Export to Quicktime for PC playback

I'm trying to export Motion and Soundtrack Pro projects to play back on Quicktime 7 for PC (640x480 MPEG-4 video 85% quality, 2 track audio for eventually presentation on LCD projector) . Nothing I've tried seems to work. I thought I used MPEG-4 last year with After Effects, but darn no matter what I do it won't even open on the PC side. Tried H.264 as well - nadda, same error:
I've tried .MP4 and .MOV extensions - no luck.
Here is the weirdest part. I can export iMovie projects out with the SAME quicktime settings (EXACTLY THE SAME), and they play fine in PC land.
EXTREMELY ****** so I won't go any further with my rant.
Can someone please help me with the proper process & settings to EXPORT to PC Quicktime?

I've got the video to work using Sorenson and H264 from Motion. I don't know why it works other than I upgraded my iTunes & Quicktime on the PC. I had 7.1 Quicktime on there already. So now this is what is weird:
If I take my Motion exported video into Soundtrack Pro (as either Sorenson or H264 format) and add some multitrack audio and Export using the following settings, my PC can't open the resulting QT file - WHY!:
(Using Soundtrack Pro)
File
Export with Compressor
Preserve Video
PCM 16bit (only audio option I'm given)

  • Best way to export a quicktime for crisp/clear text

I created a few 60 second text animations and they look perfect when viewing on my NTSC monitor but the text is fuzzy in the NTSC DV quicktimes I made. I exported them at DV resolution because I was originally told the final piece would be on DVD but it turns out they will be projected from a laptop. What are the best settings for exporting a quicktime for this purpose?
    -Jon

When you created them, did you scale them using the "Scale" option under the Motion tab, or the "Size" option under the Control parameters? You should be using "Size".

  • Exporting from Quicktime for optimal editing in FinalCut Express

I've read that it is recommended to export H.264 for best quality in Quicktime, but Final Cut Express doesn't play H.264 in real time. It forces you to render if you want to edit in the timeline. What is the best format to export from Quicktime in to enable real time editing in FCE?

To convert the file so that FCE doesn't need rendering you need QuickTime Pro and do the following:
    - open the file
    - menu File > Export...: then select +Export: Movie to QuickTime Movie+ and click Options.
    - In the +Video > Settings+ dialog select:
    - Compression Type: DV/DVCPRO-NTSC (or DV-PAL) and make sure that:
    - Frame Rate: 29.97 (or 25), Quality is Best, Scan Mode: Interlaced, Aspect Ratio: 4:3 (or 16:9 if anamorphic)
    - In the +Sound > Settings+ dialog select:
    - Format: Linear PCM, Channels: Stereo (L R), Rate: 48000, Quality: Normal, Sample size: 16 bits
The result is a .mov file (not .dv) that doesn't need rendering when imported to FCE to a sequence with setup DV-NTSC (or PAL).

  • Exporting to Quicktime for FCP Import

I just finished a project (digital pictures) using Still Life software from Granted (www.grantedsw.com). I want to export my project to a Quicktime movie for import into Final Cut Pro 4.5, to add transitions, music, etc.
When I go to export to Quicktime it asks me under "Motion" for how many frames per second (it is by default at 12 fps) and key frame (which is by default at 24 frames.
I want the best quality for importing into Final Cut. How many fps should I use and what is the best key frame?
I am also given the option for the size:
    160x120
    320x240
    640x480
    720x480
    720x576
Not too sure what size is best, as well. Any help would be great. Thanks!

I'd be matching the export settings to the sequence settings you intend to edit this movie into... so for say DV NTSC: 720X480 at 29.97 fps...

  • Want to use Quicktime for Internet Playback but i cant

    Hi
I want to use Quicktime in Firefox or Camino for Internet Playback of MP3 files but i cant change it!
Dont know whats wrong here. Everytime i want to listen to an MP3 Track RealPlayer comes in and does the job...
All the searching through the net didnt help much. :'(
Maybe someone knows how i can fix this.
    Thanks in advance!
    Zettt
    [EDIT:]
The site which causes the trouble is www.myownmusic.de

That Site has coded the html to call the Real Player plug-in. You could look at the source code, find the .mp3 file (and its complete URL) and open that URL in the QuickTime Player.
May not be worth the effort. I am able to view the entire .mp3 URL in Safari's Activity window and use copy/paste to the QT Player's "Open URL" dialog.

