Exported TIFFs - Unreadable by Windows Explorer or QImage
RSP user just getting started with LR. I exported a few images as 8 bit TIFF aRGB. Did some post in CS2 and the wanted to use Qimage to out put.. No ready to muck with LR print module yet.
Qimage couldn't render the TIFFs and neither could Windows ?? CS2 opens them fine. If I export as JPG No problems.
Never had any problems with RSP/CS2 before
Any ideas ?

16-bit uses more memory. Quality-wise: No. Mike Chaney recommends
using 8-bit.
16-bit are needed for editing on a grand scale, a very grand scale,
with a very wide gamut [much wider than the most often used AdobeRGB].
On a personal note: Never had a problem with gaps in my histograms as
long as the image looks right. Unfortunately agencies want gap-less
files.

Export song details to windows explorer
I am trying to make the song details such as album name and artist show up in the media properties of the itunes media folder in windows explorer in windows 8.1. All the information shows in iTunes, and although I have consolidated the library and ticked Keep Media Folder Organised under Edit > Preferences > Advanced, the information is not showing. In explorer nothing is Read only and the "Allow this file to have contents indexed in addition to file" check box is ticked for all songs. The only songs that I am having this problem with are ones that have been imported from a CD.
Thanks!MeerCat Man,
iTunes does not process tags for WAV files. It stores the Artist, Album, etc in the library (and displays them in the normal fashion) but they are not part of the file and will not be available if the file is viewed outside of iTunes. Pls consider converting the WAV files to AIFF, which has the same full uncompressed PCM encoding as WAV, but also allows tags and artwork to be embedded in the file.
Regarding the Convert ID3 Tag command, right-click the iTunes library entry of the MP3 song, and the command will appear in the contextual menu. (It will not appear when you right-click the library entry of a WAV file, for reasons that are apparent per the previous paragraph.)
Let us know how it goes. -
Opening a .tif or .tiff file in Internet Explorer using Quicktime in Window
How do you open a .tif or .tiff file within Internet Explorer using Quicktime in Windows 7?
Thank you for looking.Open the QuickTime control panel to Browser>Mime Settings>Images-Still image files and select TIFF image then click-ok apply ok. You want to do this without the browser running. If this doesn't help you may want to post a website with the TIFF, for myself or others to try

After purchasing the Export PDF Online software when I attempt to perform a "File/Save As" when viewing a document on the web it locks up windows explorer. I receive "FIle Save As - Not Responding"
I think you may be correct. It is coincidental with my upgrade to Adobe Reader 11.0.10.
I have installed IE 11 (11.0.9600.17690)
It may be an Adobe Reader problem in that the "tools/file save as" dialog is completely empty. No local directories are displayed for saving to. When I try to Close(X) the "File Save As" box it pops up a message box on top that says "Adobe Reader is not Responding" It locks up all of my IE windows, not just the one with the PDF doc.
I need to go go Task Manager and stop the IE task. All my browser windows are then closed.
That is the only way to recover from the "Adobe Reader is Not Responding" message. -
Export function crashes Windows Explorer or at least the exported images do.
This is the first time that I have used the Export function since upgrading to version 2 so believe that it is tied in with the upgrade somehow.
When I choose an image > Export > Temp folder on the Desktop the image does indeed appear in the temp folder. Double clicking on the folder displays the contents and so long as I take no further action nothing more happens. However, as soon as I move the mouse over the image icon this causes Windows Explorer to crash.
With LR closed down, I navigate to the folder where the image is located and by right-clicking > copy I then save a copy to another temporary folder on the desktop. Moving the mouse over the image icon does NOT this time cause Windows Explorer to crash.
I have tried the Export function with RAW, DNG and JPG files to see if the problem was related to any one particular file or file format but it makes no difference - the same problem as described above occurs.
Has anyone else experienced this or can advise on how to possibly isolate this problem?
Windows XP2 SP3Thanks for that John. Having done as you suggested, the problem appears to be with a dll file associated with another application I used for displaying cr2 and crw thumbnails in Windows Explorer. In the applications (dpMagic) preferences if I uncheck jpg and jpeg from the file associations Windows Explorer does not crash following Export from Lightroom and in this situation, double-clicking on the exported jpg/jpeg file now results in it opening in Windows Fax and Picture Viewer.
Even uninstalling the application followed by manually searching for any trace of remaining files prior to a fresh install does not cure the problem and I suspect that not all files from this application are being removed.
Anyway, I have now emailed dpMagic support for advice but am happy that the cause of this crash does not now appear to lie with Lightroom.
Thanks again for your advice, regards and have a nice day. -
IPod not showing up in Windows explorer / iTunes - not responding to reset
I have updated my new (1 day old!!) iPod nano to the newest firmware (1.1.1.)... and now I can't use the iPod anymore.
It doesn't show up in Windows Explorer. When I try to connect to it via Run, it says: 'E:\ is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'
When trying to open Windows Explorer, it freezes - not showing any harddrives.
When trying to connect to it via CMD (dos)... It reads: 'The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable'
I have tried all the soft resets, hard resets etcetera. I have uninstalled the USB driver for iPod, uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled them both, used different USB ports. But still no success.
I can't connect to it via iPod Updater, because Windows won't connect to it.
The iPod itself does respond, although I can't find any data on it anymore.
How do I get my iPod to work again: connect to my windows / iTunes player? Please, any help is appreciated!
iPod nano 4GB Windows XPI have tried all the 'Rs' that Apple recommend. As said, I can't hook up the iPod to my computer. I have tried to reset the iPod manually (holding the select and menu button) - but this doesn't work.
If there is another (manual) way to restore the iPod, I would love to hear about it.
As said: as for restoring the iPod - I can't get any contact with my iPod with my computer at all. -
Lightroom won't open Windows Explorer
I'm running the current version of Lightroom. For a while now, it hasn't been opening Windows Explorer after I do an export (even though I have it set to do so), but that didn't bother me much so I let it go. But just now I wanted to view one of my photos in it's location on the hard drive, so I chose "show in Explorer" in the right-click menu, and it didn't open Explorer. I searched the forums here, and also via Google for a solution but wasn't able top find one. Can you help?
Thanks,
DSIt is working fine here, both as an Export setting and as a Right Click - Show in Explorer.

