Exported mp4 or flv has much smaller frame size than the original

Not sure if I started the project the wrong way or if I'm doing something wrong when I export.
My imported file is an mp4 29.87 fps 44,100Hz 16 bit stereo.
480x360
When I export it as an flv or mp4 the image is about the size of a postage stamp surrounded by a huge black border.
Any help would be much appreciated.
I'd rather export and flv.
Martin
P.S. I'd like the exported size to be around 390x214 or something a tad smaller than 400 wide.

Thank you Hunt for your reply.
I was an editor for 30 years (Michael Redbourn) and did some editing on Premiere a few years back for a client, but somebody set up the pre-sets and did the export for me, so as is obvious I know next to nothing about how to do either.
What is your Sequence Preset? Does it match that Source Footage?
I didn't see any preset that matched 44,100 hz
How can I check to see what my sequence preset is?
In those Export formats, what are the Presets used?
What are the settings for the Frame Size options?
In those formats, if you chose, say a DV Preset, and did not do cropping, you would get what you describe.
I tried several and certainly one of them was a DV preset, and I didn't crop.
The answers to the above questions should give others something to work with, and likely get you a solution to the issue.
I'm really just experimenting with a short sequence and to reedit it will be really simple, so if you could tell me which presets and export settings to use, I will redo the project and learn a lot at the same time.
Original clip is an mp4 29.87 fps 44,100Hz 16 bit stereo 480x360
I'd like the exported size to be around 390x214 (preferable .flv) or something a tad smaller than 400 wide.
Thanks again,
Michael

  • Specified a smaller partition size than the filesystem, using parted

I felt so sorry to make such a stupid mistake:
I shrinked the filesystem size with resize2fs, in the next step, I used parted to resize the corresponding partition. But unfortunately, because parted treated 1GB as 1000MB, which is quite different from the Linux system, that made me specified a smaller partition size than filesystem size. As you can predict, this ruined the filesystem. How can I restore my files?

  • Adobe Camera Raw has a bigger picture ratio than the original Canon CR2?

This one is processed by the Adobe Camera Raw:
this is the JPG processed by the Canon camera:
When I view the CR2 files in Canon software, it shows the same as the 2nd JPG posted above. However, when CR2 files were in Adobe Camera Raw, all the photos are slightly enlarged, I did not apply any lens profile correction, how to fix this problem?
    Thanks

Look at the bottom of the Lens Corrections - Profile tab and see the notification about built-in lens corrections being applied, then click on the and see exactly what those corrections are:
Without any lens corrections the G1X2 has severe distortion:
Both Canon and Adobe are doing lens corrections and there must be slightly different math involved so the corrections aren't exactly the same.

Wild guess: you're using the the wrong export settings. You'll need to tell us more before we can help you - like the export settings you're usng, the size and format of the originals etc.

  • Videos are downloaded at small frame size

    Sir/Madam,
I downloaded some videos from youtube. I have "Download Helper" and "Best Video Downloader" add ons installed. Any video that i download is downloaded at very small frame size like a little box. I don't mean a specific video , the problem is with any video that i download. I tried both of them. I informed them about this but no response is given by them. Is this a browser issue? (This problem is occurring from 2 days.)

    Not a Firefox issue
    Open Windows Media Player

  • My iMac has extremely small gray lines on the screen?

My iMac has extremely small gray lines under the screen? There are 3 of them and they are right next to each other, have any of you guys experienced this? What did Apple do about it? BTW my computer is 4 months out of warranty, because i did not get the extended Apple Care, will they still fix my computer? Im really worried, but its not that noticeable, unless you already know its there.

They won't fix your computer because it's out of warranty, perhaps an AppleCare lesson learned here. Of course you can try which doesn't hurt. The longer  you wait though and the less chance they will help. Can you attach a picture so we can see what they look like?

  • Forwarded images are much smaller than the original

Something new has happened. After 10 years of Mail I am just experiencing this phenomenon. When I forward an email with pictures or illustrations attached, the forwarded images are about 75% the size of the original. In many instances that takes the readability away. Does anyone have an idea how I can fix this or what causes it? Thanks.

  • How do I output the smoothest video when changing or mixing frame rates from the original footage?

