Export to .avi causes windows to dump QT pro

qt pro 7.1.3 XP sp 2:
ALWAYS dies if I try to export to .avi
Any ideas?

What compression are you attempting to use? Avi is a container so it can use any of numerous codecs to compress the content and the one you are using could be the problem. If you are not sure what codec is used then click on Options in the Export window and the Settings window should tell what compressor is in use.

  • FCP 5 export to .AVI for Windows client? Advice needed!

I have a Windows platform client that wants my Exported FCP 5 Sequence in .AVI format.
Obviously, I normally always use Export to Quicktime Movie in FCP, and I do know that their is not a direct choice in FCP to export/convert as an .AVI file. (I usually hand off the FCP file to another facility that does DVD Studio Pro authoring work, and haven't had a need to make different file formats).
This has made me to ponder of few bits of info, that I'm sure I could get great ansers to, here.
My normal "workaround" for making an .AVI for a Windows user is to Export as Quicktime Movie in FCP, like normal, and then open that exported file in Quicktime Pro, and use Export Movie to AVI in Quicktime Pro. Is this the best method? Secondly, I am a little unsure as to the best settings I should use in QT Pro to achieve this. For example:
I just did a routine NTSC 48k,16 bit stereo, 30 second ad in FCP, and my normal, Export to Quicktime Movie was about 260 meg in size for the finished, self-contained movie file.
I opened this in QT-Pro and ran Export to AVI. In the settings dialog, I chose "uncompressed" for video and 48k-16 bit stereo for audio. The resulting export was about 680 meg in size! Because of file size restrictions for the clients product, what settings change or choice should I be making in QT-Pro to get an "equivalent" of the 260 meg file the FCP is exporting? Should I not get an equal file size of the QT-Pro AVI versus the FCP export (both 260 meg?).
If the answer is compression, what is the best settings in QT-Pro? Cinepak? Intel Indeo?
Perhaps, I have always misunderstood what FCP Export to Movie is giving me, but I thought that was uncompressed video? If so, why do I get the 260 meg out of FCP, and then 680 meg from QT-Pro Export to AVI (uncompressed) for the same 30 second clip? Is it simply a data rate difference?
Lastly, I have actually had a Windows user take a FCP Export to Movie file, straight from me, and they say it opened fine in Windows Media Player as is for viewing. However, there is no (dot) file extension name on the end of the filename. They can simply click File/Open in Windows Media Player and choose the "unrecognized" file because of no extension, and play it just fine to at least view the clip.
So what exactly is the file type that FCP is creating? It's not a .MOV and not an AVI file. What would be the equivalent file type association (just for my curiosity).
Thanks for any help to the above as I value the more-experienced users here.
    Wade

    Hi Wade,
Sorry for letting your post unanswered for two days, we were all busy (I know, it is not an excuse).
Seriously, I think the reason you are not getting answers is you have asked too many questions in one post. Don't know about others, but I get slightly confused.
Let me tell you what I do with FCP material when I send it to our sound department where they work with Nuendo on PCs. I export sequence using QT Conversion. My settings are: Format - AVI, Compression type - DV-PAL, Compressor quality - Best. I do not bother much about the sound. I sent the resulting file over network to a Maxtor FireWire external drive connected to a colleague's PC and then take the drive down to the sound guys. If the AVI file is smaller than 2 GB I can burn it to a DVD and a PC can open it, if it is larger, PCs cannot open. Also, the sound guys ask me not to use Cinepac, they do not like it. Therefore, I use DV-PAL; I guess you may safely use DV-NTSC but it depends on who will open the AVI file. Ask your client what it wants.
I think my routine is a bit more streamlined than yours - I export straight from FCP and do not bother with QT. You are wrong in saying that there is no direct way in FCP to export AVI.
Hope this is a starter for more answers. Also, have you tried searching the forum? I am sure all the answers are already there.

  • No option to export as AVI?

