Export to Compressor or Export to Quicktime then into Compressor

Hi,
Already for a long I am wondering whether it would make a significant difference when you export video directly to compressor from FCP or indirectly via Quicktime to Compressor. If you have any experience regarding this, please let me no know.
Thank you

The main difference is that using the Export Using Compressor method, Compressor will look at the original format & framerate of each clip in your sequence and will render out based upon that. So if you have some higher quality clips in your sequence, Compressor will take that into consideration when producing the final encode. It could actually give you a slightly better quality picture.
If you were to export a movie first, then run that through Compressor, Compressor only sees the one file and one format.
MacBreak weekly produced a small episode that explains how Compressor works in this manner. It should answer your question.

  • Keynote exporting to quicktime

When quicktime video is embedded on a slide and entire project is exported to quicktime the exported video plays almost all the way through then freezes for a long time. The transition finally plays(the time for this is also pushed back as much as a minute)and then the next video clip plays, freezes and then plays. Ive checked all the inspektor settings and the original video clips. Any idea how to fix

This version doesn't have the recording function --- http://grab.by/3QBb
Thus I cannot do that work around ... anyone got any assistance on offer ?
Should I just give up and save it as a presentation not try to export to Quicktime (make into a movie)

  • Why CS5 export to QuickTime request connection to internet?

why CS5 export to QuickTime request connection to internet?
When I'm not connect to internet and I try to export to QuickTime then CS5 tell me of to check if QuickTime's installed, but if I'm connect to internet the export work fine ... why?
and do exist a mode for by pass this?
    thanks

FWIW, I know the work around, export to iTUNES, drag to desktop (if preferences are set up right, in iTUNES) it will be a AIFF file.
Just want to know why quicktime is greyed out unless of course it needs video or images in order to work as export to quicktime!
    thanks!

  • Difference between Export as Quicktime and Export as Quicktime Conversion

If the desired end result is a Quicktime file, compressed with the default h.264 "for broadband" preset, should there be any difference between:
    1) exporting a sequence with "Export as Quicktime", then opening up that file in Quicktime Pro and compressing it with the preset.
    or
    2) exporting the sequence with "Export as Quicktime conversion" with the preset.
I had expected these to be equivalent, but I've found that method #2 gives me dramatically sharper text in titles. Can anyone explain why? I'm using FCE 4.

Well I reckon it's because you are crunching numbers twice, in #2 it's once.
Despite digital transfers being said to Lossless, I call it Lessloss.

  • Keynote 06 - Exporting to Quicktime

Okay, so I know how to export keeping the audio intact.
My main problem is keeping all the timings I've created intact as I don't have ANYTHING happening "on click" in my presentation. It is all timed and I'm finding the delay between slides is too long (when one "ends" and the other "begins").
    Thus my question:
Using Keynote 06 ... how do I export into Quicktime KEEPING all my timings intact ?

  • Compressor vs. Export Using Quicktime

Hi, all. I need to export a movie from FCP as a Quicktime movie for web streaming. Should I Export "Using Compressor" or the "Using Quicktime Conversion?" I can't find a reason to use one over the other in all the Apple documentation. So what is the difference between the two? Why use one or the other? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i use the "export to quicktime movie" if i'm going to recompress to many different formats. i.e. i export the full quality version and then run that through compressor to create hd, sd, web, and dvd versions for viewing.
exporting straight to compressor is useful when exporting a lot of sequences to web etc...

    Hi Barbara
Are your photos in iPhoto or are you using some other Photo Software?
The latest version of iPhoto is a lot different than iPhoto 6 for example. In iPhoto 06 you could burn the Originals from your User Picture Folder using Finder, while in iPhoto 11 it is best to burn them from within the iPhoto Application.
Open iPhoto and select the Event(s) that you want to burn onto the CD, then select Share on the menu bar and click Burn in the drop down.

Then again, maybe you got a bad batch of blank CD's and need to try another?

Try Mixing Down the audio before export.

  • Export as quicktime vs compressor?

need to export a couple sequences. they are apple prores hq 720p. want to export w/ same settings as sequence. other than batching, is there any advantage to using compressor as opposed to export as quicktime movie from fcp? seems to take a lot longer using compressor. thanks.

"Seems to take longer" may not be correct if you let it run all the way to completion.
The advantages are numerous if you understand how to use Compressor's advanced functions including frame settings and distributed encoding. If you don't need them, don't use Compressor.

  • Re user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? - I've followed instructions so far so good, until I get to "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?

Re AppleMan 1958 excellent user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? -
I've followed instructions with success until  "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?
I installed MGEG Streamclip 193b8 and used their utility to install quicktimempeg2 and got a message stating it was successfully installed.  (I'm on latest Maverick 10.9.2 on iMac)  Then I dragged the VIDEO_TS file from my home DVD into the streamclip app.  It asked which of 4 files to use, and I selected the first one.  Streamclip played the video with the sound.  so far so good. but now I cannot figure how to use quicktime player 10.3 to export this vob file out of streamclip.