I have been experimenting with various Media Encoder settings, and wondered if there was anything else I can try to get the smoothest video output possible, especially when changing frame rate and possibly resolution.  For clarification, let me start from the beginning and explain what I'm doing and what I've tried so far.  I'll try to be as brief as possible, but if I do go into too much detail, I apologize.
My original footage is AVCHD 1080p - 60fps.  (my camera only does 60fps...specifically 59.94fps)  We're not talking interlaced video here, I'm staying away from that.  This is definitely full frame, progressive video at 60 frames (not fields) per second.  My output will ultimately be for the web.  I have been keeping my output codec (H.264) and bit-rate (VBR 2-pass, relatively high-bitrate) consistent, and have been trying numerous output options and even sequence settings to see what would yield the best results.  I am using Premiere Pro CS5.5 along with Media Encoder.  Here's what I've done and the results I've observed:
    1.  I created a sequence with 1080p - 59.94fps settings to match my original footage.  I then output both 1080p and 720p versions at 59.94fps, and at 29.97fps.  The 59.94fps output files looked absolutely great, as would be expected.  Extremely smooth.  The 29.97fps output files were generally smooth, but not near as smooth as the 59.94fps.  This is expected since it's half the frame rate as my original footage.  However, my question is this:  What exactly is Media Encoder doing when "down converting" from 60p to 30p?  From a technical stand point, is it dropping every other frame?  I'm just curious to understand exactly what it does.  I tried the Frame Blending option as well, and that only yielded a bit more blur to the images which wasn't desirable for any of the output files.
    2.  Just to see what would happen, I created a sequence with 1080p - 29.97 settings.  I then output both 1080p and 720p versions at 29.97fps.  The video was much more choppy in these cases, even with Frame Blending on.  Now, I know not matching my sequence settings with my original media isn't ideal, but I again just want to understand why this yields less smooth video than the 29.97fps options above.  Why does cutting the sequence settings frame rate in half from the original, then outputting the same frame rate as the sequence yield video that is not as smooth?
    3.  Next, I wanted to try mixing frame rates to see how Premiere and Media Encoder handled the footage and output files.  Premiere handled it great, no issues there.  However, I had some interesting things happen when I output the files.  Here's what I did:  I created a sequence with 1080p - 59.94fps to match my original footage.  Then I took the same exact footage that was in my sequence, copied it in my project panel and interpreted it at both 23.976 and 29.97 fps, yielding slow motion video.  The slow motion video looked great in Premiere, so I went ahead and just added it to my sequences, along with the original 59.94 footage.  I also created separate sequences for the 29.97 and 23.976 footage respectively, each with matching sequence settings, then added a nested sequence to another original footage sequence (with 59.94fps sequence settings) to see which yielded the best results.  Basically, I'm trying to output 59.94fps that match my original footage, but also throw in some slow motion footage at different framerates.  I'll explain my results in a moment as they are a bit convoluted, however, here is my question:  When mixing frame rates and trying to output the smoothest video, am I going about this the right way?  I would assume you would use your sequence settings that match the original footage (which is what the majority of the footage will be), then bring in a nested sequence for the slow motion (as oppose to just dropping the slow motion video directly into my main sequence), and then output to the same frame rate of the majority of the footage, in this case 59.94fps. Is there a better workflow for this?
The results to #3 above were as follows.  Initially, it looked like it didn't matter if I nested the slow motion sequence into my main sequence, or simply dropped the actual slow motion video into my original 59.94fps sequence.  It seemed to produce smooth results either way.  Frame Blending blurred the video a bit, but didn't seem to make much difference, and quite honestly I like the footage without Frame Blending in general.  However, when I closed down Premiere, and opened the output files later (opening in Quicktime), the footage looked choppy.  In fact, it would go from choppy to smooth and back, almost like it had an irregular cadence (don't know if I'm using "cadence" in the right context here).  I would then open up Premiere again, import the output footage into my project panel, and play the footage in Premiere, and it would play back smooth again. Is this a Quicktime issue?  I was playing 1080p 59.94fps files when this happened, so maybe it's just because it's a large file.  Doesn't seem to have issues with the 720p files I created.  But it sure threw me off with my testing because I then started second guessing the settings I was using.  My iMac is the latest 2011 model with plenty of RAM, so I wouldn't think it's the computer.  Thoughts?
    4.  Next, I noticed on ALL my output files (again, using the H.264 codec from Media Encoder) that the color of my video seemed to flatten quite a bit.  It seems that the original footage has more contrast and saturation than the output files.  I figured maybe this was just how it was, but when I re-imported the output files back into Premiere, they looked IDENTICAL to the original footage.  And in Media Encoder's Source/Output windows, I don't see any difference there either. Is Quicktime again the culprit here, doing some odd things to the color of my videos?
    5.  Regarding Frame Blending, when is the best situation to enable this option in Media Encoder?  I've read it is when mixing frame rates, but I honestly didn't see too much of a change except for a bit more blur, which I didn't care for.
    6.  Lastly, my conclusion is that 60fps yields the smoothest video, which is an obvious conclusion.  However, I know that 60fps isn't the best or easiet frame rate for web delivery.  It seems 30p is more the standard.  Are there any integrated web players that would play 60fps?  Can you get 60fps video on YouTube/Vimeo?  If yes to any of these questions, can they do 720p and 1080p at 60fps?
Those are all my questions.  I hope I am clear enough without being overly wordy and hopefully I didn't put too many questions into one post.  Thanks in advance for any insight, I really appreciate it.

