Export time for QT Conversion

I'm exporting a 3 1/2 minute sequence to .mov using QT conversion. The project is mostly jpgs with panning and zooms. Do that motion slow down the conversion? It's taking about 20 minutes. Seems slow compared to my other all-video projects.

Sequence settings are
720 X 480 NTSC DV (3:2)NTSC-CCIR 601
Field Dominance lower
QT video settings DV/DVCPRO-NTSC
Quality - 100 %
Audio: 48khz
Depth 16-bit Config. Default
Convert to:
Quick TIme movie - use default settings
(Compression H.264
Quality high
Key frame rate 24
Frame reordering YES
encoding mode : Multi oass
Dimensions 812x609
I'm converting to QT movie so that I can put clip/sequence on a DVD.
IF I should use different setting please advise. I'm fairly new with this.
THANKS.

  • Export DB for Unicode conversion by SAPInst for distributed System

    Hi,

  • 10 hour export time for 2 minute video

    Hi,
I am using Premiere Pro CS3 with Windows Vista.
My laptop has 50gb of free disk space and 4gb of memory.
I have recently purchased a new Cannon camera that records video in Mov with res 1920x1080.
I have a six minute video clip that is 860mb in its original format. I am attempting to resize the video to 1280x720 whilst also altering the levels and changing the speed/duration to 220%. With this alteration to the speed the clips length is reduced to around 2 or 3 minutes long. I wish to export the video as a Mov, keeping it in its original format.
When attempting to render by hitting enter on the clip, or skipping straight to exporting, I recieve an estimated time of 10 hours to complete. The exportation seems to be going ahead but only by 1 frame every 10 or 20 seconds.
Would really appreciate any tips with where i'm going wrong with this. I'm fairly inexpiernced with premiere pro and therefore do not know if this is a problem with settings I am using or just with my computer.
    Thanks Very Much
    Tim

1st - the average laptop is going to be VERY slow for video editing (more below)
    - Laptop Video Editing PC http://forums.adobe.com/message/4578948
    - go to http://ppbm5.com/ and check the laptop results to "guesstimate" where your brand/model would place
2nd - even a fast computer may be slow, depending on the video file and with "combined" effects
More on why the "average" laptop is slow... plus, of course, the average laptop has a 5400rpm drive instead of 7200rpm
Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
    Partition = Crash http://forums.adobe.com/thread/957286
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for SD (Standard Definition) video editing
Steve Grisetti in the Premiere Elements forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856208 and Jim Simon in the Premiere Pro forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856433 use USB externals for editing
A USB3 hard drive connected to a motherboard with USB3 is supposed to be fast enough for video editing (I don't have such, so don't know) but eSata DOES have a fast enough data transfer for video editing... I have not used the eSata hardware below... for reference only, YMMV and all the usual disclaimers

  • Why does the export pdf for word conversion get hung up?

I need to convert pdf file to Word 97-2003.  When I follow all the steps it moves into the uploading file stage and then gets hung up and doesn't finish download.  Blue down load file indicator stays on but download doesn't happen.

I am doing it from my home computer.  I pay a yearly service fee for that
option and it's frustrating that I cannot access it, even though I could
    before.

  • Documentation or guide for DB host to run SAPInst for Unicode Conversion

    Hi,
In a distributed <b>(CI and DB installed on separate host)</b> SAP NW 7.0 ABAP+JAVA system Usage Type MI , I run SAPInst to export DB for Unicode conversion in DB host. But SAPInst failed to locate the java tools that I found them in the \usr\sap\<SID>\sys\globlal folder <b><u>in CI host only</u></b>.
Any documentation or guide with detail on the preparation of tool or files in a standalone DB host prior to execute System Copy -> Export DB with SAPInst.
    Regards,
    Ricky

Thanks Deepak, I'm trying to understand how a 220GB+ system can be compressed to 7GB.  I can understand some shrinkage because of temp space and indexes, but that seems pretty extreme.  I would have expected 70-90GB.  Even 10% is 3x what I have.
The problem I am having is with sapinst.  When I run the Export steps, all I am left with is exactly what you list.  Just the LABEL, and the empty DATA and DB dir trees.  sapinst finishes, says it was sucessful, but then when I fire up MIGMON to actually start the export, it is looking for DDLORA.TPL, and the EXT and STR files.  Based on what I am reading, sapinst is supposed to create those (and I see them being generated during the PREP phase), but if I don't move things manually, export_monitor.sh just sees empty directories.
Let's do it a different way.  Once you have completed running the sapinst export steps, what files are in the <export dir> that MIGMON is supposed to pick up and use?

