Exporting a book to another Mac with iPhoto 6

Is there any way to move an iPhoto Photo Book off my computer to another that has the same iPhoto software? I need to continue working on it on my laptop while I travel.
Anyone got any ideas?
thanks!

Yes, you can do this.
Copy your entire iPhoto Library folder to the desktop. (In Finder, with iPhoto closed.) Rename the copy (iPhoto Book Library). Option-Launch iPhoto and choose the desktop copied library. Delete all photos, etc. not needed for the book. Burn to disk from within iPhoto. When you load the disk into the other Mac, again Option-launch iPhoto and choose the book library, which will work but still remain separate from that Mac's existing library.
If you wish to merge the book library with the existing iPhoto library you can use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager.

Open the Mac App Store on the other Mac and in the Quick Links sign into your account. See if the Mountain Lion purchase is among hidden apps in the iCloud area of your account info.

  • Moving a Photo Book to another Mac?

    Greetings,
I don't see an answer to this in the Help Menu of iPhoto 5, so I hope someone can help me:
I just finished spending countless hours assembling a Photo Book for the very first time in iPhoto 5. (I'm running an old Mac G5 dual 2.7 PPC.) After all of that work, I get a dialog box telling me that Apple no longer accepts purchases from iPhoto 5, and that I should upgrade to a newer version of iLife for $75. Imagine my surprise that the software that I spent my hard earned money on is no longer being supported.
Rather than spending money upgrading iLife on an old computer that's on it's last legs, I'm wondering if I can move the necessary data for this photo book to my wife's newer Mac with a newer version of iLife, so I can finally purchase this photo book that I've worked so hard on. I know that I can copy the original photos to her Mac and recreate the photo book from scratch, but I'd rather not lose all the work that I've already done editing each individual picture; not to mention their placement in the photo book and each photo's individual zoom level.
Is this possible, and if so, please give specific details on how to accomplish this. My G5 is too old to meet the minimum requirements to run iLife '09...

Thanks for your quick reply. The two computers are not networked. Is there another way to transfer only the necessary data; either via thumb drive or DVD?
The entire library needs to be moved. If it will fit on a drive such as those, they can be used; if the drive isn't in Mac OS Extended format, it needs to be reformatted or the library put in a disk image prior to transport, both of which can be done from the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder.
If the library needs to be split up, reassemble it completely before attempting to open it in iPhoto on the new computer.
Photo books can't be moved individually between iPhoto libraries.

  • Is it possible to export a Book from Aperture 3 to iPhoto?

I shot a wedding for a friend and made a layout of a book on Aperture 3.
Printed a few books which I thought were beautiful.
I was wondering if it would be possible to export this book from Aperture (with the layout and photos intact) as a file (editable or read-only), so my friend can import and open it using iPhoto and order more copies of the book through Apple when she pleases.
Tried Google and couldn't find an answer. Thank you for taking the time.

How about importing from iPhoto into Aperture 3?
I have made a photobook in iPhoto and then bought Aperture 3, but I can't find it possible to export the book in a format that I can open in Aperture. Also, when I export the book in size Large or above, iPhoto crashes.

  • How to export Address Book content as Unicode with applescript?

