Export & View Original Media

If I duplicate the browser (permission) set how do you add the ability to export for users in that group? I'm looking at the Trait Permissions and nothing obvious jumps out.
In short - Where do we control the ability to permit/deny Export?
Also is it possible to forbid a Permission Set to view the Original media but allow the proxy?
Thanks

You can find a nice table about permission setting in page 42-43 of the FCS Administration Guide.
About your question, let say you have all the original media in the media device (hope you know where the original representation of the files are located) then go to Administration/Permission Set/Choose there the set you want to modify...then go to device permissions. There you have on the first column the name of the device (like an excel sheet) the other columns are the options I was talking about, put the "Copy From" option to "Forbid" for the "Media" device and then those users won't be able to export from Media. The same thing for the rest of the devices.
Leave the option on "permit" for device "Proxies" so they can see the proxies on their clients.
For these changes to take efect you might want to restar the client for those users.
Hope this help.

  • View original media after clicking on video clip icon?

    Hello
Does anyone know if it's possible to change the FCS configuration so that I can view the original media after clicking on video clip icon? Normally this opens proxy files but I would like to change the default behavior.
    thanks
    sj

I don't know if you change the behavior by default.
    But you can for example
    1. Right click the asset and select View - Original Media
    2. Click and drag the asset on top of the Quicktime icon, If the device you're Original Media is located is configure for Edit-In-Place.
    Hope this helps.

  • Workflow: AVCHD to Proxy editing (no optimizing), Export from original media. Any disadvantages?

I've been reading AVCHD threads for FCP 7 and now FCP-X for a year or two. I understand the concepts. Now with FCP-X, I don't see any advantages to optimizing media to Apple Pro Res 422 on import. I'd be using the Pro Res Proxy and then ultimately exporting out with the original source files. The Proxy files will make editing fast, the export from source files removes any chance of generation loss, and not optimizing to Pro Res 422 at import will save a ton of backup space over the years. I realize the final export may take a bit longer from the raw AVCHD files vs. from Pro Res 422 media (how long I don't know yet).
Based on this scenario, any good reasons as to why I should be also creating the Apple Pro Res 422 files? Am I missing anything?
    Thanks,

    Questions:
    1. When you are ready to export, you MUST switch the playback to Original Material so FCP-X knows not to export with the Proxy files? I've seen posts implying this might be true and also that FCP-X will know to export using the source files and not Proxies.
No. You don't have to do this. Playback is just that, playback. When exporting, FCP X will not use transcoded media as the source. You do of course need to have the original source available/on line for FCP X to access. However, switching back and forth is a simple and quick operation so even if you did have to,
    2. Once I set up a new Event and point it to the original source files and create the Proxy files, can I assume that since the Proxies are created, FCP-X won't need to reference the source files again until export time? If this is the case, I can easily work on my laptop's internal drive without lugging around an external drive until I'm finally ready to export.
Yes, this is true. You can either do the method you described (copying the event to/from external to internal drives), or have the event on your laptop with the original source media on the external drive. Proxy media would be generated and stored in the Event folder (on your internal drive) while source media remains on the external drive. Just don't select 'copy into event folder' when importing the source media.

  • How to delete movies still in Original Media folder?

    Using iMovie 10.0.6 and Yosemite.
I delete clips within iMovie in my Library view by selecting the clip and 'Move to Trash' (this as I go through all my clips to see what I want to keep and what I want to throw away). After selecting to move to trash, these clips then disappear from view when I am looking at my iMovie library, so that looks a-ok.
However, when I look at my 'Original Media' folder within the iMovie Library folder (after selecting 'Reveal in Finder'), I still see these clips - as if they had never been deleted (and they appear to still be taking up space).
I have emptied the Trash from the main Finder window, but these files are still there. I don't see them when loading my iMovie Library, so not a big deal in this regard, but just wondering why they are still there taking up space and appear not to be deleted.
Related question - when I am left with a set of movie clips and I want to send someone else all the original clips to then create a movie, is the best way to find them in the Finder and copy onto another drive/folder and give to them, or to export directly from iMovie? (I would rather they have all the individual clips so better to play with, move around, fix dates, et
    Thanks-

    Thank you all,
As the mailbox is enabled single item recovery.
I just want to make the items neither in deletion folder, nor in purges folder.
So I think there are two ways to achieve this.
Method 1,disabled the single item recovery. then delete the items in deletion folder ,so it wouldn't enter to the purges folder, it just deleted permanently. then enable the single item recovery
Method 2,delete the items in deletion folder, then the messages move to the purges folder, then delete the messages in purges folder.
the Method 1 is not so good ,as it need to disable the single item recovery firstly, then enable  single item recovery .
So I want to use the Method 2

  • In FCPX 10.1.2 how do you edit in proxy mode...and after you are done editing in proxy mode, how do you switch back to original media? I had no problems with old version but complicated with newer version.

