"Datei" > "Export" > "Pfade -> Illustrator"

    Hi all,
What if Lightroom is not able to "see" that there is already a PSE installation? I'm not able to import PSE catalogue because there is no "function" for PSE import in the pulldown.
    Thanks in advance!

how to fix the photoshopimport.aip error loading plug ins

    matth,
You may prevent/deal with the error message as long as Illy is open in the following way:
    1) Start up Photoshop first, then Illy;
    2) When the error occurs, click Don't show again, and click OK;
You may close down Photoshop after that.
If you get the error message without having Photoshop open, close down Illy and start with 1).

  • Smart Object import from Illustrator to Photoshop ( CS5 )

    Hello !
    Here's the thing:
I have an icon in Illustrator and I'm designing a website in Photoshop so I copy and paste that icon as a Smart Object in Photoshop and everything is perfect but when I resize that Smart Object is not perfect anymore.
    *The document is 200 %
-The first icon is the original file I import from Illustrator and It's 100%
-I resize the second icon to 70%
Now look at those gray light lines around the second icon. Why is that happening ? How can I fix it ?
    Thanks !
PS: Sorry for my English I just speak a little bit.

    Hi, again, Sunniess.
Now look at those gray light lines around the second icon. Why is that happening ? How can I fix it ?
You may be sorry you asked. I didn't have time to bore you with the answer to that earlier.
The gray lines are being generated in Ps, so this should be of interest to anyone who works with small images in Ps.
When you export from Illy using the clipboard, Illy rounds to the nearest whole pixel. A rounded rectangle is created in Illy  measuring 73x30 pixels.   If you scale the rectangle 70% in Illy, the new rectangle measures 51.1 x 21 pixels. But it pastes into Ps as 51x21 pixels.
If you import the 73x30 pixel image into Ps and scale 70% , instead of 51x21 pixels, you will get either 52x21, 53x21, 52x23 or 53x23 pixels, depending on where the Reference point locator (highlighted below) is set in the Transform Toolbar. The gray lines are the extra pixels.
Why the extra pixels? The extra pixels are a form of dithering. When you scale the  73x30 imported image 70% in Ps,  you get 51.1 x 21 pixels, same as in Illy. But Ps doesn't round to the nearest pixel. It creates fractional pixels. In the screenshot below,  the rectangle is rendered 52x21. The lines at top and bottom are sharp because the pixel height is a whole integer, 21. But the width is 51.1. There's a decimal fraction. The gray vertical bar at right is how Ps represents fractional pixels. The .1 of 51.1. Ps can't actually make .1 of a  pixel black. So instead it makes 1 pixel .1 black by assigning 10% opacity.
If the Reference point locater is set as below, you get a different result. Now the rectangle renders at 53x23 pixels. You now have gray rows of pixels at top and bottom, as well as both sides. The height is still really 21 pixels, but since it is transforming from the center and it's an odd number, Ps splits a pixel, assigning .5 black pixels at the top, and .5 black pixels at the bottom, which it represents with 2 rows of pixels at 50% opacity. Similar thing with the ends, except they are lower opacity because they represent smaller fractions of a pixel. This pretty much reproduces what your icon looks like.
Below is a closeup of the above rectangle over a blue background. The  rows of pixels aren't actually gray. They are semi transparent black.
The point is, how the Reference point locator is set can have unexpected influence on the results, particularly when downsizing small images. And will be most noticable on straight vertical or horizontal edges.
As if that weren't enough, there are options in your General Preferences that affect the results of resizing images.
I copied and pasted your icon into Ps, then scaled it 70% at two different settings.
The top is Bicubic, the botttom is Nearest Neighbor.
A significant difference. And this interacts with the Transform Locator setting to further confuse the issue. But if you resize in Illy you avoid all this.
If you resize in Ps, it's good to be aware of this stuff. This all happens in Ps. It really has nothing to do with Illy. If you must scale in Ps and get noticable rows of fractional pixels, it's easy enough to select the rows and just delete them. Or fill them. That's essentially what Illy does when it copies to the clipboard.
Your English is fine. I hope mine makes as much sense.
    Peace,
    Lee

    Thank you! Vielen Dank!