    Hello,
I have a problem for exporting address book content. I'd like to export "My Card" to a vcf file and use another application to read it. So I have the following applescript:
    *+tell application "Finder"+*
*+set theFolder to folder "TemporaryItems" of folder "Caches" of folder "Library" of home+*
    *+end tell+*
    *+tell application "Address Book"+*
*+set theVcard to (vcard of my card) as Unicode text+*
*+set theFile to (theFolder as text) & "myCard.vcf"+*
*+set theFileHandle to open for access theFile with write permission+*
*+-- write (ASCII character of 254) to theFileHandle+*
*+-- write (ASCII character of 255) to theFileHandle+*
    *+write theVcard to theFileHandle+*
    *+close access theFileHandle+*
    *+end tell+*
OK, now the problem is that if "My Card" has any double-byte characters like Chinese or Arabic, the output file will just hold some question marks ("??"). The code works in Tiger but not Leopard. (Add char 254 and 255 just to make it a UTF16-BE file. So it doesn't really change the result of this script.)
I started digging and guess here is the reason: in the following statement the "vcard of my card" will always return plain text:
+*set theVcard to (vcard of my card) as Unicode text*+
I got this clue from the help of ScriptEditor:
+*vcard (text, r/o) : Person information in vCard format, this always returns a card in version 3.0 format.*+
But in Tiger, you can see:
+*vcard (Unicode text, r/o) : Person information in vCard format, this always returns a card in version 3.0 format.*+
Any workaround to solve this problem?
(And if this is not the right place to ask such question, please just let me know.)
    Thanks a lot!
    Calvin

    Hello Calvin,
Since your code works under OSX10.4 and fails under OSX10.5, the cause would be the change made in AppleScript 2.0.
    Try -
write theVcard as Unicode text to theFileHandle
    instead of -
    write theVcard to theFileHandle
The read/write commands in AS 2.0 have been change so that they will always interpret the text in system's primary encoding if 'as Unicode text' is not specified in commands' parameter.

  • How to Transfer Address Book to Another Mac?

I want to move my existing Address Book to another family member's new Mac. We've been using a shared Mail account and my wife just wants the addresses and auto-completes on her new Macbook Pro. My idea is to copy the Address Book from our iMac and put it into the same location on her Macbook Pro. It's in User/Library/Applications Support. Will this do the trick?
    Thanks,
    Steve M.

P.S. Would exporting and importing the Address Book archive also transfer the mail auto-complete data?
Yes, it does, if you are talking about the Previous Recipients.
An address book archive is just a copy of your user/Library/Application Support/AddressBook folder packaged up differently. That folder contains the previous recipients database.
If you don't have any contacts in your new address book, then transferring it via the archive should work.
You can also just copy contents of the AddressBook folder mentioned above.

  • Moving iphoto5 files to new Mac with iPhoto 6

Just bought a new G5 which came with iPhoto 6, had backed up my files from my old G5 which were in iPhoto 5 on an external drive. Having a very hard time getting new mac to load up the photos. I replaced the iPhoto file on the new MAc with the old file - still comes up ss no photo's. I can open the files and see them, but new machine/iPhoto is not recognizing them. Would also like to bring over the folders and slideshows as well. Please help???

Here's one more possibility before you start the tedious process of one by one:
Use iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild your V5 library. It creates a new library by copying the image files and necessary data from the old one. Then you can try to have iPhoto 6 open the rebuild model and see it it will recognize the image files. Here's how:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.

  • Exporting a book as PDF - problem with joint pages

    Hello,
I'm trying to export a book that has many chapters.  Each chapter is a single file.  Each document starts with an odd page and finishes with an even page.
What the command is doing is something like this image below.  Where page 4 for example is 4 & 5 joint together.  Is there any way to tell it to print individual pages to PDF?
    Thank you!
    Nano

Looks like you're trying to export to interactive PDF. By default that exports spreads and you get what you are seeing.
You can either change to export to PDF (Print) (and lose button functionality), or you can run a script to change the behavior of interactive export. One place you'll find the script is at Interactive PDF from InDesign CS5 Always Has Spreads On | InDesignSecrets

  • Create DBA files to export Centro Database to Another Mch with Palm Desktop Installed

"All the info"?  Or just the PIM data?
If you want to Export the database information in Contacts or the Calendar, use Palm Desktop's "Export" function.  Open Contacts, choose File/Export to save the info to a file.
This can then be "Imported" by the other Centro's Palm Desktop, whether on another computer, or another Hotsync User Name on the same computer.

  • Burn project to edit on another mac with logic

can i burn my track i have made on my mac with logic express 7 and put it on another mac running the same and finish it off on that? also how do i burn my project as an audio cd?

