Export to pdf with missing links
I recieved a indesign document with a few missing links on some small thumbnails. Is there any way to embed pictures with already missing links?
using ID CS5
Thanks
PDF export is a background task by default in CS5, so it can look like nothing is happening for a while (or it could be stalled). Open the Background Tasks panel and see if anything is really going on.

Printing InDesign to PDF with missing links
I received a document with lots of missing links for images (and I don't have access to those images)
- but when I printed it to a PDF the images are all there - how can this be? - not that I'm complaining when something works - but need to understand why it worked. Thanks for any helpIf it looks like the stop sign with the ? of doom you are just printing the proxy. If it looks like the Mac PICT icon it is embedded. If there is nothing it is linked and useable. One can generally export a pdf regardless of whether it is the best idea.
There is a 4th type of way to put an image in that doesn't show anywhere, though I'm not aware of how that works in terms or breakage. That's likely what you are getting from Word. It is not best practices as it can lead to file corruption when document bloat gets too big, but in small doses where nothing is color critical it isn't gonna hurt anything. -
InDesign-error exporting to pdf with art linked to a Read only server
My question is about an error exporting a PDF from InDesign ("Cannot export pdf"). The InDesign file has links to art (a .psd file) from a secure file server where I have Read permission only--not Read/Write. The error only happens when I have linked art from this server.
To export a pdf, is it necessary to have Write permissions to the server that has linked art? To export to PDF of course I am not changing the linked file! My InDesign file only links to it. So why doesn't it work if I have Read permission?
Can anyone help?
Can it really be that Read only permission is not enough for linking to art and making a pdf?I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Are you sure you have write permission where you want to save the PDF?

Exporting to PDF with hot html links
I'm trying to create a pdf document that has functioning html links. Does Pages let you do this?
To create a PDF with live links you'll need to buy a full version of Adobe Acrobat. Adobe Reader is just as titled - a reader. It will only allow reading and basic markup of pdfs.
The PDFs created through the Print menu are also very simple PDFs. Their creation is not a function of the program the original document comes from, be it Pages, Numbers, Word, Excel, Appleworks etc. It is based on the operating system using technology which is probably licensed from Adobe.
To get all the functionality available in a PDF, you've go to pay the piper - Adobe - for the software.
Good luck,

When you create a link to a web page in numbers "Mavericks" and we export the PDF file, the link is offset by 3 rows. Example: if I put a link on the text (with Cmd-K) in cell A1, I found the link A4. In fact, this feature becomes unusable. How can we solve this problem?
Thank you.Hi again Raja!
I did as you recommended and installed HTTPWatch and below is the outcome of that program. It is the exact string with the only exception of obfuscated servernames and portnumbers. The last part that begins with "sap_ep_baseurl=" makes me suspicious, is that part really correct? It looks like it's lacking things.
Best regards
Benny

Exporting to pdf with new numbers app
recently i upgraded from numbers 09 to numbers 3.0. i have a worksheet with 2 pages. with numbers 09 when i export to pdf it export as pdf with 2 pages works fine. but in numbers 3.0 when i wxport the same worksheet it combines both pages in one pdf page so i can't print it on 2 pages. any solution ?
Vikas
The solution is to Print to PDF rather than Export to PDF.
You will see that there are two pages in the Print dialog preview, and when you choose PDF, Open in Preview, you will see that the PDF version of the file has two pages.

Merging pdfs with internal links
I have merged 2 pdfs with internal links. After they were merged the bookmarks work but the links in the text do not. Any help on this?
Hi NovaRbt,
Could you please let me know what version of Acrobat and OS are you using.
How have you merged the two PDFs?
Are those links opening perfectly in the individual PDFs?
Please let me know.

InDesign CS6 Export to PDF has missing objects
When exporting to PDF, I have a 6-page document that has missing objects from the master.
Here's the document with the content removed:
lab.cyke.net/pdf/MissingObjects.pdf
The first and last pages were constructed correctly. All pages in between are screwed up. Any ideas?@Jongware – I have a case with InDesign CS5.5 7.5.3 on Mac OS X 10.6.8 where master pages based on each other lead to false representation of page objects.
Not only in pdf export, but also on the actual InDesign pages. Made an IDML from it, opened that in InDesign CS4 and the error was gone.
This problem is documented at the German-Swiss forum "HilfDirSelbst" at:
http://www.hilfdirselbst.ch/gforum/gforum.cgi?post=496285#496285
Some screen grabs together with the IDML are attached there.
After opening the IDML from InDesign CS4 with the error gone, I exported another IDML from CS4, opened that in InDesign CS5.5 7.5.3 and the error was present.
To detect the error look at pages 1* and 4 of the mentioned screen grabs.
Uwe
//EDIT: *the screen grab of the pages palette of InDesign CS5.5 shows the error on page 4 only. The error is present outside of page 1 as well, but cannot show on the screen grab.

