Export to pdf fonts in acrobat on windows

I am all excited to create a newsletter for a club I belong to. I decided to use Pages on my new macbook air. I've spent about 10 hours or so creating my newsletter and I decided to test it out. So I exported it as a pdf and emailed it to myself to open on my windows 7 pc. Lo and behold the fonts are all squished up and crooked.
This seems like a major flaw. I expect anything that I export to pdf to render exactly the same on any other computer. Apparently this is not the case.
I know that when I use Word and export to a PDF it renders the same on any Mac or PC. However, Pages does not.
Does anyone have a work around or know any way to fix this?
I'm just using one of the standard Pages templates, nothing fancy.

Like other apps delivered by Apple, Pages is supposed to embed the fonts in the PDF which it deliver.
If it doesn't we can't change the behavior.
In such case it's important to send a feedback to Apple thru the dedicated channel :
Go to "Provide Pages Feedback" in the "Pages" menu , describe what you wish.
Then, cross your fingers, and wait at least for iWork'11 or 12 ;-)
I guess that they killed the process during one of the six updates delivered since january 2009.

  • When exporting to PDF fonts are replaced

    I have had this happen several times when exporting to PDF from CS6 with no font errors, all the fonts have been changed in the PDF to another font. Not the default either, but just a different font altogether.
    Has anyone heard of this or experienced this?

    It is pretty easy to determine the fonts are wrong by visual inspection followed by the text edit tool in Acrobat X to confirm what font it is. The original fonts on this particular file were Gotham and they were replaced by Helvetica and our default missing font is Courier. I have found numerous threads with the same or similar problem dating back to September 2014 where they were blaming Indesign CC for the problem, with another person replying they had the same issue with CS6. Some of the advice given to them was to load the fonts locally rather than across a network to a server. The problem is not repeatable that is to say when you notice the issue with your PDF you open the file and export it again and the fonts are now correct with no changes to the file or the way you loaded the fonts. What is alarming is this is intermittent with no font warning while exporting or any further font warnings if the PDF is Normalized through Kodak Prinergy. It is like the postscript code is being written with a replacement font.
    I have enclosed the thread I found and we are going to load fonts locally to see if this helps, if you have any other advice it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Export to PDF from Autocad: Acrobat always opens PDF with 'layers panel and page' shown.

    Hello,
    Whenever I export to PDF from Autocad, Adobe Acrobat opens the PDF with the 'Layers Panel and Page' shown.
    Each time I have to manually go to 'Properties' and select 'Page only', close 'Properties' and close the PDF and select to save the changes, in order to show the just the page.
    Is there a way to make PDFs always export to 'Page only' automatically as default?
    Thanks!
    Ione

    Thakns Peter, I had seen this thread, but it doesn't really address my issue. I've exported individual chapters from the book file, all with success, so I know there isn't a file corruption issue.  The problem seems to do more with memory allocation/usage.
    I have tried: quitting and then immediately exporting the file, and even rebooting and then relanuching and exporting.  Both of these allow me to get a few pages farther along, but still not through the entire book.
    I remember back in the day there used to be a setting for how much RAM/dis c space was allocated to a certain applicatino (I knowm it was a long time ago).  I didn't know if there might be something like this hidden somewhere

  • CS6 fails to export to PDF - cannot find Acrobat

    Running Windows 7  and have Acrobat X installed. Can open Acrobat. Tried PDF (Interactive) and get error that it cannot find Acrobat. Plz help.

    InDesing does not require Acrobat to export PDF. Have you checked the box to view after exporting, perhaps? Can you export without that box checked?
    If so, there's something wrong in Windows, I suspect, that it cannot find Acrobat.

  • IPad export to PDF font problems

    Hi guys, would really appreciate any help you can provide on the following:
    So I can happily create wonderful documents on pages or keynote. The issue is when I export then to PDF which is by far, what I think is the best option as it seems to retain the layout and picture options etc, it. Seems that when I email this to people who don't have mac's the fonts on the PDF cannot be viewed.
    It seems that basic fonts are ok like arial, but anything that is somewhat interesting like apple gothic or even helvetica cannot be displayed.
    Does anyone have a solution to this, ie. Is there somewhere I could direct people to go to download apple fonts, or worse case is there anyway I can print from my pc, retaining the font.
    Many thanks for any replies....

    Unfortunately, the feedback link is next-of-kin to useless. Getting no response from them, and not knowing how many others have similar complaints is just pi**ing in the wind. If I am going to go to all the trouble to analyze a problem in detail and document the parameters, I am not going to just "throw it over the fence" and hope for the best.
    To that end, I just got off the phone with Apple Support. They are aware of the problem and have a team working on it.
    After discussing the issue at length, it seems that the best work-around is to use the iwork.com sharing gimmick. View the files from a browser and print (if needed) from the browser.
    You cannot use the "download as PDF" from iwork.com, because it generates corrupted PDFs, just like iPad does.
    It is also possible to be VERY selective about the fonts that are used when creating a document from scratch, but there is no easy way to know which fonts will work and which ones generate embedding errors.
    In my experience, most of the new document templates will NOT work.
    Anyway, the upshot is that there will be an update to the iPad Apps that will fix the problem. They do not know when that will be.
    It is suggested that the more complaints that they get about the issue, the faster it will be fixed. It is POSSIBLE that the feedback link may do something in this regard.
    If this issue is important to you, I would suggest taking the time to visit
    http://www.apple.com/support/expert/
    and talk to a real, live, human being about the problem.

  • Export to PDF Font Size

    Hi, I have designed a legal document for a customer, in the crystal report viewer and when printed the document looks fine.  If a user exports the document to PDF there is a reduction in font size.  I have seen where this is an issue in other versions of CR and there are registry key fixes for them, but I have v. 10.5 Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2008 (using c#).
    The other option i have found was to increase the font size before an export, I do not believe that this is a viable option, as the document is quite complex.
    If anyone might have any suggestions on a workaround, or a fix that I might have missed, I would really appreciate it!
    Thanks,
    JT

    I think the problem I had was similar, I would try the registry settings that you found and jsut change the version numbers to be 10.5 to match your product. I found this to solve my problem. I had to update my numbers to be 12.

  • Numbers | Export to PDF | Cannot Print Exported PDF

    I am having a heck of a time with being able to print PDFs exported out of Numbers. I have tried both the File>Export command and I have printed to PDF and printed to Adobe PDF. Once I open the exported / printed PDF files in Acrobat Reader and try to print them, Reader freezes after 30 seconds of ramping up its memory usage in excess of 300MB. The PDFs are less than a MB in size. I have been able to successfully print the exported / printed PDF files using Preview on a Mac, but the reason I need to be able to convert my spreadsheets to PDF is so that a colleague in another state can print them from a PC. Anyone run into this issue? Any help is greatly appreciated!!

    Is there a way to automate it such that it doesn't repeat the last row or do I just need to manually delete the formula out of all of the cells in the rows after the last?
    There sure is. I was in a rush and made a mistake in my formula. I've posted solutions to this problem at least a half a dozen times here in the past and for some reason I didn't recall the bit that you are having trouble with. It came to me overnight that I had led you astray.
    Here's a solution for the expression in the reduced table that I've used before and I'm pretty sure you will have success with:
    =IF(ROW()<(MAX(Data :: E)+1), INDEX(Data, MATCH(ROW(), Data :: $E), COLUMN()), "")
    Here's how it works...
    The auxiliary column in the table Data reports the count of important rows. The reduced table searches for the count number in the Data table matching the row number in the reduced table. The Index function then transfers the data for the matching row. The problem in my posted solution was with the condition that limits the copying of rows to the reduced table.
    Rather than checking the total number of rows in the data table, with an offset, I should have just checked to see how many "'important" rows there are by looking at the max count. The "+1" offset in the test is to account for the Header Row.

  • Bleeding background shape will not export to PDF

    Hello everyone,
    I am working in InDesign v. 7.0.3 and when I set a rectangle to bleed on all sides it will not export to PDF (using Adobe Acrobat Pro, v. 9.4.2) . That being said, shapes and text within the page all show up. Does anyone have any suggestions that might solve this very annoying mystery?
    Thank you in advance for your help!
    P.S. I should add that the save dialog box presents a desktop icon that does show the complete file.