Thank you for your quick reply and for clearing up my confusion.  I'm exporting the first section now.  I choose the smallest size, 3x4 but I'd prefer to go higher as this DVD was originally a VHS home movie.  I'm wondering if after three conversions (VHS,->DVD->MPEG) the resolution will be so poor as to not support a larger size frame?  If it can, what size should I select when I export?

  • Recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion then Mavericks. I have Final Cut Express and when I export to Quicktime, and open to play the movie, Quicktime starts to "convert" it? What is this about????

Recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion then Mavericks. I have Final Cut Express and when I export to Quicktime, and open to play the movie, Quicktime starts to "convert" it? What is this about????

My existing movies are all the following types straight from FinalCut
    Apple Intermediate Codec, 1920 × 1080, Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo, 48.000 kHz
This particular movie is 6.66 Gb
The new Quicktime player in OS Mavericks converts these to the following format:
    Apple ProRes 422, 1920 x 1080
Linear PCM, 16 bit little-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz
And a movie size of 6.48 Gb
Please, please can someone tell me why?

  • Keynote with embedded .mov exported to Quicktime and then WMV (Flip4Mac)

    Hi,
I have a Keynote with an embedded .mov file (video and audio) half way through which exports to Quicktime fine ("Keynote .mov").
When I use Flip4Mac to convert the Keynote .mov to WMV the resulting WMV file works fine but stops when the audio of the Keynote .mov stops i.e. Flip4Mac doesn't render the last of the Keynote .mov
I have sought help over at Flip4Mac tech support forum but thought someone here might know the answer.
I have tried a variety of different .mov files in my Keynote but the same in all cases: export to QT is fine but Flip4Mac stops converting the Keynote .mov at the end of any audio.
I can extract the audio track and Flip4Mac will convert the Keynote .mov (video) all the way through.
    Help?

what format are the movies you placed on your slides? This makes a big difference in if they get included in the exported QT movie.

  • 16:9 Exported to Quicktime Becomes 4:3

How do you preserve 16:9 aspect ratio in exporting a FCP sequence to Quicktime?
    File>Export>Using Quicktime Conversion>and then I typically select Broadband-Medium or Streaming-Medium (I think that's 15fps). And eventhough I check Preserve Aspect Ratio, I still get a 4:3 square with 16:9 squeezed video.

    Greetings,
    I was in a similar situation as this fellow editor;
Most of my footage is 4:3, however I show it on plasmas that are 16:9 and some DVD players simply stretch my image. Can compressor fix this problem? I imported a 4:3 sequence into compressor and I want compressor to export it to a 16:9 format with pillarboxes. How do I do this? Thank you.
    And your response was;
    Hi,
select your encoding preset (i.e. DVD best quality 90 minutes) in settings window, drag it onto your video. Highlight/select the video to activate the inspector window info and tools. As you know in inspector you can click on 6 buttons to view/change settings (i.e. encoder, frame controls etc.) click on geometry.
Now in Crop to: select 16:9 and in padding select 16:9 but in the boxes below change top and bottom to 0 and left and right to 72.
Submit the encoding and once that's done import your MPEG2 as asset in DVSstudio, drag it on the track frame in the graphical window, single click it and in the track window (lower right side of the screen) select 16:9 as display mode. You should now have your 4:3 movie in a 16:9 ratio with pillarboxes.
    G.
I followed your advice and after bringing into DVD studio pro, the only format I could export to was a video stream mpeg that doesn't open up for me. I want to export it as a mov file to import back into my final cut project. Is it possible to export a 16:9 format out of compressor as a mov file.
I am trying to see what would be the best road for me to go down.
I spent five years doing a documentary and half of the footage was shot 16:9, the other half 4:3. I like the 16:9 look and want to eventually try to convert all the 4:3 to 16:9.
    what are your thoughts,
    Thank you very much,
    Julian

  • After exporting to quicktime file, the file has sound but no video, what am I doing wrong?

after exporting to quicktime file, the file has sound but no video, what am I doing wrong?  The self contained movie box is not checked.

    Hi
Did You go via Compressor ?
Did You use QuickTime Conversion ?
    I don't
    I do
    • In TimeLine set In and Out-Points to the full Movie/Project
    • Select ALL - Clips and Audio
    • Go up to Sequence and down to Render Only - down to Mix Down Audio
    • then Sequense and Render Selected - Both (Video and Audio)
    • then Export and as QuickTime .mov (NOTHING ELSE)
    • I use to do - Not Self-Contained as it saves both time and space
Your Start-Up (Mac OS) Hard Disk - Needs lot's of free space to work OK - I never go under 25Gb free space on this one,
Good Luck - Yours Bengt W
