  • Exported Movies From iMovie Won't Play on ATV2

I'm trying to make a DVD (more about that on another thread - iDVD ARGH!) for my kids nursery. I have 25 minutes of footage which I just want to split into two, title up and burn to disc or make available for download. The footage came from a Flip camera. If I convert to MP4 using Handbrake the entire clip plays really well on my Apple TV 2 via iTunes. If I caption or put titles on a clip and export from iMovie the content will not play on the ATV2. Anyone got any tips?

Well, tried to play the files in itunes and they don't, just sit there waiting to play but never start! The one I put back through Handbrake does play though so I have a workaround. However, I don't think I should be having to do this should I? I know iDVD is flaketastic but thought iMovie was pretty solid. Maybe some prefs that are wrong somewhere?
Edit: Just realised that I've been a bit light on detail there. Opened Handbrake, selected the file I exported from iMovie (rather than published to iTunes) and then chose the ATV2 preset, set frame rate to PAL (I know I didn't need to do this), put a HB suffix on the file, created the file and then added it to my iTunes library.

  • Exported Movie from FCP 7 to Quicktime. Audio is only bad on ONE COMPUTER with ONE HEADPHONES, why?

Exported the movie from FCP 7 into a Quicktime video, one problem.
Have three computers...the audio sounds great on all of them when using headphones #1 (http://www.amazon.com/iHome-LifeTalks-Basic-Headset-Black/dp/B001QXDMVE/ref=sr_1 _8?ie=UTF8&qid=1407521145&sr=8-8&keywords=ihome+headset). Audio also sounds great coming out of two stereo systems.
But with headphones #2, a cheap pair of "Skull candy" headphones, the audio sounds great on computers 1 and 2, but when I listen to my video on computer 3, there is heavy static and backround noise, like a radio station that is out of tune. Everything else I listen to on computer 3 with headphones 2 sounds totally normal.
How is such a thing possible?
What steps can I take to "fix the audio"? I already "normalized the audio" (All audio was: .WAV files, recorded with a zoom H2 recorder). Could this be a hardware issue of some kind? This computer is an AspireX1430 bought 2 years ago, with whatever sound card it came with. I'd hate to put my video online only to find out later that for certain viewers the audio won't plan on their system.
    Thoughts? Thank you!

    Thanks!
Yeah it is crazy to me that everything with this headphones and computer sounds normal, except for my one video!  Other youtube videos even sound good!
Sent the video to our marketing department it will be mass emailed to 5000 customers shortly
I feel confident enough...the video sounds great on 4/5 computers at least and probably a lot more!!!!

  • Qt 7 plays my .mov t fcp won't play

My sad story starts like this:
I have a bunch of MTS files. After many hours of reading, I bought the ClipWrap software.
    I am running FCP 6.0.6
Now I have a bunch of MOV files, which play fine on QT 7.
Unfortunatly, fcp won't play these files. I get an OUT OF SPACE error.
    Any ideas?

You did not use ClipWrap correctly. You used it to simply unwrap the media to QuickTime. You need to transcode the media in ClipWrap to ProRes.

  • .mov from iPhone won't play when downloaded using mail

And when my daughter sends me movies from her iPhone. Some play, some don't when downloaded using Apple Mail. They all play when downloaded using Gmail. They all play within the mail App on my iPad.
When viewing the information on these files in Finder, the difference seems to be that in the ones that do play, a codec appears likeTin the image:

    Scuba Steve,
Sorry, I did click on varkgirl's link instead of yours at first. But clicking on your link, I think I know what you problem is. I think that you problem is that the footer on your page is obscuring the movie controller bar and not letting you click on it. I've been trying to tell people on this forum off and on to pay attention to the values in the Inspector Page tab. What you need to do first is to go under the View menu and select "Show Layout" so you can see what is happening. Now go to the Inspector and click on the Page tab. You will see a set of values that define your page dimensions. What you need to do is to adjust the value for Content Height so that it actually encompasses all of your page content. The space for page content actually dynamically resizes things as you drag them down the page, but this value never changes from the default. It has always been my feeling that this leads to problems in the rendering of pages (depending on browser) because it gives the browser some leeway in how it renders the footer-to-body transition. This can lead to shifting of images up the page or something like you have, which is inadvertant obscuring of elements by the footer element.
So adjust the Content Height to something like 1100. You should see the footer bar in the layout move down. Now fine adjust it so that it is closer to the bottom of your QT movie without obscuring the controller bar. Now republish. I think that you will see that you controller bar now works. BTW. Double clicking on the movie frame will always work as play/pause, too, as you have found.
Let me know if this solves your problem.

  • QT Web Movie from FCP looks and Plays Choppy!

    Hi guys,
I finished a 4 miniute music video in FCP3. It was shot on Canon XL2 with 24p, 16:9. My "QT web movie looks and plays very choppy".
Here are my steps and settings:
    FCP>File>Export>quicktime.
    Video settings:
    . Video Compression Codec= Sorenson Video3
    . Compression Quality= Medium
    . Motion Frames Per Second= 15fps
    . Keyframes Every= 300 frames
    . Bitrate: 90 kbits/sec
    Sound Settings:
    . Audio Compressor= IMA 4:1
    . Rate= 32.000 KHz
    . Size= 16 bit
    . Use= Mono
    Please Help!
    Thanks,
    ZIA

Sounds like a field or interlacing issue, Zia.
Maybe you had interlaced checked when it should have been progressive on export.
Or maybe the other way round - hard to see from where I sit.
Any of the fcp stuff done in Motion ? - 'coz sometimes motion does not get things right and you have to manually tell it what it needs to know.
Cntrl/Right click a clip >Reveal Source (I think its called).

