Exported movie plays back fast

Hi all, new poster on the apple discusions forum but wondered if anybody out there could help me.
I created my first movie from iMovie last night, the footage is HD from A Sanyo Xacti 1000 camera (had problems getting the footage in the night before but thanks to these boards found a solution)
Anyway cut a quick movie exported to AppleTV, created my m4v file, played back on ATV and the video footage appears to be running fast, almost like it's dropping frames but smooth. Audio was fine too... Anyone got any bright ideas?
Thanks tim

Hi.
Best thing to do is to set Imovie'08's movie format to NTSC, even though the TV standard in the UK is PAL.
But since you work ith non intelaced footaged, this will just change the frame rate iMovie works with to 30fps (29.97 exactly) instead of 25.
Since all Xactis shoot at 29.97 or 59.94, this setting is much better for them.
And it totally eliminated any choppiness effect for me.
Beware though: changing the PAL/NTSC setting of iMovie from PAL to NTSC made very strange results in edited movies (offset edits) when iMovie came out. I do not know if this has been corrected in the latest 7.1.1 version.
But you can always go back to your previous PAL setting and this eliminates all side effects, so there is no real downside trying.
I also have an HD1000 now and have had no problem with 60fps footage- and I now know how to output from iMovie at 60fps
Not sure if this has to do with it, but I do not use iMovie's import feature:
I create a folder for the new event in the ~/Movies/iMovie Events/, copy the .mp4s from the HD1000 to it, and then launch iMovie. IMovie then creates thumbnails and everything.
Hope this helps.
I miss the good old times of miniDV, when everything just worked!

  • Captured video plays back fast (sped up) in Final Cut Express 4

I had a Panasonic mini-dv digital camera that was stolen and it worked great with FCE. I purchased a JVC GR-D870 (mini-dv) as a replacement and now in FCE when I capture video it plays back fast in the Viewer and if I open the .mov file in Quicktime. Note that the video plays back at the correct speed when played from the camera, and when the video is being captured. I've tried changing my Easy Setup, but nothing has helped much. I'm currently using the DV-NTSC FireWire Basic setting, though it doesn't matter which one I chose. I did try using the 25.00 fps DV-PAL setting and interestingly it will capture for about 2 seconds and then crash, but the 2 second clip I'm left with seems to playback at the normal speed. This is an NTSC camera so not sure how to get the video that I capture to play at the correct speed (frame rate?). Any help would be most appreciated.

    Never heard this one before!
I have no idea why it is playing back fast, but if you have an NTSC camera you must use an NTSC Easy Setup.
When FCE behaves strangely the first thing to try is to delete the preferences as described here:-

  • Movie plays vary fast

In the event library the movie plays at the correct speed. Adding to the Project library, the movie, 18.13 minutes plays in about 10 seconds. This is the first time this has happened to me.

  • MPEG2 or MP4 with chapter marker export for playing back on TV.

Is it possible to export a project from Adobe premiere pro to MPEG2 or MP4 format with chapter markers information for playing back on a TV via usb conection?

It is not.  But the following program can create MP4 files with them.

Whether or not the TV will read them is another matter.

    Hi
Im having a strange issue playing a flash movie.
It plays no worries in IE, but when you try it in firefox it displays back to front.
Both flash plugins in both browsers are the same version.
Any way I can make the movie play properly in both browsers?

I share your concern.  It is possible to download and install the Officejet Pro 8600 Plus driver as described in the post here.  The HP Pro 8600 Plus hardware is very similar to the Officejet Pro 8620, but the 8600 driver does include a page order option in the Advanced tab of the driver

  • Audio plays back faster than video in Quicktime formats on Mac

On both my iMac and MacBook Pro, both running Mavericks, 90% of videos dependant on the Quicktime codecs / engine have an issue where the video plays fine, but audio is almost always too fast. This results in the audio being of a higher pitch and drifting further and further out of sync. It affects videos played in Quicktime, the Quick Preview in Finder and even web-based video such as in HTML5 players. It's really weird that I can't find anyone else that is having this problem, and yet it is affecting both my machines! It's really frustrating as I work with video all day, and have to preview and review everything in VLC, which plays everything fine. Any ideas at all? I'm finding so many weird bugs and quirks in Mavericks I am strongly considering downgrading back to Mountain Lion, but I am dreading having to do two complete re-installs again.

Which version of AME do you use on which OS version?
If you are using VLC to playback, please update to the latest version.  I remember the older version had the MXF audio playback issue.  It seems this issue was fixed on the latest version.
If this is not the case, could you try playing back this file on Adobe app such as Premiere Pro?  Do you see the same problem?

  • Apple TV Sound Drop after 20 Mins of Play. Also on iPad Movie play Back.