    Hi,
I am having problems with AME CS6 - having upgraded from 5.5. Initially running AME CS6 was a nightmare and it hung on loading the QuickTimeEncoder - the best fix for which was reply 15 (Seth) here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4540908 - thank you so much.
Now, however, I have no option to export as AVI - I had to completely reinstall and then overcome a "not activated" issue to get more export options than just H264 and FLV - once I did that and got a more comprehensive export list, it still omits AVI - has it been dropped as a standard? I doubt it, but I am at a loss - any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks

Ah, I had not made that connection. I have known export options like wmv from my mac in the past, but have recently switched to AME. For backwards compatibility, where windows can export dv, mov etc which are mac compatible, I feel the same should have been true for mac! For my colleagues with windows machines locked down by admin control who cannot install any decent encoders, I need to export as mpeg1 (yes 1 of all things) or avi for powerpoint purposes! At a bit of a loss now what to do to get my .mov files out to windows users with a limited system - them changing their system is not an option!

  • Is there an "export as AVI" file size duration limit?

I would have thought this question had already been addressed, but my choice of key-words didn't find any recent discussions.
I created a 5-minute movie (iPhoto stills w/ Ken Burns effects). Saved as H.264 encoded QT movie at 768x576 size, but it will be shown on a PC, and I'm uncertain as to whether I'll find the most recent version of QT (or, ANY version) on the PC. I noticed iMovie HD has an AVI export option under the expert settings, so I tried exporting an AVI version. Compression time was only a fraction of the H.264 compression (big "plus" as I'll be doing one of these a week), and the quality was excellent... so, what's the "but"? No matter what option combinations I try, only the first 30 seconds of my movie are exported (which explains the short compression time).
Since the H.264 version is under 400 MB, there's room for a copy of the QT for Windows installer on the CD, so I just need to arrive early enough in case I need to install QT (I'll want to transfer the movie to the PC's hard drive anyway), but I'm curious to know whether there is a known reason for this limitation, or whether I'm missing something obvious.

QuickTime Pro doesn't export to Windows Media Player formats without additional software and expense.
I understand that, but when you're choosing an export option in iMovie (not explicitly in QT), one is not likely to make such an otherwise tangential association.
Can I infer (from your reference to QuickTime Pro) that the export to WMV option in iMovie would appear only when a QuickTime Pro license is present?

  • Export to avi with the same quality. How ?!

    Hello,
I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 to edit my video but i don't know how to export to avi file with the same quality...?!
In the previous version Premiere Pro CS3 i can export the video into avi with the same quality using Windows Media Video 9 Codec but in Premiere Pro CS5 i don't know how to do it...!!
    Best Regards,
    Q8Xbox

After you have downloaded and installed Lagarith and UT, reboot and just choose to Export to MS AVI, and then in the Compressor drop-down, choose the one that you want.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
I am agree with you Bill but how can we import these codecs into adobe premiere pro.Because it expects only .epr extension for importing presets. Is there any other way then let me know. Thanks in advance

  • Suddenly Media Encoder won't export to .avi from a Premiere Pro sequence

Came back to work today and out of the blue Media Encoder just won't export to .avi from a Premiere Pro sequence. Working with CS5 on Windows 7. That was the last thing I did yesterday before leaving work and it worked just fine, and it has always worked without any problems ever since I upgraded from CS4.
Here are the steps I always take: go to Export-->Media from the Premiere Pro sequence and the settings open up, I select Microsoft AVI - PAL DV, click the queue button, AME opens up but nothing loads, the queue remains empty and nothing happens.
I tried the same but selected MPEG-2 instead and it works that way.
I also tried opening the sequence directly from AME and it does it but it doesn't give me the option to export it to Microsoft AVI, it's just not on the list.
I deleted all preferences and old metadata options saved from all applications but that didn't help.
Didn't install any updates whatsoever that might have changed anything at all from yesterday till now.
If anyone knows what the problem might be and how to fix it, that will be truly appreciated, thanks in advance.

After a couple of hours going through the registry and every folder and file inside "Program Files--Adobe--Media Encoder CS5" and trying to find the problem, I did.
Thing is, the ExportAVI.prm plug-in file wasn't missing, it was there in the "Plug-ins--common" folder together with every other exporter and importer file, it just wasn't being loaded by AME for some reason. So i found a folder named "txt" and inside it there was a file named "AddExporterList.txt" which I opened and, as you could probably imagine from its pretty self-explanatory name, it contained a list of the exporter files that AME was supposed to load, and the AVI one wasn't on the list.
I wasn't sure wether it was best for me to edit that text file and add the AVI exporter to the list or just delete the damn thing, so i checked on an older PC with the CS4 suite installed in it and the "txt" folder didn't even exist, so I just deleted it and opened up AME again and it loaded every single exporter .prm file including the ExporterAVI.prm of course and it works just fine now, so that's a load off my shoulders, hope this might help someone else in the future.

