Export time lapse for Premiere

(I'm a switcher from Final Cut Pro to AE/PrPRo, normally I would assemble timelapses in QT 7 pro as Prores then import and edit/"pan" in FCP.)
I have shot a bunch of timelapses as jpegs.  I gather that I want to assemble the image sequence in After Effects and then export a video from AE to be imported into Premiere.
Qs:
How would I assemble the timelapses in AE?
How do I save them out of AE for use in Premiere?   (format, settings, etc..)
I want the native resolution of the 18 megapixel image which is approx 5200x3500 px, not scaled down to 1080p, can Premiere work with that resolution?
Thanks for your time.

There's no need to convert an image sequence to ProRez. Image sequences load just fine in After Effects, Premiere Pro, or Final Cut.
Your best option would be to do a batch resize in Photoshop to something close to the final size the un-cropped image will be in your project.
The reason for downsizing the images is to improve the look and to speed up rendering. AE and Premiere can easily handle the full resolution images but neither will do as good a job as a nicely written action in Photoshop.
Check the preferences and see what frame rate your APP assigns as a default to image sequences. In AE it's 30. If you're project is something else (23.976 for example) then either change the setting in the preferences or change the file interpolation after the image sequence is imported.
Thanks for your reply Rick.
I was thinking that just importing the jpegs as an image sequence would be more taxing on the computer than "baking" them down to a video file, even though that video file would be 5200x3500px.
Ideally, I would like to retain all the resolution of the images so I have more options in Premiere for doing pans/zooms.  If I do want to convert to a video file, what format would be appropriate?
Is there a way I could use Adobe Camera RAW in conjunction with After Effects to export a graded, full resolution video file of my image sequence for Premiere?
If I use your workflow, could I bypass the Photoshop batch resize step and just import the image sequence into Premiere?  Is there an Interpret Footage dialog inside Premiere like in AE for me to set framerate to 23.976?
Thanks again.

  • Importing Time Lapse into Premiere CS4

Yes, I am new & Yes I have trawled through TFM and FAQs and am lost in info overload!
I need advice on setting up Premiere ready to import the sequence and once the movie is ready, the best export settings for uploading to Vimeo
I have made several time lapse (TL) sequences using a Canon 20D SLR (I also have a 5D2 but reluctant to use it for TL because of image/file size)
The 20D at the smallest setting give me an image size 1728 x 1152 and file size approx 950Kb per image. The average quantity of images per T/L sequence is 1400 images (frames)
I can import them as a sequence and run them as a movie but need to 'Scale as'.
Q1: Is this OK to import large images or should I resize them in Photoshop first? I don't want to go through that procedure if I can avoid it.
Q2: Can someone give/advise me of a Premiere 'Setup profile' to accomodate importing from a still camera sequence. I am confused by all the various options offered. I only want to view on a monitor.
Q3: According to Vimeo FAQ, they recommend H.264/AAC codec (MP4). What do other Vimeo users export as?
Q4: If I have setup Premiere 'Capture mode' (only 2 choises: DV& HDV) initially to DV and export the file as 640 x 480, Can I re export the same project as 1280x720?
    Many thanks.

    Thanks for your reply
Through trial and error I discovered the answer to the resizing before I read your reply. Had I still been struggling and in doubt, your efforts would have given me the answer I needed.
In fact I have set up a couple of batch resizes in PS with some post work (A sniff of smart sharpen) before saving to a 'resized' folder.
I haven't read your article as yet - just a quick scan - It looks very useful and I look forward to giving it the time it deserves. Thanks for your efforts.

  • How to create a time-lapse with Premiere Elements?

    To whom it may concern,
I have a DSLR (Rebel T3i) and I am planning to set it to take pictures every so often. I heard there was a way to do it within Premiere Elements and would rather save money since I already own this great software. I would like to have the steps to do so as soon as possible.

  • Plug-In for Time-Lapse for Lightroom 5

I'm doing a time-lapse in Lightroom 5 and understand all the steps expect the one towards the end which deals with the Template Browser.  From my understanding in order to export my time-lapse video as a video I will need to downlaod a free plug-in.  What plug in woulf that be and can someone explain the Template Brower more as well?  Also can anyone explain the IRTimelapse sorftware and do I have to buy this on top of the Lightroom 5 as well?

The IRTimelapse software have their own website, you would be better served going there for an explanation. As it's not Adobe software you have to pay separately.

