Export versions into project
For a set of photos I want to be able to change the color profile from Adobe RGB to sRGB, then upload them into MobileMe, email them to friends, etc.
I'm trying to find the most efficient way to do this. Ideally I would select the photos, then export them to a new or existing album, and change the color profile during export. After export to the album, I could do some sharpening and upload to MobileMe or web, email, etc.
I am having trouble doing this, as I cannot find out how to export versions into an album. I believe AP only allows me to export into a project / folder. With this approach, I believe I will have multiple files of the same photo, which is not my preference.
Can I export versions into an album? If not, how can I have multiple versions of the same file - one with AdobeRGB, the other with sRGB?
Thank you.

You can't. You can only change the color space on export or by round tripping to another application and changing it there. Either method involves creating a new master of the image. AFAIK there is no way to assign a different color space within Aperture.
It's really a moot point though: images are automatically converted to sRGB when uploaded to MobilMe, and you can set the export settings (in Preferences) to anything you like when using Aperture's email function. So you don't need multiple versions (in this case masters) in your library in order to accomplish your goal.

'Video Filter Missing' Exporting AE CS4 project into Premiere Pro CS4 project
Hey guys,
I am new to Premiere and AE, and I just made a short little intro for my current project in After Effects using a couple different effects and such. When I go to export my AE project and make it into a Premiere Project file it will not let me open the project properly, it says:
D:\Premiere Projects\AFC Title2.prproj
Video Filter missing: AE.ADBE Exposure2
Video Filter missing: AE.ADBE Glo2
Video Filter missing: AE.CC Particle World
How do I fix this? Can I get the video filters for Premiere so that it recognizes them?
Thanks,
AndrewAre you planning on editing the material you're moving from AE to PPro? Not that you can't, but that's sort of a backwards workflow (ie. usually you edit in PPro, and then move the sequence to AE for effects, etc.). Or are you just trying to export from PPro?
Do you have the Production Premium bundle? If so, you could use Dynamic Link to put your AE comp into a PPro timeline, without having to worry about missing filters. You could also render from AE, and then import the rendered movie into PPro.
Finally, you can make (most of) the Cycore effects work in Premiere; this includes Particle World. Simply copy the AEX plugins from the After Effects program folder, into the Premiere Pro program folder (you'll have to dig into a couple of subfolders to find the effects). You'll then have access to most of them in Premiere Pro, though they don't all work the same in the PPro interface. The other two are, I believe, AE-only plugins, and are locked to that program--they won't work in PPro, no matter what. -
Hi, Can i export an Imovie project with special effects as a quick time movie then import into final cut express keeping the special effects?
Absolutely. Go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie (do NOT use QuickTime Conversion). Make sure you check the Self-Contained box. The export will be an exact copy of your Sequence, complete with any filters or other effects you've added. Import the self-contained movie back into the project (or another project) if needed.

How to tack and export versions.
As the title says I can't figure out a smooth way to export a serie of versions (to be burned or mailed)that exist besides the masters in a project. When I select all the images and ask for "export versions" it doesn't work like that: the masters are exported too Also, when I try to select manualy with a \ they are tacked with a 5 stars rating. I don't understand that either. Could somebody help me out?
There isn't one built in, but copy the following into Script Editor. In Aperture, open all the Stacks and select the last image. Then run the script.
tell application "Aperture" to activate
tell application "System Events"
if UI elements enabled then
tell process "Aperture"
repeat 10 times
keystroke "\" using command down
delay 2
key code 123
delay 1
end repeat
end tell
else
tell application "System Preferences"
activate
set current pane to pane "com.apple.preference.universalaccess"
display dialog "UI element scripting is not enabled. Check \"Enable access for assistive devices\""
end tell
end if
end tell

