Exporting a highlighted section of the song
Is there a way to highlight a certain section of a song then export just that part instead of the entire song?
If you create a playback region (loop region), the application exports just that portion of the project.

these songs were bought using my old iPhone/on an old computer so it isn't possible for me to copy the files to another device. how do i find them?
Hello jaggerseyes
I would check the purchase history to see the purchases. If you have any further questions about it, there is another article that will assist with getting back those purchases resolved.
On a computer with iTunes installed, click purchase history to have iTunes open and display your purchase history. You will be prompted for your Apple ID and password.

The tutorial says to simply highlight and drag, but that does not work. Any suggestions?

It should do. Which Playlist are you trying to re-arrange? Is it one you have created or one of the iTunes fixed ones? (Although it is possible to re-arrange the Recently Added Playlist, I would not recommend it.) -
I have songs on my iPod and iTunes where sections of the song ranging from 40 seconds to 2 minutes will not play. The song status bar indicates the file is still being played there is no audio. What can I do to repair or replace these files?
If iTunes purchases, delete and redownload by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise delete and resync if they play OK in iTunes on the computer -
ITunes encoding, Pb addition of a few seconds at the end of the song
Hi all,
I am facing a new problem. For a week when I encode my songs. M4A in iTunes or other.
It adds 2 or 3 seconds of the song at the end of it !
I trashed the iTunes pref but nothing works (on my 2 computers).
I encoded in XLD no problem.
I changed the computer for my MAC PRO BROOK (same problem).
I have an Imac in 2009 under 10.6.8
My mac book Pro is also under 10.6.8
Is this a bug in this system? For two different machines affected may be a software problem right?
Thank you very much for your help.Ristiina,
I don't think we understand your situation yet.
When you say "encoding," are you talking about ripping from CD, or about converting the format?
Are you trying to get AAC files (M4A as you refer to) or MP3 (as you also refer to)?
In the "few seconds" it is adding, do you hear silence, or is it repeating a section of the song? -
I need to edit out parts of a song to cut it down to two minutes for my daughter's talent show. I went to info/start time and it will cut down one part but only one part. I need to put three parts together. I tried adding duplicates of the song to the list but if If I change the start time on one it will change it on all of them.
In your library, right-click the song you want to edit.
select "get info".
go to "options" and select the start and stop times for your first section of the song.
click "OK".
Find the shortened version of the song in your library. It may take a minute for it to show up. right click it again and select "create (????) version". (the ???? is different for different formats).
The library will spit out a new, second version of the song which you can rename. I suggest you use the original title and add a 1 to the end.
Now you can go back to the other version and repeat the process with a different start/stop time.
Once you are done editing, you can burn all of your versions to a disk, just make sure your interval time is zero so there are no gaps between edits.
To keep the orginal song on your library, just go back to the original and put the start/stop times back to the original settings. -
Can you change the song order in iTunes?
I imported an album from my hard drive to iTunes but the songs are showing up out of order and I don't want to import the live album to my iPod in the wrong order. I've checked the info on all of the tracks and everything is correct.
How do I get the songs back into their proper order before importing to my iPod?I imported an album from my hard drive to iTunes
but
the songs are showing up out of order and I don't
want to import the live album to my iPod in the
wrong
order. I've checked the info on all of the tracks
and everything is correct.
How do I get the songs back into their proper
order
before importing to my iPod?
This is what I would do. Enter the album name in the
search bar in iTunes. Once all the tracks show up
and if they are still out of order, click the Album
tab and that should put them in proper order. Then
once that is done, hook up your iPod, select all
album tracks, and then drag to your iPod. That
should solve your problem. Let me know if this works
or does not work.
I actually was able to solve this myself. I highlighted all of the songs, and went to get info. I then made sure they were all of the same album (they were when I imported them). Once I entered the album name in the required field, the songs snapped into their original order (which is crucial when listening to a live album!).
Thanks for your help though. -
i use an iphone 3gs can i set one of the song as ring tone or i will only be able to use the inbuilt ringtones?
yes you can
A. how to make a ringtone using iTunes
First, open up iTunes in order to make a ringtone using iTunes. Find the song you want to turn into a ringtone by browsing through your music library.
Next, find exactly what part of the song you want to make a ringtone using iTunes. For example, if you want to use a specific section of the song from 21 seconds to 40 seconds, make a note of where you want the ringtone to begin and end.
Now, right click on the song you want to turn into a ringtone. Click "Get Info". Now, in order to make a ringtone using iTunes, click the "Options" tab.
Check the "Start Time" check box. Type in the point in the song where you want the ringtone to start in the format "minute:seconds" (e.g. the second mark would be 0:20). You can also be more precise by adding a period and putting milliseconds in after that (e.g. 0:20.150, would be 20.150 seconds). Also, click the "Stop Time" check box and enter where you would like the ring tone to end. Keep in mind ringtones can only be around 39 seconds maximum. Press "Ok". We are almost done making a ringtone in iTunes
Now, right click on the same song. Select "Convert AAC Version". If it is in another file format, you can go to "Edit" then "Preferences" and under the "General" tab click "Import Settings"; change the file format to AAC. After you select "Convert AAC Version" a new file will be created, but it will only be the segment of the song that you specified earlier.
Now, you have to find the file you just created. Right click on the new, shorter song and select "Open in Windows Explorer". The file extension should be .m4a. Rename the extension to .m4r by right clicking the file and selecting "Rename".
Now you can delete the shortened version of the song in your iTunes library. Then, double click the .m4r file and it will loaded into your iTunes Ringtone list. Now you can make a ringtone using iTunes! -
I have added a song to replace the Revolution's theme music. Is ther a way to set a specific section of the song to play instead of the entire song?
Not with iTunes. If you want a specific part of a track you should edit a copy of the track with a 3rd party audio editor to leave just the portion you want. Then import that clip into iTunes and use in iDVD.

