Exported JPEG doesn't contain all EXIF data

Hi,
I'm using Übermind's Maperture plugin to add geotag information my pictures. While this works perfectly, I found out that exported geotagged pictures to JPEG missed the coordinates and possibly other EXIF fields. Is there a fix for this ?
Thanks
Matthieu

Here is the explanation from Ubermind, I emailed Apple. Hopefully they will cooperate.
"Why don't some images I have geotagged with Maperture export the GPS metadata with the image?
When embedding GPS metadata (EXIF) via Maperture in Aperture to either master or version images, the metadata is saved directly to the image file and displays in the metadata browser. When exporting master images, this newly embedded EXIF GPS information is also exported with the master. When exporting versions of any image with newly embedded GPS (EXIF) metadata, it is stripped away on export of the version. We are speculating that since Maperture edits the image after capture, it is out of sync with the Aperture database of information acquired at import. It seems the issue actually stems from the fact Aperture does not specifically allow editing of the EXIF metadata in the UI, but Maperture must edit this information in the background via EXIFtool. So Aperture is not registering this change in metadata when the version gets exported from the library."

  • When exporting a photo to photo library, all EXIF data is lost. What rational is behind this?

When exporting a photo to photo library, all EXIF data is lost.
    What rational is behind this?

Thanks for your reply on this!
One issue seems to be with Foto Library app itself. When running an auto-correct there it looks like EXIF will be stripped more or less completely.
Second issue is in iPhoto app on iOS when working on RAW. When exporting to the roll the EXIF is modified in a way. It was keeping most of the EXIF in case of Canon 5D MKII that I tested today, but the EXIF data is definately changed, e.g. lens type is different because maybe some fields are ignored there. Also the images are silently scaled down by 50% which is kind of annoying.
The initial problem was observed with a Pentax K7 and I will need to reproduce the issue in this config I assume. Maybe tomorrow I can do this.

  • App folder in the dock doesn't contain all the apps in the main Applications folder

I have noticed recently that the App folder in the dock doesn't contain all the apps in the main Applications folder (the correct one under Macintosh HD).
This occurs whether in list, grid, automatic or whatever.
I've removed the apps folder from the dock and dragged in the current one and yet it doesn't show all the apps from the source folder.
Any ideas on why this is happening or how I can fix it?
There are 55 items in the Apps folder but only 51 are shown in the folder located in the dock.
If I drag it over (as per normal operation), all 55 should appear right?
Is there a limit on how many can be displayed?
Can the grid spacing/icon size be changed to fit them all in if that's the case?
Just dunno why this is happening???
    Cheers

Not sure this is what you want, but if you are an admin user, try this instead. Right-click on /Applications (Applications in the hard drive icon folder, the root folder, not Applications in your user) and select Make Alias, then drag that alias into the Dock to the right of or below the divider (the Trash icon is in that area.) Your Applications will now open from that alias in the Dock. The "original" alias will remain in that location, while creating a new Applications folder in the Dock. I have done this for my home folder, Utilities, and Downloads as well.

  • Analyse big data in Excel? Why the dynamic tables doesn't take all the data from the source table.

    Hi,
I'm doing a internship in a production line.
My job is to recover production data (input data) and test data (output data) using various types of software (excel, BusinessObject sap, etc).
To this day, I have recovered hundreds of production data, and have also organized in excel but I need to analyze and plot them.
I would like to know who can give me an idea of how I could plot as much data and analysis.
Now i trying to use dynamic charts and plot some data but I did not get acceptable answers.
How could I compare, analyze and graph for example:
Five columns of production (input) with five (5) columns tested (data output).
    After graphing.
Someone can give me a technique to analyze data? ie I compare column by column?
or some other technique? as a conglomerate could analyze data?
o give you an idea of the contect, now I perform an internship in a manufacturing turbines.
My job is to analyze the input data (production) and to estimate the possible behavior of the turbines in the tests.
As I said, use dynamic tables in excel, but i have not idea why the dynamic tables doesn't  take all the data from the source table.
    I appreciate your advice
    Thanks

You can declare as PT source whole Columns [$A:$E], without rows number.
Then You'll have all actually data.

  • How to export and NOT include metadata or EXIF data

When I export versions, each photo has the metadata included. How do I export without any information in the photo?
Any exported photo I do and you open it in EXIF Viewer, all the camera info, exposure etc… is all there.
I export to JPG from NEF D300 files.

In the "Export Presets" you can de-select the option "Include metadata" at the top of the window. If you want to then you could create a new preset that does not include your metadata, so that you have one with and one without metadata.
When you export your files then be sure to select the correct preset.

  • Itunes doesn't see all the data on all my albums

I'm not sure if it's something I'm doing wrong, or what. I've got about 10GB of MP3's on my computer, when I open them on Windows Media Player or windows explorer I see all the info; album, artist, genre, everything, for all my files. when I add the files to itunes, I only get the info on about half the files, the rest just show the file names, but none of the other info. makes it hard to sort the files out, especially since itunes doesn't give you the option to see the file paths. of course since I didn't import the songs using itunes, it won't get the info from the internet.
    any ideas?

First off, I would STRONGLY suggest that a external hard drive would make you life much easier by at least being able to back up your songs on the external drive for when you need them. Even if you don't want them in the iTunes library, you can have them all ready on the external to be re-added as needed. You can get 100's of gigs for under $100 shipped.
Anyway, since you used Yamipod, are all the songs back on the computer? If so, I would go ahead and restore the iPod, let iTunes then resync everything back to the iPod, then switch it back to manual and see if the restore and resync clears up the issue.