Motion is constantly crashing when exporting a huge project
Hi Folks,
I just started with Motion a few weeks ago.
After making a lot of rookie mistakes, I think I got the basics now.
Motion opened up a new world of working with videos for me.
But I reached a point, where playing around does not help any more.
I need some advise from a skilled Motion designer.
My question:
Generally - What are the limits of a Motion 4 project regarding size and complexity and how I can expand it.
In particular - How can I produce a video of my really big motion project.
My small problem:
When working in Motion, I have to watch the memory usage (I use "istat menus" for this).
When memory becomes almost used up, I save the project then close and re-open Motion.
In the meantime, I have a detailed knowledge of the actions that I should avoid to maximize
the time between the close & re-open actions.
This helps reducing Motion crashes. I think Motion has a bug with memory handling somehow.
Although working with Motion this way is exhausting, this is only my small problem.
My big problem:
Motion does not export (render) my project. I don't mind waiting 24 hours for the result, but there is no result.
Motion 4 always crashes after some time. Typically after 4 to 5 hours. The whole computer gets stuck,
the only thing I can do is recycle power. I can not show the result of my work. All I can do is blame "the software".
For this I need a solution, and I need it ASAP!
What I did so far:
I tried everything. Really…
I do not run any other software parallel with Motion. No Mail, no Safari, no nothing -> this helps a lot while editing !
Disabling render options motion blur, shadows, reflections and DOF helped in the beginning when the project was not finished.
Reducing quality helped in the beginning but I did not tried it again because the results are unusable.
Trashing preferences with "option-CMD Park+Ride" did not help.
Deleting the preference file did help making the software more responsive. Almost no beachballs after that.
Repairing permissions…. Checking filesystem… playing with preferences… nothing helped.
Then I was at a point, where I was mentally prepared for the ultimate step:
I wiped the hard-drive and installed Snow Leopard and FCP from the original DVDs.
Did not help. (BTW this takes a whole working day and half of the night).
Of course, I always apply the latest updates and patches.
Last night, I ordered a new iMAC (27", Quadcore, 8GB Ram) to be sure it is not a hardware defect.
Unfortunately its ETA is 2 weeks.
The machine I am actually using: 24" iMac 3,06MHz core2 duo with 4GB of RAM and GT130.
About my project:
length: 42 seconds
Format: 720p50
Contents: approximately 10 greenscreen videoclips 720p50 ( 10 to 20 seconds long) with Primate RT filter, 100 images (PDF), 500 rectangles.
Camera: one camera with 8 non-overlapping framing behaviors.
plugins: some filters from noise industries and FxFactory. No dubious untested 3-rd party plugins.
Untested ideas:
- Output parts of the project and assemble them in final cut. (I got this idea 1 second ago while writing this post). Anyone tried this?
- Single-stepping through the project and capturing a screenshot of every single frame (42*50 = 2100 oh my god!) Maybe by using a macro?
- Using a new computer with faster graphic-board and more RAM. As far as I know, Motion is a 32bit application and can not address more than 4 GByte of RAM. Also it will not use more than one CPU core. Will it help anyway?
- Installing some secret Pro-App beta-patches to fix Motion. Are there any? If so, how to get them?
- Searching for some hidden file that lists the filter, action or object that caused the last crash. Maybe I only have to rearrange or remove something to make it work perfectly.
Anyone out there who has experience with complex Motion-projects ?
Byebye and Tschüß
ManfredI gave it a try and replaced all *.pdf files by *.psd or *.jpg files, keyed all video clips outside of Motion and replaced the original footage with the assigned keyers, despillers and color-correctors by ready-to-use ProRes4444 files. If this changed anything, then it was very subtle. Without "shadow", "reflections" and "depth of field" applied, I can export the project. This takes 40 minutes or so.
With this three things checked, Motion crashes (see below). The final export also needs to have lights enabled and maybe motion blur.
My big hope is, that the 27" iMac can handle it because of its 8GB Ram and the 4870 Graphics (arrives on Feb,10 thumbs up). The iMac I am using now has only GT130 and 4GB Ram, maybe this is too weak? Otherwise I have to split the project into pieces an assemble them in final cut. There are no cuts, the whole thing is one flow which makes this idea difficult.
Here the latest crash report (although I dont think it makes any sense to anyone but hope dies last):

Problem Exporting versions ---I get double exposures
To make calendars for Christmas gifts, yesterday I made a file on my Desktop to export images into. As in the past, my choices were: Export -> Versions - Jpeg Original 300. Problem: This time, all of the photos exported as double exposures - the double in all was the same, a photo from another project, appearing in the upper left corner, about 1/2 size. I first noticed this problem with a blog posting of 2 photos I did on Dec 6th. `Didn't think much of it then, and didn't do export any more versions until yesterday.
Background: I use Aperture 3, and it has been updated to 3.1.1 I tried Repairing the database and Rebuilding the database. Neither solved the problem. I considered moving the Album of Calendar photos into a whole new Library, but didn't know how to move them and maintain their size, without the Export Versions step - and hence having the same problem) F.Y.I. When I exported a Master, instead of a version, there was no double exposure.
Not one to give up and anxious to get the calendars ordered, this AM I went at it again ... same problem, but I found one way around it. i.e. When I use Export -> Version -> Original Size* --- there are no double exposures. (*vs Original Size 300) So, I'm back to the calendars adding photos via this route.
All explanations and problem solving suggestions will be appreciated. THANKS.I didn't intentionally set up that watermark, and don't recall ever playing around to do so. But it was definitely there! Thanks to you, the problem is now solved. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Happy Holidays!
Noreen
P.S. If I ever want to set up a watermark, I now have a sense of how to do it ... somehow scaling the watermark to be smaller and less invasive! -
i am MOVING my imported images from my MacBook Pro to my Mac Pro and i /exported/ them by project as VERSIONS via Firewire to the Mac Pro and then imported them into the proper project in the Mac Pro Aperture database.
is this sufficiently accurate for me to go ahead and DELETE the images in the MacBook Pro database and to delete the imported folders that reside on my Mac Pro desktop?
also, is there a way to export the projects collectively as a library and to keep this as a backup in case i run into some kind of problem?
THANKSThere are two problems here:
1) Aperture does not modify its "original" files on export. Meaning with the JPEG files that Aperture will NOT modify them, and it will not write IPTC data to them. It exports the XMP sidecar files, as you're seeing.
2) Adobe will NOT read IPTC sidecar files for non-RAW images. So if it sees a JPEG file, it will not look for an XMP sidecar file. It just doesn't read them, so the data won't be imported by Lightroom.
If you are using JPEG files, then probably the solution is to check the box in Aperture to tell it to write XMP metadata to the original files. They're not RAW files, so they're not proprietary in any way, so writing the XMP metadata to the JPEG files is probably pretty safe. -
How can I convert an version into a master?
I just upgraded to Ap3 from Ap2. I have lost the reference to master files on hundreds of my images. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which master images disappeared. I have tried all three options for repairing the library and they have failed. I have never segregated versions and masters in different locations--they've always been in the library. So, I think my next best move is to convert all of my versions into masters. Is there a way to do this?
You'll be better off tying to find the masters and correcting the problem. If you don't have the masters you don't have the versions either, all you have are the previews.
Depending on your preferences settings for the size and quality of the previews you may get something expectable for viewing on your screen or the web but that would be it.
Also if all you have are the previews then you won't be able to export them, you'll have to drag them out of Aperture into a folder on your HD. -