  • Problems with time lapse in Premiere Pro cs5.5

About a month ago I tried to make a time lapse with my Canon 7D.
I imported the pictures to Lightroom and exported them as JPG. Than in Premiere Pro I clicked on import, selected the first image and checked the "numbered stills" box. It all worked as it should.
Yesterday I tried to do this again. The only different thing is the cameras but I don't think that's the problem (it's the 5D mk2).
When I import the photos as numbered stills in premiere pro it and drop it in the sequence all seems ok. When I move the slider in the sequence forward and backward it also seemed ok at first but now it shows no pictures but only a black screen with some noise (like tv noise). If I export it there is no movie, just black screen with noise.
Where seems to be the problem?
When I drop it into the sequence I can also change the scale of the image to fit the screen and that all seems ok... :/
I can even play a preview inside the premiere pro and it's almost ok (it's not a smooth playback, but it plays as it should...tough it drops some frames).

    Welcome to the forum.
When Still Images show as black, the first things that I investigate is the pixel x pixel dimensions of the images. With many Stills, even if they are within the allowed pixel x pixel range, one's computer's resources can be used up, and an alternate workflow might be useful - Scale the Images to match the Frame Size of the Sequence, prior to Import, in a program, like Photoshop. This ARTICLE might be helpful.
The second thought is that the video driver is no longer performing properly, and needs to be updated. What is make/model of your graphics card, and what is the current number/date of your installed video driver?

  • HT4681 Problem exporting time lapse with FCPX 10.0.6

I have been trying to export my time lapse and it processes for a bit, then this message comes up:
The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain error -1.)
Before updating to version 6, I had no problems exporting dozens of time lapses.  As far as I know, I'm not doing anything differently than my previous ones. This is not even the biggest file I've processed.
I have Compressor 4, and that fails as well.
    Thanks for any help

See if it will export with other settings, like Master File, Pro Res. If it does, you can then do your h.264 encode in Compressor.
Whether that works or not, try the usual troubleshooting steps of trashing preferences and repairing permissions.
(I'm also assuming that you followed Tom's advice to make sure both FCP and Compressor were updated to their latest versions.)

  • Best Export / Video settings for Premiere Pro. Help Needed.

What's the best settings when you want to export a video from Premiere Pro for the web or otherwise. Best settings = good quality video and LOW file size.
Benchmark : The videos on Apple Trailers. Check them out at http://www.apple.com/trailers
The trailers are of high quality video, great sounds, and the Large sizes all fall under the 25MB mark. Any ideas on HOW this is done and what
settings in Premiere Pro CS3 might be able to replicate such standards?
Any help is appreciated. I normally use Encoder and export using H264 but that always seems to have an Audio lag. Any similar issues?
    Thanks a mil!

I understand that better quality = bigger file size. That's true in most cases, but there is a way around it, I'm just not sure what that way is. As I mentioned in the original post, the benchmark is http://www.apple.com/trailers . The non-HD videos on any movie page on that site hardly ever exceeds the 25MB mark. The videos are 2-3minutes long, and while they may not be top-notch BD visuals, they look way better than 95% of the stuff that's streamed off the net.
That's why I asked if anyone had any ideas on how to replicate something like that. Say I had a avi file of great quality, shot with a Panasonic DV Cam. I Capture the footage, do whatever I have to in Pr, and the result is now a 3minute video. I want it exported to a Quicktime file, I want it to look visually pleasing like the trailers on Apple, and I want it to fall under 25MB. I have tried H.264 encoding, regular Quicktime, and Quicktime via Encoder. Nothing reaches the expected quality.
For more examples visit http://www.passionpictures.com.my/pages/recent.aspx and download those simple 30second clips. All Quicktime, mostly under 5.5MB. If Pr can't do it, then I don't know what can...so I'm sure Pr can do it.
Problem is, how? Experimentation is definitely a way to go, I get that. But on the basis of the scenario given above...how is it done?

  • Exporting to After Effects for Time Lapse video

Using Lightroom 5, what are the best export settings for pics to be imported into After Effects in order to make a Time Lapse video?

    Hi(Bonjour)
Export with quicktime conversion to a movie encoded in animation codec for video aiff 16 bit 48khz to get better result. You'll get a pretty large uncompressed movie file.

  • Time Lapse export

    Hello,
Is there a way to export in Lightroom for a time lapse. I have about 700 images and I want to make a movie out of it. I have the Suite Production package so Premiere is at my disposal. I just am having problems with the correct output.

Premier can import image files in most formats. I usually use psd, 8 bit, sRGB, sharpen for screen at minimum long edge at 1280 or 1920 (for HD) dependent on how you ouput your video and let the video editor do the rendering to size. If it is for HD video you may wish to crop the image to a 16:9 ratio. Just place each image on the time line and then sort out how many frames each image should occupy etc. in the video editor.

