Exporting 16:9 file to quicktime and importing to dvd studio pro

Please help I am using final cut 7. I just exported a Dvd anamorphic movie file to quicktime file. The completed file is a 4:3 where the anamorphic image is squeezed. When I import into dvd studio pro to burn a dvd it stays as a 4:3 file and is then being encoded as 4:3.
When I exported the file  from final cut i used current settings ( as in my final cut audio video settings it is DV anamorphic)
How do I export retaining the 16:9 ratio?

In DVDSP, in the graphical view, click on the track to select it, and look at the the track inspector (menu View > Show Inspector). Make sure the track Display Mode is set to 16:9 Letterbox. This will play the track full screen 16:9 if played on a 16:9 TV, and will automatically letterbox it if played on a 4:3 TV.

  • Compressor 4.1: exporting files to import into DVD Studio Pro

    Hey folks,
Having issues trying to figure out how to generate both the .m2v  and the .ac3 files to import into my "legacy" application of DVD Studio Pro. I have separate projects all done...clients waiting... and ready to export from FCPX.
It seems that the only function that this new Compressor can do, is to build the files and then automatically build and burn a DVD. I need to create my own menus and chapters. I  USED to be able to do this in my older version of Compressor easily.
Am I stuck? I did not know that this version would act in this manner in the "upgrade". If I could...I'd rather have my older version back!

Select the job. In the Inspector choose When Finished, Do Nothing.
You will get the two elementary files saved to whatever location you specify. You can import those files into DVDSP.

  • AAC audio file increase in size when imported into DVD Studio Pro

    Hello all!
I just encountered a very unique issue with the DVD Studio Pro. I used the compressor to export my video as an MPEG2 file and my audio as AAC file. After the compression my audio file had an .mpg4 extention and was about 160MB in size. When I imported it into my DVD Studio Pro project, however, the audio increased in size to 1.2 GB. I tried so many different compressions, but the problem really is (I think) that the file bumps up in size once imported into DVD SP project. Is there anything in preferences that I need to adjust or change? Please help!
    Thank you.

    Hi
I'm a little lost now with versions history, but if you have A.Pack in your App folder, then must use it. Check this tutorial: Encoding AC3 with A.Pack.
Compressor 2 and 3 has AC3 encoding inside the main application.

  • What kind of Macromedia Flash Files Can I Import into DVD Studio Pro 4 ?

    Hello there,
I have this silly question for you guys but I read
the Technical Specifications of DVD Studio Pro 4
    at this link
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/dvdstudiopro/specs.html
    it has under import
    ** Macromedia Flash 5 **
So I tryed to import a swf file into my project and I'm getting an incompatible file error message.
Do I have to do something with my flash file (ie: omit Action Script) or It's not posible to import a file from flash?
    thank you Very Much
    Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I am having the same issue. I am new to compressor and DVD studio so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong.
I just compressed a 20 minute video in the 90 minute best SD compressor format. The file name end with .compressor. When I try drag the file from the finder into the assets window of compressor, I get a dialog box that says: incompatible format. How annoying!

  • Aperture stills importing to DVD Studio Pro

apart from loading all my aperture library into iPhoto (and that generates loads of extra files on the drive), is there a way to import stills from Aperture into DVD Studio Pro? There seems to be an iphoto or a file browser input but nothing from Aperture. Any ideas folks?

Have you tried dragging the folder of stills from the finder into the DVDSP assets tab?

  • .264 file format won't go into DVD Studio Pro Timeline

    Hi,
I am a wedding videographer who has been filming in HD for a company for awhile, but now I am editing my own projects. I very recently got the FCP 7 update and bought an external blu-ray burner. The new update let’s you compress your HD footage into blu-ray .264 video files, but my mac computer doesn’t appear to be able to read the format and DVD Studio Pro won’t accept in into the program nevertheless the timeline. I am not sure what to do as I had been battling this for awhile and I thought I had it figured out, but I’m stumped. Can anyone help me with this? I know this is a brand new update and mac has been hesitant about working with blu-ray.

DVD Studio Pro is used to make DVDs. If you want to use FCS to make a BD, then you need to open Compressor, create a new batch from template (select "Create Blu-ray disc"), drop in your exported movie, and do it from there.

  • Timeline settings and transferring to DVD Studio Pro

I'm currently trying to get my demo reel finished, and I'm going through the long and tedious process of checking almost every setting in the Timeline settings to see which gives me the best quality.
Part of the problem may be that this is coming off of a DV tape. But I'm hoping to try out all my options before I settle on lower quality.
Does anyone have any suggestions on settings I can use (even if it's somewhere other than the Timeline settings) to get the best quality. I'm moving it in to DVD Studio Pro to finish out the reel, if that is crucial info. Thanks.
One other quick thing: I'm also trying to upload this to a video service. Any body got any suggestions on Quicktime settings I should use?
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Work in DV all the way, that will give you the best quality unless you want to add graphics. If you have complex graphics to add then make the timeline 10bit.
For DVDSP render out a self contained movie then either use compressor or DVDSP to encode the file. There are many settings in DVDSP, take a look at which ones are best based on content duration.

  • How do I mix 4:3 and HD on DVD Studio Pro?

