Exported file size is too big?

Ok, this is what has been happening:
I input a 600kb .jpeg image into photoshop touch.
I do nothing to it except to change its transparency from 100% to 75%.
I then export the resulting image to the gallery, as either a .png or as a .jpg.
For some reason, the resulting .png is suddenly 3.6mb, and if export as a .jpg instead it is 1.6mb.
I am not sure if this is a normal effect for photoshop programs, however as the image resolution is the same, I dont see why the file size is increasing by so much. At the very least, there should be an option for controlling the compression of outputted files?

The photo was taken with a GoPro 3. Exported to Camera Roll as JPG.
What I did notice was that when I used Filterstorm Neue, at 100% JPG quality, it also spat out a 25.5MB file. Changing this to 98% yielded 7.5MB. My guess is that Photogene4 automatically selects a JPG quality that matches the original size? I certainly can't tell the difference in 2% quality that's for sure... It's nice to have the option in Filterstorm Neue.
Working on these 3840x2880 files in Photoshop Touch is awful - the images appear grainy and it's slow to use. Pixelmator and others have no problems using layers and working on these size images.

  • CFX_Image seems to resize ok but the file size is too big??

    my host uses CFX_IMAGE v1.6.6.11 (

which does a perfectly good job of resizing images except for
the fact that the resultant file size is too large. i found that
compared to resizing images locally, resizing using this tag
resulted in file sizes of double the size.
i have tried tweaking the "quality" paramater but without
success, i could get the file size down but then the quality was
    poor.
so i am forced to resize images locally using macromedia

ideally i need to be able to resize images server side but
    without inordinate file sizes.
does anyone else use a cfx_image tag that's more efficient?
or does anyone else know how to get this tag to perform better?
any help would be very gratefully received.

  • Exported file sizes - why so big

I'm not sure if this question is truly answerable or not.
As some of you may have noticed I was looking into maybe changing over to Lightroom, well after some in-depth analysis I've all but decided to stick with Aperture. The things it does very well cannot compare to what LR has to offer. Organizational tools, like smart albums and projects.
Anyways in comparing the two apps I noticed that the jpg exports of aperture were quite a lot larger then LR. for instance at best quality 1600x1200 a jpg in aperture is typically 1.5meg and LR is 1.1. Not a huge difference.
Now take tiff 16bit full resolution. 35meg for aperture 10 for LR.
Any idea why things appear to be so large for aperture.
Quality of the images is near identical at least as far as I can tell. I went so far as zoomed into both images 200% and compared them in photoshop.

  • SSRS report Excel Export file size is huge

    Hello everyone,
I am facing an issue with SSRS report exporting  to Excel.
Issue : Exported file size is too big.
I have a matrix report ( parametrized report ) it fetches data from multiple table.
    initially when
    1) I select all parameters all values
    2) load the report after that
    3) exporting to excel
so exported file size was about 10 Mb to 12MB
Now, suddenly from this month exported file size is too big around 62 MB for same data,
I checked on different forums and tried the solutions but it didn't worked,
can anyone please suggest me on this.
    My environment is
    Visual studio (BIDS) 2008
    SQL Server 2008 R2
    Excel 2007
    Thanks

    Hi UdayKGR,
According to your description, when you export a report into an excel file, the exported file size is too huge. Now you want to reduce the file size. Right?
In this scenario, do you export the report into excel 2003 file? When reports are first exported and saved to Excel 2003, they do not benefit from the file optimization that Excel automatically applies to its *.xls workbook files. The larger file size can
cause problems for e-mail subscriptions and attachments. To reduce the size of the *.xls files for exported reports, open the *.xls files and then resave the workbooks. Resaving the workbooks typically reduces their file sizes by 40 to 50 percent. Also please
try to install the Reporting Services 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 and reduce the merged columns in exported excel file. For more information, please see the links below:

  • Scanning: The image size is too big. Please reduce the image height, width, resolution, scaling or output type.

    Good Day.
I have recently discovered an issue with scanning.  I have tried scanning straight from the printer, through image capture, and through preview.  All yeilding the same results since they are essentailly kicking off the same scanning applet.  I can scan a jpeg formatted file as long as I applet is in the "Hide Details" mode.  If I click on the "Show Details" button, which I need to do to scan to PDF, I immediately receive an error stating: The image size is too big. Please reduce the image height, width, resolution, scaling or output type.

    Hello Sig
The scanner works with a Windows computer, which proves the device is functional at a cursory level. The drivers are now distributed by Apple and this is an Apple computer. There is no scanning software provided by HP. HP's answer is that Mountain Lion takes care of all of this.  I anticipate that some setting or driver was somehow tweaked since the scanner had been working with Mountain Lion until a few days ago.  The device in question is an Apple product. So, I'm pretty confident that I'm in the right place.