  • Can't export 720p .AVI in Premiere CS6

I have a bunch of 720p videos that I'd like to export as .avi, but none of the codecs or presets availible allow for this. Am I doing something wrong? I'm using Premiere CS6 on a Windows 7 64-bit PC

Let's take a closer look at this.
When you say "AVI" do you mean the old NTSC or PAL AVI that was used with the original DV cameras? If so, that codec can't handle the larger 1280X720 frame as Ann pointed out.
Why do you want to export to AVI? Because you always did in the past? Or is there another reason that would help us help you?
Is it just that you want an archive? Something you can edit again? There are ways to do that. Lagarith creates a fairly large file. Is hard drive space an issue? If not, then Lagarith is fine. There are other, more compressed codecs that you may or may not find acceptable.
My camera, for example, records an all I-Frame file at 72Mb/s and if I want to back it up, I merely export to the same all I-Frame format at the same data rate.
    What does your camera record?
Once you tell us what the whole story is, we might be able to point you down the correct path.

  • Is microsoft avi the highest quality format to export an avi file in premiere pro cs4?

    Hello,
I exported an avi file in premiere pro cs4 in media encoder using Microsoft avi format but the quality turned out poor on dvd, what's the highest quality format I can use?
    Please help
    Thanks
    Elio

    Elio,
As has been stated, DV-AVI is not the format FOR a DVD-Video. However, it can be used (and often is) as a transport medium into a DVD authoring program, like Encore.
Can you please outline your workflow from PrPro to the final DVD, and is it a DVD-Video (will contain MPEG-2 material in VOB "containers"), or a DVD-Data, that is then played on a computer with something like Windows Media Player, VLC, MediaPlayer Classic HC, etc.?
Good luck, and please let us know exactly what you are doing, and the programs used.

  • Export DV AVI QT

I'm exporting different video in DV format in an avi file. It worked fine with QT 7.0.1
Since I've upgraded to QT 7.0.4 or 7.1.1 or 7.1.2 the video play jerkily. I don't have this problem if I export in mov files, but I need the avi file.
I have tested this on a G5 and a mac mini.
On the mac mini, if I want to reinstall the QT 7.0.1 with the reinstaller, my desktop disappear when I reboot the computer.
Does anyone know how to resolve this problem on QT posterior to QT 7.0.1 or how reinstall QT 7.0.1 on a mac mini.
    Regards.

    Hey Piero,
Thanks for the comments - I've actually been down that path, and it didn't appear to help.
HOWEVER, I'm pretty sure I've figured it out! - By default QT Pro will "export to AVI" using Cinepak compression - Change that to "DV/DVCPRO-NTSC or PAL" and the output is "palatable" to my Windows app
    Cheers,
    Ian

  • Exporting to AVI too large

I'm trying to convert a Flash file to .MOV, then take it into QuickTime Pro and export it as an .AVI file so it will play on a Windows PowerPoint file. The exported .MOV is under 2MB, but when I export the .AVI file it either hoses or grows to 280+MB. I'm not sure what compression option I need to use, but most of them seem to strip the quality a bunch. Are there any resources you can recommend that I can read up on about this? Once the file leaves Flash I'm pretty much clueless .. I need it to be clear and small if possible.

David's answer is on the mark but a bit more confusing than it has to be.
Flash files use "objects" or "elements" that are reused during playback. They need only be created once to be used over and over again. The format is also "vector" based which simply means that they also need only be created once and then scale (based on the video playback) to the size the author wishes to use.
So. A bush or a shrub can be used over and over again in the playback (changing size or shape) without adding to the total file size.
It is the entire reason for creating using the Flash format. One object, used dozens of times, doesn't make the file any larger in file size. These objects can also be used at different video ratios (for want of a better word) because they are "vector" based. They enlarge or diminish in size based on the authors control of the object. They can also have "actions" (the bounce of a ball, for example).
When you convert these vector formats to "video" you must convert each stage as a "frame". Each image (at 30 frames per second) adds to the total file size and is now "fixed" as a pixel (dot) in an image.
So. Your .swf export now becomes a very large file size and is "fixed" (no longer scales to the screen). Ugly and large.
It's not a fault of the export once you know why (and how) it happens.