I am producing a DVD with DVD Studio Pro v4. The main content is 4:3 but I have other supporting content that is 16:9, more home movie style, that I want to put into an extras folder. Is this possible, or do I have to chop the 16:9 content to 4:3? Can the DVD support both? Can't find any reference in the manual. Options, anyone?

I found the answer. You can't. I'm dong the 16:9 content as anamorphic and see if that works. Or I will letterbox it. Please no worries about this one folks.

  • Exporting / Importing into DVD Studio Pro from Final Cut Pro

    Hi All,
I am am exporting footage from FCP HD and importing it into DVDSP, the final DVD will be set to 16:9. So what do I export my files from FCP as? Someone told me that I don't export it at 16:9, I export it so it's squashed and then DVD SP does it's thing to it...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
When I do this I work in FCP using a 16:9 format setting then export using Compressor. In Compressor I choose a best quality option and make sure the 16:9 setting is enabled in the settign dialog box (in the Batch window next to Source Media - just double click on setting).
In DVDSP you simply ensure the project is in PAL or NTSC and 16:9 format.
This takes care of the whole thing with the finished article paying back fine on 16:9 monitors.
    Best of luck

  • File import to DVD Studio Pro-incompatible format

    hallo,
i made from an final cut studio project with DVCPRO HD 720 50p material via compressor an new compressed file with ".mov" suffix.
    the attitude in compressor was:
    H.264 10,3 Mbits/s for HD DVD
the film is about 20 minutes
also after repeated tries it dosn't work.
    i get the announcement:
"incompatible format" when i try the import
    what to do?
    thank you for answering

Are you trying to make an SD DVD or an HD DVD (which only play on Macs, and the now obsolete HD DVD players)?
If you are trying to make an SD DVD, then you are using the wrong format. Export out of FCP using the DVCPRO codec. Bring that into Compressor and make a MPEG-2 for your video and a AC3 for your audio. Bring those files into DVD SP.

  • Sync Issues and Audio Drop-out from FCP to DVD Studio Pro

I have edited a piece in FCP 5.1.4 and all audio/video is in perfect sync. I have been using this program for several years with no issues, until now. Upon exporting with compressor and importing into DVD Studio Pro, the audio is out of sync by 15 seconds and after that first 15 seconds there is simply NO audio, period.
Any ideas? Please send the calvary...tight deadline and the hanging rope is getting shorter and shorter by the minute!
    Thanks

Could be something got corrupted in DVD SP (preferences). I have had my audio act strangely and playback getting bogged down. Repairing permissions and deleting prefs works for this one for me. Did you do any recent upgrades to the OS or QuickTime?

  • IMovie and DVD Studio Pro

Finding myself using iMovie 11" more and more and not using Final Cut Studio, but i still rather use DVD Studio Pro 4 rather then iDVD. I usually mark my chapters in FCP 7 and i see that you also can mark chapters in iMovie, how i can export from iMovie at the higest quality and still retain the chapters and import into DVD Studio Pro.
    Thanks

I just finished making another DVD and I now recall the exact command. In DVDSP, right-click the movie file after it is placed in a track and select "Add embedded markers". If your movie file has chapter markers in it, they will appear.
Sometimes when I add a movie to a track in DVD Studio Pro, the embedded markers automatically appear and sometimes I have to manually add them with the above command.
The import markers command needs a special file with marker names and timecodes. iMovie cannot make one of these files although you can create your own in TextEdit. But that seems like more work than just adding them manually in DVDSP.

  • AVI Files in DVD Studio Pro come out with no sound

I tried putting some AVI files through compressor and then into DVD Studio Pro only...no sound. I've been told I should convert the files but I was wondering if there was any other way I could go about making DVDs out of these AVIs that would play on any player. Why is there no sound? How I make sure there is sound? Totally lost in this instance and any help would be appreciated. Thank you all.

My guess is that you may have the sound files, but not spotted them...
When you encode your video with Compressor it splits out the sound form the video, making 'elementary' streams for DVDSP. This is perfectly normal. In compressor, if you apply a standard preset for encoding you get to choose what sort of audio you want. If you didn't set up your audio encode then you may only have the video after all.
If so, go back to compressor and re-encode and make sure you get the audio out - in AC3 format. Bring that into DVDSP and all will be well.

  • "file is not compatible when import assets in dvd studio pro, my file are .mov and .mp4, what is the problem?

i have a MacBook Pro v. 10.7.5, also have dvd studio pro 4.2.2
I have a file exported from final cut v. 7, using quick time movie option, it created a file with .mov. When I import to dvd studio pro, I have an error
message " file is not compatible". shall I export again using different parm? settings? thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks, Russ. I had my problem resolved by re-creating file from Final Cut using the "Video Format" as "MPEG-4 improved" instead of "H.264" before.
My orginial source is a dvd came from Taiwan, I used software 'Handbrake' to convert it to MPEG-4. Input to Final Cut to edit it. Exported out with H.264 as Video Format, wishing to improve the image quality but run into 'file impaitable' when import to DVD SP.
Now. I exported out Final Cut using the following parms, pictures quality is not bad.
    1. File format = MP4
    2. Image size= 1280x720 HD
    3. frame rate = 30
    4. video format = MPEG-4 Improved
hope this help people who might run into same problem. I never use the Compressor, will try it next time. thanks Russ.