    Hi,
When you have the browser open (Internet Explorer) then press the Alt key on the keyboard. It should show you the file options at the top..Then uncheck work offline and check..
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

  • "File size is too large"

When I imported the only 4 files in a particular folder (scans of photos) into the Organiser, the message "File size is too large" came up for two of them instead of preview images, although do appear to have been added to the Catalog as their MB size, pixel dimensions and creation date show in the Properies General tab.
I take it this must relate to pixel count and not the file size per se as the two tifs (13.2 and 13.3 MB but 1792 x 2508 and 2518 x 1798 pixels) are fine, while the two JPGs (12.9 and 30.8 MB and 9616 x 6480 and 7048 x 10376) are the ones without preview images?
I wasn't aware of this as a problem, so can anybody tell me please, have I just set too low a limit somewhere or is there a real restriction?
And is this new to PSE6 or something that's been around for a while?
    Thanks, Peter

    I have a 212mb psd file (a panorama).   I have Elements 6.0 and 4 meg RAM, Vista.
I went through the regedit process as outlined in Adobe Technote kb402760 and upped it to 1,000,000,000.  I would think that would have given enough headroom for my file size.  But it didn't.  I still have the generic "file size too large" on my thumbnails.
I did note that the tech note had a different location for the Software/Adobe/Elements 6.0/Organizer (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ ) from the location in my file structure.  In fact, this string was listed in at least three places OTHER THAN the one indicated in the Technote.  How likely is it that adding "MaxImageSize" to the Elements 6.0 register locations other than specifically indicated is the reason why the file size capacity was not increased.  Why doesn't Elements show up in the location indicated by the Tech Note?
NOTE FOR ADOBE:  Why isn't this a more easily accessible option in the user interface?  If I have a large file that slows things down a bit on my thumbnails, that could be my choice.  This artificial constraint built into the regedits that no one goes to is too much like parental controls for 5 year olds.

  • LARGER Exported File sizes

I recently upgraded to LR V2 (also use PS CS3)
For some reason my exported file sizes have increased immensely
Typically I would convert from RAW to TIFF with the following settings:
    11" x 17" print size
    compression: none
    Adobe RGB1998
    16 bit
    resolution 300 DPI
These files would convert at about 90MB (manageable on my system)
They are now converting at a whopping 400MB (aging system can't handle this!)
Is this the new LR V2 standard, is there some setting I need to change?
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Rich

No, you must be doing something wrong there. 300 ppi (NOT DPI!) at 11x17 and 16 bits uncompressed should be 90MB as you can calculate with simple math. If you enable compression (highly recommended for tiffs - it's lossless compression) you should be able to cut that in half.

I assume you have Photostream on, correct?
In order for the photos to be moved into Photostream, you must exit the camera app, and be on a wifi connection.  Both of these criteria must be met before the sync occurs.

  • Export file size help...output seems way too big

I have a 12 minute movie with audio, video and stills in it.
Currently when I export it the file is 865MB...  I need it to be less than 100 with decent quality.  It is a tutorial video that will be downloaded from the web.
Can you please give me some direction on how to do this?  On what variables to change etc.  I know if I exported this out of Camtasia Studio, it would be around that 100 or less bench mark .... problem is I don't know what the settings for the Camtasia preset are.
I am using the following setup:
    Quicktime Format
    Summary:
    Output:
    1400x790, 15(fps), quality 100
    48000 Hz, Stero, 16 bit
    H.264
    Source:
    Sequece, 01-OverviewSWKit
    1920x1080 (1.0), 24fps, Progressive, 00:12:03:12
    48000 Hz, Stereo
    Settings:
    Video Codec:  H264
    Basica Settings:
    Quality 100
    Width/height (1400 x 790
    Aspect: Square pixels (1.0)
Render at maximum depth - "UN"-checked
    Depth: 24 bit
    Advanced Settings
Key Frame every 1 frame - "UN" checked
    Optimize stills - "UN" checked
    Frame Reordering "UN" checked
    Bitrate setting:
Limit data rate to xxxx  "UN" checked
Use Maximum Render Quality - "UN" Checked
    Use Previews "UN" Checked
    Use Frame Blending "CHECKED"

Well, with the Apple H.264 encoder in a QuickTime container, you're a bit limited to the number of things you can tweak to decrease final file size. Using a more advanced H.264 encoder, like the free x264, will give access to many of the more "high-tech" bells and whistles that are part of the H.264 standard. One potential would be to tick the "Key frame every # frame" box and try a few values there, usually at multiples of your frame rate. Key frames are "whole" frames that take up much more space in the final file size, and decrease their frequency might help slightly decrease file size, though it will also affect quality.
Short of changing the dimensions of your destination video, decreasing the frame rate, or changing the bitrate of the video and audio streams, you will eventually reach a limit of how much you can push one parameter or another. You might try using H.264 in the Format (not codec) dropdown; this will give you a bit more control over encoding to an H.264 MP4 file. Unless you specifically need a QuickTime MOV, you might find you get better results with the H.264 MP4.
These are of course just the options in Premiere itself. Once you go outside the castle walls, you can find a whole bunch of other options, though they usually come at a steeper learning curve. The big thing to remember is that there is no free lunch when it comes to encoding; you have to give a bit here to gain there, and it's all about setting thresholds of what you're willing to accept.