Error when exporting my imovie project
Hi there,
Everytime I try to export my iMovie project I get the following error:
“Unable to prepare project for publishing. The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-50)”
As proposed in other discussions I have optimized every single clip. However the error is still popping up. Would be much appreciated if anyone could help me.
Many thanks in advance.
Jodok
Can someone please help.
Many ThanksOK I suggest that you right-click on your Event and see if iMovie offers to optimize your clips. This will convert them to Apple Intermediate Codec. It will place the originals in a folder called Movies/iMovie Original Movies, so you will still have a copy of the originals.
You export should go smoothly after optimizing.
If you do not optimize, then iMovie has to optimize on the fly, during the SHARE. This places a huge load on your computer. It is better to go ahead and optimize separately.
H.264 uses Group of Pictures compression. In this compression scheme, there is one full frame for every (say) 24 frames of video. The remaining frames are partial frames that contain info like what has changed since the previous frame, direction of motion, etc. Obviously, this is not good for editing, because if you edit out the full frame, the remaining frames are useless. So before editing or sharing, all these partial frames have to be resolved into full frames.
Apple Intermediate Codec is a full frame codec. Each frame has some compression, like the full frames in h.264, but all frames are full and they are independent of each other. You can cut wherever you like, and you can apply slow motion without worrying about where you start.
In Final Cut Pro X, you would use ProRes 422, another full frame codec.
You should expect Apple Intermediate Codec to be about 10X larger than the equivalent h.264 clip. -
IMovie on iOS 8 crashes whenever I try to export the video project to iTunes
I need to transfer several iMovie projects from iPad to iMac to free lots of disk space.
But whenever I atempt to export an iMovie project to iTunes, the iMovie iOS app crashes.
Is there any other way how to transfer the project file?I'm sorry, but it still doesn't work. I deleted all Apple software off my computer and redownleaded the latest version of iTunes, but when I tried to sign in I still got this error:

Poor image quality on exported version
I am trying to export versions of my photos to a folder on my external drive. Every time I do this the resulting jpg is washed out and has poor resolution + a ton of noise. The resulting image is substantially lighter than the images in my aperture window, yet the histogram does not indicate that the images should be that light or washed out.
The images are all starting as RAW images. The export settings are for image quality 12, 300 dpi, sRGB, original jpg. I have onscreen proofing turned on and set to sRGB. My print lab said that the image quality could be 10, but when they looked so horrible I bumped them up.
I had Aperture for a long time before upgrading to Aperture 2 in March. From March to August I did not have any problems, so this is a more recent problem. I have not yet upgraded to Snow Leopard. Please help!!! Thanks!!!Hi
a. make a DiskImage first and test this with Apple DVD-player.
(File menu and down "Make a DiskImage")
b. I only use streamingDV - no .m4v or like (may be it works - I don't know)
else
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides. Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named.
com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.

Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !

How do I export an iMovie project on to my iPhone 5 so I can upload to YouTube ?
I've been having issues on trying to easily export my iMovie project ,it's my first time using iMovie and I'm having trouble and I need help!
Command + drag your project from within iMovie onto your external drive and you will be asked if you want to move just the project or consolidate your media by moving the events etc as well.
Type "Consolidate" or "Move Project to External Drive" into iMovie Help for more information.

Paste Link 'Outline Level' from Excel into Project get error
I am trying to generate a MS Project schedule based on linked data in an Excel spreadsheet. I cannot get the summary project tasks to appear with their sub-tasks. When I try to paste link the Outline Level into Project, I get and error that states
"The paste link operation failed. You cannot paste into a field that project calculates automatically." However, I can manually type the Outline Level into the project and it changes the task-subtask relationships as it should. How can I get this
to work? This error just means that you can’t paste a link just anywhere you like, just as you can’t type data into just any cell. change the excel data source schedule without calculate. see the link:
