Export to AppleTv and 5.1 audio

Why does Quicktime Pro not export 5.1 audio to AppleTv?
I have a few video files which have dolby 5.1 audio in them, Handbrake correctly exports to AppleTv with the 5.1 audio but Quicktime does not.

When I record a quicktime movie using the built in mic as the input source, everything is fine. When I use the line in to record sound, I only get sound out of one speaker on playback.
The current System QT structure does not support AC3 audio natively. Even with an AC3 component installed to decode AC3, it is only supported as stereo. The TV player software is modified to recognize/support "passthrough" AC3 operation in a manner similar to the way the Apple DVD Player software handles AC3 but only when the data is properly stored in an M4V container for TV use.

i have a hi-def tv with an apple tv connected to it. i also have an old (but good) receiver with 2 big speakers, they are connected to an airport express and i stream my music to them. does anybody know if i can use them as the speakers for the apple tv over airplay? or maybe, can a mac stream a video to apple tv but the audio to airport express?

If you had an AppleTV 1 this function was available - you could play a movie or music and send the audio to any available Airport 'speaker'.

Exporting Flash(SWF) and Getting No Audio

Hello All,
I'm new to these boards and have only posted once previously.
I'm recording lectures with Captivate 3 for University
professors speaking in front of a class using power point. I have
one Captivate project with about 570 slides. When I publish this
project to SWF and play it in html and/or the skin player there is
no audio.
There is audio when I play each slide or when I preview the
project but no audio when I publish it.
I have audio selected as MP3 96 kbps, 44.10 KHz in the
preferences of Publish but there's just nothing.
Any ideas of what could be going wrong?
Also, I'm not sure if I should post this in the Recording
category but during some of these long recordings, part of the
lectures end up recording blank white slides. There is audio as the
professor is speaking and surely there's an image on the computer
with power point but Captivate is recording pure white. Troubling.

I have the same problem here. I only have 47 slides, and
about 12 have audio. The total size of the .cp file is 15 mb. I
only hear audio when I am looking at the slides and press F3. None
of the slides are muted. I have made sure that the "Include Audio"
checkbox is checked. I do not have audio in preview mode or in the
published swf or exe file. I am at a loss here.

Simultaneously video to AppleTV and audio to Express?

Hi All, can I simultaneously stream the video output of a movie on iTunes to my projector connected to an AppleTV and the audio output of the movie to speakers connected to Airport Express? When I try to use multiple speakers in iTunes on my Mac it doesn't work. Only output on AppleTV runs, but nothing over the AirportExpress to my external speakers.

No, that will not work.
If playing content on the ATV, directly on the ATV with no iDevice involved, the audio can be sent to AirPlay speakers.
As soon as an iDevice is involved in sending content to the ATV, the option to send audio to the AirPlay speakers is removed.

Exporting HD video for use on AppleTV and iPod

I use a Canon HV30 HD camcorder. Work in FCE. Also have QTPro. I typically export from FCE as a pure .MOV file, then do my conversions to other formats in QTPro.
To get good quality on my Apple TV, I use QTPro to export to Apple TV. But then that video won't transfer to my iPod Touch, so I have to do another export with QTPro with iPod as my target.
Is there a happy medium that will show good results on the AppleTV and iPod? Obviously this can be done with standard def video because iTunes videos look fine on both. I think the HD is what's getting me.

Is there a way to combine the SD and HD files similar to when you download a movie from itunes how there is one file entry in iTunes for both the SD and HD version. Also I noticed movies and TV you download from iTunes can transfer to your Ipod (even though they are over the ipod specs 320x240). Is there a way to export videos larger than 320x240 and can transfer to the Ipod.

Final Cut Pro Audio Levels Low when exporting to mp3 and mp4

Hi everyone! When I export audio from Final Cut as an mp3, my levels are very low. When I export footage as an mp4, the audio is low as well. But before exporting, my levels are right at or below 0. So they are where they should be. So for example, when I open the audio in Adobe Audion or Logic, they could almost be doubled before peaking within those programs. Could this be a compression issue? And input would be helpful. Thanks!

Are you working 0n 10.0.9? If not, update FCPX and see whether that solves the problem.

AirTunes Audio to AppleTV AND AirportExpress? (simultaneously)

I've read that with the "Take 2" update, AppleTV owners can now sit down at iTunes and send music via AirTunes to their AppleTV. Can someone clarify one point here? Can users now send music via AirTunes to both an AppleTV and an AirportExpress AT THE SAME TIME? Does iTunes now allow you to select your AppleTV in the list of "Multiple Speakers", along with other AirportExpresses?