Adobe Pro XI - using Windows 7 Pro OS
When a PDF document is opened from Windows Explorer, and pages are added, deleted, notations made, any type of changes, it cannot be saved until Windows Explorer is fully closed. If you try to save the document, you receive the following error - "The document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or another user may have it opened. Please save the document with a different name or in a differnt folder. " I have confirmed the document is not read only, it is not open by another user, and it is not open multiple times. Once you fully close Windows Explorer, and try to save the document, it saves without a problem.
Are there settings in either Adobe Pro XI or Windows that will allow you to save documents without closing Windows Explorer first?
Thank you for any assistance you can provide. This error is a frustration since I open all my documents through Windows Explorer.[discussion moved to Creating, Editing & Exporting PDFs forum]

*.eml Time Stamp - Select File in Windows Explorer Changes the Modified Date
The Windows Live Mail *.eml files time stamp is getting changed to the current date when the file is selected in the Windows Explorer! I save backup copies of important E-mails to folders on the Hard Drive and then synchronize them with the same folders on other LAN Hard Drives for backup archives. When these E-mail files are selected or opened from the Windows Explorer in the Windows 7 OPS the Modified Date Time Stamp is changed to the current date automatically! This action creates a real problem when doing later synchronizations of all of the folders! The date will not be the original date of the E-mail and the original file will be over copied with the file with the newest date stamp. I stopped Indexing on the *.eml files and that stopped the time stamp change when overcopy synchronization, but if the file is selected during a viewing in Windows Explorer then the Time Stamp is updated to the current date again! A solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated if anybody knows of one. Thanks - - - Shorto
The Date and Timestamp changing issue in Windows 7 has a two part fix!
1. Disable the Indexing of the *.eml file type in the Indexing Options located by Clicking on "Control Panel" - "Indexing Options" - Advanced Button - File Types Tab - scroll down to the .eml file type and uncheck the Box then click OK to finish, so
that the Email type of files won't be Indexed.
2. Delete the Registry Entry listed below, be sure to Export and Save the original Key so it could be Restored if something goes wrong! \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PropertySystem\PropertyHandlers
and Delete the .eml entry
That should fix the problem with the changing Date/Timestamp of Email Files. For more information read CarlS's WindowsSeven Fourm thread where I also have more input:
http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/35334-eml-files-timestamps-updated-constantly.html
This should give you a better understanding on the problem and the Fix. - - - Shorto -
Some photos not visible in Windows Explorer
Dear All,
I have a problem when using an iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1.1 together with Windows 8.
The iPhone connect well, I can browse most of the photos from Windows Explorer, but some newer pictures are simply missing. So I see the majority of photos taken, but some are simply missing. Has anyone already encountered this? I have tried rebooting the phone and the PC, with no result.
Thanks.There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have. -