What are you talking about exactly?
If you need to export vector data Photoshop is not the first choice but if you have Type Layers (without faux styles), Vector Masks or Paths it is possible.
    alles gerastert auf einer Ebene
does not seem to make sense in this context though.

  • Print materials from Photoshop instead of Illustrator

    Hi all,
I occasionally have to print signage, and usually  "design in Photoshop> import graphics into Illustrator> replace text in Illustrator> save as PDF".
I just designed a 300dpi effects heavy image, and am wondering about the ability to save from Photoshop without having to mess with Illustrator. I've seen mention of "exporting in vector format" and it is 300dpi.
= Is my work-flow the most efficient way to do it?
= Can I essentially save/export a PDF from Photoshop that will keep the text vector and print as it would if exported from Illustrator?
Your advice and input is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

For the first question I think it is not efficient. For efficiency I would either 1) Use only Illustrator or 2) Use only Photoshop or 3) Do your design in Illustrator and import into Photoshop. The last option probably depends on the subject matter of the document, but still the output options from Photoshop are preferred by some over Illustrator.
Question 2: You can get high quality PDF output from Photoshop. Below is a small portion of a pdf file created by Photoshop and shown in Acrobat. It is being shown at 2400% magnification and shows 30 pt vector text and portions of two circles. The circle on the right is a simple pixel rendering and the circle on the left is a vector shape - the difference is evident.
If you work in Photoshop alone I would suggest starting with two pieces of information to create your initial working document - the number of pixels per inch (not printer dots/inch) you think you need and the size of the desired printed document - multiply them. If you wanted 500 pixels/inch and a 6" x 4" print then set your photoshop document to 3000 x 2000 pixels (minimum). Also, use vector elements in your document wherever possible.

  • Retaining Photoshop Layers in Illustrator

Trying to import a PSD file and retain its layers into Illustrator. It is coming in FLAT and I don't know why. These are a certain group of files. A different group is coming in with layers and I don't know why one is different than the other. Could something be causing my Photoshop file to be flattened even though it is layered in Photoshop? I have been racking my brain. Thank you for any help.

Sounds like they installed the Design Suite rather than the
    Web Suite.
FW is only in the Web Suite. In my view, switching to AI is
    not the answer.
Fireworks doesn't export to a very current version of
    Illustrator, but
it imports to current AI files fairly well.
If you install FW 8, you'll be able to save files as AI
    files, but I'm
not sure how much of your design will be lost in the process.
    I'd
recommend installing FW8 and continue using it unless you can
    convince
your Dean or Chair or Coordinator to purchase the updated FW
    CS3.

  • Importing layered Illustrator files

    Hello
I'm on an Intel Power Mac. Premiere 4.1.0
Importing layered Illustrator files does not work properly. It doesn't provide the pop up option box, to tell you what you want to do with the layers - either bring them in individually, or as a sequence, etc. All it does is simply imports the file with all the elements grouped in one file. Photoshop layered files are OK.
I have done everything Adobe has suggested. Please see following -
    1. Done a disk permissions check, with disk utility
    2. Deleted all Premiere preference files.
    3) Uninstalled software
    4) Did a cleanup script (provided by adobe)
    5) Reinstalled software - to Premiere 4.0 (tried this version and still no good).
    6) Uninstalled and reinstalled, clean script, just to make sure (still no good)
    7) Upgraded again to premiere 4.1.0 (still no good)
Has anyone had this problem before?
    Many thanks
    Danny

