Export to PDF changes colors to a darker shade

I have an annoying problem with both Keynote and Pages: when exporting to PDF, the colors become darker than they appear on screen and on the printer.
I've tried various things to improve the situation, but to no avail:
1. tried using different color profiles for the colors;
2. tried printing to PDF (instead of exporting).
The problem seems to arise from the fact that I have a bitmap image on the page. Before I put the bitmap image on, the export is perfectly fine. Then when I add the bitmap and export again, the colors are wrong.
I've uploaded the Pages files and the PDF exports here:

Suggestions are highly anticipated!

I'm not at my Mac right now, so I cannot check, but I'm surprised you get the rectangle around the shadow. I thought that was fixed. Someone else may have the shadow story clearer.
Bug reports are made at http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/ , but it may be enough if you just enter the observation on the Pages feedback page at http://www.apple.com/feedback/pages.html .
You also have the option to play with your own color profiles in ColorSync Utility. It is not straightforward, but it is interesting to see what flexibility MacOS X gives us.
CS2 is Adobe Creative Suite. It includes Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop and so on. It is much better at following industry standards than Pages, but it is not as easy to use. And it costs more than ten times as much.

  • Export to PDF changes colors

I have a longstanding problem that I hoped would have been fixed but has not. I had this in prior versions of Keynote and in prior OS's. I am now using Leopard and Keynote in iWork 08. All software is latest version.
I use a bright green font and various other bright colors in keynote. When I export to PDF many (not all) of the colors are noticeably muted and washed out. It is particularly noticeable in the bright green (called "spring" in the crayon pallete in keynote). Other colors change tint substantially.
The overall effect is to go from a vibrant presentation to something that looks very dull. I am referring here to colors as they appear on the screen (printing is a whole other issue). If I put the PDF version next to the keynote version on my large Apple LCD display, they look completely different.
This is not just a subtle effect. It is very noticeable color change.
Today I gave a presentation using Acrobat Connect and noticed the screen capture seemed to also have a color problem, and the presentation appeared on the remote screen with the same color changes as if it had been turned into PDF.
Presumably there is something very different about the way Apple and Adobe handle colors. Is there some setting I need to adjust or is this a bug? It seems like a pretty big issue to me.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

As pdfs are normaly calibrated for printig, they mostly use CMYK. CMYK cannot show all colors you monitor can do, especially deep greens or blues. But they look the same when printed, so if you change the calibration of the pdf to some RGB profile, it may look like in keynote, but not anymore the same when printed.
Good theory, but I think it is wrong. When Mac OS X produced PDF files, it keeps the colour space of the original pictures. CMYK stays CMYK and RGB stays RGB. (You can see this using preflight in Adobe Acrobat, if you have that application.) The important thing is that the file, regardless of colour space, should have a good colour profile, and Mac OS X does it best to do that too.
But apart from that, I have no idea what could be wrong in the case described above.

  • InDesign export to PDF Print color issues

    Hey there,
I'm working on a document in InDesign, have been for many hours now.  So far whenever exporting to PDF print there have been no problems.  Now all of a sudden, if I change a color in the InDesign file and export to PDF, nothing actually changes on the PDF anymore.
Any idea what's going on? Did I accidentally change a setting or something?
Example:  Say I have a shape that's Black. I export it, it's black.  Now, I go into the document and change the shape color to Yellow, export it; still black.
    Regards,
    SL

Chrome's built-in PDF browser does not even begin to conform to the PDF specification. It might be fine to read PDF files from the simplest of Word documents, but not output from any graphic arts source.
(The same is true for Apple's Preview application under MacOS and their PDF viewer under iOS!)

  • Exporting to PDF Issues (color)

I have a series of INDD CS6 files I'm exporting to PDF.  Each file includes an identical linked image (our corporate logo).  When exporting, all files export perfectly except for one.  On that one, everything is exporting to color except the logo, which is gray scale.
As mentioned, the original linked image is identical.  PDF exporting set-up is identical.
    I'm baffled.

could be some minor file corruption--try this--make a 'new' document (same size) - then in questionable document--select all--then copy/paste in place in new document--then try exporting again

  • Export to PDF - Change Font size

    Hello everybody,
We were exporting reports to PDF file using te "Export to PDF" option in WAD. We recently have updated the BI environment with the SP17 patch. After the patch, the font size of the reports in the export PDF file has become very small and hence not clear.
Is there a place where we can adjust the font size of the Texts seen in the "Exported PDF reports"?
Please help me with your Knowledge and Experience,
    Shameem

    Hi Rane,
Thank you for your input. I am aware that we can zoom the document and see the content. However when we print the report, the reports are not as clear as it was before SP17 installation. Thats the problem.