Over the last week my Apple TV and iPad Mini have started to drop the sound on play back, after 20 mins.
The stream via itunes on the Apple TV is stored on my Synology DS213j going to 2 ATVs one hard wired the other wireless.
Itunes, Synology, Imac and ATVs all up to date with latest software and firmware.
I have reset every thing rebooted and still the problem is there.
Also done the sign in out of everything fingers crossed thing.
The strange thing is I noticed when I watched a movie saved to my ipad the same thing is happening!
This happened on a plane away from home set up.
This must be a software issue in the ITunes family.
Is any one else having this issue and have you found a fix, or do we need to wait for an Apple acceptance of the issue and a fix?

Are you in the top level of the menu (not in the one where you select movies to preview).
    It may not have rented.

  • QT movie play back error

I have Photo to Movie software app' and made a movie of my recent slideshow project. On play back there were 3 areas in the 30 min slideshow where the screen went black for a second or more. I checked back on the original SS at these points but everything was fine. I have completed 2 SS before with no problems right through to DVD for TV viewing. I am puzzled why this should have happened. Any advice would be appreciated as I am not sure what steps to take now other than redo the whole process ( it took a while ) and see if it happens again.

No, there isn't a manual as such, only FAQ. The 'Help' does not respond when I type in Keep motion in Photo, and the helpline has not responded either. I will have to experiment and find out by trial and error which is usually the case these days. Shame because it is a great software package for the money. Results have been excellent when viewing on TV. However I am moaning but I found this product far superior to the iPhoto slideshow, it gave me so much grief trying to be creative with audio and text is not available. Also burning to IDVD was a nightmare I had lots of correspondence on this site with others with the same problems unresolved. Now I am happy with P2M and would recommend it to all iPhoto slideshow sufferers, at £35ish it's a snip! Thanks for your time and interest.

  • Exporting for DVD - exported video plays too fast

    Hello helpful people!
I'm fairly new to Premiere - but familiar with Final Cut. Using Adobe Premiere Pro CC v8.1 on a MAC.  I have a video that was shot in 1080p, and I picked sequence settings to match (or so I think).
The video looks great in Premiere, and I need to create DVDs to send to the UK (I'm American), and they will have to be able to play in a standard dvd player over there. My understanding is that PAL would be the wiser choice for encoding. I'm trying to keep the export simple, and I've exported it multiple times using both PAL and NTSC, and while the audio files are fine - for both PAL & NTSC the video files are significantly shorter than the actual film, and plays in a sort of fast-forward effect. In Premiere, the film plays at 17 minutes, but when I open the exported .m2v files they are only playing at 14:33, - or one that I finally (somehow) got up to 15:00 minutes. That 15 minute one I got from not tweaking the settings at all - on the previous ones, I had read somewhere to increase the bit rate and use VBR Pass 2 for better results. However 2 minutes off is still a big problem.
Below are screenshots of the sequence settings, and the most basic export settings I've used - example of the NTSC.
Any help is hugely appreciated! Thanks

I personally consider QuickTime the bane of video production whose use needs to vanish from the landscape quickly and permanently.  Give VLC a try instead.
VideoLAN - Official page for VLC media player, the Open Source video framework!
I say just go ahead and author the disk.  Chances are good it'll work correctly.

  • Choppy movie play back-everything working slow!!!

I have an external hard drive, lots of space, but with only about 35 min of video in my I-movie 4 program I am getting a choppy playback that skips along without smooth play! I have the playback set to the standard setting (Smooth Playback) and still it does not help. Also I get a 30 second lag time with the color wheel spinning every time I try to do anything! But at one point all of this stoped, and the clips and transitions went right in with no lag time at all! Then for no reason it started lagging again! And it seems the longer I went adding clips and transitions, the playback choppyness kept getting worse! I also noticed at one point the green bar at the bottom that shows avalible space had changed! Insted of one solid bar it had all of a sudden become 2 short green bars with a space in the middle! What's with that? I am adding transitions between all my clips, could this be overloading the program? My experience in the past is that this all goes away when I burn the movie, but I can't check it now without all these problems! What do I do?
    Any help would be great...Thankyou