  • Quicktime movie rendering for time lapse does not work in CS4

    Hey guys,
I m trying to render a time lapse video on PS CS4 and the process works well up until the export window. When i go there the first option under file options, quick time export, is unavailable( grayed out). The only available option is Image sequence. What do i have to do to enable the quicktime movie creation or any other movie format for that matter? Thank you.

    Welcome to the forum.
For PS CS4, I assume that you have PS-Extended. Is that correct?
    What OS/platform?
Do you have Apple's QT installed on that computer? If so, what version?

  • I am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully,

i am having problems exporting my time lapses from quick time pro i need to save my files as photo jpegs but the standard video compression window will not open fully, it just keeps my mac (old 1.6Ghz 2.5 GB sdram G5 still good for most stuff i need) spinning for ever but i can see compression type H.264 selected and the other setting but i can not select any other options as it still thinking but never opens! why is this happening how do i get round it?
my work flow is: 300 images shot on a 5d mark II medium jpegs opened in Light Room cropped to 16:9 then exported and opened in quick time i can save a .mov H264 giving me files sizes of 14 mb for a 16 second time lapse, mp4 9 mb. the only way i can get large files is saving as a self contained movie then i get 300mb files.
i need to save my files 1920 x 1080 photo jpeg codec as i want HD quality.
i am sure there is a simple way round this?
    thanks guys!

It is very difficult to offer troubleshooting suggestions when the "os version" you are using is unknown as each os has their own troubleshooting solutions.

  • New laptop workstation for time lapse editing

    Hello all,
I'm in the process of buying a new custom laptop, and I seek your inputs regarding the specs,
The laptop will be based on the Clevo P370EM chassis, a pretty robust machine.
17.3" Full HD (1920x1080) Glossy 90% NTSC Color Gamut LED Backlit LCD, since I will be on-the-move most of the time
Plus I want a recommendation for a stationary, Full color scale display for stationary usage. And I plan to calibrate all this using the Spyder4 tool.
    Intel Core i7-3840QM 2.8GHz, 8M L3 Cache, 22nm, DDR3-1600MHz, Quad-Core Mobile Processor
    32GB (4 x 8GB) , PC3-12800, 1600MHz SODIMM
NVIDIA 680M 4096MB GDDR5 DX11 Compliant Video Card, I was flirting with the idea of getting the Quadro K5000M, but after a little research decided to go with the GTX. And CS6 does not support SLi so that's a pass too. Yet, still open for inputs.
Crucial m4 128GB mSATA Solid State Drive
Intel 240GB 520 Series SATA III 6Gb/s Solid State Drive Sandforce Powered, I read somewhere that Sandforce drivers are bad, any clarification on this one? This hard drive will be the primary one, for the OS and Software. Not a Brand-dedicated user, but I want something that lasts, I'm not looking for something that fails every now n then.
750GB 7200 16MB Cache SATA Notebook Hard Drive, this will be a secondary hard drive for general files and probably small projects. I tend to save each project on its own hard drive, so I guess 750 will be enough for my own entertainment.
The machine will be running windows 8 ultimate/7 ultimate, 64-bit.
This is my build so far, I'm still open for any suggestions.
My main usage is lightroom since I'm a photographer, but due to my inclination to time-lapses I will definitely use photoshop for batch processing about a 1000 hi-res photographs, then export to Premier to stitch it up, and probably will end up in After-Effect for Simple 3D work.
Thanks for reading and passing by,
    Hazaa3 =)

Keep in mind the firmware on each of the SSD drives whether they have Sandforce or Marvell controllers are manufacturer, Model, and version specific. That means many of the Garbage collection/trim instructions may be far better on one SSD drive than another with the a controller from the same manufacturer. We have yet to see any performance degradation on the Intel drives like we have other SF drives. However we have seen several Marvell controller drives with issues or far less performance.

  • Time Lapse import creates new clip for every frame!

I shot a time lapse film - five hours reduced to 4 minutes ie one frame every 4 seconds. The iMovie Import wizard created a separate 'Clip' for every frame, (which is unusable), and then crashes the program every time I try to open it, I guess because there are too many 'Clips' to handle.
Is there a way to import these discontinuous shots as a single clip? If iMovie can't do it, any ideas on a better way? I couldn't get Quicktime Pro to do any better - it opened thousands of separate windows on the desktop.
Fortunately, the original is on DV, though each frame has a different time stamp on it.
    Thanks for any ideas!

    FYI
I found that iMovie 6 was able to handle the multiple files and I could export them as an MPEG4 file. iMovie 08 bombed big time.