  • Exporting MOV from FCP

I'm trying to export small sections of 720p footage from my timeline so I can can do some keying in Boris Red. What I've been doing is selecting the video, hitting enter to pop it up into the viewer, then exporting the clip using file:export:quicktime movie. I've set the clip to be self-contained and tried a variety of codecs. The problem is that when I export the file it's not adhering to the in and out points set in the viewer or even the length of the clip. I've tried every codec and the only one that worked was exporting it as a generic Uncompressed 10bit file but then it's too small when I get into Boris so I have to scale it up to 150% and, of course, the quality of the video suffers.
    Any ideas?
    -Matt

    You want REGION Select.
This thread discusses a number of ways to export short segments/clips/regions.

  • Exported movies freeze and won't play.

Whenever exporting an iMovie project, (i'm using iMovie HD, although I do have iMovie '08, and if i'm correct, the problem started when I tried using iMovie '08.) the finished movie's video will always freeze about halfway through, while the audio will continue to play. This happens regardless of what I am exporting it as (mpeg, .mov, .avi, etc.). Anybody else have this problem and/or know what to do about it?

I have had that problem, and worse in that it wouldn't export at all, if my iMovie is composed of many, many clips or has many added audio clips.
My solution is to 'share' as quicktime, full-quality, resulting in a quicktime movie of my iMovie. I then open a new iMovie project, import this new quicktime movie and export that back to my camcorder. It works perfectly!
I also will use the new iMovie with the quicktime movie in iDVD if my original iMovie stutters or skips on playback.
You will have to redo chapter markers as they do not 'share' to quicktime.
The only caution is that you need enough free drive space to create the quicktime movie. It should be smaller in GB size than the original iMovie as it keeps only the footage actually in the timeline. If the quicktime version plays ok, you can delete the original iMovie.

  • Exporting movies from FCP to go into Avid

I've just been told that the guy making the actual DVD of my current programme is using Avid - so I need to export my finished movies in the best format for him to import.
Which format should I choose for maximum quality and minimum hassle at his end?
    Tom

No this is just a miniDV project - Corporate website thing.
Obviously I want to give him the highest spec possible (the clips are edited and finished, just need putting into the dvd and web version).
I'm assuming Export > Quicktime Movie is the best quality, but this makes a file called Final Cut Pro Movie, with the FCP icon and with no .mov on the end.
I'm fairly sure that other systems can't read these. (They are what I use when I'm making DVDs myself, however).
I can use Quicktime with Conversion of course, where I think MPEG-4 is the best available, but he now tells me he wants Quicktime files.
Now. If I open a 339.4 MB Final Cut Pro Movie in Quicktime, then Save As a Quicktime, it makes a 'proper' Quicktime movie, with the correct icon and .mov on the end - but the file is now only 12 KB, so obviously it's been compressed.
I need to send him QT movies at the best res, that he can open on an Avid.

I failed to mention that the sound does play on the videos that are not playing.

  • Firefox won't play videos from YouTube, Hulu, etc. w/latest Flash version.

Despite following both Firefox and Flash directions, Firefox won't play videos from YouTube, Hulu, etc. They either never load or they load and freeze within seconds. Before I got the latest versions of Firefox and Flash, I did not have this problem. So there must be a problem in one or both of them. Since I understand from various websites that this is a widespread problem, can Firefox fix this? It's a major flaw in the latest Firefox version.

'''If you are running Adblock Plus...'''
While on a YouTube page, right click the ABP icon and "open blockable items".
When the window opens at the bottom of the page, right click this line: http://s.ytimg.com/yt/swfbin/watch_as3-vfl9DouAr.swf (or some variation) , then "Disable Filter".

  • Export settings from FCP

What export setings have you found the best from FCP to use in DVD Pro. I keep getting a stretched picture on import.

Export a self-contained or reference movie from FCP (File->Export->QuickTime Movie). Include chapter markers (if any) but do NOT recompress all frames.
For best results, use the appropriate DVD preset in Compressor with the exported file to create an MPEG-2 (.m2v) video file and a Dolby Digital (.ac3) audio file.
Import those two files into DVD-SP of authoring and burning.

  • Flash player won't play videos in safari after I've installed Lion does anyone have a solution?

    Hi,
I've installed Lion after which Flash Player won't play videos with Safari. I keep being prompted to download and install the latest version of Flash Player whcih I've done several times. Can someone please help me fix this.
I find Adobe's announcement that there are no issues with Flash Player and Lion a bit of a sick joke.
    Many thanks,
    Ian Pickering

This sounds like the problems that Adobe have reported which are listed at
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/905/cpsid_90508.html#main_Flash_Player
I only use flash for watching video clips on the BBC website so haven't been affected by these other issues. The text below is copied from the website at the above link. Hope this helps.
The Flash Player Settings dialog box doesn't respond to mouse clicks. As a workaround, press the Tab key to move to the Close button and press the spacebar to close the dialog box. While not all settings are available, you can also use the Flash Player native control panel in System Preferences.
Custom native mouse cursors don't animate properly on Mac OS 10.7.