Absolutely. Find where your Logic project is stored (mine is Music/Logic) and then grab the whole folder and burn it to CD. Copy it to another computer, and open the .lso file. Burning your audio files to CD can be done through iTunes, or select the burn option when you bounce. Best, Fred

  • Copy all of "My Desktops" to another Mac with Microsoft Remote Desktop v8.0.9

I have almost 1,000 entry under  "My Desktops" in Microsoft Remote Desktop v8.0.9 and I'm looking for a quick way to transfer all of them to another Mac.
I thought I could just copy the .plist file at:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.rdc.mac/Data/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.rdc.mac.plist
to my new computer and I'd be good to go but that's not working.
    I also found the
    ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.rdc.mac/Data/Library/Application Support/Microsoft Remote Desktop
folder and copied that as well (tho the folders here look to be empty, I see the folder names match entries in the .plist). Yet, "My Desktops" is empty.
I also noticed when I copy the .plist over to the new laptop it's 946 KB in size. I run the RDP client on the new computer and the .plist file size drops down to 10 KB in size.
I really do not want to export all 1,000 entries and copy those files over to the new computer. I've found that the exported files when run require you to enter the username/password verse automatically getting it from (I assume) the keychain.
Is there anyway to copy all my RDP hosts from 1 Mac to another Mac?
    Thanks.

    Figured this issue out.
Make sure Microsoft Remote Desktop is not running.
Copy the plist file from the old computer:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.rdc.mac/Data/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.rdc.mac.plist
to the same location on the new computer.
Copy the folder from the old computer:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.rdc.mac/Data/Library/Application Support/Microsoft Remote Desktop
to the same location on the new computer.
    $ sudo killall cfprefsd
This killall is the key. Looks like preferences are cached.
I used this URL for help to figure that out.

you can use your network. you can use an external HD. or, connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in _*Target Disk Mode*_, and copy the iTunes folder over.

  • Can I restore backup from another mac with time machine?

I would like to restore files from a TM backup from another Mac - is this possible? Thanks.

I'm not sure I know how to help. I use OS X Server's Time Machine services from a Mac Mini to do my back ups to a drive connected to that server. I have the same user account on one MBP Retina that does not do back ups as another MBP Retina that DOES back ups. However, I can't even open the sparse bundle from the one that doesn't do back ups of the one that does (if that makes sense).
You might try and see if this link helps. This guy was the TM guru around here. He might have addressed a solution to what you're trying to do.

  • Mac Book Pro/iMac help with iPhoto

    Hello,
I have a Mac Book Pro and an iMac.
We have stored over 1500 photos on my MacBook Pro.
We also have an iMac with Lightroom 2 on it.
I'm trying to transfer all of the photos from the MacBook Pro onto an external hard drive.
I would then take the external hard drive and transfer the photos to the iMac with the Lightroom 2.
Anyone know how to do this?
I need step by step instructions...........help!

There is no simple way to go from iPhoto to Lightroom. Lightroom cannot make any sense of the iPhoto Library (and vice versa). In essence, you're starting over from scratch.
So, export the pics from iPhoto (File ->Export) and put them on the external.
Plug it into the other machine and import them into Lightroom.

  • .Mac with iPhoto question

Just asked same question in iWeb forum. I would like to have several friends access a bunch of photos on the internet and each must access a specific bunch of pictures with a password. Each bunch is about 400 to 600 pictures of about 100kb each. It must be available to view on Mac as well as Windows and must not require RSS browsers. Can I do it within iPhoto to iWeb ? Thanks

    Pat:
You might be able to. Go to the .Mac page with Safari and login to your account. The click on the Homepage button. In the right pane there are two buttons, Protect this site and Add another site. I haven't done that but am guessing you can protect that second site and create a third. It's worth a shot testing it out. It would require creating a homepage of those photos but should work.
