Exported image size

I shoot a canon 30D which produces RAW files about 7mb. When I export the versions as full size Jpegs, they get knocked to around 250kb! What is going on? That seems like an extreme amount of compression to me. Any ideas as to what I am doing wrong? Thanks
HPL

Go into the export presets and have a look at both the output dimensions and the compression settings.

  • Keep exported image size in HTML as shown in PDF

I have many inline formulas (imported from Word file via using mathtype) in PDF article made by ID. But when I export the articles as HTML, the images for formulas become much larger than shown in PDF version. How can i keep the exported images to the same size as they are shown the PDF file? I know I can edit the html file to specify image size, but that is the ideal work flow.
    Thank you.

    Hi Eric,
If i'm getting you right. you have the formulas placed as the images.
So, to keep the size fixed, In HTML export Options in image tab keep the image size as fixed.
    Snapshot to refer:
Now you have image of same size as it appears in InDesign.

  • WEB module export image size

    Team, I am
exporting just two images from the Web Mo
    dule...using the basis HTML
    gallery template.
The original image size is 4972K (4.9Mb)
After I select export in the web module, the resulting image is around
    200K in the content\images\large directory.
I have the "Large Images" Quality slider at 100
Is is the case...that no matter what...the image will be manipulated or reduced in size by the web module engine?
I would like the original image to be exported out to the content\images\large directory.
    Is this possible?
I was just on phone with support...close to two hours...disconnected twice...but the phone support folks were not aware of what I am doing.
I am using LR 3.3 in Windows...if that matters.
    Thank You,

Beat, I have not made any adjustments.  Not sure where "Image Pages" are.  But, under the Web module, I have tried several "Large Images" quality settings under the "Output Settings"
You find this setting under the Appearance section:
I am getting the sense that no matter what...the LR Webgallery engine wants to "optimize" the images for web output.
I just want the people that visit the site, the ability to download the original image...unaltered.
I have not found a way to go beyond 2071 pixels for image width in Web Gallery.
From what i am reading so far, I think I should just let the galley engine do its work. Then come back and upload the original images under the content\images\large (or whatever the output destination might be).
That might be a way to achieve what you want. There might be side-effects regarding borders, watermarks etc.

  • Export Image Size

Okay, this is driving me crazy, and I can't find the answer anywhere:
    I'm working on a project that requires 300dpi JPGs at size 2.75" x 3.75".
When I look at the document size in document setup, it shows up as 2.75" x 3.75". So far, so good.
But when I try to export, the final image is 975 pixels by 1276 pixels. Which by my calculations ain't right. (Should wind up at 825 x 1125, no?)
When I change the units to pixels in the Document Setup window by the way it reads at 198 x 270.
    Using CS3.
What am I missing here? Is there an easy fix?

    Jack,

    Correct.
When I change the units to pixels in the Document Setup window by the way it reads at 198 x 270.
This corresponds to 72 PPI, which is 2.75" by 3.75" expressed in pixels/points; this just expresses the actual size regardless of resolution.
What am I missing here? Is there an easy fix?
Are you creating vector artwork to export as JPEG at 300 PPI? If so, just set the resolution as part of exporting.
Or are you working with a raster image (JPEG?) placed in Illy? If so, you cannot just change the resolution and expect the same quality.

  • Exporting Image Sizes

When I make my movies, the images appear blury and yes I know it is because they are too small.
The thing I wanted to ask is is there a way to keep the size the image as it originally was, rather than having to adjust itself to match the dimention?

You could also use the built in hard drive publish services. Create two services, one for each location/size. Within each publish service, create a smart folder that refers to a single collection. Then dragging a photo to that one collection will queue the images for export in both services.
You'd still have to visit each of the services to click "publish."
Removing the images from the collection automatically deletes the from the hard drive on the next publish, also.

  • BUG: 16.0.1 Updating linked export image size does not update other dimension

    Hi
Either this is a bug or I'm missing something.
    1. In AI CS6 16.0.1 (32-bit), click "Save for Web and Devices"
    2. Make sure W & H are linked
    3. Make a change to Image width
    4. Tab through to Image height - this should update? But it doesn't.
    5. Tab through to Percentage - height remains unchanged, but width is reset to original value.
I thought height should update when I did this.
    Now try this:
    1. Cancel out of Save for W&D and come back in, then repeat Step 1 above
    2. Unlink and immediately relink width and height using the chain button
    3. Update width
    4. Tab through to height and hey presto, it updates now.
So Save for W&D is not picking up the fact that "Retains original image proportions is checked" when the dialog is launched.
    Can anyone confirm this?
    Cheers
    Richard

  • When I export from Lr to CS3 my image size is 8x12 roughly, why?

