Exported File Opened in Quicktime looks bad, but looks fine in Final Cut

I'm working on a DV/NTSC sequence. Original footage captured from DV/NTSC, so there is no recompressing happening in the timeline. I've exported the sequence as a Quicktime Movie, using current settings, not recompressing all frames. I've also tried this exporting as a self contained movie, but get the same results.
Once the export is complete, I open the file in Quicktime, the quality is blurred and degraded compared to the canvas in Final Cut. I then open the same exact file in Final Cut and view it in the viewer, and the quality is perfect! I have no idea why this is happening. If I take my exported Quicktime file, and run it through Compressor to create different formats, they all produce the low quality, blurry results. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions on how to get around this?
So far, the only fix I've found is to go into the sequence settings as select "None" for compressor instead of the default "DV/DVCPRO - NTSC" setting. The problem with this is that then the whole timeline has to be rendered. Once the rendering is complete, then I can export to Quicktime without any quality loss when viewing the file in the Quicktime Player.

From the menu bar:
*QuickTime Player* > Preferences > General > Use high-quality video settings when available.

I have a project that crashed on me when I was about to finish it. When I try to reopen Final Cut Pro it wouldn't open until I took the project out of the Final Cut Project folder. Can somebody tell me if this is a problem that has a solution? I cannot go back to the project at all.

If you are using 10.0.3 or above Apple added a backups folder that for a little extra protection in cases like this. If you quite FCPX go to your Final Cut Pro Projects folder. Find the folder that has the project in question. If it has a backups folder there should be a file with a date stamp and .fcpproject extention, that is your back-up. Just move the back-up from that folder one folder up to the place where you deleted CurrentVersion.fcpproject from.  When I have had to do this I haven't renamed the backup but some people to recomend that you rename it to CurrentVersion.fcpproject and it seems to work both ways. Ofcourse it wont work if there is already a CurrenVersion file there you will need to delete that one first.
If you don't have the backups folder or there is nothing in it I am not sure if there is anything that can be done.

Hi, I am looking to get Final cut but not sure which is best for my system. I have a G5 mac with 2gb ram. I am looking at Final cut HD or Final cut 4. I want to get the best for the price and my system.
    THANKS

Have a look at the Apple Store online: http://store.apple.com/AppleStore/WebObjects/BizCustom?qprm=78313&productLearnMo re=MA886Z/A
    There you can find:
    Upgrade Eligibility
The upgrade version requires a valid serial number from a commercial version of Final Cut Studio, Production Suite, or Final Cut Pro 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. Academic and not-for-resale versions are not eligible for this upgrade.

  • How can I check to see if my version of QuickTime Pro 7.6.6 already has ProApps QuickTime Codecs installed? I also have Final Cut Pro 6. I'm asking because my computer can't seem to play ProRes 422 codec video without stuttering or skipping?

If you can view a ProRes 4-2-2 video at all, then you either have the independent ProRes422 Playback component installed or the FCP "Pro" video components installed.

Check your "~/Library/QuickTime" folder for your various "Pro" components. If in doubt that you have them all, re-run the FCP installer and it should add any missing components, apps, or utilities.

  • I have a new iMac but having problems installing final cut express 4 from old macbook pro ?

i have a new iMac but having problems installing final cut express 4 from old macbook pro ?

FCE was discontinued nearly 3 years ago and is no longer supported.
I don't know whether it's possible to install it on Mavericks and if you do it may not perform properly.
Final Cut pro X and iMovie are the only Apple apps that are supported.

  • Quicktime DV file opens on Mac... but not PC.

Long story short, I'm using VirtualVTR to record DV files. I can open and play them with no problems at all on a Mac machine, but XP gets a -2048 error.
Until recently, I would get this error on a select few files... but now it's every file.
To confuse the issue more, if I take the file into Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and simply export the file again... it works without fault.
FYI, the record hardware is an AJA Kona LH on a G5.

I'm quickly running out of ideas or answers.
I can't think of what FCP export does to the file that allows PC viewing.
Maybe the file wasn't properly "closed" during recording.
Mac's can read "incomplete" MPEG 1 and 2 files I don't if it's the same on a PC as I've never tried one.
What happens if you simply "Save As" using QuickTime Pro? That would put the DV file inside a .mov container but would also set the header info to the front of the file.
If that works it's much faster (nearly instantly) than a FCP export.