  • Exporting to quicktime for web

Can you tell me the best quality setting when exporting a clip from final cut for use on a website.
The clip has been green screened with the filter and it looks clear in the viewer, but when watching it in quicktime and on the web, its fuzzy?
    Any ideas
    Thank you

    No there isn't.
You will need to purchase a separate Flash encoder.
There are several with the most notable, of course, being from Adobe.

  • Exporting to Quicktime for older versions

Hello. I have a the latest version of QT and so when I export a video, it plays on my computer but not for folks running older Window versions. Is there a way I can export to a QT 6 clip without having to re-install the older version of QT therefore losing the benefits of having QT 7 myself? I export in Final Cut Pro. Would getting Quicktime 7 Pro work?
    Thanks for any help.
    powermac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Quicktime 7 uses H264 encoding in all the presets and that means such movies require QT 7. You will have to use custom exports and choose mpeg-4 to make files that will require only QT 6. If you use Sorenson 3 then QT5 for Windows will read that. Finally, the Sorenson encoder without a number will produce video readable in QT 4 and later. If you are not up to speed on how to make customized encodings then download this pdf guide to learn how to do it. I'm not sure if this link is still active so you may have to do a search of the Quicktime site if the link doesn't work for you:

P.S. That link seems to work but you will need the free Acrobat reader installed to be able to use the guide.

  • Issues with playback on Quicktime for Windows

    Hi All,
I created a little slide show within iPhoto containing 290 pictures and lasting about 30 minutes. I exported it to a .mov file which was added as a video clip within FCE. Next, in FCE, I added background music, some video transitions and exported the completed project using H.264 codec. The .mov file plays fine on the Mac within the Quicktime Player. But not so hot on a Windows XP Pro laptop. In the final 90 seconds of the 30 minute movie, the screen goes green and the audio is replaced with static.
I have all of the updates for my workstation and the tools that I am using, (FCE, iPhoto). I have tried different versions of Quicktime for Windows, re-exported the movie from FCE and tried playback on different XP systems all with the same result.
Again, the first 28:30 of the movie plays perfect and looks great, but that last 90 seconds goes nuts.
Unfortunately, the presentation of this video requires that I play it back on the PC laptop.
Thanks for offering any advice you may have.

    Hello,
I am currently trying to play the file directly from the computer's hard drive. I will take your advice and export again as an mpeg. Any advice on what mpeg settings render the best looking videos?

  • Exporting film for file playback on macbook

I would like to export my film in Final Cut Express for playback on my macbook which will be connected to a projector. What would be the best settings to export the 97min film so I can get the best video and sound quality?
I have played around with a few of the settings but I am getting lines in the picture - do I need to deinterlace? If so, how would I do so? It is PAL footage at 25fps
    Thanks

For projection, and assuming no known issues, do the following:
    In FCE, do the following:
Do not "play around with settings."   If you did play around with stuff, undo it.
    Do not deinterlace.
Do Sequence > Render All > Both and
Do Sequence > Render Only > Mixdown.
    Then save your project.
Then export to QuickTime Movie (NOT QuickTime Conversion).  If you are projecting from the same Macbook that your FCE project is on,  you can save time & disk space if you export to QuickTime Movie and  UNcheck the option called "Make movie self-contained".  This is also a great way to test your video first; if there are problems you can quickly go back & make changes without losing lots of time & disk space to exporting self-contained movies.  But if you need to copy/move the video to a different computer you will have to "Make movie self-contained".
Connect your Macbook to your projector and play the exported QT Movie.

Try Mixing Down the audio before export.

  • Keynote 09 exporting to QuickTime playback issue

    Hello,
I am looking for some amazing expertise and really appreciate any help and guidance.
I've exported a presentation from Keynote 09 to Quicktime and have an issue. When I try to play the presentation in QT X, I click to advance from slide 1 to 2 and it works perfect, but then when I click to advance to slide 3 it returns me to the start of slide 1 every time. Meanwhile when I use the spacebar/quickview without opening QT the entire presentation plays perfectly.
When I look at the QT file on a PC (using a thumb drive or a CD) QT 7 the file plays correctly in my testing. I have heard from others who these CDs were provided to that some may have had a similar issue, but I can not verify.
Please let me know any additional information I can supply. Can anyone help me understand this issue better and possibly help me correct it? Is this a known issue, or a simple user error?
    Many thanks,
    Michael

