Export version : sizing problems

For sending print files to a lab, I usually click "Export Version" and set the dimensions in cm and at 300dpi. I then have a couple of photoshop actions to create a border & keyline.
Recently, since Aperture 2, these actions havn't been working.
This is because, although the versions are supposed to export at 300 dpi, when opened in Photoshop they actually show 72dpi. (they do have the correct number of pixels).
Similarly, if I open them in Preview, and try to print, it thinks the dimensions are enormous, because it is set to 72dpi.
I've tried creating a new export size, but it still always does 72dpi.
has anyone experienced this problem yet?
It's just a bit of a bore to have to write new photoshop actions because of this glitch.

I just realized something - The size as to which people are viewing the video is correct (720x480). But when I view the video, it's at 854x457. Why would this be???

  • Problem exporting versions in original size

    hi!
with Aperture 3 when exporting versions in original size, I obtain 400xYYY pixels (images constrained to 400x400) showing impossibility to respect the original size.
attempting to solve the problem I have exported selecting limited wider sizes (like <4000x4000) to allow the program to keep the higher resolution. It doesn't work because then all images are forced to be exported in 4000x4000.
    anybody has the solution?
    thank you. david

    Welcome to the forum.
Go to Aperture>Presets>Image Export, select the export preset you are using and make sure that it's on 'original size' and not on 'fit within'.

  • Problem exporting versions

Anyone know why i can't export versions from aperture 2 on a new imac? Exporting masters is no problem; and I'm trying to export the versions in the same way, ie, file/export/version/s but the little dialogue box doesn't even appear for me to choose where to export the versions to. Must be something very simple I've overlooked but grateful for any help.
    Ta, lucas

Are you by any chance using export as jpeg to fit in 1024 by 1024? I was and found the same problem but found that other sizes work OK including custom ones I set up (25% of original in my case)

  • Exporting full sized version of an image file

When I drag a photo out of Aperture it exports a smaller version of the file. How do I export a full sized file of a photo. What I actually want to be able to do is to export all the photos in a project as full sized files.

When you drag an image out of Aperture you are actually getting the preview not the full resolution image.
Do get the full quality version select the image you want to export and go to File->Export->Version .
You can select from a number of already created presets of you can create your own if none of the default ones meet your needs.
See [Exporting Your Images|http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/#chapter=20%26sect ion=0] in the user manual.

  • Problem Exporting versions ---I  get double exposures

To make calendars for Christmas gifts, yesterday I made a file on my Desktop to export images into. As in the past, my choices were: Export -> Versions - Jpeg Original 300. Problem: This time, all of the photos exported as double exposures - the double in all was the same, a photo from another project, appearing in the upper left corner, about 1/2 size. I first noticed this problem with a blog posting of 2 photos I did on Dec 6th. `Didn't think much of it then, and didn't do export any more versions until yesterday.
Background: I use Aperture 3, and it has been updated to 3.1.1 I tried Repairing the database and Rebuilding the database. Neither solved the problem. I considered moving the Album of Calendar photos into a whole new Library, but didn't know how to move them and maintain their size, without the Export Versions step - and hence having the same problem) F.Y.I. When I exported a Master, instead of a version, there was no double exposure.
Not one to give up and anxious to get the calendars ordered, this AM I went at it again ... same problem, but I found one way around it. i.e. When I use Export -> Version -> Original Size* --- there are no double exposures. (*vs Original Size 300) So, I'm back to the calendars adding photos via this route.
All explanations and problem solving suggestions will be appreciated. THANKS.

I didn't intentionally set up that watermark, and don't recall ever playing around to do so. But it was definitely there! Thanks to you, the problem is now solved. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Happy Holidays!
    Noreen
P.S. If I ever want to set up a watermark, I now have a sense of how to do it ... somehow scaling the watermark to be smaller and less invasive!

  • Exporting quality image problems

    Hello all!
Hello, and thanks in advance for helping me out!
I am fairly new to Aperture 2... When I exported versions through Border FX, with a copy write signature, I chose to export "JPEG - original size". When I looked at the photo through quick look everything was perfect, but when I opened the photo to take a look at the result (in preview) the picture had lost an incredible amount of sharpness. As a matter of fact, the exported version had lost any focus of the picture I see in the aperture window.
Surely this is not normal, and I am guessing there are better settings to export. My two questions are...
    1. Considering I do want my signature with the photo, so what would be the best settings to get a sharp focused jpeg?
    2. Is this just a product of looking at the photo through preview? I wouldnt think so, but I thought It might be an answer...
    Thanks again!
    Nathan

I am having a similar problem whenever I export an editied RAW image to JPEG. I've set the quality all the way up and toyed with the color modes, but nothing works!!
I'm so discouraged about using Aperture.
here is a screenshot. Look at the photo on the left and notice how the details are clearly more defined than on the right.