I couldn't be happier right now. I started up iTunes on my PC (which is connected to a whole-house audio system with the EXCEPTION of the room with my big screen and ATV - which is connected wirelessly), made a couple iTunes preferences changes, and started hearning the tunes through the entire house and back yard!!!! My shallow little life is complete.
But wait! It gets better! I sat down on the couch to eat my lunch and watch the screensaver on the ATV scrolls 12 years of family photos with the audio stream continuing. A song came on I didn't like so I "woke up" the ATV, clicked the right advance button and after 1.5 second delay, the ATV CHANGED THE TUNE PLAYING EVERYWHERE IN THE HOUSE! I controlled my PC from ATV - FROM MY COUCH!
Here is the one pref change that made it all possible:
itunes>edit>preferences>advanced>look for remote speakers...>"Allow iTunes control from remote speakers"

Not that I'm aware of. You just export JPEG copies to a folder that you can point iTunes to. For instance, I have created a folder in my Pictures folder called Apple TV. And within that folder I have other folders of pictures that I can choose from in iTunes to share with Apple TV. But there doesn't seem to be any way to share a Lightroom slideshow. If you have laid to create a video file that would probably work. Apple TV is a little clunky in my opinion. Some things are a little more difficult to do now than they were a while back. I probably haven't provided you with much help, but just keep experimenting and I think you will figure it out.

After export movies works and then is not working anymore?!

i am capturing HD movies to my final cut express HD..Edit them, expert as quick time movie (option self contain is OFF). Then i test the movies and they are like they should be. Then i import them into IDVD and IDVD accept some and some not. So when i check the not accepted movies they only play the sound. While 10 minutes before the movie was working correct.
After a few times (making the same movies again and again on the same maner) IDVD accepted alle the movies. But when i wanted to burn the dvd it gives me a error about a missing movie file, again and again?
It worked all okay when i made my other dvds.
The only thing changed at this system is that i upgraded to Ilife'11
What am i doing wrong?

Could it be that the link is broken after i change the movie from folder to a >other folder ?
The FCE Project File or the export?
Sequence>Render Only>Mixdown.
This action makes one temp file out of all your audio. It makes a difference to exported files playing correctly in the audio department.

Export for AppleTV - Settings messed up?

I have done it this way before (at least I thought this is how I did it):
File - Export - Using Quicktime Conversion - Format (Apple TV) -- name it and go...
Then drag this file to iTunes, and all is great... I can watch it on my iPhone or my AppleTV.
Last week I messed around with different export settings trying to get a short video small enough to email.
Now when I do the File-Export-etc to get a video into iTunes, the video's aspect ratio is messed up - it looks like it's squishing the 16:9 video into 4:3 - as if I have somehow messed up the preset for AppleTV.
My normal process is that I export 1 for iTunes to watch on my AppleTV, and I export 1 (File-Export-Quicktime Movie (self contained)) to keep as a "master" to burn DVDs, etc if I ever need to.
The "master" is in the correct aspect ratio, so I don't think it's something in the project - it won't play back on my computer, but that is another whole discussion, that I think is computer power related - see https://discussions.apple.com/message/16176561#16176561 if you want more info on that part.
How can I verify the settings that the AppleTV preset is using? Or should I be doing it another way?

Also note that some media files are protected under copyright law. Some downloaded music may be played only on the computer where the download occurred. Make sure the computer you are using has permission to play all the media files included in your document.

MOV exported from Keynote - last slide disappears, audio continues playing

I have a series of three mov files that were created in & exported from Keynote. They are audio & slide shows that are to autoplay on a website. Two of the files function as expected once embedded in the website, one does not; the last slide drops out (displaying a white screen) while the audio continues for approximately 30 seconds until the mov file ends. To add confusion to the issue ALL the files play as expected using Safari (on Win & Mac). Using Firefox on Mac delivers the "broken" results. Using ANY browser on Windows yields the broken result.

Since I am trying to do a number of things with Keynote, I read these discussions looking for opportunities and pitfalls.
I read your message, and saw your outcome as an issue. Since I've yet to add the soundtrack to my current project, I needed to know more about the outcome before I proceeded, in order to adjust accordingly.
I took my project, and added a song as the soundtrack. I played the slideshow, and the soundtrack played along, across the slides as it should. I then began to record the slideshow, but the soundtrack came playing through the speakers and was being picked up by the microphones, so I offed the speakers, donned my headphones, and re-began the recording. The soundtrack was playing (in the headphones), and I was narrating across many slides.
I played the recorded slideshow, and all was present - soundtrack and recorded narration.
I exported to Quicktime, sending the output to a new folder so that it could easily be found, along with anything else that might be generated. Upon completion, there was only one movie file in the folder. I opened and played it in Quicktime. It was perfect - slides looked good, narration was there, and the soundtrack was playing in the background.
This outcome appears to be your objective, so I'm not sure what I did differently than you, but from this experience, it works as should be expected.

You can only output from Apple TV to connected speakers or ones that are airplay capable. Connecting speakers to an Airport Express will make non-enabled speakers airplay compatible.
You can output from a Mac to multiple speakers using airplay.