Did you ever figure out which output worked the best? I have the same original footage; trying to determine the best output settings to make a dvd for tv.
    thanks!

  • Why is the saved JPG file much bigger than the original JPG file??

I used Image Processor in Bridge CS5 to open a jpeg, apply sharpening action and save as  a jpeg.  The bit size, color space and pixel dimensions are identical. However, when I save at Quality 12 I get a Jpeg file that is nearly DOUBLE the size of the original jpeg  Only if I drop it to Quality 10 do I get a file that approximates, but doesn't equal, the original jpeg.
    1) Isn't 12 the same as saying 100% and as such the file size should be the about the same?
    2) why would it increase so much?  Example about 6 mb to about 12mb???
Does this sound right? I am sure I am doing the steps and setting the parameters correctly. The action simply applies unsharp mask:
I can set the quality to 10 and get an approximate equivalent file size...but I want the higher quality of a 100%/12 setting.
    WHAT AM I MISSING???
    Thanks  - Kevin

    WHAT AM I MISSING???
The simple fact that JPEG is always a fully re-compressing format. Your newly created files bear no relationship to the original ones - no binary data structures are retained; the compression algorithm is always applied fresh upon the fully decoded original image and if you use different settings, the result is different. Moreover, since the initial compression artifacts become "valid pixels" once decoded, the successive compression has no way of knowing that they actually are "bad pixels" and those fine disturbances agfain result in different compression patterns. That is, after alll, why consecutive saves to JPEG will always degrade quality even at the best settings...

  • Lightroom displays files and exports files darker than the original or from Photoshop

    Hello all.
I would first like to preface this by stating I am not technically minded, and I know nothing (or very little) of ICC profiles etc.
Though assume someone will attempt to tell me to do something with them in a really technical way which I won't understand, please treat me like a 4 year child in this regard.
I am using Lightroom 5.6 on a Mac running 10.9.4 I have CS6 Photoshop and have a Spyder 3pro calibration device and have linked all of the Adobe programs to the output of the calibration to "hopefully" ensure quality control.
I recently have been scanning analogue film and importing this into Lightroom 5. I have noticed that the file imported always looks darker than the original.
When I have exported from Lightroom them they look like crap.
There are no import additional settings as they are all turned off. I did that when I installed LR.
I have also noticed than whenever I imported a Raw file for some reason the original file would look great for a second then when clicked on would also change to something less appealing. But I digress.
So in attempt to show what is happening. I have created some images to illustrate my problem.
Also it does not matter if I turn the soft proofing on or off.
    Lightroom Softproof on
    Lightroom Softproof off
Lightroom vs Photoshop Histogram - Very similar
Left: File opened from Lightroom as the Original      Right: Original Photoshop File
Left: File opened from an Export from Lightroom      Right: Original Photoshop File
Any clues as this is very annoying and at the moment makes Lightroom 5 unusable.

Can you put one of your scans somewhere, like www.dropbox.com, and post a public download/share link to it?   I'd like to try one of the scans on my computer, though, to see if it does the same thing.  You can crop an original down to something smaller that includes sky and trees like your screenshots show.
I am guessing there is a gamma problem or a profile problem somewhere.  What Profile do the scans have embedded in them from the scanner?  You can turn on the three Ask checkboxes in your color-settings and see what it says when you open an original in Photoshop.
My guess is that LR is using a default profile that doesn't match what Photoshop is using, but perhaps there is a gamma issue, too.
Have you tried opening one of the originals in the Camera Raw plug-in, perhaps from Bridge or just from PS / File / Open.  You may have to set your PS Camera Raw settings to prefer ACR for TIFs.  ACR and LR should be about the same in file handling so it'd be interesting to see if that is the case.

My iPad has a different Apple ID than the Apple ID on my computer. The iPad Apple ID has an email address that I no longer use. If (while on the iPad) I go to My Apple ID and try to change or add the email address that I now use (and which already is my Apple ID on the computer), it won't allow me to add it. It says : "Email address is already verified for another Apple ID"  I haven't really been aware of this as a problem until I tried (for the first time) to sync my iPad to the computer and became aware that certain things wouldn't transfer. What is the solution to this?

What are you having problems with ?
This post was about having updated the primary email address on an iTunes account via a computer - if you do that you might need to log out of the account on an iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in with the updated version of the account for that email address change to be recognised on your iPad. If you don't log out and back in then an iPad (or iPhone or iPod Touch) might continue to show the old version of the iTunes account id.
