Exported Video Does Not Look Right
I am sure this is a basic setting I am overlooking, but a lot of this is new to me - any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
My goal is to create a high quality 640x480 movie for Computer/Web viewing only.
• I shot a short video using a Canon Vixia HV30 to mini DV tape using the SD standard - no problem. I guess that records at 720x480 non-square pixels at 29.97fps - is that right?
• I used log and capture inside of FCP v6.0.5 to capture the various clips I needed - no problem (I don't think). If I open each of those clips from the finder in Quicktime they look "pretty" good, but a bit of aliasing on the diagonals and somewhat blurry, but not sure why? Everything looks sharp on the smaller camera LCD screen? and looks pretty good inside of FCP on the Canvas? If I open one of these captures directly inside of Quicktime and do a get info, it says...

FPS: 29.95
Normal Size: 640x480 pixels
Current Size: 640x480 pixels (Actual)
All these Quicktime movies appear slightly larger in height and width than the same clips when viewed in the FCP Canvas?
If I open the Sequence Settings in FCP it says...
Frame Size 720 x 480 NTSC DV (3:2)
Pixel Aspect Ratio NTSC - CCIR 601 /DV (720x480)
Field Dominance: None
Editing Timebase: 29.97
Everything looked pretty good inside FCP so I Exported a QT Movie using "Current Settings". Then opened the resulting self-contained movie in QT and it looks pretty bad. When I get info in QT on the rendered final movie it reads...

Current Size: 640x480 pixels (Actual)
So... the FPS and the Normal Size are not the same as the captured original clips.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Is this just the wrong Sequence Settings, Export Settings or do I have to start over an re-capture all my footage some other way?
PS - I am assuming that the DV Camcorder is recording interlaced (60 fields) rather than progressive - is that right. Do I need to de-interlace the video somehow?

I'm far from being an expert, but since no one has replied to you yet, and because I've been helped out here plenty of times, I'll post something and who knows -- it may be the answer.
Your post was really long but from what I can gather, you're wondering why your exported video does not look good when you open it in QuickTime. Try this: Open the video in QT, hit command-J, then click on Video Track, then at the bottom right (under Visual Settings) you'll see High Quality, Single Field, and Deinterlace. Click around on those to see if that improves what you see.

Date time picker script does not look right when calender pops up

I have today purchased iMovie but does not look right
I have today purchased iMovie for £2.99 (through iTunes I recall) but when I start the app it does not look much like the on line tutorial details. Just has Video/Projects/Theater and create a new project. Any advice please? Have I actually purchased the app or some simple equivalent?
Thanks for your time. I have another response which has clarified my situation. I have the right app for an iPad, which is not so comprehensive as the version for a MAC. I have also found some learning material for the iPad version, which matches what I have, so all is resolved. Thanks!

This is the only way I can think to title this. I downloaded Yosemite and it crashed my computer so I had to do a complete system repair with the help of apple. Thank goodness I have applecare. Anyway after going through all of that we restored from my back up so everything looks just like it did before I installed Yosemite. All the icons are the same, nothing has changed. But according to the computer I'm running Yosemite. Shouldn't it look different? Also I don't have anything like the handoff icon that everyone keeps mentioning. And when my iPhone rings it definitely does not show up on my iMac even though I have made sure all of my accounts are the same - they always have been. None of the features that Yosemite are supposed to have appear to be on my machine. HELP!.

Tried the fix from last contact and still does not look right.
I tried the fix that you recommended and that had no effect. The colors on some web sites are off to the point that I can not read the material since the colors are so dark or even one site came up with an all black background that I never had that before on that site. Some sites are scrambled so much that it shows the site as an outline looks when writing a paper. On Monzilla, when you click on; i.e., 'cut' the bar highlights but the writing on the bar becomes so faint that you can not make it out. I never had this problem until I allowed the latest version to load. I also shut down the computer but that had no effect. If I look for something and use Yahoo it comes up with writing over writing on some lines. So why did this occur?

Shooting "squeezed" 16:9 does not look quite right when exported to 16:9
Hard to put a title which would cover the problem well, probably hard to describe it well, too, for an amateur:)
Anyway, I have a cheap JVC GR-D320E which serves me well as a beginner´s camera (for the price I gave) but when I shoot in what it calls 16:9 mode which I have understood it is not true 16:9 but in a way squeezed, and I import this to FCE (set to Anamorphic PAL), it all looks good within FCE but when I export it using QT Conversions and setting the proportions and size manually to what is supposed to be the right dimensions for 16:9 PAL (1024x576 if I remember it correctly) it does not look right. The persons "grow shorter and fatter", if you know what I mean.
I have tried to change the dimensions in QT Pro, but the problem is to find the correct ones. I also wonder why this happens and if there actually are "correct" proportions which then would be something between 16:9 and 4:3 or if I am doing something wrong?
When I export not using QT Conversions, the result is 4:3 which isn´t right, either...
Well, hope I have been able to describe this in a way which is possible to understand...I want to export it for several purposes; all you mention, in fact; to put on the web, to play on the monitor and to make a DVD. As I mentioned, when I exported as a QuickTime movie, it came out as a 4:3 and that of course, looked awful.
Using the conversions, I can scale it as I want to, but to me 16:9 does not look exactly right, either. That is why I wanted to know if there are some proportions in between the 4:3 and 16:9 which is appropriate for footage which is not filmed in true 16:9 but in this option which cheaper cameras have.

