Exporting 1-frame stills from fcp

Here's my problem: I've captured lots of 1-frame stills from clips, stored in the Browser. Using 24PA Anamorphic Setup, wanting my final DVD to play 16:9 on a widescreen LCD. I then create a new Anamorphic Sequence and drag all stills to the timeline. Then, I export all the stills as jpg's, using QT Conversion to jpg. This works fine. But when I look at the resulting stills in Photoshop, they are squashed. Now, I can convert them to QT files and then get a nice correction by exporting the stills back out of QT, using Show Movie Properties>Visual Settings>Unchecking "Preserve Aspect Ratio">Changing Dimensions to 853 x 480. But then I've got a QT file which doesn't open in Photoshop. Yikes! By the way, in fcp, it doesn't seem to matter what format I set for the export--png,jpg,photoshop, etc. The stills always look squashed, compared to the video that they came from. Thanks for your help.

Drew13 or anyone! Oops! I just discovered another problem. I changed the pixel aspect ratio of all the 1-frame stills that I had exported from my 16:9 fcp project, and while there in Photoshop they look correct. But if I open these pictures in Preview, they still look squeezed. Then, if I open them again in Photoshop, I get this notice, "Pixel aspect ration correction is for preview purposes only. Turn it off for maximum quality." When the picture opens, it looks correct at 16x9 again. Apparently, changing the pixel aspect ratio in Photoshop does not "really" change the photo. My goal is to use the exported stills in a DVD slideshow, and have them look correct at 16x9 dimensions, but now I'm stuck with all squeezed photo-stills. Hmm.

  • Making a still from FCP video

I need to make a still (JPEG, tiff, ...) from a frame of my video on FCP so I can put it in a Word doc afterwards.
    How do I proceed?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Place you playhead over the frame you want to create your still from, hit shift N and then export (using quicktime conversion) . Choose still image from the format menu and under options choose you prefered format, JPEG TIFF etc.

  • What is the best compressor setting to use ... when exporting a 720p timeline from FCP for a project that will only be played back in a standard def monitor?

What is the best compressor setting to use for DVD StudioPro ... when exporting a 720p 30 timeline from FCP for a project that will only be viewed in a standard def monitor?

Update: The iBook can play any 480p video and higher if I encode them with DivX and in AVI format. But of course this is not compatible with my iPhone 4. At least I can shrink my library now and get away from the full MPEG-2s. I don't get why I can't use Apple's h264 though. There has to be a setting I am missing. The sample Apple h264 videos from the days of Tiger worked flawlessly on my iBook when it was new so the CPU must be capable of decoding it. I really can't understand this.
Also, since I made my videos in English for my family, I had to create soft subtitles for my wife's Chinese family, and I can't get players like QT with perian or MPlayerX to sync them properly to an AVI encoded with DivX, they only sync well with the iPhone 4 m4v/mp4 formatted files I made. This is a real pickle.
So now I may need three or four copies of each video, LOL. I need to hardcode the subtitles if I want to use AVI to playback on older machines, and keep the mp4 file for the iDevices too, while keeping higher quality h264 videos for my American relatives...
If h264 is compatible with my iBook, what is the proper encoding settings? Must I dramatically lower the settings or frame rate? I can settle on 2 copies of each video that way. One iBook/G4/eMac compatible video that syncs correctly with my srt soft subs, and another version that works well with my iPhone 4 and iPad.
All in all, I will end up with more than 3 or 4 version of each video. On my late G5 dual core I have the full 720-1080p uncompressed master files. On my i5 iMac I have the h264 compressed versions for distribution, and lower versions for my iDevices. Now I need to keep either full MPEG-2 files for the iBook to play, or convert to older formats like DivX AVI for our family's legacy machines. I am running out of hard disk space quick now, LOL.
    Is there an easier way?

  • Export settings for sequence from FCP to Avid PC

    Hi,
Please can someone give me the best export settings/codecs to use if I need to export a FCP sequence with clips shot on XDCam EX1, 1920x1080i, 35 mbs at the least quality loss possible so that it can be imported into an Avid on PC for titling, effects and other bits added? My on-line editor is on Avid PC.
    Many thanks
    Belinda