I shoot RAW with a 5d mark2 I export from lr to cs3 in my workflow. I am wanting to create a gallery wrap at an image size of 24x36, when I go to create my negative space my exported image size from Lr is only 8x12, why would that be? I don't know what to do or how to make my image larger without loosing quality? I have never noticed this before? Why is it doing this now?

It will be the settings in your export menu.

  • Trouble Exporting images in full size

I can't seem to export an image with the original file size. I have reset the export image size to original jpeg settings and every setting I can find and it still exports a small low resolution file.

The setting you are wanting to change is the "Size to" pull down menu,
Original size is the original size of the file as cropped, uncropped you get pixel for pixel or if you happen to crop in on a small area of the image you will only get a small file.
Fit within pixels, great for screen and video use, eg 1024x768 or 1920x1080 etc
Fit within inches/centimeters, great for preset print sizes and creating different presets for different printers, eg. 10"x10" this is where dpi comes into effect.
Percentage of original, smaller or larger.
note that these settings do not crop the image or change a 2:3 image to a16:9 image, rather they constrain the image to fit within the dimensions. eg, I have an album of images to go to 5"x7" prints, vertical and horizontals, first I have to crop to 5x7, then I export to a preset that is 7"x7" @300dpi, this contrains the exported images to 7"@300dpi (2100pixels) on the longest side.

  • LR3-Library-Export-Image Resizing:  Specifying Pixel WxH results in different WxH - tips please?

This is a multi-dimensional question (he he).  I understand my problem is related to the original/developed WxH ratio.  If the pixel WxH I spec in Export-Image Resizing doesn't match that developed proportion, the results are not what I want.  In other words LR3 keeps the original/developed proportion and not what I want for that export.  Ok, so I just answered my own question - but..... please give me some library or export tips for doing what I want to do.
    What I do:
1 - I edit my images in RAW and like to keep them in their original proportions from my Canon camera as that is the proportion of HxW i use the most
2 - Later, if the image is really good (at least I like it), I may export it for different purposes and then may choose or require a different proportion.
3 - I would really like to not have to re-crop in Develop, then go back and Export, then go back to Develop and change it back to original.
Besides being tedious and time consuming, can anyone recommend a better way for me to do these "one off" exports (seems to happen more often lately) without screwing around in Develop and messing up my original work?
    Background:
One of the reasons I do this is to create wallpapers for computers, for various printing/framing proportions, and then for web site situations.  Windows XP (and I think the others) gets really slow if the program must re-size an image for wallpaper (why? go ask Mr. Gates... better get in line).  So to keep performance high, it is best to create the image in the exact pixel dimensions of the monitor.  This is always some weird number and not like anything else I do this for.  The other reason is for a quick, custom print job for someone who wants an odd matting setup for framing (don't ask).  This results in odd proportions.  Regarding the web.... well smooshing a pic into a column etc. etc...    Now while I am proud of my art and understand LR3 will expect me to re-crop to preserve my artistic brilliance, but really..... I would be happy with a proportional crop from the parallel sides of the offending dimension.
Also, when I spec a dimension, shouldn't the DPI gray out?  What am not understanding here?
One last request: please give me tips on solving for world peace... this one really bugs me.
    Thanx in advance!

    Bruce,
As you correctly noticed, the WxH ratio in export represents a canvas, into which the exported image is fit. Here are some illustrations on what the different settings mean:
For what you are trying to achieve, you have to crop the image to the correct dimensions before doing the export. If I had to do it, I would create virtual copies of the original image as the last step and give each virtual copy its own crop, then export the virtual copies.
    Bruce in Philly wrote:

The DPI resolution has no meaning for the size of the resulting image if you specify pixels in your export dimensions. But the resolution tag is written into the image, which might affect the way an image is printed, depending on the printing application.
But if you specify your export dimensions in inches or cm, the resolution together with the dimensions in inch/cm determine the size of the resulting image in pixels. I.e. if you specify 5x7" and 300DPI, your exported images size will be 1500x2100 pixels.

  • Adobe Fireworks CS5: A way to change an existing slideshow export image width and height?

I have an existing slide show with 8 albums with numerous images in each.  They have all been carefully labeled and sorted and placed.
The export image size was set, at one time, to 800 x 600 and everything displayed splendedly..
After just adding another album, all of a sudden, the images are displayed as 320 x 240.  I have not idea why this is and I can't seem to figure out how to change this without creating the entire slideshow from scratch because the fields for the image size are greyed out...
Can someone please let me know where I would find this knowledge?  I'm not very well versed in webdesign and only have this site and gallery using dreamwaever and fireworks through brute force...
    Very appreciative of any help!