    No background at all? not just bleed not showing?
    If it's restricted to this file, try Remove minor corruption by exporting
    If it's all files, Replace Your Preferences

  • InDesign doesn't let embed the font while exporting to PDF

    I used a font while working on a document in InDesign and later while exporting to PDF I got a warning that the software is unable to include that font.
    Is there a way to go around it? It was a free cyrillic font and it's not possible to buy it. I suppose creating outlines is not the right way to go
    Thanks in advance

    Eugene Tyson wrote:
    … Most free fonts that I know of don't allow embedding - for this reason it's not a good idea to use a free font. …
    I'm no particular fan of so-called “free fonts” — you most often get exactly what you pay for. However, that having been said, in my years of gathering such fonts for debugging and problem solving, in fact very few of them are actually set with the protection bits to prohibit embedding. For TrueType and OpenType fonts, you can readily check outside of InDesign as to whether a font is embeddable in a PDF file. For Windows, right-click on a font file and check the properties; embedding privileges are described in one of the tabs. For MacOS, the FontBook utility can provide the same information for a font.
    The problem is that when you attempt to use a font that is physically protected against embedding, you pretty much need to follow the advice given by Eugene. Personally, I would recommend the use a different font option, checking the font prior to using it for your rights to embed it in PDF.
    Note that font licensing is legal minefield. Many fonts that are posted on-line are not really free. Some are shareware with restrictions in their written licenses that require payment for commercial use (often in ReadMe files which may somehow be “lost” when such fonts are reposted over and over again) or even pirated fonts (i.e., commercial fonts simply illegally posted on-line).
    My personal recommendation is that for any commercial use, you explicitly license your fonts from a known, reliable source to avoid possible legal issues in the future.

  • [JS CS3 Win] Export to PDF then auto-print PDF from Acrobat

    Hello!
    I am working on the script that is exporting pages to PDF, and would like to automatically send exported PDF to print from Acrobat.
    I get the scripting part for exporting to PDF, and it's working very well, but I have trouble on the part of the script that tells Acrobat to open the PDF and send it to printer. Script is run from InDesign, so I thought this is right forum to ask.
    The following part of the script is working OK on one computer, but on other two computers with similar configuration (CS3. Windows, Acrobat 8) it doesn't work at all and I can't figure out where is the problem:
    var printFile = "/c/temp/test.pdf";
    var remoteScript = "printFile = decodeURI('"+printFile+"');\n";
    remoteScript += "var doc = app.openDoc({cPath: printFile});\n";
    remoteScript += "var pp = doc.getPrintParams();\n";
    remoteScript += "pp.pageHandling = pp.constants.handling.shrink;\n";
    remoteScript += "pp.NumCopies = 2;\n";
    remoteScript += "pp.interactive = pp.constants.interactionLevel.silent;\n";
    remoteScript += "pp.printerName = '\\\\hrhqzgw23prn01\\\hr300019ps';\n";
    remoteScript += "doc.print(pp);\n";
    remoteScript += "doc.closeDoc(true);";
    acrobat.executeScript(remoteScript);
    I would appreciate any help. thank you.

    Hi Mark,
    Here is a sample script. It exports the active InDesign document to pdf file, using its base name, to the root of C drive. Then opens the exported file in Acrobat, prints it to the default printer and silently closes it.
    Tested on InDesign 5.0.3, Acrobat 8.0.0, Windows XP SP3.
    #target indesign
    var myIndesignDoc = app.activeDocument;
    var myBaseName = GetFileNameOnly(myIndesignDoc.name);
    var myFile = new File( "/C/" + myBaseName + ".pdf" );
    myIndesignDoc.exportFile( ExportFormat.pdfType, myFile, false );
    var myScript = 'var myAcrobatDoc = app.openDoc( "/C/' + myBaseName + '.pdf" );\n';
    myScript += 'myAcrobatDoc.print( {bUI: false, bSilent: true} );\n';
    myScript += 'myAcrobatDoc.closeDoc( true );';
    var bt = new BridgeTalk;
    bt.target = "acrobat";
    bt.body = myScript;
    bt.send();
    function GetFileNameOnly(myFileName) {
        var myString = "";
        var myResult = myFileName.lastIndexOf(".");
        if (myResult == -1) {
            myString = myFileName;
        else {
            myString = myFileName.substr(0, myResult);
        return myString;
    Short explanation of the acrobat script:
    1. Open the pdf file, just exported from InDesign
    var myAcrobatDoc = app.openDoc( "/C/' + myBaseName + '.pdf" );
    2. To print the document silently I use the doc object’s print method and set the following parameters:
    bUI -- Determines whether to present a user interface to the user
    bSilent -- Suppresses the Cancel dialog box while the document is printed
    myAcrobatDoc.print( {bUI: false, bSilent: true} );
    3. Close the document without notifying the user:
    myAcrobatDoc.closeDoc( true );

    How to export a PDF to a word document? at the moment it came up with "The encoding (CMap) specified by a font is missing ????? what can I do?  thanks

    Hi frenchiem,
    This is due to the PDF file cannot display the original fonts. To fix it, creator should create the PDF file with the embed font option enabled. Thus, user can open the file on any platform with the same layout. Or the Acrobat product can display them after you install the appropriate font support package on the client side.