    Hee....missed that final sentence somehow.
So...offlining imported footage on FCP that you will online in Avid? What is there to online? You imported at full resolution. Must be color correction.
OK then...you edit in FCP from imported XDCAM EX footage...and you intend to go to Avid for the final color correct and titling. Did you plan for this? Test this? because I am pretty sure that the QT files that were created when you imported with the transfer tool won't work on a PC. Unless you tested and they did. But it appears that they don't as you are asking how to get them there.
Did you not ask this question when you started this show? That is ALWAYS something you do. If you plan on doing a certain workflow, you have to make sure that the workflow in question will work. Offline and online from tape is fairly simple, as you can recapture from the tape...timecode being the big thing there. But this is IMPORTED footage. Full clips, and I don't see how you can import only what is used in a sequence.
This issue, coupled with FCP to Avid...and Avid on a PC no less. Well. Find a codec you can export from FCP that the Avid can read (this will require testing), then MEDIA MANAGE the footage to that codec. Hmm....but then how will the Avid read the FCP project file to reconnect to the footage?
Nope...I stand by my original answer. Output to XDCAM disk and recapture, or to HDCAM or HDCAM SR tape and recapture.

  • How can I export 1920x1080 Mp4 directly from FCP

How can I export 1920x1080 Mp4 directly from FCP

    Thanks Russ.
I wasn't thinking about the Apple Devices so much as the Master File set to Audio & Video which produces a .mov file.
I have normally used the Master File to export my videos but will experiment in future with "Computer".
I've taken a closer look with VideoSpec and notice that the data rate of the .mov file is about 70% of the .mp4 and the file size is correspondingly smaller.
The export/render time of the .mov is also somewhat quicker.

  • How do I export a selected still from my iMovie?

In iMovie I have selected frames of salsa dance practice from my movie clips and now want to be able to export these stills into Photoshop or to e-mail them. Please can you help me?

iMovie quit on me several times as I was doing final edits on a movie I'd been working on for 20 hours over the past 3 days... It literally vanished from the list and isn't even in the finder (as if it never existed!) ... Every other film on the Project Library, etc. has stayed in place, even bits of newer stuff I had imported more recently to start work on.... And as I know iMovie self-saves constantly, I would expect slightly earlier versions of it still to be there... but, NO!, it seems to have utterly erased itself! How on earth do I retrieve my evaporated movie?? There must be a ghost trace of it somewhere! Please help! I put my soul into creating this film and feel heartbroken if it is lost for good. Something about the process cannot be repeated. Many thanks.

  • Still from FCP sequence

    Hi everybody,
I have a problem exporting a still image from a FCP sequence that is rendered fine.
I have selected format under options of still image under export with QT. Seems to do something with I click on register, but nothing is done. I can't find any picture. I even searched my disk with "find" to make sure.
I never had this problem before. I just re-installed my FCP5.1, and upgraded. Nothing works.
    What could be wrong ?
    Thanks in advance
    Ivan

Just to make sure go to the finder, open a new window (apple, N) then when the new window opens push Apple F to do a search. Change the where it says kind to Date Created and then right next to that choose Today. You will get a list of all the files you created today. If it doesn't come up with the images then you will know for sure that you didn't create, final cut pro is broken and you're screwed...
Just kidding. I would then trash prefernces, repair permissions and so forth. Before we go there do what I just described and report back.

  • Exporting a frame, stills question?

    Hi guys,
My project is an HDV 50i PAL project and I have used the export-frame option and used some of these still frames on my timeline too.
It says the image is 1440x1080 and pixel aspect ratio is 1.333.
When exporting the final movie I export to dv avi then burn a dvd through encore.
Some are the pictures have wobbles on the edges or show the signs of the interlaced frames. (some do, some don't)
Can someone expain how to make these look better at the start?
    Thanks
    scott mackenzie

before you export picture try right button clicking and select Alway Deinterlace or Flicker remove (seems to work better)

  • Exporting Surround AC-3 from FCP with Compressor

I have a sequence in Final Cut with Video and the 6 audio tracks of a 5.1 surround configuration from the audio editor. I would like to be able to export the video as MPEG-2 and Audio as AC3 in one step using compressor.
I understand how to assign these tracks to seperate outputs of the FCP mixer, export audio as individual AIFFs and then send them to Compressor or APACK manually,but....
I'm wondering is there a way in which Compressor can recognize these discrete outputs and encode them directly to AC3 without having to "export audio as Aiff" first?
    Brian
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I checked the FCStudio Workflows pdf, and it does not describe a method for exporting surround directly to compressor from a multichannel FCP sequence. I think this may be a limitation of the audio format, either aiff, or the quicktime movies, in that they only support 2-channel audio. FCP will give you separate outputs for monitoring and output, but the quicktime files that compressor uses as its source are probably limited to 2 channels, hence the need to output the 3 pairs as individual files.