  • Why jpeg file exported from Aperture with 300 dpi's it opens with 72 dpi's on PS ( image size)? I've tried several combinations and all give different results. And I am confused on what is the best workflow for me.

    Ok.
    My workflow is
RAW > Aperture Library > export jpeg high resolution 300 dpi's > one file on PS > edit > Save us jpeg. The I realised that files from PS were being save in a smaller size from the ones exported form Aperture. That is when I went o see <image size> on PS and files were with 72.
Since ten I've trying different things
    1. Aperture > export as PSD > open on PS > edit > Save us jpeg = small file (around 15 MB)
    2. Aperture > export as jpeg high resolution 300 dpi's > open on PS > CHANGE dpi's to 300 on <image size> edit > Save us jpeg = big file (Huge, actually)
What am I doing wrong? Would someone give me guidance and tell me what is the best workflow, considering I edit photos to deliver to my clients and I shall give them 300 dpi's.
    Thank you

  • Do I need to export multiple sizes for all standard print sizes? i.e.Say I crop the image in LR to 6'5" x 9' to fit within an 11" x 14" (overall) mat of a framed print.. Now let's say I want to reprint that same image in a 12" x 16" size ... to fit within

Do I need to export multiple sizes for all standard print sizes? i.e.Say I crop the image in LR to 6'5" x 9' to fit within an 11" x 14" (overall) mat of a framed print.. Now let's say I want to reprint that same image in a 12" x 16" size ... to fit within a mat of with overall size of 20" x 24"? Or will the 1st export be "locked" at 6.5" X 9" (proportionately)?

So, for the first one Export it cropped to 6.5 x 9 - and in the Export Dialog box there is a capability to rename the file for exported output - which would allow you to add something like the crop or intention to the base name of the file.  e.g. for _IMG0846.nef - setup the output filename to _IMG0846-65x9 for 11x14.jpg and output it at, say 300 or 360 dpi.  So, it has a unique name and purpose in your output folder.
For best results, now, re-crop the picture in LR - just open the crop [R] dialog again, reframe the image to the new ratio, 12x16 and Export again - with an adjustment to the filename. e.g. _IMG0846-12x16 for 20x24.jpg
So, now you have two clearly identified image files in your output area and you can provide those to whomever is printing for you, etc.  Discard them when you're done since you always have the original to return to to re-frame again as necessary.
This way you get output sharpening and resolution (in pixels) optimized for your output print size.  Maybe not super important for smallish prints-but more important for larger ones.   Output at 100 quality.

  • Exporting images changing sizes

    Hi,
I am exporting some artwork with is on an A4 sized canvas and when I place that image into pages its half sized. I have reopened the .png in illustrator and it shows the correct size. Does anyone know if this is a problem with Illustrator or if its just something thats happening because I'm using pages.

    Rebecca,
It sounds like a matter of choosing the right resolution, or image size in pixels by pixels, in connexion with your exporting it.

  • Transparency problems when I distort Pdf image size (ie: 100%x99%) then Export. Is there away to fix

I sometimes have transparency problems when I distort PDF image size (i.e.: 100%x99%) then Export. Is there away to fix.   Or at least be able to preflight and know I have an issue.

Mostly I have seen borders and drop shadows that will just go away or other wise not print right but only when I distort the image and only on very complicated large PDF images.  When I print it at same % both horz and vert. this problem goes away.

  • Small image size after exporting

    Hello,
When I export an image with dimesions of 4214x3371, the image size will show as 1.124x1.405''. This is a problem because I am trying to print my images on a 16x20'' canvas. My resolution is set at 3000ppi and I am exporting RAW files to an uncompressed TIFF file with my color space being ProPhoto RGB.
Any input would be appreciated, this is quite frusterating.

Let's see ... 4214 pixels divided by 3000 pixels per inch is um ... wait where's my calculator ... 1.405 inches!
of course, the whole calculation is meaningless, it has no effect on what gets printed
If you send a picture that is 4214x3371 pixels to be printed at 16x20 ... you ought to get decent prints at about 211 pixels per inch (where did that come from? 4214/20 inches is about 211 pixels per inch)
So, basically, you have enough pixels to do the print. The resolution number in the file is truly meaningless here, if you ignore it and do the math the way I did, you find out you are fine. If you try to interpret this meaningless number, well, you get misled seriously.