  • PDF WEB FILES OPEN IN QUICKTIME AND NOT ADOBE

I don't know if this is a browser problem or an issue with my G4 laptop, but web pages that consist of a pdf file don't display properly. The page opens after showing a Quicktime logo, but it is only an initial page of the document. No scroll bar and no capacity to move through the document. Problem exists also in Firefox. Saved pdf files open just fine in Adobe Reader. I thought I had rthe problem corrected as per earlier post. Now it is back, and it is the same in Firefox. How do I tell the browsers to use Adobe for pdf?

I would strongly suggest you make this a separate post. Chances of getting it seen by others who can help, now that it has been marked solved are getting smaller. Also, if I remember, you seem to be using an outdated version of Reader, which is now up to version 9.1 and that might have something to do with this.
Also, Preview App. can be selected as the default .pdf applicaton, perhaps at least until you get this sorted out. It works pretty well. And, if this is a Firefox issue you can post in the Firefox Forum.
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=38
You don't need to register there to post. Since that forum is not only Mac, make sure you include Mac OS X and whatever version you're running in the subject to get the attention of someone there who knows Mac.

  • Why pdf files open in quicktime?

why is it that all my pdf downlaods open in a quicktime window and wont let me see the whole pdf file, its just the first page.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Look at the file you're trying to open in the finder, highlight it, then do a "get info" from the File menu. In the "Open with" section, I would imagine that it says, "Quicktime Player." This is why it opens a Quicktime window when you open it.
You can change this, and should. ::grin::
Select "Preview" and then click on the "Change All..." button. Now all you .pdf's will open in Preview and all pages will be available for your viewing.
May all your challenges be this easy to solve.
    Joel.

  • How to export file with original filename number suffix, but with more digits

Is there a way to keep the original filename number suffix, but change the formatting of the number, adding leading zeros for instance?
When I import photos from my camera I like to rename them, and give them sequential numbers, e.g. "2015-01 Hamburg 1.cr2", "2015-01 Hamburg 2.cr2", "2015-01 Hamburg 10.cr2", .. "2015-01 Hamburg 134.cr2", and so on.
Normally when I export photos I like to keep the file names exacly as I imported them (except the extension) e.g. 2015-01 Hamburg 1.jpg, "2015-01 Hamburg 2.jpg", .. "2015-01 Hamburg 10.jpg", .. "2015-01 Hamburg 134.jpg".
But sometimes I would like to export them with leading zeros, typically when adding photos to a web site or blog where there are sort mechanisms that only support simple sort algorithms based on file names, meaning the sort order of my photos with their original file names would become "2015-01 Hamburg 1.jpg, "2015-01 Hamburg 10.jpg", .. "2015-01 Hamburg 134.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 2.jpg".
    So I would like the file names to be "2015-01 Hamburg 001.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 002.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 010.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 134.jpg".
By keeping the original file number suffix I can easily go back to the original file whenever I need to, and the sort order would work even with simple sorting.
The export Filename Template Editor gives quite advanced support for numbering files when exporting, see attached screenshot. There's support for exporting files with custom file names, and adding sequence, total and image number with padding (up to 9999/####). But those add new numbers, they do not consider the original filename number suffix. If I use the "Image # (001)" for instance, my example above would export as "2015-01 Hamburg 001.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 002.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 003.jpg", "2015-01 Hamburg 004.jpg", if those were the four photos I wanted to export, making it hard for me to trace them back to the original photo.
I have found no way of adding such padding on the original file number.
Does anyone know if this is possible or have suggestions for a workaround?
It shouldn't be too hard for Adobe to support this I'd imagine.
export pattern rename files  file_number filename_template_editor

I do not know if you can do what you explained above, but there is a workaround to this (and a way to avoid having to do it in the future):
In the Library module, make sure your images are sorted by Capture Date (this will put them in the right order, even with suffixes like 1, 13, etc.)
Select all images, and then Rename them, using a Custom text followed by a Sequence number. The Custom text in this case should be the original name (such as, 2015-01 Hamburg, as in your example). Make sure the Sequence number is formatted with enough zeroes to include all the numbers in your images.
In the future, when you rename images during Import, make sure you select the Sequence number format that will include all the needed zeroes, so you don't have to go through this again.