  • Massive export times

    Hello,
Reading the FCP X Help topics etc I think I have a good understanding of import/export criteria. However, I have it from some peers that I could do much better with regard to reducing the massive render times I am experiencing.
Currently the render time for an 8minute clip is 26 hours using Compressor 4 using preset 'HD 1080 Video Sharing (H2.64) - AAC
    BACKGROUND:
    OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)
    17-inch, Late 2008 MacBookPro
2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    FCX 10.0.8
Raw footage is 1920 - 1080 from Canon D7 card -  copied to an external HD.
Import settings: both proxy and optimised - both with huge export times as above.
Destination to Movei folder or desktop
The 8 minute sequence includes filters which I know will increase processing time, but by this much is pretty horrendous. (a 'preset' colour correction + sharpen + manual colour correction)
My understanding is that if I import - or later convert all footage - into optimised files - these become ProRes222 files which will give me much faster render and export times. But this does not seem to be happening.
It simply is not efficient or practical to myself or any clients to have 25 - 30 hour export times for 8 minute sequences
My impression is that this computer is simply not up to  faster rendering/export processing - but my peers tell me my currrent render/export times are rediculously long.
    Can any one advise please.
    Thank you.

    Phillip,
Clearly, your hardware is not the latest-greatest and your GPU has got to be a weak link in the export process. (As you probably know, FCP relies a lot on the GPU.) However, the times you are experiencing are way over the top. Our 15 inch MBP has only slightly better specs and we've never experienced anything close to what you're relating,
Make a new event with h.264 .mov clips from the 7D.. In a new project, assemble a simple 60 second sequence – no effects of some of those  clips  Open Activity Monitor, Export and time the export as h.264. Check AM to see whether you see anything weird going on. Then transcode the clips to Pro Res. Make a new project and export as PR 522– again, time the export and monitor.
Neither one of these exports should take longer than 5 minutes. If they do, I would suspect something funky going on with hardware. Speaking of hardware, if you're going to be editing with FCPX this machine, max out the RAM.
Post back with what you find.

  • How to estimate the time needed for unicode conversion

    Experts:
I am going to perform an upgrade from 46C (non-unicode) to ECC6/EHP4.
In the action plan , it's hard to estimate the time needed for unicode conversion.
We do not have a sandbox to benchmark that time.
Could you please help share your experience here?
    Thanks!!

    Hi,
usually it is very hard to estimate a proper time.
There are some hints to get a rough feeling (SAP note 857081 and [SMP link|http://service.sap.com/~form/sapnet?_SHORTKEY=01100035870000380759&_OBJECT=011000358700001279022010E] ).
However please note that SAP highly recommends to do a Sandbox conversion - otherwise there is a high risk that the PRD conversion will take (much) longer than expected.
    Best regards,
    Nils Buerckel

  • Question about compile-time legality rules for cast conversion

Hi, In the rules which explain compile-time legality for cast conversion, it is often mentioned the following scenario in the cast conversion of a compile-time type S to a compile-time type T:
if S is a class type then:
if T is a class type then either |S| <: |T| or |T| <: |S| or a compile time error occurs. Furthermore, if there exist a supertype X of T and a supertype Y of S such that X and Y are provably distinct parameterized types and that the erasures of X and Y are the same, a compile-time error occurs.
As regards the quote in bold, I imagine the following scenario:
    1) S <: T and extends Y
    2) Y<T1...Tn>
    3) X<T1..Tn>
    4) T extends X
Does the above represents a supertype X of T and a supertype Y of S such that X and Y are provenly distinct parameterized types? If that holds, what does it mean that the erasure of X and Y is the same?