My Firefox 4.0 does not look anything like the videos you show about the features of the new Firefox. My screen looks totally different than yours. It does not have the orange box in the upper left hand corner of the screen. My screen still looks like the old version. I have the logo on the top of my screen with Ask a Question a vertical line Firefox Help - Mozilla Firefox.
Under this line I have File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. Below this line is a tab with Ask a Question Firefox Help and a +. My husbands screen looks identical to the orange Firefox Box in the upper left of screen. I would like my screen to look identical to the ones shown in your videos. I only have one version of Firefox 4.0 my husband does have the Firefox 4.0 plus the Beta version. How do I add the Beta version? I have Windows Vista running systems. Please help. I've been using Premiere Elements 9 for a couple of years now, and a few months ago I began having problems importing AVI files created from a BlackMagic Intensity Pro capture card. (These issues were not previously occurring, and since they surfaced, I have exhausted the various settings for the BlackMagic card, used various software such as BlackMagic's own Media Express as well as the freeware VirtualDub, and still have the following problems.)
In addition, these AVI files play just fine, in their entirety, using Windows Media Player and in Quicktime.
The problem (or possibly two, but I suspect they could be related) is that most of the AVI files I attempt to import will either (1) import all video and NO audio, or (2) import ONLY a short segment of audio and video, and the length that Elements imports varies. Usually only in the range of a minute or two. The rest of the file is not imported at all.
After much digging in forums, and testing various settings in trying to figure out the issue, I decided to back up all of my files and completely wipe all hard drives and start over with a fresh installation of Windows and Premiere Elements 9. I haven't installed much else yet, as I wanted to first find out if the reinstallation improved things with Elements.
For the first project I created in Elements after the reinstallation, Elements successfully imported an entire AVI that was nearly 2 hours long, audio and video. This was a file that previously would not import properly into Elements. This suggested that my earlier installation of Elements must have been corrupted somehow. At this point I was very hopeful that all was well.
I proceeded to edit the video as I had wanted, saved the project, and exported it to an MPEG format file. I had originally wanted to export it as an MOV, but I hadn't yet installed Quicktime, so Elements couldn't do that just yet. The MPEG export was successful and plays fine.
However, I then installed Quicktime, and once it was finished, I restarted the PC and reloaded the same project. This time, Elements claimed the media was offline. I double-clicked on a segment of the video, and directed Elements to the raw file, but then an error message popped up: "The selected file cannot be linked because its type (video) does not match the original file's type (audio and video)." This was the same file I had JUST edited and of which I created an MPEG.
I tried creating a new project and the "Get Media" function to import the AVI again, but this time only the video imported with NO audio. (This would explain why the error message said what it did, but not why the audio wasn't imported.)
What in the world is going on with Elements??? I am baffled since the ONLY task I have done on this machine after a complete reinstallation of both Windows and Elements is edit one AVI. I find it very hard to believe that just installing Quicktime caused this.
Some info on my system:
System: Asus P6T w/ Intel i7 920 and 12 GB memory
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
Video Software: Premiere Elements 9
Capture Card: BlackMagic Intensity Pro (PCI-e)
Capture Software: AVIs recorded with either BlackMagic Media Express or VirtualDub (only prior to the reinstallation, as neither of these programs are currently installed)
I'm getting to the point with Elements that I might need to just abandon it and find something else that is more reliable. Anybody have suggestions to help with this, so I won't have to migrate?mtnsports
We think that we need to start off with definiting the properties of these .avi files that you are importing into Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 (assumed that you are working for the required 9.0.1 Update).
You say that the "avi" was created from a "BlackMagic Intensity Pro capture card". What are the properties of this .avi that you imported into Premiere Elements? Not all .avi are created equal. What is the video and audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, pixel aspect ratio, typical duration?
Based on the properties of the video what have you been setting as the project preset?

Why video does not play when embedded in a PDF when viewed in Windows 8?
I have a situation where video must be embedded within the PDF document and it was working for us using older versions of IE and on 32 bit machines and using acrobat X. When the same file was tested on Windows 8 it looks good and behaves well except the embedded video does not play. The same video (.mp4) will play on the new OS if it is not embedded in the PDF.
Is this because the PDF is looking for a 32 bit flash player? Am I doing something wrong and/or is there a fix for this situation?Are you watching the pdf file from Adobe Reader?
Windows 8 by default has a diferent reader for pdf files that does not support rich media elements. -

I have posted a H.264 video clip on my website. It's size is 31 MB. It had played great when I was testing it from my desktop, but once I post it, it does not play. "Q" logo shows up, then the very first frame of the video shows up, but that's it. It does not start to play. Here is the link:

reason I am doing all these conversions is to achieve the smallest file possible for internet streaming in shortest period of time. I am exporting my video from Final Cut Pro timeline as QT movie. Then it goes to Compressor to be converted to ProRes to make it progressive and to change frame size. Resulting file goes to Compressor again to be converted to H.264. ProRes is an intermediate codec saving a lot of compression time.
I am trying to check settings during last conversion (from ProRes to H.264): Make it Fast Start and change the audio to AAC. But even though resulting file shows that video is AAC, the file is not any smaller at all. And video does not upload any faster with Fast Start on. So obviously, I am doing something wrong. -
Video does not play in Viewer or Canvas
Hi, I am new to Final Cut Pro. I just imported a couple of .mov files into FCP and have added them to a sequence. When I try to play the files on the Canvas, the video does not play (just shows the first frame). Same goes for Viewer window for an individual file. Help!
You can't really use H264 directly in Final Cut Pro without a lot of hassle.
Your audio has the wrong sampling rate. Digital audio for video is always 48000 kHz.
Use QuickTime Player or Compressor to export a copy of your files using the ProRes codec with the correct audio settings. Bring those into FCP. -
Video does not show on iPad in reflowable epub
I placed a video in my InDesign file, as an FXL it works just fine, but when I export to reflowable epub, the video does not show on the iPad (I only see a blanc container), it only shows in iBooks on the desktop... Help, what am I doing wrong, am I missing something?