  • Export to PDF - Does not embed font

    Hello,
    I have created my CV in Pages. However when exporting the file as a PDF, my chosen font refuses to embed/render when I open it on a Windows computer. The specific error is:
    Cannot extract the embedded font 'LSHFUS+MuseoSlab-100'. Some characters may not display or print correctly.
    The resulting PDF displays correctly on my Mac, iPad and iPhone, but not on any Windows computer.
    Can anyone suggest what I might do to get this to work in Windows, and whether there are other applications available that help with exporting Pages documents to PDF?
    Thanks,

    Thanks for posting the links Koenig, hopefully we can figure out whether it is a font issue or a Windows issue. It's impractical to stop using non standard fonts, so I really don't want to go down the route of just using Arial/Verdana in my documents.
    I'm not the one urging you to do that. I think that we must be free to choose our fonts (even ugly ones if we want and I must say that I see most ugly ones than well formed ones).
    I did what I was able to do:
    I downloaded the fonts, used them in a document.
    Print a PDF , export a PDF.
    Then, I stored the two PDFs on a memory stick which I connected to an other machine which don't know what is MuseoSlab 500.
    The result is exactly the one which I got on the first machine.
    Also, how can I check if the font subset was embedded correctly in the PDF?
    Given the behaviour described some lines above, I assume that the embedded subset is correctly formed but, I can't guarantee that.
    This is why I asked peter to test because if I understand well, he has access to both operating systems.

  • Custom font not exported in PDF

    Hello Guys,
    In my web application, I have a crystal report developed in CR11 R2 SP3. The report uses custom font and it works fine when shown in report viewer.
    However I get errors while exporting report as PDF.
    1) In windows 2003 server, the pdf is exported without the font values.
    2) In Windows XP, pdf is not exported at all and I get an error:

    Can anybody please help. One more thing. The custom font is fine and has been working fine in other crystal report based applications.

    Ok, two suggestions:
    A)
    1) On your web app that throws the error, place label and a text box on your web form
    2) Use the custom font for the label and in the text box
    3) Run the app
    Does that work?

    If it does, I'd recommend using filemon and regmon utilities to fins out what is failing. Filemon can be found here:

    Regmon is here;
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/regmon.mspx
    Instructions on how to use the above:
    1) Load Filemon
    2) Press Ctrl + L. This will bring up the filter window.
    3) In the 'include' text box, put the name of the aspnet worker process, without the full path. ie: aspnet_wp.exe (ok)
    4) Click <OK>
    5) Press Ctrl + X to clear the display.
    6) run your application, get it to the point where it errors.
    7) Save the filemon log. File -> Save as
    8) Look for files where the 'result' column is not successful.

  • Export to PDF error with embedded font

    Hello,
    i have added a Barcode font to a report and it is failing to export to PDF now saying it that the "font is not allowed to be embedded in document".  i have tried with two different Barcode fonts A39W and C39W and both fail.
    I have looked at forums which suggested downloading patches and updating the registry key ForceLargerFonts to 1, however this has not worked in either V9, V10 or V11.
    Can anyone help??
    Many thanks,
    Hugh

    Hi there,
    I'm experiencing the same problem, except with the
    Frutiger 45 Light font. When I try to export the report from Crystal Preview to PDF I get the error,
    ++++++++++
    Failed to export the report.
    Frutiger 45 Light - Font is not allowed to be embedded in document.
    +++++++++++
    I'm using CR Developer, Full, version 11.0.0.1282
    I've checked in Windows XP and can see the font (a ttf) present with the other fonts installed on my PC in the Fonts folder accessed via the Control Panel in Windows. I can right-click on the font Frutiger 45 Light and see the Properties page for the Font. For all the Groups/Users I can see all the Permissions enabled except for Special Permissions.
    I dont know what you mean by getting the security changed from the supplier of the font to allow embedding into the PDF?
    My colleague was able to perform the same export from Crystal to PDF on his laptop, but it was an older laptop. So there must be a difference between the way our laptops are configured that is causing the problem. The version of CR is the same on both laptops the only obvious difference we can see is that the older laptop has Adobe version 6 installed and the new laptop has Adobe version 7, both machines have Distiller installed. He's now got an upgraded laptop and is getting the same error as I am.
    Any help here would be much appreciated.
    Regards
    Robert.