The problem is that the Help file, and any marketing literature for that matter, is not a good indication of what the software actually does or does not do. Danny, I realize that you want to torch Adobe HQ over this issue, but the fact of the matter is that mistakes happen. And I can guarantee you 100% that when you installed the software and accepted the EULA, you acknowledged that those mistakes do happen, whether they are software bugs or erroneously-advertised features, and you absolve Adobe of any liability. I'm certainly not suggesting complacency--feel free to call the BBB or organize a class-action lawsuit or get the pitchfork-wielding mob to storm the castle--but I think it's a waste of time and energy. Adobe's not going to cop to any bug or missing feature--end of story. And the folks you're talking to at customer support really have, at most, a rudimentary understanding of the software. If you want to be active and proactive, file a feature request/bug report. It's not a guarantee of satisfaction, but it's more likely to bring you to that point than any of the above options.
Not to belabor the point, but the way the Help file is written...
"...you can import a layered Photoshop or Illustrator file as a
sequence, enabling you to set up graphics in these applications and
then import them into an Adobe Premiere Pro project."
...suggests that both layered Photoshop files and Illustrator files will be recognized as sequences when imported. No, it does not specifically say "layered Illustrator file," but from the context of "as a sequence" implies that the layers would be recognized and imported thusly. At present, all Illustrator files, whether they are layered or not, are flattened on import. I would be inclined to believe that this is not so much a bug, as it is a feature that was planned but not implemented, and somewhere along the line the memo between the programming group and the marketing group to this effect was misplaced. Whichever it is, it doesn't matter: this is not a workflow option.
Here are a couple of legitimate workflow options:
Export your AI file (don't use Save As, use Export) to a PSD file. You can maintain the layers as well as text editability by doing this, and the layered PSD will subsequently import as a sequence into Premiere Pro.
Stop using Illustrator for video graphics. Photoshop really is better suited for video graphics, in my view, than Illustrator is. Illustrator is fine for building logos and such, and even doing some text layout that's not possible or at least not easily done in Photoshop, but vector artwork is a poor match for the world of video. Your vector artwork (whether its sourced from Illustrator, Photoshop, or wherever else) is automatically rasterized when imported into Premiere, so I feel it's better to start in Photoshop where you can control this to a greater extent than you can in Illustrator.
As I've mentioned previously, use After Effects to build a comp from your layered AI file, and either render a movie out for use in Premiere, or use Dynamic Link to keep it live between AE and PPro.

  • Exporting vector shapes in Photoshop

Hi, i hope im able to explain my situation properly.
The thing is, i made several vector shapes in Illustrator, of course forgot to save the .ai and then my mac went out of power and lost the document.
BUT, before the mac went out of power i imported the shapes into Photoshop, and now their laying there as vector shape layers. Is there any way for me to export the vector shape layers back into illustrator, and still maintain vector editability?
I would be ever so grateful for any help!

You can select the Paths and copy/paste them or ducplicate the Vector Masks in the Paths Panel and use Edit > Export > Paths to Illustrator.
Or simply open the psd in Illustrator and check Convert Layers to Objects.

    Hallo,
    Ralf

  • Can't open photoshop files in Illustrator

I have been running Adobe CS3 on my computer for 4 years now, and recently installed windows 7. Since then I get an error on my computer when I try to open photoshop that says:
"there is no disk in drive. Please insert a disk into drive\device\Harddisk1\DRI"
From there all I can do is press try again or cancel. Try again doesn't do anything, so I press cancel and then the program opens like normal.
The other problem I am having is I try to open a photoshop file in Illustrator or try to place a photoshop file in illustrator the program crashes and says:
"The application ran out of memory. Please close some windows to free memory."
I don't have any other windows or programs running, and I have a quad processor and 8g of memory. Shouldn't be crashing.
Does anyone have a solution for me please?
    Thanks

"there is no disk in drive. Please insert a disk into drive\device\Harddisk1\DRI"
It's looking for a file somewhere on a drive that no longer exists. Trash the prefs, flush the MRU (Recent Files) lists.
and I have a quad processor and 8g of memory. Shouldn't be crashing.
AI is a 32bit app and never uses more than 2.something GB of memory, no matter how beefy your system may be. Anyway, such issues are usually quite specific, so it will be hard for anyone to advise. Some basic specs on what PSDs you are trying to import might help...