  • In aperture 3.4.5, I get unsupported file error when exporting version of photo I've edited using plugins?

In aperture 3.4.5, I get unsupported file error when exporting version of photo I've edited using plugins. I have try reinstalling aperture three times, deleting plists a few times, reinstalling plugins, restarting my MacBook Pro many times. Everything I've tried may fix the problem for a very short while and I can export a few photos before it returns. The problem happens with topaz and photomatrix pro plugins after I edited and try to export version.

I had the same problem with the Photomatix plug-in and this solved it for me. I realised it only happened with Photomatix and not other plug-ins so I checked where the plug-ins were installed. The Photomatix plug-in was installed in
    ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/
where ~ is the home location for the current user account. All the other plug-ins however were installed in
    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins/
which is the location that makes them available to all user accounts on your Mac. Moving the Photomatix plug-in to this location solved the problem for me.
Note that the Library directory under the first location is normally hidden, to get to it hold down the Option (Alt) key and select it from the Finder Go menu.

  • Poor image quality on exported version

I am trying to export versions of my photos to a folder on my external drive. Every time I do this the resulting jpg is washed out and has poor resolution + a ton of noise. The resulting image is substantially lighter than the images in my aperture window, yet the histogram does not indicate that the images should be that light or washed out.
The images are all starting as RAW images. The export settings are for image quality 12, 300 dpi, sRGB, original jpg. I have onscreen proofing turned on and set to sRGB. My print lab said that the image quality could be 10, but when they looked so horrible I bumped them up.
I had Aperture for a long time before upgrading to Aperture 2 in March. From March to August I did not have any problems, so this is a more recent problem. I have not yet upgraded to Snow Leopard. Please help!!! Thanks!!!

  • Error: exporting versions is done using RAW

    Hi,
I'm having a strange problem which I couldn't find in the different communities.
My workflow: As usual, I'm importing my pictures in RAW and process it in Aperture (3.1.2). Now, I wanted to export the pictures in JPEG. To do so, I right-clicked on the desired project, chose "Export --> Versions", and in the export presets "JPG - Original size".
The export was working fine (the folders were created), but the pictures exported were no JPEG but RAW (file format CR2, I have a Canon 500D), and - hardly surprising - without any of my my adjustments. The result is the same whether I'm exporting individual pictures or whole projects, and even changing the presets for the export (e.g. TIFF) doesn't change anything; Aperture insists on RAW being the file format of the exported pictures.
And just to answer the most likely question: Yes, I've chosen "Export --> Versions" and not "Export --> Masters".  :-)
Anyone has an idea what I've done wrong?
    Kind regards
    Dirk

    Hi Kirby, hi Ernie,
thanks for your help... after a lot of trying, I found at least the reason for the error.  :-)
The Aperture library is situated on a NAS, and the image files are stored within the library (that was the import setting as well). It seems that Aperture has got some troubles with that situation.  In the browser, the badge "the referenced image master is offline" is displayed for all the images. Strange enough, because all the image masters are stored in the library (the NAS is online as well), and I can access the library.
It seems that with this status, Aperture can't export properly. After some trying found out that I found out that if duplicate the version of the image, Aperture doesn't think any more that the referenced image master is offline. When I export this version, everything is fine.
I don't really understand what's going on, but the question has shifted somehow - no export problem any more, but "How can I import images to a Aperture library situated on a NAS without creating the problem mentioned above".
    Dirk
    PS:
English is not my first language, so I apologize for any errors.

  • Exporting versions won't work

Must be something simple that I am missing but when I try to export a version, I do not get the next pop up screen. Simply nothing happens. I am able to export master files with no problem. Do I need to toggle a box in preferences somewhere or what am i doing wrong??

The export options I documented for my own use are as follow:
    1. Select Closed Stacks
    Export Masters: masters only
Export Versions: top image in stack, whether master or promoted version
    2. Select All Items In Open Stack
    Export Masters: masters only
    Export Versions: masters and versions
    3. Select Only Versions in Open Stack
    Export Masters: masters only
    Export Versions: selected versions only
See if one of those helps with your exporting of versions.