  • The size of my exported FCP movie is too big for DVD studio pro

    Hey,
I have been editing for 4-5 years now and have never had a problem with size of a project to put into DVD Studio Pro to burn. However, I just finished a 2 hour project in which exported as a FCP movie it is 23.97 gb in size. When i put this into DVD Studio Pro it makes it 4.8gb in size which just makes it too big for it to burn. I have tried changing the compression to no avail and just now decided to clean up the timeline so everything is on one track with nothing overlapping. (The problem was it was a 2 camera shoot so the first camera i had on the bottom track constant with the second camera on the top track when i needed it but still with the first camera underneath.) Do you think this could be the solution to my problem? If you guys could help me out it would be most appreciated!

some things don't make sense here. please clarify.
Standard DV is roughly 5 minutes per gig, so that means that you have just about 2 hours of video, ok, got that. Now it's the two track thing that gets me.
Are you saying you have 4 hours of footage, the same thing from two cameras, and you're trying to set up a multi-angle DVD?
If it's just that you used two video tracks to edit, then NO, it is not your problem. It's still only 2 hours, the video will be mixed down to one track upon export from FCP to quicktime.
My suggestion is, instead of bringing a quicktime file directly into DVDSP, use compressor. I believe they have a preset in compressor 2 for a standard 120 minute DVD. IF you're project is truly less than 120 minutes, than that should be fine. If not, then you may have to manually make your own setting and lower the bitrate.
    So the workflow is:
    -open sequence in fcp
-file>export>quicktime movie... (you can uncheck "make movie self-contained" if you want it to export faster and you plan on keeping your original capture footage around)
-export your movie to a directory of your choice with a name of your choice.
    -open compressor (in applications)
-drag the quicktime file you created into compressors main window, this will set it up. Now specify the export setting (120 minute HQ all files either 16x9 or 4x3 dep. on project) and specify a location for the files to be created. I strongly suggest that you use the HQ (High quality) settings in compressor. It's much slower to process, but much better quality.
-with a 2 hour movie it should take a really REALLY long time to compress, so I'de say do it over night.
-when compressor is done, you should have 2 or three files. a .m2v file a .aif file, and a .ac3 file. The .aif is your PCM audio, much better quality than the .ac3, which is dolby 2 channel. However, the .ac3 is a much smaller file with a lower bit rate, so if the .aif makes the DVD file size too big, you can switch it out for the .ac3
-Finally, open up your DVDSP project, drag the .m2v, .aif, and .ac3 into DVDSP and use the .m2v for the video track and either the .aif or .ac3 as the audio (as mentioned above)
-the good news is, your DVD media is already rendered, so when you go to build your DVD it will go much, much faster!
By the way, I recommend you go to file>advanced>build do not do a burn and build.
I find it best to build the VIDEO_TS folder on a hard drive and then use a program like toast to create a DVD (using toasts from VIDEO_TS option). This method also allows you to go back into DVDSP, make tweaks, and reuse your VIDEO_TS folder, not having to rebuild the whole thing each time.
Remember, 120 minutes on a single layer DVD is going to render fairly low quality no matter what.
If you have a newer mac and a dual layer drive, you may want to cough up a few bucks and get a dual layer DVD-R, then you have over 8 gigs of space to work with, perfect for HQ 2 hour footage.

  • Export File Size meter

I wish the export dialog calulated the file size based on the quality, type etc.
EG: If im exporting a jpeg and slide the quality slider it would be cool to know what size of file i would get before exporting.
    Thanks,
    Braden

I would like the ability to set Export by File Size, or the ability to Resize an Image upon Export by pixels as well. Often times I'm exporting images from Lightroom just for email or the web and want them at about 100 pixels in JPG. Even setting the Quality on Export to 1 usually leaves a .jpg shot at about 300 pixels, and too big to view without using a software slide viewer without scrolling. So I have to Edit the images in other photo software to do this, which is an annoying additional step.

  • InDesgin 6 PDF Export, File size weirdness

    Hello
ive been exporting Docs from inDesign CS5 for ages
simple enough - hi quality print, no downsampling, jpeg-hi quality,
PDF usually comes out about 4MB
So i open the same files in inDesign 6
set my PDF export to above settings, but my PDFs are 14MB
ive been tweaking CS6 PDF export settings for ages now.
its always too big unless i go way overboard with downsampling
then i get a small (but crappy) PDF
    any help advice appreciated....

    @Arinkah:
Quite a bit of work has been done for InDesign 8 (CS6) to further optimize the generated PDF compared with earlier versions of InDesign, especially if you have graphics on master pages.
    @Megumi2:
Unless we have the actual sample files to look at, we can't speculate as to the anomalies you see. It isn't our experience and we don't know what could be causing what you are seeing as files 350% larger than previously generated. No, we didn't have any JPEG compression change that would account for this assuming you used the exact same JPEG (Automatic) settings.