  • PDF changes color in PowerPoint

    Hi all,
I created an image (used color transparency for some parts) in Illustrator CC 2014. I saved the image as a pdf. and then inserted it in my PowerPoint presentation. Once I save the powerpoint and reopen it, pdf images that I inserted have a black background. Please, let me know how to deal with this issue. Thank you in advance!!!
    Katya

    Hi katya2385,
Are you still facing this issue?
As you said once you convert the pdf to image and then import that image to PowerPoint presentation the color of the image changes next time you open.
You may try to check the file which you have converted to image without looking that in powerpoint check that file individually.

  • Will saving an eps file as a pdf change color output?  Digital printing.

Hello, I recently sent in a reprint order of a client's package label file, and the color output is quite different.   The first times I ordered these labels, I sent in an eps file.  At the printer's request, I submitted the file as a pdf this time.  I can't see any differences bewteen the eps and pdf  files.   They're both RGB, the color values are sttill the same in the file.   Should the file type change result in such a different output?  Thanks for any advice...

Switching from a RGB color mode to CMYK gives the same colors on Screen? Since the CMYK is a subset of the colors available in RGB this is not usually the case.

  • Word to pdf changes colors

All three of my coworkers and I have a problem with our colors when we save a Word document as a PDF. The greens come out hatched or yellow, as with other colors. We have all recently been upgraded to Windows 7, but I don't know if that's the reason behind it. Any help is appreciated. It wastes a lot of time trying to find a color that will not change when we save. Thanks

I am using Word 2007 to create the document, and am printing to Adobe Acrobat 9. My default settings are set at standard (Converts all colors to RGB), and I cannot put Acrobat PDF as my default printer because I do need the other actual printer as the default (I print much more often than I print to pdf).
Once I create the doc in Word, I go to file--print--select Adobe PDF as the printer (Adobe PDF Converter) and then choose where to save it. When the new pdf comes up, the colors are messed up.

  • Export to PDF changing font size

    Hi,
I have gone through the posts on this topic and was wondering if anyone has a formula to predict what will happen to the text or what looks best in PDF?
I am using Arial 10,11 and 12 on some reports and Times New Roman 8, 9, 10 and 11 on others.
The worst effect is that all reports have a group of text boxes on the top right hand corner which have borders.
The reports are basically text documents so have lots of word wrapped text.  In CR these paragraphs are close to the right hand edge in line with the text boxes at the top.
In PDF the right hand edge of the paragraph moves in by 3-4cms.  Setting the paragraph to Justify rather than left Justify keeps it at the right, but has lots of white space which looks bad.
    regards
    ps

    Try with this:
    To resolve the behavior
Set the resolution of the default printer of the local computer experiencing the issue to 1200 DPI. Most printers have a default setting of 600 DPI.
Create two registry keys to prevent the crxf_pdf.dll from decreasing in font size.
Click Start > Run. Type "regedit". The Registry Editor appears.
Create the following keys for Crystal Reports XI with the defined values:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
    Type: DWORD
    Recognized Values: 0,1
    Default Value: 1
    Creation Method: manual
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.0\Crystal Reports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
    Type: DWORD
    Recognized Values: 0,1
    Default Value: 1
    Creation Method: manual
Set both registry key values to 1 to turn them on.
Create the following keys for Crystal Reports XI Release 2 with the defined values:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal Reports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
    Type: DWORD
    Recognized Values: 0,1
    Default Value: 1
    Creation Method: manual
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Business Objects\Suite 11.5\Crystal eports\Export\PDF\ForceLargerFonts
    Type: DWORD
    Recognized Values: 0,1
    Default Value: 1
    Creation Method: manual
Set both registry key values to 1 to turn them on.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Exporting to pdf changes the resolution

    Good day,
I have a document 800px wide in InDesign. When I export it to .pdf and set to 100% zoom it's way more than 800px. The exported .PDF at 100% zoom takes about 1200px instead of 800px and looks awful!! If I export it to .JPG it will export correctly and be 800px at 100% zoom.
Please help, this is really annoying, just want the pdf look like it supposed to look, I tried everything I knew.
    Thanks

Ok. If the page size in ID is the same size in the PDF, there is not an issue. Really, no issue.
Perhaps you are accustomed to working in pixels in an image editing application. An image editing application, based as they are in pixels (no matter the units used to set the page up with few exceptions), is not the same as ID, which is a page layout application and does not think in pixels as noted above.
If your page is 8.5" in width as I think it is, then the PDF will be 8.5" in width. That is all that is really necessary to understand (not that ID thinks in inches, either per se).
In general, one would not use ID to create images for the web (pixel units) or for an image editing application (with exceptions I suppose). One would use the image editing application to compose images to be placed into ID for various publishing output intents.