    Thanks for your reply Mike!
I am running an IMac with Mac OS X
    It has 768 MB SDRAM
The external hard drive is a ULTRA brand, capacity 232GB, available 186GB.
It is on a fire wire, 400MB/sec. speed with the only other imput being the wire to camera. So both do not get used unless I am importing video!
I have about 258MB of ram free, 78MB wired, 138.5 active (With AOL up, and a few others!) and 293.5 inactive! A total of 510.18 used. So 258MB free! Is that not enuff to run smooth? I also consolidated all decktop items to one folder and made sure no other programs were running.
I put the I-movie program on the external hard drive in the hope of saving space on the computer. But then I had the problems. So I put the program back on my desktop and ran it from there and I still had the same problem with playback and 10-20sec lag for each click. So i don't think it's the firewire! But I burned the movie I made so far just to see what happend and it plays fine. This would leave me to think it's in the comp!
    So my next questions are...
    1) Should I keep the I-movie program on my desk top or shouldI keep it on the external.(Because I though that's what the external was for, saving big usage items!)
    2) Since I have the problem with the program on my desktop and the external drive both, does this mean the source is my computer!
    3) A friend asked about the video card I have. Would that have anything to do with it?
This is very frustrating for me because the farther along I get, the worse the lag and playback problems get. It seems like a memory/avalable space issue causing my comp. to skip fames because it's to slow!?!? I don't know. When I was using final cut pro I just kept my scratch disc on the external drive and the program on my desktop. I see no way to do that with I-movie! Let me know what you think!
    Thanks again for any help,
    Bill

  • QT streaming .mov plays back video fine, but sound choppy with static

I created some QT streaming files with compressor. 6 bandwidths for same video file. The files themselves play fine. When I click the QT ref movie I made the sound is poppy and has some static. You can view the video here.
    http://services.ltc.arizona.edu/MediaServices/betts/betts6.mov
The problem does happen on more than one workstation, but the files on the server play fine. It's just when streaming. Any thoughts?

    Yep. Pretty horrible.
Why not use some more modern codecs? Currently you're using Sorenson 3 and IMA 4:1 audio, Stereo and at 44.100Hz. No need for stereo in a "talking head" video. No need for an audio track that is only 4 times smaller than the audio found on a CD (4:1 compression).
Use MPEG-4 Video codec and AAC audio. This will shrink the data rate and probably fix your audio issues,

  • Swf movies playing back 1/2 the original speed

I have a multimedia cd exported as an .swf. Inside of this I
have a 'movie viewer' that loads external .swf movies into the
project via 'tell target' command. I have roughly 20 movies that
work fine, but for some reason the new ones I made are running at
2X the speed inside the player. However, they run perfectly on
    their own though.
The main swf is at 23 fps. I have adjusted the external
movies to 1, 6, 12, 23, 30 fps and get the same 2X speed every
    time.
Has anybody ever heard of this happening before? Are there
    any solutions to this?

Thank you for replying and sorry it took so long to respond.  Now I can't get into my Verizon email so I didn't know I had a response on this site. I was also physically unable to sit at my computer.  Here is the info you requested:
Transceiver Revision: 7.2.3.0   Vendor ID Code: 4   Line Mode: G.DMT Mode   Data Path: Interleaved     Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream PathDSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 864 160 Margin (dB) 20.5 31.0 Line Attenuation (dB) 44.5 29.0 Transmit Power (dBm) 3.3 11.1
on 8/15 I had the slowest download speed yet of 0.17 mbps! I am paying for 1.1-3mbps.  My modem is 6 or 7 years old.  I'm not sure if I mentioned the last 2 sentences before.

  • Downloaded a Movie, playing back but no sound ?

I down loaded a movie from Itunes, I started the paly back but I have no sound ?

    Applications/Utilities>Audio MIDI Setup
Make sure the Format is either 44100Hz or 48000Hz
If it ISN'T one of those two, that's what usually kills audio, on MP4 and MOV files especially.

  • My LT file plays back faster after I render

When I render it and import it into FCE, the credits scroll faster, a good bit faster I'd say 20% or so. As a result, my credits come up 10-15 seconds too short. Why is it doing this? I've been at this for 3 hours and it does it every time.

Sounds like the frame rate settings in LT and the frame rate settings in FCE don't match.

  • WAV files play back too fast

When I choose File->Open to open an AIFF, MP3 or other file in Audition CS6, it simply plays back at normal speed. However, when I open a WAV file, it plays back at double speed (voices become high-pitched). NOTE: The sample rate (44.1) and bit size settings match exactly. This is not a sample rate issue. The frame rate is NOT set to custom.
This happens only to WAV files. The platform Mac OS X 10.8.3. Any ideas?

For some reason the songs seem to play back faster than they should. Any ideas?
How much faster? Have you timed the playback speed with a stop watch and compared the actual duration with the duration (Time) in the browser?
If youtube plays back slower, it might be caused by the network.
I have only seen this on iTunes for Windows so far - you are not by any chance on Windows right now, are you?
Are you running the latest version of iTunes?
And do you have any non-standard Audio devices installed - look at System Preferences > Audio > Output ?
Did you install any Audio Drivers?
Also look at the Audio Devices in Audio MIDI setup (Applications > Utilities):
Check the Format for you output device if it is set to 441000 Hz (compare the setting to the sample rate you see on your songs in the iTunes Library).
If this setting is wrong, iTunes may try to playback at the wrong speed.
    Regards
    Léonie