  • Why won't movie trailer files open in Quicktime

Each time I try to open a movie trailer file in my Quick time pro I see a down load window with a small X box at the top left hand of the window.
Why won't these files open. When I go to the same files in Itune Store I have no difficulty downloading and playing

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago, but nobody gave me a reply. I don't know if it helps in your case, but I eventually found out it was my firewall blocking the download.
I could view SD trailers but not the HD ones for some reason.

  • Downloadable .tiff files open in quicktime, not as an image file: using mac

    I am using a Mac 10.6.3 and
    Ffirefox ver: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2) Gecko/20100115 Firefox/3.6
downloadable .tiff files open in firefox quicktime, not as image files, nor do they let me choose how to download or where to save or as what type of file.

    Hello andrea,
You can tell Firefox to ask you where to store your download files by changing the Firefox "Preferences". You can get the instructions on how to do it in this article: [[Downloads window]].
I would advise you to download tiff files as tiff files only otherwise they may become unviewable.
Now, to open your tiff files as images, you can change the settings on your Mac computer as follows:
#Select the tiff image that you downloaded.
#Right click on it and select "Get info"
#A windows will pop up. In this window, select the "Open with" item. Under this item, select "Preview" or any other image viewer application that you want to use.
#Next, click on the "Change All.." button. Click "Continue" in the message that is shown.
That's all. Now, your tiff files will open as images in the application that you just selected
Hope this solves your problem !

  • MP4 video looks blurry in Final Cut pro

So im recording screen captures from Jing Pro into final cut pro and when i view the captures NOT in fcp they look fine but when I view them in FCP and when i export them from FCP, the quality looks terrible, even when I put it at the highest possible quality (1280x1080).
    any fixes?
    please help

Open up Compressor, add your video, in the presets type in ProRes, it should narrow it down. Choose the prores LT preset, make sure in the audio that it is enabled and set to Linear PCM 48K...
Submit, and the resulting video should now look appropriate in FCP.
In FCP, add your video to a clean timeline, FCP should ask if you want to change your sequence setting to match, click YES.

  • Just Opened My New Mac Pro and trying to install Final Cut Pro

Just opened up my new Mac. I'm trying to install Final Cut Pro. I put the CD in the tray and it doesn't install. Usually the install icon comes up on the desktop, but it doesn't. I am logged in when attempting to install it.

The answer to your first question is to use the "Finder". That is how you access your storage media, folders and files on a Mac... I assume by this question that you must be a Windows user.
When you open the Disk Utility, you should see both the drive and any media mounted by the drive. You also went to the System Profiler via "About This Mac". The DVD drive is not shown in the overview, but is found in ATA, and the burner in Disc Burning. In ATA you should see the physical drive and also below, any disc mounted by the drive.
Although application CD/DVD discs should open on the desktop when inserted, the same is not necessarily true of music CD's. What Mac OS X does in their case is dictated by settings in System Prefs, CDs & DVDs.
If you need AppleCare, whatever you do, don't just arrive there without a Genius Bar appointment, or you'll be wasting a trip. As far as contacting Cupertino AppleCare by phone, you can find that at the bottom of the Support page under "Contact Support".
...And I agree with the others, that being descriptive is always best.
    Hope this helps.

  • Jpeg's look interlaced in final cut pro

I know you folks are probably getting sick of me, but here's one more. When I bring jpegs into final cut and put them on my timeline, they look like you can see the interlacing in them. The only thing that seems to fix thi is if I go to the settings and turn the fields off completely, but when I do this, the video looks funny. Again, please tell me what I am doing wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Uhm...concerning pictures...read this:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=618846&tstart=0
Also, JPEGS are highly compressed and not ideal for working with in FCP. TIFFs and PNGs are much better. ABSOLUTELY NO NEED to convert these to media files. Avids way of making them media files was the worse thing that could be done to those stills. Didn't allow for any movement on them whatsoever. You needed a special plugin to allow that on an Avid.
Look at this tutorial for some insight:
