDesign, QuarkXpress, and Pagemaker, in reverse order for that long as well, so I know how to prepare a file for print and the web. The techs I've spoken with have assured me I'm selecting the correct settings. Program has not only been uninstalled and reinstalled, but I went the extra drastic step of wiping my harddrive and starting over. No third-party plug-ins installed that didn't come with the original Adobe software. Have the latest ID update. The problem simply doesn't have a solution in my case.
Oh, well. As I say, nice guys, but this is my third time speaking with tech support about a problem with Adobe software. Not going to try again. IMHO, the customer service system/process could use some work.

As I said, it may not happen to everyone. Perhaps with a different operating platform or system version it may not happen. I was only reporting it because it happened to not just myself, but to the tech half a world away who shared my screen, saw the problem, and recreated it on his own machine/system.
Here are the selections in the ePub Export dialog box that caused the problem. I can't imagine that what is selected for TOC settings or other non-image settings would have to do with it, but here they are.
    1. File > Export > Choose ePub as Format
    2. In ePub dialog box: General Settings
    Include Document Metadata checked
ePub Cover, you can select Rasterize first page or Use Existing Image File, makes no difference
    Ordering, Based on Articles Panel
    Formatting Options: Leave as Default
    3. In ePub dialog box: Image
    Preserve Appearance from Layout checked
Resolution, doesn't matter what you select, all produces the same result
Everything in the first section below this is as default
Image Conversion: JPEG (I've been using JPEG, but also tried it with a TIFF, and even a Photoshop file, no difference)
    JPEG Options: Maximum, Progressive
Ignore Object Export Settings: I usually have this checked, but have tried it unchecked, and it made no difference
    4. In the ePub dialog box: Contents
    Format ePub Content: XHTML
Use InDesign TOC Style checked (I've tried the default, and my own TOC style, no difference)
CSS Options: I've tried Generate CSS and Use existing CSS template, never used Styles only. Made no difference
    5. Click OK.
If you need what I do from the beginning...
    1. New file: Print (not web, which tends to not honor the HTML tags on export). I typically chose 1024 x 768 because that's the screen resolution for an iPad.
    2. Command-D, place file. I've tried JPG, TIFF, even Photoshop files of varying resolutions from 72 to 300. Files sizes from 800x600 to 1024x768 to sizes approximately double this. No difference.
    3. Drag cover to Articles Panel and name.
    4. Layout rest of eBook, etc.
    5. Display performance settings while in ID are set to High Quality.
    6. Triple check for errors (always a green light before exporting).
These are ePub files that have validated, after fiddling with the CSS and XHTML file, as necessary, of course. I don't mess with any image coding.
    That's the steps!

  • How do I assign different Epub export tags in InDesign CS6?

I have at least 3 paragraph styles that I can not get to export the way I want them with InDesign CS6. I have my main paragraph style. Then another based on the main that I would like to have extra space before it. I did this in InDesign with a setting of 0.25 in in space before in the Indents and Spacing options. A third paragraph style I want to stand apart from the others with an indented right and left margins plus space above and below. It looks good in InDesign but when I export to Epub all 3 paragraphs look alike. I assume that I have to do something with the Edit All Export Tags settings but what?
Thank you for any assistance someone can give me.

I've moved your question to the InDesign EPUB forum.
EXACTLY what version of CS6 are you running? There was a bug in an early version of CS6 that prevented either space before or space after from being recognized (I forget which). It was fixed in a later version.
What does it say in the About InDesign dialog?

  • Mixed fonts when exporting ePub file from InDesign

I am an ePubs newbie and have been watching some of the training videos on Lynda.com and  tried creating my first ePub document today.
I am having problems with mixed fonts when exporting the file and viewing on iBooks on an iPhone.
I have a document with paragraphs of text to be in a regular weight and certain words within the paragraphs are to be picked out in bold. So I've used a Paragraph Style for the main text and then used a Character Style to pick out the bold words. Simple enough!!
On export I am not embedding any fonts as I have unchecked that option on the export dailaogue. I have used the same font family in InDesign, but I cannot work out why I am getting both Serif and Sans Serif fonts displaying when viewing it on the iPhone. The main body appears in the Sans Serif font, but I have the bold character styles, subheads and even the numbers in the numbered lists are all displaying in a Serif Font.
In iBooks I can change the display font (I have the choices: Georgia, Iowan, Palatino, Seravek and Times New Roman) and this affects the fonts which are displaying as Serif, but the main body font remains constant as a Sans Serif (looks like Helvetica).
I would ideally like all the fonts in the document to display as Sans Serif with certain words, plus the headings and subheadings to be in the bold weight version of the same font family.
I've tried this in CS5.5 and CS6 with the same results.
Can anyone offer any suggestions please.

    Hi Steve,
Yes, you are correct. It is Anne-Marie Concepcion's videos that I've been watching.
I understand what you are saying about testing in other readers and I will be looking into that further. However our main task is to get some of our client's manuals and documents into a digital version that can be read on  Apple devices, as these are what are being used by their sales force.
We have already produced some documents for use on the iPad and have used iBooks Author for that with some success. They have now asked about getting something onto iPhones, so we are now looking into the ePub format to do that. I realise that ePubs can also be used on iPads, but we would still be pushing the iBooks Author files for use on iPads as there is more interactive widgets that can be included. But the main ePub reader that will be used is going to be iBooks, so we are looking to get something to work in that App. Other formats may follow, but we are starting with getting something to work on iBooks first.
I have tried viewing the file in Adobe Digital Editions as you have suggested and have to say that this displays the file in a way that is certainly more appealing, as the fonts are at least consistent. However, I understand from Anne-Marie's videos that ADE is rather basic and is only intended as a rough proofing device. Which is why I transferred my ePub to my iPhone and iPad to view in iBooks.
As I have mentioned, I am a total ePub newbie. I come from a mainly print background and my knowledge of CSS and HTML is very basic. I have an understanding of the concepts, but I would always rely on developers to produce websites that I may have designed.
You seem to be implying that it may be in iBooks where the issues lie and from viewing the file in ADE this would certainly look that way. So I am simply trying to establish what I would need to do to make it work in iBooks in a more satisfactory way.
I have included some screen grabs below to illustrate my problems...
    ePub viewing in ADE
If it looked like this on the iPhone I would be relatively happy!!!
    ePub on iPhone
The main body copy is displaying in a sans serif font (Helvetica?) yet the heading, subheadings, numbers of the numbered lists, address, URL and legal line are all displaying as a serif font. All the style sheets are assigned to the same font family in InDesign (Helvetica). I have managed to get the bold text to appear in the sans serif font, by mapping the character style to the "strong" tag in the Export Tagging dialogue. All other paragraph styles are left as "Automatic".
I can change the font in iBooks and this affects the displaying of all styles apart from the main body, which stays consistently in the "Helvetica" font.
    iPhone Fonts
    iPad Fonts
On the iPad I'm also getting some elements coming in justified which looks awfull (see the main heading above). This image also shows how changing to an alternative font changes the heading and subheadings, but does not affect the main body!!!
    Any suggestions???
    Thanks
