Export to Folder as Collection Hierarchy

Currently it is impossible to use the collection Hierarchy as the "folder structure" for the export.
Maybe Adobe can consider adding in the Export Location section a new option like 'Put in Subfolder' called 'Put in Current Collection Folder' which will export the images to folders named after the collection hierarchy or have a parameter that can be used which will bring back the collection hierarchy as the folder.
I would appreciate if Adobe can kindly comment on this or consider creating a function to check the collection set\collection associated with an image.

I completely agree. Not having the ability to export or save to the same collection you are working on is a huge oversight.

  • Export: Maintain Folder Hierarchy -

it would be very useful if lightroom could export a group of images maintaining the existing folder hierarchy, instead of dumping them all into one folder -
as in, i import my images into lightroom, sort the images into subfolders, put them through develop (or not), then when choosing export i have an option to create a new folder containing the exported images arranged in the same folder structure as in lightroom
(then i upload these images to a php gallery system that creates thumbs, gallery page, etc)
it would be great if i didn't have to re-organize the exported images after exporting...

Going with Jeff's one feature, don't mix it rule:
The ability to export our collection and folder hierarchy would be a very useful tool. It would allows users to create final output copies of our images in what their normal relational folder location. A bank of collections that contain the output from a job may contain numerous collections of virtual copies of Colour/B&W/Sepia/bordered images to go for proofing to clients. The client could peruse these by type and make decisions based on these. It is especially useful in the case of burning out our exports to create a usable hierarchy on the disk. Otherwise Lightroom can only be used to export all images to one folder, or used to export individual collections, that must then be hand sorted into our hierarchy and burned from an external application. As Lightroom is designed to speed our workflow, this would be a very useful addition to the toolset.

  • How do I include an image's collection hierarchy in its name when exported?

    Hi,
Newbie question - I organize selected images using hierarchies of collections. When I export the images in those collections, I'd like to include the entire collection hierarchy of each image in its exported name.
For example, if I have a collection hierarchy like the following:
    CollectionSet1
         +CollectionSet2
              +CollectionA
                   Image1
                   Image2
              +CollectionB
                   Image1
                   Image2
         +CollectionSet3
              +CollectionA
                   Image1
                   Image2
              +CollectionB
                   Image1
                   Image2
And I export the images from CollectionSet2, I'd like the images to have the following names:
         CollectionSet1_CollectionSet2_CollectionA_Image1.jpg
         CollectionSet1_CollectionSet2_CollectionA_Image2.jpg
         CollectionSet1_CollectionSet2_CollectionB_Image1.jpg
         CollectionSet1_CollectionSet2_CollectionB_Image2.jpg
Is this possible? Or is there a better way (I'm assuming there is ) to structure my images to enable this type of filenaming?
Also, which is a recommended book regarding in-depth discussion of cataloging and exporting techniques?

Unfortunately not. At least not natively for sure. And i haven't heard of any plugins to do that.

If you mean digital asset management as a whole, then The DAM Book is the undisputable number one. it si not specific to Lightroom, but the fresh 2nd edition has some Lightroom stuff too.

Splitting a library does not remove the folder I moved from the original library.  I exported a folder of 3000 images from the original library to a new library.  The new libraryb was created alright, but the folder and the 3000 images remain in the original library.  Why? Exporting a library will  create a duplicate of the exported library items. Usually you do this to work on a partial library on another computer and later merge the changed images back. Splitting the library is not the primary purpose of exporting.
If you want to remove the library items that you exported, select them in the source list of the library inspector and delete them (File > Delete Original Images and all Versions).  Then empty the Aperture Trash, after checking that you did not trash more than you wanted.
But check, if the backup of your Aperture library is in working condition, and check the exported library carefully, before you do such a massive delete.

  • Copy Folder with Joins. Export/Import Folder with joins. In EUL.

Ok, I've got a custom folder which has been made up by dragging items from 2 or 3 other folders into it.
It then has some joins of it's own, quite a few.
When trying to create a workbook from it, it takes 9 mins to run a query.
I need to work out what is slowing it down. If I create the same workbook against the folder which has the majority of the items in the custom folder, it runs instantly.
So I suspect it is one of the joins causing it.
My plan was to duplicate the folder, then remove joins until I find out which one is causing it.
However, if I cut n paste the folder, I get a copy without the joins.
If I export the folder and import it I get a copy without the joins.
Question then - how can I get a copy of a folder WITH the joins ?
I'm slightly concerned that when I export my EUL from the dev database and import it into the live database that I'm not going to get any joins since the export and import into the dev database is not retaining the joins.
    Anyone ?

    Hi,
The preferences for Disco Plus are set in the pref.txt file on the apps server and for Disco Desktop in the Windows Registry. I think the defaults are set on so unless you have changed them this is unlikely to help.
I think I read somewhere that the 11g optimiser will remove unused outer joins or where there is a foreign key constraint. I may have made that last bit up as I cannot find a reference to it, but it may be worth exploring.
To speed things up you could look at why this join is slowing things down. It could be that you need an index on the join column.
The join actually is used, in that it has to check in the other table that a record exists. This is why Discoverer cannot remove the join from the complex folder query. If it did and there where no matching records in the other table then you would get a different result.

  • Deleting The History Folder In Collections

    Hi
I had Safari all personalised but it crashed recently.
When I restarted it, in the Collections column the History folder had re-appeared. I had deleted it somehow previously but can't remember how.
I know how to delete bookmarks and folders etc. but I can't get rid of the History folder in Collections (it's the one with a clock icon).
Can anybody help please? I've tried Preferences and different key combinations but for the life of me I can't get shot of it.
    Thanks

    Hello
Thanks for your reply. I see that it is a default Collection but wonder how I managed to delete it previously?
If you're suggesting it's not possible then I wonder how I screwed it up the last time.
I don't particularly want a new plist as such it's just that I never use it so thought it could be deleted.
    Thanks anyway

  • Create new Collection by simply dragging a "Folder" into "Collections"

Ability to create new Collection by simply dragging a "Folder" into "Collections". Currently the collection name has to be created manually and files dragged into it.
Note: Collections are important because this is the only way you can have "virtual copies" separated into different folders. For example I wanted to have set of virtual B&W images in its own folder (and the original color images in a different folder). You could only do this in "Collections". "Folders" does not allow you to separate a virtual copy from its original (because the virt copy is not really a file).
    Joe

Thanks Sean, Good analogy! I'll have to give your method a try.
However, I'm finding that in LR1.0 I'll probably need to create a "Collection" of almost all my "Folders" (past and future) because of the ability to have virtual copies separated into sub collections. To do so, even in the way you describe, seems to require too much typing. It would be nice to be able to simply drag folders (which I've already gone to the trouble of naming) into a Collection and have it keep the name. In Beta 4 you only had "Shoots" to deal with, hence it wasn't an issue. Now you have "Folders" and "Collections". That in itself is a little confusing; but I understand why it was done (i.e. the "why no folders?" complaints of beta testers).
Speaking of not liking to type; I've already typed too much here... : )

  • Exporting a folder using iOS

How can I export a folder using iOS?

    Jim Bridger wrote:
Not sure how I can tell if the Library is OK? Library being exported originates on the laptops HD. I export it to an external HD. The Images in the original Library are managed but when I export I select the option to export Previews with the catalog. I then copy the original images over to my main Drobo then reconnect them to the Aperture Library. Both systems are running the most up to date Aperture and Mac OSX software. Thanks for your interest to help.
OK lest see if I got this straight.
The original library is on the laptops internal HD. You connect an external HD to the laptop and export to this external HD connected to the laptop. So at this point you could open that library with Aperture on the laptop.
Images in the original Library are managed but when I export I select the option to export Previews with the catalog. I then copy the original images over to my main Drobo then reconnect them to the Aperture Library.
OK this bit is a got me confused. So the images on the laptop are managed. So then the images in the exported library are also managed, no? But then you say you are copying images to the Drobo and reconnecting them to Aperture.  Could you explain this in more detail.
Another thing you can try is to plug in the external HD to your main computer and open the Aperture library from it before you do anything with the Drobo.
BTW it's not the library that is on the Drobo correct, only images?

  • Quick Path to folder or collection

I find myself frustrated when try to move photos to another folder or collection thats out of view because the lack of screen real estate.
I know there is way to make a quick collection with B but is there a way to make a target folder or collection?
If not I would love to see an alternate ( maybe floater dock) of the "Hot" folders I need to work with. This way I could move item to specific ones with out having to drag hold scroll till the proper folder or collection appears.

Right click any collection and select the option to make it the target connection for B.
You don't have to drag to move.  Select your images, got to the folder in question (without selecting it) and right-click and hit Move Selected Photos to this Folder.

  • Nexus 1010 can not erase export-import folder

    Hi Expert,
After we import the backup vsb. We try to erase the export-import folder. But system show "Device or resource busy". So we can not execute more export or import command. Please reference the below image and help us to fix this issue.
Ps. The Nexus 1010 version is "4.2.1.SP1.4"

    Hello Meng,
I was able to recreate this problem in the lab.  It appears it only occurs when importing a secondary VSB.  A 'system switchover' of the N1010s frees the NFS locks.  Not an ideal workaround, but a workaround.
CSCtz44247 has been opened for this problem.
