Exported JPG Versions too small

Exported "original size JPGs" from Raw Masters. The file size I was expecting was between 3 and 5 MB but they come out 350kb more or less. If I choose double HD they come out around 1mb...
Any idea why this is?
Thanks for any help!

As you export the version and select the Original size Jpeg, go to the bottom of the list of presents and select edit. Then take a look at the pixel size that is chosen for the original size export. Perhaps that setting has been scaled back to a 800 x 600 or smaller. You can change the pixel size to match your original and go from there.

  • Aperture 3.6 not exporting jpg versions at 300dpi despite preset selected

Hi, Aperture 3.6 is not exporting jpg versions (of Nikon RAW) files at 300dpi despite 300dpi being selected in the preset.
Jpgs are being exported at 72dpi although Tiffs are being exported correctly.
I'm guessing it's a recurrence of the previous Aperture bug but while we wait for a fix, does anyone have a solution please?
I'm currently exporting Tiffs and then using a Photoshop batch action to save as jpgs - not a great workflow!

  • Exported images are too small

I shoot in raw and when I export images to photo labs the size is too small. Instead of mb, the size is reduces to kb.  I have export set for tiff 16 bit.  What am I doing wrong?

    Can't say without more information.
What command are you using to export?
What Export Preset are you selecting?
What are the settings in your selected Export Preset?
Presets and settings are listed at "Aperture→Presets→Image Export ...".

  • Exported file dimensions too small

I can not figure out what is happening at export to give me such small files. I have searched and searched online and read all I can but I am still without answers. Any help you may be able to provide me with I will be so appreciative for.
This is my work scenario. I shoot on Cannon 50D in raw (15 mp). Upload the images to computer and import to Lightroom. I make my adjustmenst in Lightroom and many images I pull from Lightroom into Photoshop CS5 and do additional artistic touches there. I save from Photoshop so that it re-opens it back in Lightroom with my Photoshop adjustments. After I have done this with all of my images I then export the images my clients select for their purchased disc. This where I am concerned...
What I know had once started out as large raw files are quite small by the dimension size, average approximate dimensions are 4750x3170. File settings are set to quality 100 and under Image Sizing I do not have 'resize to fit' checked. On occasion I have used the crop feature in Lightroom but not on many images and all of my images are small not just certain ones.
I am fairly new to Lightroom but nervous about using it right now. I am actually postponing editing a new session until I can get some clear answers or I may just have to tackle the whole session in Photoshop like I used to because I will at least know that file sizes will not decrease in size.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

When I do re-open the file that has been edited and exported in Photoshop I show a Document size of 9.083x13.627 with res at 300. My pixel dimension is 31.9M.
How can I print a 16x24 or 24x36 etc with a file sized like this?
The required resolution for a specific print size depends primarily on the "viewing distance." See this article by Jeff Schewe:
    http://www.digitalphotopro.com/technique/workflow/the-right-resolution.html
If your client is doing a large poster that will be viewed from two feet or more then 140 dpi should be fine. The 50D's 4752 x 3168 "uncropped" resolution equates to 34" x 22.6" at 140 dpi, so the maximum standard print size is 30" x 20." That said I've made some great looking 24" x 16" enlargements with a Canon 300D (3,027 x 2,048), which are only 126 dpi. It really depends on the detail in the picture and the target paper type. Prints on canvas material can only resolve about 150 dpi maximum and there is little benefit using higher resolution. Glossy paper provides the highest image resolution capability (300 dpi+), but will only look sharper when viewed at shorter distances (i.e. less than two feet). For smaller handheld prints (i.e. 4" x 6", 5" x 7") 300 dpi or higher will give you the best results.

Why are my files now showing 9x13 for the size?
In PS go to the toolbar Image> Image Size. PS calculates the image dimensions based on the 'Resolution' box setting (i.e. 300 dpi). If you want to see the picture dimensions at a different resolution enter that number (i.e. 140 dpi) in the 'Resolution box.

  • Exporting Issues - Video TOO SMALL when exporting

You can probably tell this, but this is my first time using Premiere after using Final Cut Pro for years.  I have edited a fairly long sequence, but when I went to export, it exports all of the sequence into a small window with lots of black around it.  Also, if I set the sequence window to "fit," it looks like this.  The actual source file from which I pulled all my clips don't have any of these issues.  They fit normally and have no black area around them.  I have messed around with all the settings I can find.  I usually don't resort to posting questions on forums... please help!

    Welcome to the forum.
As Harm states, this is due to a mis-match between your source footage, and your Project/Sequence Preset.
What are the full specs. of your source footage? Your Project Preset MUST match that.. If there is not a Preset that does match, you can choose Desktop and then adjust the parameters of it to fit your footage.
When the above is done, you can Export to all sorts of Frame Sizes, and things will be fine, but you need to match that Project to the footage.
    That will handle it.
    Good luck,

  • Reduced Jpg Version Export Quality

Has anyone else experienced diminished sharpness in exported jpg versions from Aperture?
I recently tried the automator script for exporting images directly to Keynote, what should have been a great facilitator for developing slideshows. I noticed softness in the keynote rendering, so I went back and exported master tifs from Aperture and then ran them through the image processor script in Photoshop CS2. Even when both programs have identical output parameters (jpg, fit to 1024x768, quality 12), the Photoshop image holds sharpness better through the process.
While the difference is not staggering, it is there to the critical eye. I'd be happy to share an example image comparison, but I'd also like to hear if anyone else notices this difference when they reproduce the comparison. (make sure you go to Manage Presets in Aperture and set quality to 12 for the jpg output and use the same setting in image processor for consistency).
    Thanks,
    Mark

I uploaded a side-by-side compare of Preview showing the exported image and what A2 shows with softproofing set to sRGB. The exported file was done with JPG, sRGB, original size, and max quality. There is clearly something wrong. I've tried export TIFF and other variations but can't get better results. If you click the below then select "All Sizes" at the top of the page the difference is totally obvious.

  • In iPhoto 11 imported tiff files remain tiff after editing.  I need to convert to large file jpegs. How? using the "export" function they become too small

I thought imported tiff files would be converted by iPhoto to JPEGS in previous versions of iPhoto.  this might have been a disadvantage but my current project requires JPEGs as the final product.
    thanks for any guidance
    Jim

Drag the photo from the iPhoto window to the desktop or export as kind = JPEG
As to too small - what is too small?  The pixel dimensions of the exported JPEG will be identical to the original TIFF - the file size is smaller because JPEGs are compressed - which of course reduces file size - which of course is the reason that JPEG exists

  • Why is the version file smaller than the original file, although I didn't make changes in the file? And why is the keywords don't exporting with original files?

Hi! Why is the version file smaller than the original file, although I didn't make changes in the file? And why is the keywords don't exporting with original files?

Wild guess: you're using the the wrong export settings. You'll need to tell us more before we can help you - like the export settings you're usng, the size and format of the originals etc.

  • Volume too Small for Versions?

Anyone else see this message yet:
The document “mydocument.numbers” is on a volume that is too small to support permanent version storage.
The volume in question is a 100MB disk image with 93MB free space remaining. My Numbers file is 200KB.  Seems to me there is plenty of space. I could store nearly 500 full versions in that amount of space.

I had the same problem re disc image size and previous versions. After lots of experimentation, I found that if you create the disk image( sparse or otherwise, encrypted or otherwise) with a size of 600MB or bigger then this problem seems to go away.

Is threre something I need to do on GoDaddy to ensure the phone and tablet versions display correctly?

  • Font too small/faint in Version 4.1.4

I recently erased the Palm files on my computer.  When I put them back on, both the font size and boldness on the desktop are too small and too faint.  I've looked for ways to make them larger and/or bolder in order to make them more readable, but have not been able to find anything.  Does anyone have any advice?  I know part of the problem is my failing eyesight, but surely others have had the same problem?  Thanks.
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

Using "regedit" I was able to change the font size larger for use with the Palm Desktop software.
Run "regedit" and export (save) a backup copy for safety
        File  >  Export
      Search for "FontSmall"
Edit  >  Find  >  Find what  >  FontSmall
Click on FontSizeGeneral and change the "Value data" to 16
      Exit "regedit"
Run Palm Desktop software and enjoy the new legible font size!
      Notes:
      1) The location of the Palm Desktop software on my system using "regedit" is:
            HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop\Core
            * Your location of the Palm Desktop software may differ.
      2) I tested this on monitors using resolutions of 1280 x 1024 and 1024 x 768
The font size is noticeably readable and much, much better
      3) You may also change the font family from the default (Arial) to another, such as Verdana, etc.
FontCard    (Changes the font family in the side panels)
FontGeneral    (Changes the font family for most of the program fonts)

  • I'm trying to export my masters to use in Lightroom, can't get the ratings to export. Tried writing the IPTC to masters and exporting with an IPTC4XMP file, no luck. These are all .jpg files. The ratings export OK if I export the versions. Any suggestions

I'm trying to export my Aperture masters to use in Lightroom, can't get the ratings to export. Tried writing the IPTC data to the masters and adding the IPTC4XMP file when exporting, neither worked. The ratings show up in Lightroom if I export the versions. These are all .jpg's that I am exporting. Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks

    There are two problems here:
    1) Aperture does not modify its "original" files on export.  Meaning with the JPEG files that Aperture will NOT modify them, and it will not write IPTC data to them.  It exports the XMP sidecar files, as you're seeing.
    2) Adobe will NOT read IPTC sidecar files for non-RAW images.  So if it sees a JPEG file, it will not look for an XMP sidecar file.  It just doesn't read them, so the data won't be imported by Lightroom.
If you are using JPEG files, then probably the solution is to check the box in Aperture to tell it to write XMP metadata to the original files.  They're not RAW files, so they're not proprietary in any way, so writing the XMP metadata to the JPEG files is probably pretty safe.

  • Get too small pictures when exporting from Lightroom

I shoot in both cr2 (23 MB) and Small-jpeg. Afterwards I upload the pictures to Lightroom and have the appear in the catalog as one picture. Here I make all the editing and when I export the picture back to my harddrive as a jpeg I can only get a file of 3-500 kb. I know I have made some croping - but not that much. It is like Lightroom is working on the jpeg picture and not my cr2 picture. Do anyone have a clue to what I am doing wrong? It may be a setting?

The size of the cr2 file i 21 MB (and it has a jpeg sister of 930 kb) - and the picture is cropped - but how do I read the cropped dimension? As I am shooting bird picture I normally crop a lot - but my picture are still of an ok size
I can see your screenshot, and looking at the actual pictures that were exported (thumbnails in the filmstrip at the bottom) helps understand why the jpg files are small: your pictures are mostly a smooth blue background (sky) with a tiny bird in the picture. These files are highly compressible in the jpg format, as there isn't a lot of detail in them. I would expect that the resulting file size would be rather small, even if the original files were large.