  • Cannot Export Versions with Aperture 3.3

After upgrading to Aperture 3.3, I lost the ability to Export Versions of my files. Exporting Originals works just fine, but I need to I export jpegs for my work. What I end up getting now is a jpg with a totally black image. The metadata is intact and the size and jpeg format are correct, but the image is just black. I have already tried Repairing Permissions and Repairing the Database in Aperture with no change. I have not yet tried "Rebuild Database" but I do not think that is the problem because I am able to Export images from my Aperture Library files using iPhoto without a problem. Please help.

I am exporting with a preset that I have set up. Here are the settings:
    Image Format: JPEG
    Image Quality: 10
Size To: Fit Within (Pixels) Width 1024 Height 683
    DPI: 132
    (No Gamma Adjust)
    Color Profile: Use Source Profile
    (Black Pint Compensation NOT CHECKED)
    (Show Watermark NOT CHECKED)
Okay, the good news is that I tried other settings and it worked. Tiff works just fine and exporting the preset jpeg setting (full size, half size) works just fine. I then deleted the export setting mentioned above and created a new one, but it does not work.
So, I am almost there. I appreciate your suggestions so far as some of them worked. Any more ideas?

  • JPEG export version size?

When working with images shot as jpeg why are the exported jpeg version sizes different than the original image sizes? I've put my image export preset at the highest image quality(12). So shouldn't that mean that the exported version of an unchanged (no adjustments made) image should be exactly the same size as the camera originally captured it? If someone can explain to me how version sizing works I'd greatly appreciate it.
Mac Pro 2 Duo Core Intel Xeon Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    Intel P4 3.0ghz   Windows XP

Jpeg uses a compress method that depending on the quality chosen converts similar adjacent colors to one. These groups of colors are compressed in squares, and can be easily seen when the quality of the jpeg is very low.
Every time you open and save a jpeg file in Photoshop or other editing software the compression algorithm will compress it a little bit more at the same quality settings, so even at the highest you'll be loosing some information on the image.
When for example you open a jpeg file and edit it to get more detail in shadows the new saved file could be bigger in size than the previous one at the same quality settings because the algorithm find fewer similar color groups.

  • When I try to export a photo to my desktop I get the followiing error message "Export Versions Complete with Errors" any ideas why?

when I try to export a photo to my desktop I get the followiing error message "Export Versions Complete with Errors" any ideas why?

Have you tried to export different images as a test to see if it is related to the one you are getting the error on? Also try to export to a different folder other then the Desktop, again to see if the problem is connected to that folder.
Another thing to do is run the Aperture Library First Aid on the library. Hold the option and command keys down while you start Aperture. First run the Permission Repair and see if that helps. If not quit Aperture and restart and run the Library Repair and try.
Post back if you still have problems

  • Cannot export versions

Using latest version (3.5.1) of Aperture on Mavericks, all latest updates installed on MBP Mid 2012, export versions stopped working completly after succesfuly exporting cca 1500 images.
Originals I'm trying to export are RAWs (Canon EOS60D .CR2, latest firmware on the camera), referenced images on local drive.
Have tried different locations for export, fixing permissions on Aperture Library, reboot the machine, nothing helped. Have tried multiple and single image export. Wouldn't suspect low memory, 16GB installed.
I'm trying to export full size JPGs with into custom folder name with version filename. Have tried on several aperture libraries, none works. I'm stuck
Searching console for "Aperture" shows following message:

Thanks in advance for any idea on how to make export verions work again.

You seem to have already tried a lot of the right things.
You didn't mention 'Repair Database' so I would try that option next (as always, ensure you have a good backup). 'Repair Database' is accessed from the same screen as 'Repair Permissions.
If that option doesn't help then, my next step would be to test it with a new user account.
First creat the new account from system preferences.
Then log out of your current user account and log in with the new one.
Run Aperture from that account (you'll get a new empty library so will have to import a few photos).
What this lets you do is see if the issue is system-wide (for all users, even though you may be the only user) or thw issue is localised to your account.
If it still doesn't work with that new account, it's probably system wide. If it does work, the problem is localised to your user account, and there are additional troubleshooting steps you can follow, like removing presets and preferences. See HT3805 for trouble shooting basics and how to preform these.
The fact that it stopped working after such a large export is possibly interesting. Exported versions is a peice of metadata that Aperture tracks, so it's easy to imagine how a small glitch may have caused a number of problems. However, repair database should sort any minor database problems out.
Have you rebooted your machine since that export? Perhaps a temporary chache needs clearing.
    Andy