  • Export to PDF change default "Save As" file name

    Hello,
I have an asp.net application where I use a CrystalReportViewer. The user runs the report via the application.  They then click on on the the Export button in the viewer with PDF as the format.  This launches the PDF file.  When I click the Save icon, the Save As dialog box comes up.  The default name in this window is the name of the .aspx file.  I want to be able to specify what this file name should be instead of it defaulting to the name of the asp page in which the report was launched.
I do not want to recreate the Export button, I am trying to find a way to do this with existing crystal functionality.  Can anyone please help??  Thank you!!

    Hi there,
I believe I may have found the solution!
You will need to set your CrystalReportViewer.ID property to what you need your filename to be.
    In my example:
    CrystalReportViewer.ID = "NewPDFFileNamehere";
The .PDF file extension will be added automatically!
Just note, you need to set the above property ASAP in code - meaning - It should be the first thing you do before having any other code attached, read into or from CrystalReportViewer.
    Hope it helps!

  • Export to PDF vs. printing

In my file I am going to set it up for both online PDF usage and as a printable book.  Here are the questions and I am using CS4.
In my InDesign file I am using a blue color to denote an internal link, i.e.: My link to My link text anchor.  This is for the PDF.
Meanwhile, if I go to print the book I do not want the internal links to show in color.
It would also be nice if when the online PDF is printed if the blue colors would revert to the standard black.
For the destination on page 13 I used a text anchor destination.  Meanwhile on page 4 I used a source.  Can I have them linkable forward and backward?  How would I go about accomplising that?
Taking this further, I plan on having different files, Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc.  What is the routine for having a link in one file point to a link in another file?  My experience has taught me that it is better to have books split up into different chapters.
    Can all this be done?
    Cordially,
    A. Wayne Webb

Lets start with the chapters. I can't say about hyperlinks, but inter-file cross-refernces, which are quite similar are very prone to breakage, so the standard advice is to keep the whole book in one file if you need to use cross-references. For safety, save often, and save backup versions.
If you use a SPOT color for your link colors you can use the Ink Manager to alias it to Black (or any other color). This means you can export one PDF in color for the web, and then export a second PDF for print, which you'll want to do anyway since print requires higher resolution, and during the export you can go to the Ink Manager and change your spot blue to black.
You cannot specify that colored text in the PDF will print as black, but your users probably can. Most printer drivers have a "Text as Black" option and Acrobat and Reader have a Print Color As Black option, but that's global, not just text.
Since I don't use hyperlinks in my work at all, and seldom use cross-refs, I'll leave your forward/backward link question for someone else.

  • Strange color change in graphic when ID file exported to pdf  ID CS3

I open a pdf of some special graphic or scientific equation in Photoshop, put it into grayscale, discard layers, and save as a Tiff. I then import it into a two-color InDesign document. With the selection tool, I choose a swatch of one of the two colors in the document at 10% tint, to be a background color (where there is no content in the Tiff). With the direct selection tool I then choose from the swatches the other color of the two-color document for the actual content of the graphic (text, drawing, etc.). On-screen this looks exactly as it should. However, when I export the InDesign file as a pdf, the color of the background of the graphic is a 10% tint of the second color, not the first color. I have tried redoing the graphic in Photoshop in different ways, but no matter what I do the export to pdf from InDesign changes the color of the background of the graphic to the other color. How can I fix this problem? I am on a new MacBook, 2.4 GHz Intel core 2 Duo; 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory; OSX 10.5.6.

I previously posted this issue in InDesign forum, where I was said that it seems to be Acrobat issue. Therefore I am posting here.

Well this is the Reader forum. You cannot check colors using Reader. Are you using Acrobat? If so, you will want to ask in the Acrobat forum for your OS. Good luck.

  • Font color changes when I export to pdf

I'm using Pages 08 still, and I'm creating newsletters, should be simple enough.  But when I export to pdf, there are portions of the text that change color.  For example, I have white text and a brown background, and for some reason the text changes to black.  The Pages document still shows it as white, it only happens with the exported pdf document.  I triend deleting the brown background layer, re-exported, but the font color still changes.  Thoughts?

You have not said what version of Pages '08 you are using nor what version of OSX.
For problems like these usually simply updating both Pages '08 and the version of OSX to the latest versions, fixes the problem. That does not mean upgrading to Pages '09 or OSX 10.8.2, just the latest of those you have installed.
Failing that you need to look at what color model your text is. Stick to the cmyk that OSX's pdfs use and avoid rgb which is screen color.
