Export to Vimeo Help

Hi all,
So I just started using the latest version of Final Cut and am having some trouble.
Here's my situation:
- i am uploading raw footage of an assembly at school (approx. 75 mins of footage)
- i chose "share" and then "vimeo" and changed the setting to my desire. (Large 540p)
I did everything right. Logged into vimeo with name and pw. Then clicked "publish"
However, nothing happened. No bar showing progress.
When I went to exit Final Cut, I am told background tasks are still running. And it shows rendering at 58%.
Also shows Sharing Tab and underneath I see "processing" at 7% and "Vimeo" at 0%  It has been this way for about 35 minutes with no progress.
Can anyone provide some help?
It says the file will be about 2.6 GB.
Thank you

I upload to Vimeo regularly. I've had better luck going thru Compressor first, THEN uploading to Vimeo. Vimeo has pretty specific guidelines on how big a file can be.
They have a great tutorial on how to do this: (using Compressor--or other software)
https://vimeo.com/help/compression
(click on the "Compressor 4" icon from the large list on the right side of the screen.)
Vimeo claims Apple "doesn't have the settings just right." (I'm paraphrasing.) So, they give you THEIR specs.
Good luck!

    Hi all,
    Finished editing a short movie.
Then went to share on vimeo but got this message - see also screenshot when I tried to export to desktop.
Problem when exporting to Vimeo I get message "The share operation has failed. Quicktime error: -50" The file only gets to 8%.
Have tried deleting my render files for the project and also another fix mentioned of deleting any black space files on the edit itself but neither work?
Just upgraded to OS Mavericks could this be causing it? If so how to downgrade?

Thanks for your help both, I called Apple tech support and spoke to a really helpful chap called Andrea who helped me out. Now got my Master file sorted and am trying Vimeo upload again.
Just to clarify points for people out there with the same issue:
    First steps
    - Ensure background rendering is turned off in preferences
    - Delete project and events render files
    - If upgraded to Mavericks then go to FCPX in finder under applications hit buttons 'CMD' and 'I' together and tick the 'prevent App Nap' box.
    Next Steps
I had already done all of this when Apple Tech spoke to me so we discussed the message 'Quicktime -50' and what it meant. It wasnt a purely generic error message but was not detailed enough to point to one specific issue. This problem had occurred in previous years (so Mavericks not wholly to blame) and patches were issued over the years by Apple to help resolve some of the problems.
The message essentially is indicating that there is a problem somewhere with the media in some way shape or form.
My export went to 8% then failed. Apple's answer was that the project settings were corrupted in some way.
So what they suggested (so simple I could kick myself) was to select all the media files by 'CMD + A' then copy them 'CMD + C' then create and open a new project timeline, and then paste in 'CMD + V'.
Then we tried export again this time to a master file with some settings detailed by Apple.
The difference now was it got to 40% then failed but due to a different reason 'error -1 frame 10124 error'
At last we get past the project issues and into the event media issues, it seems that when I loaded the compact flash last night, the iMac kept ejecting the reader so had to copy files over quickly and seems that some of the file clip I used although showed on the viewer, didn't seem to have loaded all the correct media, so selecting this clip frame 10124 on the viewer I found that it showed as red on the frame row which implied an issue. So I simply bladed it off and deleted it.
Then I reran the export to Master file and it worked, though jumping from 40% to 100% complete was a shock to me!
Now am trying the export to Vimeo - hope this helps some of you out there. Worst case pick up the phone to Apple and speak to the Final Cut Pro guys they can help.
    best wishes,
    Louis B

I have 10.0.3, why can I no longer export to vimeo?  also, my quicktime movies are not compressed, they export as the whole file.  this didn't happen before the update.  do i have to now get compressor?  help.

You should buy Compressor it never fails. It is a must have. I have given up using this buggy Share function and use Compressor all the time.

  • Exporting to Vimeo with Compressor 4.1.2

I have created a custom setting to export to Vimeo, including my email and password.
However when applying the setting to the films to be compressed, the password information is missing and it seems like I have to input it manually for each file. What am I doing wrong?

Some sign in information is retained. You must drag the group not the setting onto the file.
The job action is retained. If you select the job in the pane, not the setting, the action will appear.
The username and password is retained as long as the application is open. Once the application is closed and re-opened the job action is retained but the password is not. That has to be entered in the job action in custom settings each time the application is opened.

  • IMovie won't export to Vimeo

Trying to upload a 720p movie -  data appears to be moving - Activity Monitor shows 5 GB of data uploaded, iMovie never finishes. Exported movie to desktop, then uploaded with Safari. 11 other movies exported to Vimeo with iMovie prior to this attempt.