Declarative programing has all but gone the way of
    the doe doe because...
1: It is not flexible (It is extremely difficult to
change a complex system in a predetermined way)isn't this the "expert system" model?
2: It lengthens the development cycle (see item 1)
3: It normally forces the developer to add many
things to there code to get things to work, that have
nothing to do with the intent of the code.more things? the declarations or the declaration processing?
In its defense (I like a declarative model but, do
not like being forced into one)...not advocating a forced change in Java
    1: It increases code safety.
2: It can shorten the development cycle, in certain
circumstances (especially if it is not overused),
because it can greatly increase the readability of
    code.
3: It follows many best practices (although this is
also possible in a Non-Declarative model).as for best practices what I'd like to see are declarative design patterns, Adapter, Singleton, Factory, Delegate, Strategy, Interpreter, Proxy, Visitor
too often the design intent is lost in an implementation or design details can only be deduced by class/field/method names, comments, and accompanying docs
So, if everyone had unlimited time, and an unlimited
budget, yes declaritive is the way to go. Since that
is not the case, we filtered out 99% of what it gave
us, made sure the stuff that was getting in the way
was removed, and what do you have???
    You guessed it OOA&D.
Now having said that should we be more declarative? I
think so, but I will tell you now, REQUIRING
declarative elements in code is a sure fire way to
get the majority of development groups to drop the
language (and I think Java as it stands currently CAN
be declarative, so if you have one of those unlimited
budgets, go for it!).no need to require it
I believe given good (reusable) declarative options, on top of OOP, will become the chosen approach
reusable design declarations would lessen overall cost and increase readability

While performing a Unicode Conversion, during Export, Unistall and Import of Database, I would like to improve times for Database Creation since its 5TB
My goal is to delete SAP/DB Instance Non-Unicode but keeping Tablespaces and Datafiles Layout, in order to not recreate them when re-installing SAP/DB Instance Unicode
According to SAP Note 1260050 - UNIX:Deleting Oracle DB Instance Based on NW7.1 and Higher, the steps are the following.
    drop user SAP<SCHEMA_ID> cascade;
    drop tablespace <TABLESPACE_NAME> including contents;
Are this steps valid to delete a ABAP Database, and keeping Datafiles structures for when Installing Unicode SAP Instance?
    Thanks!

The drop command "including contents" will delete the datafiles... thus SAPinst will have to create them again... and it can take while for a 5 Tb DB.
SAPinst is supposed to recreate the whole DB thus you should entirely delete it
    startup mount exclusive restrict
    drop database;
One solution would be to keep the datafiles
    => just run the first SQL command : drop user SAP<SCHEMA_ID> cascade;
and play with sapinst option SAPINST_SET_STEPSTATE to skip the DB creation step

  • Exporting video for iPod - audio OK but video is "white"

I know this issue has been raised before but I cannot find a clear resolution anywhere - happy to be pointed to the right place.
Some time ago I converted some old VHS home movies to DVD and they play fine. To view them via AppleTV I've converted them to MP4 using H.264/AAC via MEGUI, and they work fine in iTunes on the PC and on AppleTV.
Once they were in iTunes I tried converting them for iPod but the output is a blank white video screen though the audio is fine.
To diagnose the problem I tried loading the MP4 version directly into Quicktime (Version 7.6.8)where the play fine. Then I tried exporting them for iPod and I get the same white screen plus audio.
I've seen this issue dismissed as due to some form of DRM but I doubt that is the case here. The video is my own, the DVDs I created are not CSS protected and the MP4s are also unprotected.
I've also seen it attributed to a missing codec, but that is unlikely given both iTunes and Quicktime play the videos without a hitch.
Any clues on how to proceed?
    John

Last post before I leave things alone for a while.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime and iTunes no longer chews up lots of CPU when trying to convert one particular Quicktime created file.
I've also recreated each file again from the same source, the AVI encoded as DV-PAL with screen res of 720x576. I created a series of test cases to try to pin the problem down and I think the best exposition is the following -
    The problem
An MPEG4 file exported from Quicktime loads and plays in iTunes, plays on AppleTV and can be converted for iPod.
An almost identical MPEG4 file created by MEGUI using the x264 encoder, latest build 1649, and all the same settings as Quicktime loads and plays in iTunes, plays on AppleTV but when converted for iPod produces a file with audio but the video is "white". Looking at the file size, less than 2mb, it is pretty obvious that the video stream is simply not there.
    Clues
Quicktime Movie Inspector reports the screen resolution of the file it exported as 720x540 while for the MEGUI created file it reports a very odd 787x576. Note that Windows Media Player and YAMB (MP4Box utility) both report this same file as 720x576 which is what I would expect as MEGUI did not resize the video. As an aside, WMP and YAMB also report the Quicktime created file as 720x540 so they agree with Quicktime on that score at least.
    Obvious Question
Why does Quicktime report an incorrect screen resolution, and is this contributing to the conversion problem in iTunes?
My understanding is that MPEG4 uses 16x16 macroblocks and so the dimensions of anything to be encoded must be in multiples of 16 and 787 is not a multiple of 16.
Of course, the 787x576 screen resolution could be a red herring.
Details from Quicktime Movie Inspector follow:

  • Exporting HDV for DVD

I'm shooting HDV with a Z1, and editing in HDV. I cannot get decent quality compressing for DVD through Compressor, nor if I compress a QT file. So I have to print to tape, then downconvert, and compress that, which gives excellent results. Downconverting to SD 4.3 is no problem, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to downconvert to SD 16.9. I know it's doable, because I've done it once, and can't remember what I did. What I'm getting is a very small image that needs enlarging to 300% in the motion tab, which gives lousy quality. Any suggestions how to get high quality compression from HDV, or how to downconvert to SD 16.9?

If the destination is ultimately a DVD, then you should export from FCE to *QuickTime Movie* ... NOT QuickTime Conversion.
To speed up your export time, do the following BEFORE exporting your video:
    +Sequence > Render All > Both+ and
    +Sequence > Render Only > Mixdown+
When you export to QuickTime Movie, UNCHECK the option called +"Make Movie Self-Contained".+ Doing this will create what is called an QT reference movie. It will be relatively small and export quickly. You can import this into iDVD and create your DVD project same as if you had exported a self-contained movie from FCE.
Note that all DVDs are standard def, not high def. Assuming your project is 16:9 aspect ratio, it will be the same on the DVD, only it will be standard def. The only true high def media is BluRay, for which you need a BluRay burner and software (DVDStudio Pro or Toast).

  • Increase export times

    Hi all-
I'm under the gun a bit with a Friday deadline and tons of video to export into h.264 files destined for streaming.
As always, I'm just doing a Export>Using Quicktime conversion with the settings that I like, but the export times are pretty brutal. 20 minutes or so for a five minutes of video. My machine usually runs pretty fast.
One thing that is a bit different is that I'm using some very long sequences. Upwards of 3.5 hours. But, I'm using in and out markers to cut into 3-5 minute clips. My assumption would be that FCP is looking only at the in and out markers, so I don't know why the size of the sequence might matter, but perhaps it does. Maybe I should cut my sequences smaller - though again - I can't imagine why that would matter? Any thoughts on this or other ways that I can expedite a bit without lowering quality settings?
Also, I typically only use compressor when I'm exporting to an mpeg format, but can I use compressor to generate h.264? That way maybe I could create a batch that could render some of these clips overnight?
Any thoughts or advice on how I can pick this up a bit is definitely appreciated.
    Warm regards-
    David

I figured as much (though I can't really check the export utility now, because I'm in the middle of a brutally long export of a five minute clip).
    I'll do that for overnight.
How about while I'm awake? I always prefer to monitor things vs. the overnight batch. In your experience does exporting to h.264 through compressor work faster than through export using qt conversion?
Maybe I'll give that a "go" with one clip once this current job is done and see for myself.

  • Increase the number of portions in process for each conversion object

    I experts,
I configured SAP TDMS 3.0 with SP 14 to transfer test data from QAS to DEV (both is ECC 6.0) for the first test with TDMS TIM (Time Based Reduction).
The data transfer phase is still running (99% - 60hs running). We analyzed the Display Runtime Information report and see that objects of conversion with similar calc. records and calc. GBytes have very different the Net Runtime.
TMDS currently is working with four objects of conversion, processing a portion of each.
Conversion objects that are running are:
    - Z_LTBP_002
    - Z_TSEGE_002
    - Z_VEVW_002
    - Z_YST27_002
We check in the receiver system, and we see that is use only one DIA process to update the each table.
How can increase the performance of the update? Is correct that use only 1 DIA process for this??
Can I increase the number of portions in process for each conversion object?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Sergio