    Thanks Dani and Glad...
As an update on my side:
I called in to Apple to try and find out if I jump up to Final Cut Studio (with a bit of a learning curve), if I would be able to replicate exactly the (slideshow) video I made easily in Keynote, hopefully avoiding this issue with the assumption that it is specifically related to Keynote.
Prior to getting on the line with a Final Cut expert, I did fully explain why I was calling with the hope of getting a solution for this issue as I would like to keep Keynote in my arsenal, especially since I am semi-fluent in it.
The person helping was very nice and asked to put me on hold for 3-5 minutes, which I am perfectly happy to wait for complete and accurate information. The solution I was presented with was as follows:
    1) Go to export to QT as usual.
    2) Click the second drop down (Formats) and select 'Custom...'.
    3) A new window will pop up, click the 'Settings...' button.
My 'Compression Type' drop down was set to 'H.264'....I was told to
    4) Change the 'Compression Type' to 'MPEG-4 Video.
(I do not think it is related to the fix being suggested or just as a preference, I was told to slide the Compressor - Quality slider on the bottom left to 'Best')
    5) Click the 'OK' button on the bottom left
    That window will close.
    6) Click the 'Next' button and continue with your export.
I did this and the QT file worked, unlike the original I had done. I can not confirm it isn't a hit or miss like Glad saw...but I did ask if this was a "just try this and let's see" (like Microsoft, altctldel...try restarting your machine) or if this is a known issue....it wasn't totally clear, but I was told (not exact words, but basically) there may be something funky about Keynote or QT with H.264. I don't know codecs so have no idea, but I continued....
In case I still don't feel comfortable with this "fix" (which I am not sure I do...I also made a new, but less complex video and switched back to H.264 - this one worked...) I asked to still be connected to a FC expert, just to ask my questions anyway as it would be good knowledge to have, even if just for future self development.
I again did my best to explain what was going on, and the Final Cut person did not understand how changing to H.264 would make any difference...to mention, it is possible I had a hard time getting on the same page as this person who was trying to help me so he may not have understood exactly what I was asking exactly - but he did understand my bottom line - I need to make this video that works when exported to Quicktime!
Not sure if related (would be curious if this is relevant to others here), again not being familiar with codecs, etc - I had dropped a few QT movies I was given from someone else not being sure what they used to create it. I thought a Quicktime movie is a QT move - universal standard....apparently so for playing but not for re-exporting.
I was advised to get a QT 7 Pro key so in the future I can open QT movies I am sent in QT and re-export it as a QT movie from my machine (OS, codec, etc, etc, etc) before dropping it into a project I am working on.
Being on OS 10.6 I have QT X, which does not have this functionality (as mentioned - no Pro version) and when I tried to get a QT 7 Pro key in the past I was misinformed that I wouldn't be able to install it on my machine since it is running a newer version and wouldn't let me install an outdated/older version. Apparently, this is not totally accurate - it is missing from my Utility folder, but I need to do a custom install of it (only way to do it - can't just DL it) from the 10.6 OS disk.
Please, let me know if any of this worked for you or if I can add more details I left out.
Best of luck (...for us all)!!!!
    Michael

  • Re user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? - I've followed instructions so far so good, until I get to "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?

Re AppleMan 1958 excellent user tip: How can I import a homemade DVD into iMovie for editing? -
I've followed instructions with success until  "You can then FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME and choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video codec. "  How do I do that?
I installed MGEG Streamclip 193b8 and used their utility to install quicktimempeg2 and got a message stating it was successfully installed.  (I'm on latest Maverick 10.9.2 on iMac)  Then I dragged the VIDEO_TS file from my home DVD into the streamclip app.  It asked which of 4 files to use, and I selected the first one.  Streamclip played the video with the sound.  so far so good. but now I cannot figure how to use quicktime player 10.3 to export this vob file out of streamclip.

Thank you for your quick reply and for clearing up my confusion.  I'm exporting the first section now.  I choose the smallest size, 3x4 but I'd prefer to go higher as this DVD was originally a VHS home movie.  I'm wondering if after three conversions (VHS,->DVD->MPEG) the resolution will be so poor as to not support a larger size frame?  If it can, what size should I select when I export?

  • Saving Settings for use with Export using Quicktime Conversion

    Dear All,
Is it possible to save a set of settings for use with the Export using Quicktime Conversion feature? The reason I ask is that we have to export a quicktime of every tv commercial we make (using the same settings) and it would be great if "one click" could deliver the export settings we need.
    All the best, Sean

Well, you can create a droplet from Compressor that would do what you'd like...
Open compressor and in the Help menu, Select the user manual. Navigate to page 315.