In old version of FCPX I could easily edit in proxy mode which i found to be a quicker way of editing...all i did was goto preferences and click on playback tab and change it from original media to proxy...and i could go right into editing, and when i was finished before i would export my project i would switch back to original media...then i would export my project. Now i'm having a hard time accomplishing this on the newer version fcpx 10.1.2.  Somebody please help me....thanks in advance!!!

Click the triangle at the top right of the viewer and choose proxy or optimized/original as appropriate.

  • Export Error Missing Media iPhoto

When I go to export the iMovie I've made to any format, I get an error about an Event not being available. The movie is of all images from an iPhoto album. This is the Event that is missing. Thanks for any help anyone can offer. I did not find my answer by browsing the archives here.

Yes -- when I wrote "in library view" it referred to within the iMovie app, where you toggle between "Library" and "Theater".
OK, so I found the Movies folder and the iMovie library folder inside -- thank you.  The "original media" sub-folder seems to contain all 50-odd .mov files that were imported from the iTouch (though, curiously, about half show the deafult QT thumbnail icon - playing any of those replaces it with an image).
The folder also contains a subfolder with the name of her project; in that there is a single file called "CurrentVersion.imovieevent" that I assume is what the app is playing in the library/project view.  But no other clues as to why the Share contines to return the missing media error...
To make matters more complicated, she subsequently created a second Trailor and that all seems to be working perfectly.  I have no idea what's different about the newer project, but maybe just the first (and, imho, much better) trailor isn't going to work...beginner's (bad) luck?  :::sigh:::

  • No audio for some files in the Final Cut Event/Original Media folder

Hi, recently, I noticed that some of the video files stored into the Final Cut Event/"Event"/Original Media folder had no audio. They do have audio when I read them into FCP X but not when I open them as ordinary files in the Finder. It worries me as it makes these files unusable in any other application, unless I "share" them from FCP X. It's no big deal but it's more work and on the principle, it's criminal: why FCP X would strip the audio off an original? Video and photo applications now work on the non-destructive principle!
I usually shoot videos with a DSLR (Canon 550D/T2i) and a GoPro 3. It seems that the files impacted are the ones shot with the Canon and optimized for FCP X. The GoPro files are fine, optimized or not.
Is there any solution to this problem or will I have to export the files from FCP X?

Thank you very much for the info.
I removed the Media Cache and Media Cache File folders.  Didn't seem to make any difference.  Also, there's no audio if I try to play it in Organizer.
I have a question regaring "import".  What exactly does that mean?
Since all my MTS files are on hard drive already, what I did was:
    1) Open a new project in PE9.
    2) In the "Organize" tab, click "Get Media"
    3) Choose "Get Videos/Photos/Audio from: Files and Folders".
    4) In the pop-up window, navigate to my folder and choose the existing MTS file.
    Was that called "import"?
    Thank you again!
    Michael

  • I am able to 'create a new version from original' but when I try to export the original, I only get a .jpg with the XMP file. The original is obviously there but why can't I access it please?

In Aperture 3 when I right click on an image I am able to 'create new version from original' which suggests that the original is there. When I try to export the original I only get a .jpg with the XMP file. These particular images are from 2010, has the RAW file become disconnected somehow? Please, how do I get access to the RAW file for editing in Ps? Thank you. Thomasrevil.

Sorry leonie, 'Use RAW as Original' is not an option for the image shot with the Canon.
Then your Import settings must have been different, when you imported the Canon photos.
You can check, if there is still a hidden raw file somewhere. If the image has been imported as a pair, you should see the "J" badge in Browser and Viewer, if you enable badge overlays. This indicates a pair, with the jpeg as original.
Select one of those images, and then relocate the original files "File > Relocate original" to a folder, where you can inspect it. Use "File > Show in Finder" after ward. Look, don't touch .
Then put it back, using "File > Consolidate".
Do you see your raw files in the folder, or is only a jpeg there?