I put songs onto my IPhone 4, and they show up under the "On This Phone" section in itunes, but when I go to play the songs on my phone, they aren't there. How can I fix this?
When you look at your iPhone, are you looking in the Music app or in the iTunes app? Be sure you are looking in the Music app, and look in the Songs category. If your songs are not here, you may want to try syncing your information again through iTunes. To do this, uncheck "Sync Music" and then click apply or sync in the bottom right corner of iTunes, and then recheck "Sync Music" and then click apply or sync again.
I hope this helps! -
I see songs such as "Monday, Monday" or "Paint It, Black" or even the artist name such as "Fireballs, with Jimmy Gilmer" which have comma's in them, being a problem when I try to do the following:
1. Export a playlist which contains songs which are all there and play fine, but some have comma's in the title such as listed above.
2. I then open that file in Excel and bring it in as a Tab-delimited file. Everything lays out fine, and all the songs are thing (including those with comma's).
3. I then sort the varoius fields I want (which I can't do in i-tunes because i-tunes won't sort it properly), and resave the file as a newly named file, which is also a .txt file.
4. I then import that playlist into my itunes. It is exactly the same songs that I just had exported but i-tunes says some of the songs can't be found.
I have traced this problem to comma's in the file name of the song such as listed above. There must be a solution to this either as the file is opened in excel or in how it's saved or some other solution short of having to rename song/artists without using comma's.
Thanks. The additional problem is the file name of the song itself. Even if I were able to delete the commas or replace with a space for example, changing the file name would result in itunes not being able to find the file. I would have to go through each file (out of about 15,000+ songs) to find any that have titles such as described in this thread and change not only the song and artist in the fields, but changing the mp3 file itself.
I fear that I am really pretty much going to have to start with a list of songs that have no comma and then do a file compare to find those songs with commas and then just physically moving them into a new playlist I'm trying to create, but this is a royal pain as I want to be able to create a variety of playlists based on these chart dates/peak positions.
I'm trying to sort the songs in this manner: I use different fields in itunes so that I can put the "peak position" of each song based on Billboard charts, as well as the date the peak position was acheived. I use the "comment box" for that. I use the "grouping" field for my peak position.
So I end up with something like "10/14/1980" in the comment box as the peak position for a song which is in the grouping field, and so forth. If I try to sort the comments column in itunes for example, it won't sort properly. If I sort the Grouping field, it will bring up all the "1's", but that's followed by "10", 11, ...19, then "2", etc. This is why I want to export the playlist and sort it as I want, and then reimport the playlist into itunes.
What I'm ultimately trying to achieve is a year-by-year peak position playlist so that I end up with every #1 song (in this case) from, say, January 1st 1980 and then every #1 song in sequential order for the rest of the year falls in line. I have chart position dates from 1955 through 1999. I have entered in all the data from Billboard books I own so I can really create some amazing playlists, but these commas are problematic. Had I known this ahead of time I would have made "Monday, Monday" as "Monday Monday" and not included commas, but it's too late for that.
Any suggestions? -
How can I add a new section to the beginning of a song project?
I've been trying GarageBand on my new iPad 3 as a practice aid. I laid down some guitar cords, then dupped some sections until I got a whole 64 bar song. Now, how the heck do I add a couple of intro bars? If I try to add a new two bar section, it always stays stuck at the song end. If I stretch section 1 by a couple bars, it adds the bars at the end of section 1, repeating the last cords, not very useful.
If you open the section menu there is a tool consisting of three parallel lines. Tap this to reorder the sections.

How can I, or can I export my songs on my iPod back to my computer?
The songs on my iPod Video 5th Gen now, were at one time on my computer, but have since been erased. Why can't I export the songs from my iPod back on to my computer? I have this same problem with my other devices (iPad 3rd Gen and iPod Nano 6th Gen). I am really frustrated now, because it seems as if I have to start all over again. This will be a royal pain in the butt! I don't understand why Apple makes this so hard and impossible to do this. Please help, anybody!!See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

These were all songs I had ripped from old CDs, lot of which, I no longer have. I can't remember that artists' names for all these songs. They are all "oldies" from the fifties and I just accidentally changed the artist for all them to Fats Domino. I'd had them all highlighted because I had done a batch change of their genre to Oldies. I couldn't tell that they were all still highlighted after that change because I could only see two of the songs at the time that I changed the artist name. Is there any possible way to undo this? All the tracks are still highlighted from the naming operation. I can't search for the artists' names online because I didn't purchase them from iTunes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I found one other way to do it. I just deleted them all out of my iTunes library. Now I can re-import them from Window's My Music file with the original artists' names intact.
Thanks for your help, Matt!

Retrieving Unicode characters with MS Query
Hi. I am using MS Query to retrieve data into Excel from an Oracle database. The data contains several different characters (such as degree and diameter symbols) which are stored as Unicode, but the query returns the same character for all of them.