  • Exporting QT raw captures from FCP

    Hello
I was wondering if anyone could help me.
I am taking raw capture files in QT format (from a Hi-8 source) via Final Cut and giving them to a client to edit and transcode into WMV's.
I have just captured a very long tape but accidentally cut the end off, therefore i had to recapture the last few minutes.
There seems to be no way to combine these two raw QT's, so my question is...
Is there a way to export these files (once i combine them in FCP) into one QT (that retains the original quality of the raw capture) so that the client wouldn't know?
    Thanks

You can edit, copy and paste, between open QT Player files using nothing more than QT Pro. Open both into independent players, copy one, paste it into the other.
Umm, I know it can be done, but I havent' used QT Pro to build anything for more than five years so...
RTFM, see the online help system for QT Pro.

  • Can't export to quicktime v10 from FCP 5

I have recently loaded FCP 5 (Not Studio) onto a G5 iMac.
When I try and export to quicktime it only exports the first
18 seconds or so. My FCP 5 worked fine on my iMac G-4 with Quicktime 7.6 but it doesn't export on my G-5 using Quicktime 10.
It will export using quicktime conversion, but then I cannot get my chapter markers.
    Any and all help appreciated.
    Michael the Hunter

    Thanks for the response.
On my G4 I am using 10.04.11 and it works just fine with my FCP 5. The G 5 that I am having trouble with FCP 5 is Snow Leopard. I figured that the Snow Leopard OS was probably the problem along with Quicktime 10. And you have confirmed that.
Looks like I will have to purchase a newer version of FCP for the G 5 and use my FCP 5 on my old G 4. Thank you apple.
    Thanks for your input.

  • Export FLV or SWF from FCP Studio 2?

I had FCP 5 and was able to export using > Quicktime Conversion> Macromedia FLV or Macromedia SWF.
For some reason, I can't do it anymore, since the options have disappeared. Any ideas on where I can find the plug-ins needed or updates?

I bought OnFlix Exporter to do this. Flash is proprietary to Macromedia, so I'm pretty sure you need to pay to add this capability to Final Cut Pro.
A very cheap program that will make Flash movies for you, without tying up your Final Cut system to do converstions, is Mediahub.

  • Exporting for the web from FCP 6

Hi. I have a 20-minute long sequence in FCP6 and I need to export it so I can send it to someone via YouSendIt. What is the best way to do this so that I end up with a file that is less than 100 mb?
    Thanks,
    Andy

You need to give us more information.  What are your sequence settings?
But generally, I'd recommend exporting with current settings (file:  export:  quicktime move NOT quicktime conversion) and bring the resulting file into compressor and use the apple:  otherworkflows:  web:  download:  quicktime 7 compatible:  LAN or 800 kbs preset  (or someting like this, I'm not on my editing system).  When you apply it to your file, you'll get an estimated file size in the summary paenl of the inspector.
One thing to do in compressor is to turn frame controls on in the frame controls panel and make sure the resize filter is set to best.   This will increase the processing time, but improve quality.

  • Export 'flv' file straight from FCP

    Hi,
I need to find a program to enable me to export straight from Final Cut time line to 'flv' file,as I need to save time rather than exporting from Final Cut and then to flv. Is there any program that does this?

    Hello there,
for Flash 8 video (VP6-E/S codecs) you would need something like:
*On2 Flix Exporter* - QT export component ($199)
    http://www.on2.com/index.php?399
*Flip4Mac Episode* - Batch Encoder app with free Apple Compressor integration plugin ($395)
    http://www.flip4mac.com/episode1.htm
    http://www.flip4mac.com/pdfs/EpisodeCompressorQuickstart.pdf
For Flash 9 video (Flash Player 9 Update 3) you would only need Compressor (or Episode) as Flash 9 video no longer uses the proprietary On2 VP6 codec but standards-based MPEG4/AVC (H.264).

  • Exporting from FCP: Pixellated

    Hi there
I'm exporting A QT movie from FCP using current settings and making it self contained but on playback there is one frame that produces pixellation. The frame does not appear to be pixellated in FCP.
Can anyone give me any clues please?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the forum,
It's possible you have some fragment of video placed way outside your material on the timeline and when exporting, FCP will continue for that entire time till it's played.
Before you export, set an IN point and an OUT point in the timeline.
This should limit the export to just the segment you want.
    good luck,
    x
and please don't double post ...