  • APP exporting to A Media Encoder - not launching

I am going to export my video from Adobe Premier Pro to Adobe Media Encoder. Everything appears OK, Media Encoder launches in my doc, but i can't see the Media Encoder window with the cued items in it. I cannot figure out how to view the Media Encoder Window. I'm on a Mac working with CS4 for both softwares. Anyone else have this issue or an idea?
It was working great for me at the office today. Only thing i can think is that i had an external monitor plugged into my MBP there, now i'm just using my laptop. Do you think the Media Encoder window could be displaying off my screen? Can't figure out how to view it.
Please help! I need to export this video asap.

Going between the laptop's monitor and a dual, often causes issues like this. Basically, the other window/program is now off-screen on what is now a "phantom" monitor.
I'd try again, at work, and think about the change that will take place at home. Drag all programs to the laptop's monitor, before you close.
    Good luck,

  • Viewing P2 Media Without Final Cut

Hello all - I have footage shot with the HVX and imported straight off the p2Cards with Final Cut, the only form of this footage that I have exists as the quicktimes generated by FCP on an external Lacie drive.
However, I have somebody attempting to view the footage on a G4 running Panther, without Final Cut Installed. Their quicktime is up to date, but all they get when playing a clip is a white screen over the audio.
So I guess it's a codec issue - can you download a stand-alone update for quicktime that allows you to view quicktime media originated with P2 on a computer without Final Cut?
    Any help appreciated!

Without Final Cut installed he MIGHT be missing the DVCPRO HD codec. I am not sure is that is a QT installed codec, or installed when you install FCP...but without that codec they will not be able to view the footage. You will have to compress it into a format they can view.

    hi
i just want to know if we can maintain two different country of origin for foreign trade:export and foreign trade:export views in material master record.

Using your example: India is the country of origin and China the country of destination - you don't need 2 countries of origin.

  • IMovie: whats the fastest way to import and save all original media?

Good afternoon. Ok I need help please. Is there a way to simply take all the imported original media and just save it all in one fell swoop? Rather than having to import and then process/export clip by clip.
I thought I had a quicker way just grabbing all the original media from the imported camera (right clicking imovie library > show package contents > original media) untill I tried to play one of the original media files - no sound and it was mov file. I assume mp4 is better???
I have 2800 hours of video I need to import off my camera. I don't need to modify them at all, aside from the occasional combining of clips into one movie. So I need the fastest way. Importing and then exporting clip by clip will take me forever. I would prefer to just import and then just drag all 50 clips or so into my movies folder. But as stated above that does not seem to work as expected unless I'm missing a step.
    Thank you!

ps Can I take the original media files (mov format) and batch convert them using handbrake or MPEG streamclip? And if so would the resulting videos then have sound? And which is the best format (container codec whatever) to export them to? Thanks!

  • Imported from iMovie to fcpx my 1920x1080 original media now is only 720 in fcpx why?

my 1920x1080 original media now is only 720x576 in fcpx after i imported imovie evnts and project to final cut and i cant find a way to change this when i export it always export 720x576 with current but my current media is 1920x1080. reveal in finder and the media is full HD 1920. how can i let final cut pro x to see the media as it is...?
    Please help...Thanks a lot guys...

There are a number of things from Imovie that won't work properly when imported into FCPX.
There was one part of a video I needed as is so I exported from Imovie to Quicktime, then imported the clip into FCPX.
I called apple tech support, and they said yes, it is supposed to work, but doesn't.  Great.

  • Revert Nested Sequence to Original Media?

Not sure if I asked this question clearly enough last time, but suppose you have a master sequence with nested sequences.  Is there a way to change the clip references to the original media?   Even if it can't be done on the timeline, is there a way to direct the export to do so to a final cut xml?

So far, I think the best work-around is contained here, where you use the Shift-T option to identify the in and out points of the original media.
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WSEC1CCB36-CFD4-4d60-ABDF-B4F9BE339B05.ht ml
I suppose this section is the key to replacing the nested elements:
Reveal a source frame from a nested sequence
If you want to reveal a clip in a nested sequence (for example, to edit it), you can quickly open the source sequence at the exact frame you want to reveal.
1.In the Timeline panel, target the track in which a nested sequence is located by clicking the header of that track. If you target multiple tracks, the targeted track that is on top is used to select the nested sequence.
2.Drag the current-time indicator to the frame of the nested sequence that you want to reveal in its original sequence.
3.Press Shift+T to open the source sequence in the Timeline panel, with the current-time indicator at the frame you specified in the nested sequence.
4.Double-click the clip where the current-time indicator rests to open the clip in the Source Monitor.