Occasionally this happens with Facebook, YouTube or Vimeo. With YouTube the problem has more often been related to the Login credentials but occasionally will fail to upload like what you saw. Unfortunately the only work around is EXACTLY what you did, export to desktop and upload through a web browser. From reading other messages on the iMovie Discussion Group, I have not seen one original poster write back to the group with a fix or steps they took to re-enable the uploads through iMovie. It seems like it's more often the case it works, and works, then it doesn't work. And fails to work after that.

  • I am trying to export my project to an avi file, but its only exporting the audio, help?

The above was a quote and AME is not necessary.  From the Timeline selected Ctrl-M brings up the Export window.  There select "AVI" and under Video Codec below select "None"

Try exporting a Master File with settings of Web Hosting and H.264. If it exports successfully, see if a manual upload works.

So it is cutting off the end at 59 minutes?  How large is the file that is being exported?  You may be running up against a file size limitation.

  • Exporting into Vimeo error message.

When I try to export into vimeo, I get an error message saying I have disk full. How do I fix this?

On what drive do you store your projects and events? How much free space is on that drive?
When you export, FCP writes a file to a Shared Items folder in your event folder. If there is insufficient space for that file and for overhead, you could get an error message like that,

  • IMovie won't let me export my video HELP PLEASE QUICK

So I have the iPad 3, 64gb Wifi + Cellular and I have iMovie on my iPad. So I've made a 30 second video, with no music and I clicked to export it on my camera roll and it's said "An Error Occurred During Export" or something along the lines, and so I tried doing that with the other options, Facebook, Vimeo, YouTube and all said they could not export. All the footage was taken on my iPad and its not working. I then downloaded another app and it did the same thing. I'm so frustrated. Yes I have gone through my privacy settings and turned on iMovie it was already on. Yes I have done everything everyone else has done, but this is not working. can someone please help me !!!!.

    Hello RamoziummOxide,
Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.  I would also be concerned if I could not export my project I made in iMovie.  You have done several good troubleshooting steps.  At this point, I would troubleshoot the iMovie app in general:
iOS: Troubleshooting applications purchased from the App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1702
There are a couple of things to keep in mind regarding that article.  Step 4 guides in you restarting the application, but I would quit any open application at that point.  Also step 6 states to reinstall the application, but before you do that, you will want to backup the content of iMovie to iTunes before you do that because your movie will be deleted if you delete the application.  I would skip this step if you are not able to export to iTunes.  You can find steps to export your movie to iTunes here:
    Send to iTunes
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/ipad/1.4/index.html#knac789785
I hope this helps!  I know how much time and work goes into iMovie projects.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • Artefacts when exporting to Vimeo HD preset

I have a video made up of GoPro footage. I have edited all this together and delivered a reasonable SD (640x480px, 4:3) output video using After Effects, Premiere Pro 5.5 and the Adobe Media Encoder (all of which is rather neat). So far so perfect.
    The Problem
When I try to export the same footage, suitably edited, using the "Vimeo HD" preset (1280px by 720px, 16:9) , I'm getting what I'd describe as unacceptable "interlacing artefacts" around the edges of things. That's the problem I'm looking for help with.
    Background
The footage from the cameras is 1280x960, some 25fps and some 30fps. This does not appear to be an issue as I get Adobe to blend it on output.
My footage is edited into hierachical sequences, with the final "master" sequence having the same settings as the native GoPro footage (1280x960, 4:3). This sequence I can export straight to the PP5.5 Vimeo SD preset and it's perfect. I set "maximum render quality" and "use frame blending".
Next, to make the HD version I:
create a new sequence, with dimensions set for Vimeo's HD, 1280x720
drop the above "master" sequence into the new seqence, so it has 4:3 footage in a 16:9 container
scrub through the video, altering the position of it so that my footage still works in the new format without black borders or a silly crop. This is just a bit of "motion effect" with keyframes.
The result renders and plays perfectly at 100% in the PP5.5 monitor window. So far so good.
Now I select "export", use the "Vimeo  HD" preset, and export the footage. The result is correctly cropped, but it has what looks like interlace artefacts on it.
I first tried increasing the various bit rates etc, and trying all the other settings to see if I could get rid of the artefacts, but nothing worked. I googled around, nothing selsible there; I can't even find anything on people using one set of footage for multiple aspect ratios in PP, although it must be a common problem. Finally I came here and looked at the FAQ and did a search, still can't find anything, so here I am. Anyone any ideas?
If it plays perfectly in the monitor but doesn't export correctly, then the problem's definitely in the export step, so it has to be one of those settings, but I can't figure out which or why.

    Hi,
    1) First Rule of Exporting from Premiere or Adobe Media Encoder
    DONT USE THE PRESETS
    2) 2nd to 10th rules of Exporting from Premiere or Adobe Media Encoder
    DONT USE THE PRESETS
They make absolutely no sense and all they'll give you is a premature heart attack.
    Do This:
    1) Go to VIMEO (or where ever you wanna upload the stuff)
    2) Take the time and READ their Specs
    3) Enter Adobe Media Encoder (Which is a VERY FINE Encoder) and set it up the way the host describes.
That gives me perfect results every time
I find AME the best encoder out there and it is the ONLY encoder making sure my material stays pristine...
The Presets are the devil and you dont wanna use those ;-)

  • HDV 720p24 Export / Conversion Problems - Help!

    Greetings all,
So I'm pulling my hair out over this problem.  I have some footage that was captured using the following settings from a JVC camera:
    Apple HDV 720p24, 1280 x 720 (1248 x 702) Millions
16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Left, 48.000kHz
    16-bit Integer (Little Endian),Right, 48.000kHz
    FPS: 23.98
    Data Rate: 19.89
I converted to ProRes, and brought it into Final Cut.  All is well.  The footage looks GREAT in final cut... I was able to do my edits and all that fluff and now I'm trying to export to an H.264 file for Vimeo / YouTube.
However, I CANNOT get something that works.  I've done so many tests at this point its rediculous.  I've read through all the forums I could and still nothing is helping.
My main problem is crazy jagged edges over all the video (some call them mouse teeth).  The audio is fine though... at least I got that right.
I've tried de-interlacing but it didn't help.  I don't get why IN FINAL CUT the video looks so pristene, but any sort of export (even a 'send to compressor') yields a bunch of jagged and pixalated mumbo-jumbo.
    Please Help!

Thanks for the tips guys!  Those shortcuts were helpful - and I was able to confirm that my settings indeed matched.
I think I fixed my issue though!  My problem was in my render settings.
    Sequence--> Settings--> Render Control
Mine was set by default to 33% for some reason.  I've done many projects in FC, but this was my first with the JVC HDV 720p stuff - so i'm guessing when FC created the session to match the video, it changed that setting as well.  I bumped it back up to 100% and all is well.
I'm rather surprised though that FC won't render at 100% when you export or send to compressor or anything of that sort.  So anyone having the same "jagged pixelation" on output - thats probably the issue.
Thanks again guys.  I wouldn't have stumbled upon that w/out your direction.

  • Quality, Export, and Compression help (pic included)

I'm working on an edit of my RTW trip and am struggling to figure out some quality issues. Video was captured by 3 cameras (a JVC everio, a GoPro Hero 2, and a Droid 4). All record in HD (720 or 1080). I figured I would use the lowest common denominator and converted all the video in MPEG streamclip to be 1280x720 HD, using Apple Intermediate Codec and 100% quality. I have the whole timeline basically finished in FCE, but I'm trying to refine it now and I'm really bothered by the quality. It doesn't look HD at all...it looks really pixelated. Below is a screenshot of my viewer, which is at 100%. Note the edges where the blue arrows point-they're all jagged.
It looks decent at 100% but that is not even 1/6th of my screen. If I go up to 200% it looks like crap. Is this just because I'm editing on a 26" iMac and my screen is so big that I need 1080p or 4K to look good at full screen? When I cropped the 100% screenshot in Preview I noticed that it is 640x360 pixels...exactly half of 1280x720 like I would expect. Why is that? How do I get the quality to be like it should? Am I losing it in MPEG Streamclip or Final Cut? I haven't even started the export battle, which always infuriates me with how bad the quality comes out if the video is a reasonable file size (This video is 5m40s, I feel like 100MB or less is reasonable for streaming right?)
Thanks a ton for the help. I really want to finish this edit this week but want to make sure I do my trip of a lifetime justice.

1.) Any advice for resizing the 1080 clips?
Go to the first clip in your timeline that is 1080 and looks incorrectly sized. Double click on that clip in the timeline, you will see the clip open in the Viewer. Once it does that, in the Viewer, click on the Motion tab, and then adjust the Scale paddle until the frame is just filled. Once that is done, type Command + C to copy the clip and the settings adjustment you made.
Now go to the next instance of a 1080 clip in your timeline and click on it to select it. If there a bunch together you can hold down the shift key while you click on the clips and select as many as you want at a time. Once you have made the selection, type Option + V to paste the attributes from the clip you had just copied. The Paste Attributes window should open, and you want to check the Basic Motion box and keep everything else unchecked. Then click OK, and the clips you had selected should now all be resized.
2.) Some of the clips still have blurry frames. Now that I have the sequence totally edited and don't need to trim/move clips all the time, if I use the raw source video (not optimized for Final Cut via MPEG streamclip and the Apple Intermediate Codec) in Final Cut, will the quality be better or will it be the same/not work at all?
Final Cut Express will only work with HD material in Apple Intermediate codec. You were smart to convert the footage prior to editing. Are the clips that look blurry the 1080 clips? At any rate, you may need to render your timeline, see if any colored render bars are showing on the timeline (rendering will occur automatically when you export your finished movie).
