Hi,
When I export a misic video as an .MOV file it is 1. extremely large and 2. faded like the saturation was reduced.
Does anyone have settings for exporting MOV files of a 3 minutes music video so that it will come in under 415 MB.
Could someone help me figure out how to compensate for the desaturation?

Exporting movie file from iPhoto

I have a Panasonic Lumix that takes both still photos and movies. The movies and still photos are transferred from the memory card to iPhoto. I would like to use some of the movie clips (.mov format) in an iMovie project. I transferred the movie files from iPhoto to an external hard drive by using the File > Export function. All appeared to go well. When opening the transferred file on the external hard drive, the file size is much smaller than one would expect and the cursor goes right from the beginning to the end as if it was a still photo. In the export function box, the "kind" options include original, current, JPEG, TIFF. I chose current. It does not give an option for file size. The movie file opens and works fine in iPhoto but not the same file transferred to the external hard drive. To make matters worse, I deleted many of the iPhoto movie files after transferring them to the external hard drive and so they are lost forever. Is iPhoto not designed to export movie files ? Any suggestions ? Thanks in advance

Is there any way to export an entire album of both movies and photos at once? I want to set the movies to export as original and the photos as JPEG, HIGH, with Metadata. Possible?
No. The export window will only take one set of criteria at a time.

Exporting .Mov files at 24fps for Final Cut Pro 5

I work at an animation production house and we're trying to export .mov files from QT 7.1.2 at 24fps so they won't have to be rendered in a FCP project which is a 720p project with a frame size of 1280x720, we're experimenting with two codecs. We're using Motion Jpeg A and Photo Jpeg, selecting 24fps but for some reason they import into FCP 5 at 10fps. It's as though QT isn't outputting accurate 24fps .mov files. When I export .mov files from FCP they import back into FCP without having to be rendered. What's the difference between the ones exported from QT vs. the .mov files exported from FCP. We're using the exact same settings and files....? The reason we need to use QT to do this is because it needs to be a somewhat automated process (lots of stills to work with) and our PA's are working on Windows with QT only.

You should post your inquiry at Final Cut Pro section for better support. Anyway, Final Cut Pro does not always recognize the frame rate correctly, depending on which application (and possibly which codec) you used to compress video. For example, Snapz Pro X and Adobe After Effects don't get along with Final Cut Pro in this respect. Furthermore, compressing video in H.264 will be a bad idea. So simply adjust the size of Canvas so that it won't cover the whole screen. In this way, you can even replay video on Canvas and even send it for final production.

File size can be a compromise between bitrate, file size, and quality.

Problem exporting .mov file

I'm trying to export a :30 second sequence using quicktime conversion to a .mov file. I use the default settings with the H.264 codec and uncompressed 16 bit audio. (I've also tried a few other settings with Sorenson and Sorenson 3) The same thing happens everytime. The export takes forever (about 20 minutes) then stops when the progress bar gets to about 79%. A general error comes up. On some occasions, I have also gotten a notice that says my startup disk is close to full. This is confusing because all my drives have at least 10gb of space available on them.
It was suggested in another thread that this could be a result of a corrupt media or render file. If so, how does one determine that this is the cause? It was also said that bad RAM might be to blame.
Any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't jump right into upgrading as a fix at this point, since your program shouldn't have any trouble exporting a simple Quicktime, and the upgrade to Final Cut Studio from FCP 3 is $799 USD. That isn't full price, but still may be a bit steep if you've chosen to keep using FCP 3 for so long. Although I will say that subsequent versions include many improvements that you might actually appreciate so keep it in mind.
Have you tried exporting using Quicktime Conversion from any other projects with any other clips? That would also be a good idea, to narrow down the problem. Did you try exporting a Quicktime Movie using Current Settings? I realize that may not be adequate for your final intention, but it would help the troubleshooting as well.
I once had a problem exporting a clip from FCP and after trying everything, I recaptured the clip and it ended up working. There were no visible glitches or skips in the video to indicate that the clip itself would have been corrupt, but turns out it was. So if you can recapture, since it's only a 60-second clip, maybe give that a whirl.
You should also trash your FCP prefs (search for com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist on your sytem drive and delete that file), repair your permissions (in Disk Utility), and restart.

Troubleshooting a start up script can be difficult. There are some third party programs that also keep logs of start up programs, however for Firefox this may be different.

Tabs: previous versions allowed for saving all tabs in a bookmark folder. The new tab groups do not behave this way. How can I save permanent set of tabs as a group that is available later, like the folder of bookmars was?

tabs: previous versions of firefox allowed for saving all tabs with a group name, so you could open them all again later at your convenience. The new firefox 4.0.1 has a new tab feature, but the tab groups do not seem to persist once you shut down, and are not saved as a folder in your bookmarks. What am I missing? Right click one of the tabs, the "Bookmark all tabs..." option.

You have to swipe from right to left to delete mail.
In the settings, accessibility you can make fonts bolder, that helps a bit.
THe yellow paper...sorry, no tweak for that unless you find a different notes app to use.

If you have an iCloud account and Find My Device was enabled on the iPad, you could try to find it using the iCloud.com web site. Otherwise there is no way to find it.
You need to change all your online passwords immediately; notify the airport at which it went missing from your luggage (assuming it was at an airport); notify the police; notify your insurance company so you can get reimbursed and buy a new one; move on.

Am I the only one who keept turning down Infinity?

With all the posts on these forums from people complaining that the Infinity roll-out in their area has been delayed again, I wonder if I'm the only one who repeatedly turns down BT's offers to upgrade to Infinity?
The trouble is that I re-contracted earlier this year to get a better deal on my broadband and phone. In addition to tweaking the package I was on, BT gave me a £6 per month discount on every bill.
At the time, I didn't consider that Infinity was likely to arrive on my exchange any time soon, because it's a small edge-of-town one, and not even upgraded to 21CN yet. Nevertheless, while BT Wholesale have dithered over upgrading the exchange to ADSL2/2+, Openreach have been busily laying fibre and upgrading cabinets. So my exchange now has Infinity, but only 8M ADSL.
I've now had three phone calls from BT salespeople, in addition to the letters and emails, all trying to sell me Infinity. And all expect me to pay the full price with no discount.
Quite frankly, I don't really need more than 8M at the moment, and I'd rather keep the discount. With any luck, the exchange will be upgraded at the end of this year (it's due to be done in December), so I may be getting close to 20M anyway by the time renewal comes around.

For years my average download speed was approx` 5Mb to 6Mb. Then unexpectedly a few weeks back whilst doing a random BT-Speed Test I was surprised (nicely surprised) to find that my connection speed was up to 19Mb and my new download speed was nearly 17Mb. I`d no emails from Bt. The exchange where I live is not in line for infinity for years (according to the engineer I spoke to who works there). I have reset the phone clearing all the data and updated to the most recent software version available from itunes; and still no improvements. The results of my switching to a new phone would indicate a software issue.
Does anyone out there have this problem and how can it be fixed?

The export movie file could not be created

I have made a slideshow in iPhoto08 and attempting to export it to +iDVD by Share --> Send to iDVD+. The first window message I see is that the request is hanging up on
+You have selected a single photo. Send just one photo to iDVD?+
I click on
+Send whole slideshow+
and then get a new window with the message noted in the subject line.
Any ideas on how to get this to run? I've used iPhoto ---> iDVD for creating slideshow dvds for years and not ever come across this issue before. The upgrade to iLife08 was recent and this is my first time attempting the slideshows and export.

iPhoto still tripped on the whole one photo vs. entire slideshow querie window, but it coded the slideshow and sent it to iDVD -- which is what I need.
That pop up is normal. It gives you a choice between a single photo or the entire slideshow.
Strike all that -- I got it! I moved photos over to the +users -- shared folder+ and was able to import the pictures from there to the new user account. It might be a band aid but it will get me through my current deadlines.
Glad you found a work around. I hope you did not put the iPhoto Library in the shared folder, but just exported the pictures you needed and put them there.
If the issue is happening in only 1 user account, and it happens in multiple iPhoto Libraries in that user account, and you pulled all the plists and caches I indicated, then something else in that user is interfering with iPhoto / Quicktime.
Are you perhaps running File Vault in that user? (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8738.html)
If not I suppose the next step would be to isolate what file(s) in that user could be at fault.
Read all below before you decide to proceed:
A "shotgun" approach to quickly isolate the issue would be to remove the preferences for the user having the issue. Keep in mind that removing the plist file for a program makes that program revert back to it's default state. Use caution when moving plists.
To remove all preferences for your user:
Close all programs
Make a new folder on the desktop.
Go to Home > Library > Preferences
Remove the contents of the Preferences folder to the new folder you created.
Make sure the Preferences folder is empty when you are done and that the folder on the desktop has all the preferences.
Restart the computer.
Test iPhoto (Do not any program but iPhoto.)
If the issue is resolved then we know it was a bad plist in preferences.
You can restore the com.apple.mail plist and com.apple.ichat (there may be more than one) to your Preferences folder and restart the computer.
You will have to do things like put your icons back in the dock.
