Export to tape issue

So, this is my first time trying to export back to tape from PPro and I have issues.
My project is HDV 1440X1080.  When I do the export to tape, it says rendering to HDV, which seems weird since I thought why would it need to render if the asset is also the correct format?
But, the issue is when I try to read this tape portion back in with hdvsplit.  For all the normal stuff I recorded to tape, it works great.  I see the timecode, and I get one file per recording time I did with the camera.
But, for the part of the tape I exported, with HDVsplit, it reads in the section as just fixed file sizes of 1,596kb time and time again. When I look at the files, they all say zero time.
Now, if I use Ppro to capture this portion of tape, it reads the file in fine.
Since I have a need to read this entire tape with HDVsplit, it is critical for me to figure out how to record back to tape correctly so I can read it back correctly with HDVsplit.
Is there a reason there is no timecode put onto the tape when one exports?
Thanks

When you record back to tape it has always been one file even with dv.
Scene detection only works with a tape that has scene breaks in the the Time/Date stamp which has been induced by stopping and starting the camera while recording.

  • Export to tape issues

    Hi Everyone,
    (First time poster)
I was wondering if someone could help me. I have a new HP tower: Windows 7 Home 64bit Intel I7 Processor 8gb ram ATI 1gb video card with CS5 Production Premium.
When I try to 'Export To Tape' -on various Professional level decks and cameras-, (Sony DSR-45 & 1500, Panasonic DV 200, Sony PD-170), the audio/video comes out intermittent with 'stutters' or goes to black and then comes back, etc.
Now I have the firewire cable set on Legacy and when I use CS3- same machine- I have no issues or errors so it's not the firewire cable. I keep checking the Sequence Settings on PP CS5 but it doesn't work. I chose Hardware if supported, Software, None, etc.
I believe I've seen others with this same issue and, at least from what I saw, there isn't a fix yet.
This seems to be the only issue that I'm having as I'm burning to DVD and then going Out of my DVD Player to the camera via RCA which doesn't really keep the quality.
Hopefully I gave enough information and would love to get some other thoughts opinions for a Fix or Workaround if there is one. I have All my adobe products updated to their latest versions so I don't really know what else to do.
Thanks Everyone and I Hope to hear back from you guy's soon :-)

  • Firewire Export To Tape Issue

I cannot export to tape (DVCam DSR-11) via firewire. Deck is recognized, device control works and I can record FROM deck into CS5.5. The "export to tape" window indicates that recording is successful, but nothing is going to tape. The sequence is set to DV and I think other settings are fine. I had no problems with this in XP with CS3. Now with Win7Pro & CS5.5 it doesn't work. Am using the firewire400 port on MB, no added cards.
    Help please
    Thanks

  • Trouble with new Sony Z5U exporting to tape

I am using Premiere Pro CS3.  Just purchased the New Sony Camcorder Model Z5U.  Tried to export to tape and Premiere doesn't want to cooperate.  Anyone having the same problem and if so, any fixes that you might have run across???

I exported the same project to a JVC model HR-DVS2 tape deck and it recorded it.  I also have to confess that I am new to CS3.  Not to Premiere.  I have avoided using CS3 because I have not taken the time to learn it.  I work with TV production and the timing has forced me to use old reliable 6.5.  I guess I am getting too old to learn.  I am having fits with CS3 because I didn't take the time to work with any of the Pro series.  Have them all but didn't use them.  First version crashed on me in a hurryup project so I gave up on it.  I used to be able to figure these issues out on my own...now I'm lost.

  • Random freeze or stop on export to tape

I have an i7 2.93 GHz with 3GB DDR-3 RAM.  I have a Zotac TX295 video card.  The system is a dual boot with Vista Ultimate 32 bit/XP Pro 32 bit.  I am primarily using Vista.  I have 2TB between2 RAID pairs, 750GB OS drive and a separate 750GB data drive.
Windows, Adobe hardware firmware, etc. is all up to date.
4 weeks ago (6/6) I successfully exported over 8 hours of DV footage to a DVCAM and a mini-DV camera.  Now i keep having a tape export problem.  One of two things happens:
    1. The tape will not record the full length of the project, not report any dropped frames but say it was successful.  It's random.  It can be a minute into the project or 30 minutes into it when it happens.  When this happens you see the camera viewfinder flicker to a blue screen real quick before returning to the video and stop recording.
    2. The video hits a random frame and continues recording but frozen on that frame with the sound stuttering on the sound of a single frame.
As of tonight now, I have an additional issue where once you try to export Premiere slows down dramatically.  But, if I turn off or disconnect the camera from the computer everything suddenly speeds back up.
All the while Premiere still reports I have about 1.2GB of free memory.  I even set the Page File to min. of 3 GB and a max of 6 GB.
Here's what I have tried but have still had no success:
    1. I brought the project into a new one and deleted the render files and then re-rendered.
    2. I exported the project out as a new AVI, brought that into a new project.
    3. I exported the project out as a new AVI, switched to the XP OS, brought it into a new project in different scratch disk folders on a different hard drive.
    4. I held down Shift while Premiere started to clear the plug-in cache.
Now the only recent changes that I'm aware of in the last 4 weeks are as follows (I listed what I did to try to resolve the issue):
    1. I updated my RAID controller card so I moved the files to a non-RAID drive thinking the firmware update created a problem.
    2. I updated the video card drivers so I rolled them back to the version they were 4 weeks ago.
    3. I saw that there was a .Net Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 update.  According to Microsoft this only provided a security patch for Firefox.
I can't figure out what's going on.  I can't export this project yet 2 projects that are from 4 weeks ago or older seem to export to tape fine.  And the weird thing is if I take the exported clip of this project that won't export to tape and bring it to my friend's computer who has Premiere Pro 2.0 it exports to tape successfully every time.
I don't trust the stability of the software now.  I even had a few weird instances that when mono clips were imported Premiere randomly saw them as stero clips.
Any ideas?  I have another major project to start and the instability is really worrying me.  Please contact me at [email protected].  Thanks.

    One other thing...
I tried to different cameras, firewires and the firewire connection on my firewire card and coming off the motheboard.

  • Premiere will not export to tape - video freezes

I'm sort of revisiting a problem I thought I solved. Initially I had issues with playback in my source and program monitors. I would hit play and it would roll the video for about two seconds then freeze (the audio would continue).
I found that only when I had my DV device (sony PD-170 or Sony DSR-11) hooked up to the computer, it would do this. But when I pulled the firewire from my device it would no longer freeze and I could go on with my editing.
I thought, okay, I'll just capture the footage then pull the device. That's worked up until I realized that it does the same thing if I want to export to tape. It will not play the video in the program monitor so my recording device records nothing at all.
Any ideas on why this happens only when my DV device is hooked up to the computer?

I'm with Jim. Works for me.
Another alternate is CyberLink Power Director (not freeware), that also does a good job with all SD material to my Canons.
Sorry that I do not have a direct answer for you,

  • I need to capture while continuing to edit and export to tape, bad idea?

Is it possible to use a different capture program (other than iMovie) to capture DV footage while I continue to do cuts only editing with Final Cut and perhaps even exporting to tape through a different deck on a Dual 2.0 G5 with two hard drives? I understand that I need a program that captures the clip as a QT movie at 48 kHz.
I need to do this in order to justify moving from a linear edit system for news.
What would be the recommended system capable of this?
    17 PowerBook 1.33 GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.7)

Licensing issues prevent us from just dumping our feeds onto one server and then connecting it to all the edit bays with Gigabit. But cost is a big factor for us since we are small. One machine at a time is what we can do since it's all new to us and unproven, really. Prove that it can be faster, then, we can move to put a G5 in every edit bay. Right now the editors can record a feed of several stories and continue to edit in the bay. They order the feed, then hit record and go back to work.
Only one deck isn't a problem, the importing will come from a router going thru a DV bridge. But just as long as we can import while we continue to do some cuts only editing, no effects, no filters while we import. No need to export at the same time, tho that would be cool if ever possible.
Once all the stories are done for the show, we will export, perhaps just play back off FCP during the show, easier for the tape op to just hit the spacebar I guess.
basically the question is, what bare bones capture utility will grab our 48kHz DV footage and give us enough CPU left that it won't crash when we go back to editing?

  • Export to Tape (Serial) With 708 Captions

    Hi there,
I am using blackmagic Decklink card to output video to a sony HDCAM machine. The recording must have 708 captioning. I have including a MacCaption (MCC) file on the sequence timeline. According to the MacCatpion site this is required for 708 captioning. In the program monitor I have it set to 708 Captionin and everything displays correctly. Upon export to tape there are no visible captions in the SDI output of the Black Magic Decklink card (this is verified using a tektronix scope)
Is there anyone that has succesfully exported 708 captioning to tape?
    Thanks in advance

Were you able to get this resolved? I am having a similar issue. Though I have explored a few other scenarios.
I embedded .mov ProRes HD file with captions and brought it into Premiere with the same results of the 708 don't show up on playback and output via our HD-SDI caption encoder box. Though the one result that did allow for me to output correct captions on 608/708 was when I digitized show that has embedded captions. I put the digitized file in the timeline and output that, and the captions came through. The issue seems to be with both:
    1. Embedding an mov with DTV 608/708 and outputting via HD-SDI
    2. Using an MCC file in the timeline to output to tape via HD-SDI
I have used both Blackmagic extreme 3d and AJA ioXT with VANC turned on with both, and both don't output 708. For clarification the 608 shows up fine when I output, but the 708 are garbled and don't output to tape.

  • Export to tape stops unexpectedly

    Hello,
I am trying to Export to Tape from CS4 to a Sony DSR-1500AP deck. It starts fine, but after about 5 minutes (a different point on each occasion) everything just stops.
This happens in DV and DVCAM projects.
I would be extremely grateful for any assistance!
    Thanks
    Robin

We have the same deck but had a similar issue with our DSR-11 on show site. Our export would stop recording "Export to Tape" at the exact place (as indicated by the CTI) every time. Very frustrating. It turned out in our case that the problem related to an NTSC Widescreen *.avi file that was created on a Mac using Boot Camp. Are there any suspect files in your project? I solved the issue on an earlier version of Premiere (not CS4) by bringing this file (where the tape stopped) into an new project and exporting it as a Microsoft AVI as opposed to a DV AVI. Once I replaced the file on the timeline with my new exported version, the export to tape went without a hitch.

  • PE 2 Export to tape problem

Could anyone please give me an answer to this, in Elements 2, if I export to tape it plays the timeline out to the tape ok, when you play the tape back in the camera everything seems alright, If I then try to capture the said tape, I can’t detect any Audio, Video is fine, although there is sound on the camera
If I export to tape in Premiere Pro that tape can be captured Video and Audio.
Why is it not working in PE 2, I’m sure it used to, very embarrassing when I sent a tape to someone and he couldn’t capture sound, he rang to say there is sound on the camera, but won’t capture it, then I tried at my end and found there was this problem.

Because of the way video is streamed over FireWire from a miniDV, it really isn't possible that you're getting the video and not the sound, Team. They're all one file!
There are only a few possibilities that I can think of:
    1) Your camcorder is recording the audio at a non-standard sample rate or audio format (something other than 12 bit 48K).
    2) Your camcorder is equipped with a dubbing feature and, for some reason, the audio is configured to record to channels 3 and 4 rather than 1 and 2.
But you're right. If if either of these were true, why would it work with version 1 and not version 2?
    So one other possibility is:
    3) The ASIO is configured wrong in version 2. Seems strange that that's the case on two computers -- but it could be.
The test is to play the video you've captured with version 2 in Windows Media Player. Is there sound?
If there is sound, you know that version 2 captured the audio okay but the program isn't playing it right.
If there is no sound, then there must be an issue with how the camcorder is configured.
As I said, audio and video streaming over FireWire from a miniDV are not two separate files! So there's no way the program could get one and not the other. The only possibility is that, for some reason, one program is seeing it and the other isn't.

  • DVCPRO capture issues - FCP or tape issue ?

Can anyone help me rule out whether this is a tape issue or a problem with my system ?
Trying to capture from DVC PRO tapes - problem is I don't know if they are DVC PRO 25 , DVC PRO 50, or HD
(we inherited these tapes from another company, who shot them but is not being forthcoming about how they shot...)
I have a Panasonic AJ-SD93 deck hooked up to Final Cut 5.1.4 via 6pin firewire (G5)
I start playing tape with regular DV NTSC settings in Log & Capture, timecode seems to be rolling continuously, the deck display says i is DVC PRO 50 - then I hit Capture Now and I get a freeze frame, and an error message :
Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape. Capture has been aborted.
So is it the tape ?
The weird thing is I was able to capture up to about 10 min of the first tape.
Even when playing back, something changes on the tape at about 10 min - but what ? Timecode is continuous - what coudl change and make it uncapturable ?.

Did you choose the proper Easy Setup? You need to choose the Easy Setup that matches the footage, so FCP knows what sort of signal to expect. If you try capturing DVCPRO 50 as DV/NTSC, then you would get this error.

  • Any 3rd Party Application(s) to export to tape?

Heya guys. Hope production has been treating you all well. I'm kind of in a jam here where for some reason both my sony dv decks have stopped working via firewire. I currently need a third party application(if one exists) that can export a ProRes file to DV Tape. I'm about to go through the pain of reinstalling FCS 7, but I've asked a friend to come by with his cam for me to export a program to tape. I reinstalled my OS as a last ditch effort to see if that was the problem, sadly, it wasn't. So I can only conclude that my decks are... swabed.

That's strange then Nick. Almost all my timelines are in a different codec setting. I just figured FCP just plays em back through DV signal which is why all these years I've been able to export my ProRes timeline to mini DV tapes. Premier Pro did it as well...H.264 is another story. Been trying to switch over to FCPX lately so I don't wanna have to reinstall FCP 7 if I don't have to... or Premier for that matter. I don't mind converting the clips to DV but the question still remains, do you guys have any apps to export to tape?

  • Can't export to tape on Premier Pro CS4 Extended

When I attempt to export to tape from Premier Pro CS4 Extended, version 4.1.0, to a DV Cam, the tape rolls and records (with device control) but I get no video or audio.
    I have:
-selected the timeline for the sequence
-the work area bar is over the entire sequence
-I’ve made sure the tape is record enabled
-I have tried two DV cameras, and three fire wire cords
-I am able to capture video into the computer using all of the above
-I’ve tried moving my project from my external hard drive to my internal one
    Still no export…….
    Any ideas why?
-I am using a Dell computer with:
                - Windows XP Professional 2002 Service pack 3
                - Intel[R] Core [TM]2 Quad CPU
                -Q9450 @ 2.66JHz
-2/66 GHz, 3.25 GB of RAM
                -Physical Address Extension
-Unfortunately I can not find the name of my video card but this computer was   built specifically to edit video so I am sure it has one.

Make sure External Device under Export is enabled in the Playback Settings of the Program monitor.

  • Can't export to tape !   Help !

    Hi,
I'm having some trouble exporting an HDV sequence back out to tape from Premiere Pro CC.
I click on "File > Export > To Tape".
Then the "render and record" window pops up.
I click ok, but instead of the render line coming up and then recording, it just jumps to the "Transcoding to HDV" box, and almost instantly just returns to the "Render and record" one without doing anything.
And when I try to export a DV sequence, the VCR starts recording but received neither picture nor sound from PC.
    Import works normally !
The problem is the same regardless of the recording device: Camcorder Canon HV20 and XHA1, or VCR Sony M25 .
Curiously, a few weeks ago, export was ok.
    I don't understand !!!
With Premiere Pro CS6, everything is ok, both import AND export.
Has anyone experienced something like this before ?
Thanks in advance for your help !

Same problem here, double checked on another system with Adobe Premiere CS6 export works fine.
The same project settings / sequence settings (HDV 1440x1080@50i in Premiere CC and unable to export to Sony HDV deck.  It starts rendering and writing but image stays black.
Using an other NLE software on the same system exports normally, so the firewirecard / deck and connections are fine.
Device control is the same as in CS6, disabled mercury engine (problem in the past)
    Any idea would be appriciated

  • Can't export to tape...HELP PLEASE

    Hi,
I can't seem to export my sequence to tape on my Sony DCR-PC8E PAL camcorder.
I select select File -> export -> export to tape
It says it is ready; starts the camera recording automatically; but the camcorder screen remains blue and no signal is recorded.
The camcorder says 'DV IN' on the screen.
Sending a sequence to tape from windows movie maker works fine.
    Capturing from tape works fine.
Anyone got any ideas on how to make this work?
    Thanks D.

    Solved
You have to change the playback settings in the sequence settings for each sequence.