How Do I Preview QT Mpeg4 Video in Windows Explorer?
I have tried everything I can to try to get QuickTime videos to be viewed at thumbnails in Windows Explorer, but only Windows AVI and DIVX videos will be previewed as thumbnails.
I tried these things:
1. Installed QuickTime 7.6.2.14.0 updated this week
2. Installed the K-Lite Codec Pack Basic
and selected to enable thumbnail previews for all video types
http://www.codecguide.com/about_kl.htm
3. Searched the web for ideas.
I even tried this command: regsvr32 shmedia.dll
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/03/17/how-to-enable-or-disable-media-and-vide o-thumbnail-preview-in-windows-xp/
http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/03/17/how-to-turn-off-image-preview-thumbnail -and-disable-windows-picture-and-fax-viewer-in-windows-xp/
4. Tried rebooting several times.
5. Looked through ''Folder Options'' and reset to defaults.
6. I tried installing this freeware that enables FLV (flash) videos to be previewed in Windows Explorer hoping it would "kick start" whatever the problem is.
http://www.swf-kit.com/swfpreview.html
7. I tried looking for "Web View" under Folder Options to enable it, but
it is nowhere to be found under Windows XP SP3.
8. I tried re-saving the MPEG4 (mp4 extension) as a QuickTime Movie and then exporting the video "for the web" in the three ipod/iphone/Desktop formats and that did not work either. They do not get previewed under Thumbnail view.
I am at a loss what else to try.
Thanks for any suggestion.Here is how I resolved this problem and now ALL video files show thumbnail previews inside Windows Explorer.
1. I uninstalled K-Lite Codec Pack
2. I rebooted Windows XP (SP3)
3. I installed the XVID codec version 1.2.1 from http://www.koepi.info/xvid.html
4. I rebooted Windows XP
5. I installed the K-Lite codec pack (basic edition)
6. Since I already had XVID and DIVX (from Divx.com) installed,
I unchecked XVID and DIVX under the DirectShow Video Decoding Filters.
7. I activated H264 and chose "ffdshow" instead of "(use system default)"
8. I created file associations for use with Windows Media Player, allowing the defaults to be selected automatically.
9. I left QuickTime (mov) unchecked for the file associations.
10. I turned on thumbnail generation for all file types.
I finished installing K-Lite Basic and then rebooted Windows XP.
When I opened "My Videos" Folder I saw video thumbnails of all my Mpeg4 QuickTime movies. -
Viewing Vista Folder Containing Palm Stuff Crashes Window Explorer
After I install the Palm software, it creates a directory in my Documents folder. When I open the Documents folder, Windows Explorer crashes. After I uninstall the Palm software, I have no further issues. So, I tried to be clever and create a folder called Palm Stuff and installed the software in that folder. This worked, excdept when I sync for the first time, it creates a new folder in the Documents folder for the synced info and I am back to where I was. How can I change where that folder is created when I sync?

Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)There are registry entries that need to be deleted to completely remove Palm desktop. Here are the uninstall instructions.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents -->
Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and
copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
with Palm Desktop from your computer.
Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below.
C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One
C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or
PalmOne
C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata
*Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go
into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck
hide hidden files.
Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box.
Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
but if they are delete them)
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
Next reboot your computer.
Then reinstall your palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. When it asks for a username, use the name that is in the upper right corner of the hotsync application on your Centro.

Can't drag & drop images from Windows Explorer into Elements 7
Hi...
I'm a Photoshop Elements 7 newbie... I can't drag and drop images (jpeg, tiff, Olympus RAW) from Windows Explorer (file explorer and not IE) to Photoshop Elements like I can in Corel Paint Shop Pro X2? It also works in Corel Painter IX.5 & ArtRage 3 (except for RAW)... My operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.... I've uninstalled and re-installed Elements but to no avail. I've also tried to run Elements under various compatability modes but still no luck....
Any ideas?
It's driving me nuts...
Thanks kindly
Ken"I just remembered: If the Editor or Organizer are "running as administrator", then you can't drag and drop from Windows Explorer. To see if you're running the program as administrator right click the desktop icon or Start Menu item you use to launch PS and select Properties. On the Compatibility tab, is Run This Program As Administrator checked? (Note that in Vista and Windows 7, running a program as administrator is different than running it in an account that's a member of the Administrator's group.)"
I wasn't running the program as administrator so I enabled that compatibility property applied it then disabled it. It seems to work now. I thought I'd add this to flesh out the previous answer. I didn't open the program in between the enable and disable, so it is a quick process. Also, I am using windows 8.1 and had to open the file location in order to do this. Right click on the tile then choose 'open file location' -