  • LR2 Export jpeg slideshow stops before all slides exported

I have tried twice to export a slideshow of 300 slides. The first attempt stopped after 29 slides, the second stopped after 61 slides. No error messages appeared.
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, 4 GB memory and 179 GB free on my HDD.
How can I get LR2 to complete the export? Is this a bug?

Thank you. I checked the bug fix list for that release but couldn't see this one.
I tried the standard previews, but today's attempt exported only the first 7 files, followed by a file called "USA2008_3-007.jpeg.swp", then stopped.
I've decided to give up on this as we had no success with what we wanted to do. The slides were intended for import into Premiere Elements to produce a slideshow for use on a PAL TV, so I exported the slides at 720 x 576 (which my research tells me is the correct resolution for PAL TV) but when the resulting slideshow was played on TV the captions at the bottom of the slides were cut off. So, I will simply export the pictures from the Library module and use those.
    Thanks for the responses anyway!

  • TS4009 all of my audio purchases from itunes are stored on my iphone which is taking up all of my memory. can i back them up to icloud? i tried to sync with my itunes library, but the library on my computer doesn't contain all of my songs.

All of my purchases from iTunes are stored on my iPhone and taking up all of my memory. I want to store the music in iCloud if possible, but I can't get it to work. I tried to sync my phone to iTunes, but the library on my computer is all screwed up! I backed up my library to my harddrive, but now a lot of the songs aren't there and the ones that are there have multiple duplicates! If I try to sync my phone to my computer I'm afraid it will sync to the current library on my computer and I will lose all of the music on my phone! HELP this is driving me crazy!

There's a menu choice (I think under "Files") that lets you sync purchased items on a device back to itunes.  Look for that.
iCloud does not store music.  If you want to do that you'd have to subscribe to itunes Match, but to get music to the match servers, you need the music in the itunes library on your computer.

  • Wrong EXIF data for JPEGs in Bridge and PS

    Hello,
My Nikon D300 files are not being properly read by Bridge and Photoshop. RAW files are fine. When I get file info for JPEGs, though, much of the EXIF data is corrupted. For instance, ISO Speed is shown as "51200" instead of 500, and Focal Length is shown as "2.0 mm" instead of 140mm, etc. This incorrect data shows up in Bridge (in the metadata panel and file info) as well as the file info dialog box in Photoshop.
When I get the EXIF info in Preview.app, all the info is correct.
Anyone know what might be going on?

Update - this problem is not limited to my D300 files. I just realized that the JPGs from my Canon SD800IS point & shoot are also not being "seen" properly by the Adobe apps. The ISO value doesn't even show up in CS3 apps, but I can see that data in Preview.app.

  • IPhoto '08 corrupts EXIF data on export

    Hello All,
In using iPhoto '08 (including the latest update to 7.1) I am noticing the when I export files the EXIF data is getting corrupted.
My original files are fine--all EXIF data shows up properly, and galleries which I post to that are capable of displaying EXIF data display it just fine. However, when I export a file from iPhoto to JPG format, the galleries are unable to display the EXIF data. Using the Firefox extension, 'EXIF Viwer' ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3905 ), I see there are errors in the data (screenshot here: http://jaaulde.com/exif_viewer.png )
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Jim

    Jim:
It may be the server side software that's causing the problems. Another thread went thru something like this extensively and we found that files from some cameras, Canons for one, are not read properly by the software. We've downloaded the files and read the EXIF data and it was all there. I have a gallery of files from various cameras as an example: http://gallery.mac.com/toad.hall/100196. Click on the "i" button in the slideshow and you'll see those that get the EXIF data correct, primarily the shutter speed, and those that do not. I don't remember the thread but you can search this forum for "EXIF web gallery" or similar.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance. iPhoto doesn't not have to be closed to run it, just idle.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • EXIF data stripped on export??

Why on earth would FW strip a photo's exif data when exporting? Web graphics are sometimes contractually required to retain metadata. This opens users up to liability if they don't realize that a photographer's credit is removed during compression.
Is there any way to have this reversed??

I'm aware of the fact that image copying is widespread. This is why exif data is often a requirement to inclusion in web-displayed images; it reduces liability of web publishers, because we've done all we can to prevent copyright attribution from being removed from the image. Are you aware that many photographers' contracts stipulate harsh penalties for publishers who remove metadata from provided files?
Photoshop has 2 problems. The first is that it seems impossible to automate a batch to export a folder of images with "save for web" settings. All my research suggests that it's impossible without digging into actual scripting, rather than relying on actions.
The second problem is that the fireworks "save for web" option is roughly 40% more efficient than the photoshop method, for comparable compression artifacts. I have no idea why photoshop wouldn't use the more efficient fireworks algorithm, but it simply doesn't.
In the past I've used imageready, which provided slightly better compression ratios than photoshop, retained all exif data, and allowed the creation of droplets. With the nonsensical removal of imageready from photoshop, and its replacement with the comparatively crippled fireworks (the compression efficiency is nice, no droplets is tolerable, but exif stripping is unforgivable in this day and age), I'm left searching for a product that will serve my needs.

  • EXIF data lost when edited and exported to Picasa web

I use iPhoto 6. If a geotagged photo is scaled and exported to Picasa web, then the EXIF data are preserved and recognized by Picasa web. But if the same photo is edited (crop, contrast...) and then exported to Picasa web, then the EXIF data don't appear. I've tried the export operation manually and through the plugin, but it always happens the same. How to avoid this? Does it happen too with iPhoto 8? Thanks.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes and no. With iPhoto 8 you can export with an option to include the keywords, titles and comments. But I don't know if geotags are included. Ask in the iPhoto 8 forum as I know geotags have been discussed there. Do a search in that forum for "geotags" or similar.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

    Joshua,
You can use the Data Pump import and export utilities to export and import an entire database (or traditional import and export utilities if pre-10g database).

The export is not to a text file, though.