  • QT 7.04: Export to AIFF causes Crash in all QT related apps

    This is similar to thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1635999
    Here is my scenario though:
When trying to export a group of clips ( 2 hrs in length)
    captured in iMovie 4.01,
to disc using the export to Mpeg-2 QT option, the audio doesn't fully export, it stops at the 55 minute mark, and
forgets the rest, although the file itself is the correct length ( the rest of where the audio is missed, is filled with blank space).
The capture itself is fine, and plays with audio to
the end of the two hour capture.
So I went back and tried just an export to AIFf using
iMovie to Quicktime Expert option, however, it causes
    iMovie to crash.
When I go into QT Pro 7.04, and try to "preset" the
Audio export options there, it casues it to crash.
If I try and do an export to Aiff from Final Cut Pro 4.5,
it causes Final Cut to crash.
I looked back over the recent three weeks before this, and the only things I have installed recently have been
    MpegStreamclip 1.7, and ffmpegx 0.0.9w.
I will try trashing the QT Prefs, as well as the prefs
for iMovie and FCP, but does anyone have any ideas?
I have aslo tried various other files, and if I try
to export AIFF, as long as i don't click the options,
it won't crash, but it won't complete either...

Hmm, I thought I had made it clear that the source originated
as a 2hour DV capture in iMovie?
When did QT abandon the Export to MPeg-2 feature?
    Had to be after 7.04?
I did not have this feature in 6.0, 6.52,
and began to use it on and off in QT 7.01 and 7.02,
    when I don't have the time/inclination to
setup a Batch and run it overnight in Compressor 1.2.1.
But we are digressing, because although that might
be a "fix" for the exporting to make compatible assets
for DVD Studio Pro, that still doesn't address
the issues with why just the audio drops out
(flatlines) after 55 minutes, or why exporting directly
to AIFF through QT causes every QT related app
    (iMovie, FCP) to crash?

I noticed the file "mswsock.dll" mentioned so I looked for issues with it. Apparently there are issues with malware and Firefox and that file. I have scanned and it found nothing, plus this issue has existed in three formats of my drive and windows re-installs (for other reasons, I didn't format and re-install just to make sure there was no malware) so I'm pretty sure there are no problems with malware.
I am running a Minecraft server and I have a static IP set up, but I've been doing this for three years without issues so I don't think that's the issue either.
I have tried disabling all plugins. Still crashes and crashes Windows with it.
I have run Memtest86+ and the windows memory tester. Not a memory issue.

Like I said before, sorry if this is vague. Let me know if you need more info and hopefully I'll be less impatient with this site then.
I'm running Windows 8.1 64 bit. My full specs are here: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/FfJxFT (I've upgraded to Windows 8 and replaced the dead hard drive now. My new drives are a 120Gb Samsung 840 EVO and a 1TB Seagate Barracuda).
    Thanks.

  • Intel processor bug causes Windows 2008r2 guest to blue screen

We recently purchased several B200-M3 blades with E5-2680v2 processors.  Our UCS infrastructure and blade firmware is at 2.2(1d).  ESXi hosts are at 5.5u1.
From my reading of the Release Notes, this makes the new blades vulnerable to Caveat CSCuo30572 which is a bug in the v2 processors that can cause Windows 2008R2 guests to blue screen.
VMware KB2073791 also deals with this bug
    The Intel Erratum is C135
Updating the firmware (2.2(1d) probably to fixed version 2.2(3d)) is a relatively long process in our environment.
Has anyone experienced this bug?  Do the guests blue screen at any particular time; e.g. when booting?  Are Windows 2012 guests impacted?  One of our new v2 blades was running Windows 2008R2 guests for about a week without any known problem.  It has since been taken out of production.
The Release Notes (2.2) description for CSCuo30572 is:  "Intel v2 processors no longer cause PSOD with Microsoft Windows 2008 R2 VM guests."  Should the PSOD (ESXi crash) actually be BSOD (Microsoft crash)?  Or can ESXi purple screens be caused also, crashing the entire host?
The Release Notes also indicate that the Caveat is resolved in release 2.2(2c)A.  Does the A indicate that an Infrastructure update is all that is needed?  That does not seem like it would supply the fixed microcode to the processors via BIOS.
I'm basically looking for some insight before proceeding with another FW update.  Thank you.

Yes, it refers to Infrastructure (UCS Manager, FI and IOM). You could just upgrade the infrastructure to 2.2.3d and leave your Servers at 2.2.1d