Cannot export to PDF with grayscale PDF in layout
IDCS5.5, MacPro, OSX 10.7.4
I am working on a grayscale teacher’s guide that accompanies a CMYK schoolbook. The introduction pages contain miniature pages of the workbook (formatted as grayscale PDF), but InDesign refuses to output those pages as PDF ("Impossible d’exporter le fichier PDF"), or when it does produce a PDF (when exporting page by page), Acrobat warns of a possible problem and stuff is missing on the resulting page, not necessarily from the grayscale minipages.
I have tried grayscale PDFs created from the original CMYK PDFs in Acrobat Pro X, grayscale PDFs exported from the original CMYK file in InDesign CS6, PDFs reduced to 20% in InDesign, PDFs reduced to 20% with a third-party application and imported in ID at 100%, and all sort of variations on the export values. The problem is also present in InDesign CS4 (after exporting the file as IDML) and in CS6.
The thing is, there is no problem at all if I use the CMYK PDF version of the minipages (I then turned the resulting PDF into grayscale with Acrobat Pro X). But the printer expects to see only grayscale images in a grayscale job, not color... and a Photoshop version of those minipages is not acceptable.
Has anybody encountered that problem? Can you reproduce it, i.e. can you export to PDF if you use any type of grayscale PDFs in your layout?FOUND IT! Inspired by Rob solution, I was able to export my InDesign CS5.5 document containing some grayscale PDFs to PDF/X-3:2002 (and PDF/X-1a:2001), with or without the standard, but without converting to destination. For some reason, it does not work with PDF/X-4:2008, nor with any of the other presets.

Export to PDF with Working Hyperlink
Post Author: JaeLevel3
CA Forum: Exporting
I saw a few of these questions, and left unanswered. I hope answering this question can help several people.
It appears when the hyperlink starts with http, exporting Crystal to PDF, Acrobat recognizes the link. However, when the hyperlink is to a file on a drive, exporting to PDF, the link is not recognized. Is there a way to have the hyperlink to a file on a drive remain active when exported to PDF?One of the 3rd-party Crystal Reports Desktop Scheduling tools listed at: http://www.kenhamady.com/bookmarks.html provides a solution for this. It allows you to automate the process of exporting to pdf and then detecting file references in the pdf text and turning them to hyperlinks or detecting invisible formulas and turning them into file hyperlinks.

I have a script that exports each individual page to a pdf with each page having it's own metadata.
It works fine except for on small thing.
The keyword array looks like this in the final PDF.

Thanks!

To render metadata on top of your image, you can use the slideshow module, add a text overlay with your custom metadata and export to jpegs. You can do similar things inside the Print module but you cannot control the placement of the text.

How can I Export a PDF with Hebrew Font
I am having trouble exporting a PDF file with a Hebrew font into word document.
Sorry for the long delay in getting back to you! I must have missed your original post.
Unfortunately our ExportPDF service doesn't support Hebrew text. You can vote for this feature in here: http://forums.adobe.com/ideas/1554 We use the Ideas section to help prioritize features.

Exporting to PDF with hyperlinks, how do I keep the squares from showing around them?
I have a document Im creating and I have ads created in graphics, other PDFs, and text which all have hyperlinks in them that I want to be clickable. the JPGs with them, I put an invisible square over the link and assigned the link. For most of the PDFs I got, the hyperlinks were already clickable. When I export the final document to PDF, all those links are carried over just how I like, and no squares are shown over those links...perfect. For all the typed text that has hyperlinks, those show a square going around those links. Its VERY ugly! How do I keep it from doing that and keep everything clickable that needs to be?
The following simple Javascript should set all of document's hyperlinks to "invisible rectangle":
var myHyperlinks = app.activeDocument.hyperlinks.everyItem().getElements();
for (i = myHyperlinks.length - 1; i >= 0; i--){
myHyperlinks[i].visible = false;
(save it as "HyperlinksInvisible.jsx", or whatever, put it into the Scripts panel folder, and double-click its name in the Script Panel to run it.) -
Hi,
I'd like export my document in PDF. Is pages able to create bookmarks automatically via titles? I don't see anything like this. It's very comfortable to read a PDF with content table.
Thanks for helping.I created a bookmark to a web page and exported it to a PDF file. It worked just fine. Upon opening the pdf file, I had a clickable link to the web site.
Try this in your pages document.
1. First open the web link and copy the address from your web browser.
2. On a blank line in pages, go to Insert on the menu bar and choose Bookmark.
3. Choose Paste from the edit menu. A bookmark for that web site will be created.
4. Choose Export from file.
5. Choose PDF
Save it!
Hope this is what you had in mind! -
[CS4 WinXP] InDesign crashes on opening docs with missing links
Hi,
I expect this issue is more to do with the PC than InDesign itself but I would be interested to know if anyone else has seen a similar problem (and been able to resolve it).
The design team in my office have just been given new HP Compaq PCs with CS4 (inc. InDesign 6.0.4). When these designers attempt to open certain InDesign documents, their InDesign will crash with no warnings or dialogues. The same documents can be opened on other (older) PCs without crashing.
The documents which crash all contain links to graphics on a network which is not available. The same document will open on older PCs but will obviously report missing links. The network is not available to the older PCs either. The older PCs are also running InDesign CS4 (6.0.4).
If the failing documents are opened on older PCs and the links removed, these can then be opened on the new PCs with no issues.
As I said, I expect this is a PC/Networking issue rather than InDesign itself but any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Simon KempTry changing the preferences regarding checking links on open, and also using a workspace that doesn't include the links panel or preflight. That might be enough to get the files to open, and exporting to .idml or .inx and resaving might solve th problem (for that matter, it wouldn't hurt to export one from the older machine and see if that will open).
