Exporting a song from itunes to Windows Movie Maker

Can anyone answer this question for me? I am very frustrated with this issue. I had a lot of family members give me itunes gift cards for Christmas so that I could purchase appropriate songs for slideshows that I make for grandchildren and other family members. I cannot get any of the songs into my slideshows as it says that they are mp4's. Someone told me that they have to be mp3's and then someone told me that I could convert them to mp3s within itunes and export them to my slideshows. I am not selling the slideshows, only doing this as a hobby and am now upset that I spent so much time and money on songs I cannot use. Is this true, I can never use them in my slideshows? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Depends what they are. If you purchased .m4p files, be aware that they contain Apple-proprietary DRM "protection" that prevents their use in non-Apple programs. If you purchased .m4a files, you can use iTunes to convert them to MP3.
For future reference, since you plan to use your music for multiple purposes, the most compatible format, by far, is MP3. Make sure that all music you purchase or rip is in MP3 format.

To check, right-click on the song and select Get info. In the Summary tab, what is it saying next to "Kind"?

  • Import songs from iTunes into  Windows Movie Maker

I have found it difficult to use my songs in any other application. I'm creating videos using Windows Movie Maker (Vista) and when I go to import the songs aren't showing up in the iTunes Music folder. I also downloaded the files into an external drive. When I opened the external drive separate the songs were there. When I was in Windows Movie Maker and went to import the files weren't there. Any suggestions on how to use songs from iTunes. I feel as though I've purchased them and can't use them anywhere else other than on my iPod and computer.

If they are protected files, that's correct. You can only use them on iPods, authorized computers and Apple TVs.

  • Can I transfer/copy songs from itunes to Windows Movie Maker?

I am designing a slide show for my daughter's wedding.  If I buy songs through itunes, can I copy/move them to Windows Movie Maker for the slide show.
    I appreciate your input/guidance.

With the iPod connected to your PC and selected on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (if you have iTunes 11 on your PC then you can enable the sidbar via control-S), you should be able to use the Music tab on the right-hand side of iTunes to select which of your music to sync to it e.g. which albums, artists, playlists etc : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1351

im trying to import The Prestige trailer into Windows Movie Maker so that i can have it set into the whole program. is it possible to import a trailer from iTunes into another program? i tried to make it able to open with movie maker, but it still isn't working.

WMP does not fully support MPEG, you'll have to convert it to a format supported by this program.

  • Burning Videos from iPhone/iTunes with Windows Movie Maker?????

How can I burn videos that I take on my 3GS iPhone and than sync to my PC/iTunes with Windows Movie Maker? When I attempt to load or drag the video file into movie maker it give me an error message due to the file type is not supported. Any suggestions or points in the right direction would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

This is because iTunes Store purchases and in a protected file format, so you won't be able to directly convert them from the protected file into something that Windows movie maker could read.
As the previous poster said, you can try burning the files to a CD, then importing the CD again. I think that ought to work.

  • ITunes On Windows Movie Maker

Hi, I am very unhappy due to the fact that i cannot import songs that I have rightly purchased from iTunes Music store. Does anybody have any answers that will allow me to be able to use iTunes purchased music on Microsoft Windows Movie Maker????
    Please help
    Simon

Burn the song to CD (and you get your purchase backed up in the process) then rip the one you want to Mp3.
The songs you purchase from iTunes have copy protection on them. This is normal.

  • Transferring downloaded itune to windows movie maker

I am wanting to use a downloaded song for a DVD project I am making, but I get a message stating the song cannot be used because of it's format?!? I am not a computer genius, so I am wondering if there is a way to use a song that has been downloaded from itunes in projects such as Windows Movie Maker. Any thoughts?

Find the song file you want to use, make sure it is in a format that Windows Movie Maker can use, namely MP3 or WAV, and use it.

Sorry purchased content is only playable in iTunes and cannot be used with other programs. You are allowed to burn purchased content onto an audio CD, but thats about it.

windows movie maker doesn't recognize the type of files I downloaded from i-tunes. I tried to convert the files to wav with audacity, but audacity wouldn't recognize it either.

  • How do I export one song from iTunes to a .mp3 file?

Sorry for the newbie question. I want to create a single .mp3 file from one of the songs in my iTunes library. How do I do that?
    Thanks much.

You can use iTunes to convert any copy protection free songs in your library another format. When you convert a song in iTunes it will be converted to the format that you have set to import your CDs in. Converting creates a second copy of the song in the format you have chosen which gives you the opportunity to either keep or delete the original. If you are using iTunes 8 go to iTunes>Preferences>General and click on Import Settings,, Change your Import format to MP3 Encoder for example. Go back to your library and highlight the songs you want to convert and go to the Advanced menu at the top of your iTunes window and choose "Create MP3 version": iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format
Click on the MP3 version you've created in iTunes to highlight it and drag it to your desktop to create a copy if you want to use it in another program or put it in another folder.

  • ITunes for Windows Movie Maker

I am attempting to create a file/movie that has pictures and I want to add audio, using songs from i-Tunes. Is this possible?, if so how, as I attempted to import using movie maker, but the iTunes file format mp4 is not a supported file.

You cannot convert a .mp4 into an MP3. However, you can use iTunes to burn a .mp4 to an audio CD, which can be used like any audio CD.
MP3s are readily available for purchase at various online stores, such as the amazon.com MP3 Download Store.

  • Itunes to windows movie maker

    Hi:
I just signed up for itunes account. I have purchased two songs. I want to transfer these songs to my movie maker. I have tried for hours to figure this out. I am trying to do a retirement slideshow for my sister. I need help.
Please someone help me. I have called so many people but nobody seems to know.
    thanks.

What omitfor said is correct. The "Protected AAC Audio" files will only work with iTunes, and your iPod, on an authorized computer.
However, the new "Purchased AAC Audio" a DRM free file that now iTunes just a few days ago I believe made standard, lets you play them anywhere. You might be able to upgrade many of your purchased songs to DRM free, for 30% the original price as an upgrade fee. You can do this from "Upgrade my Library" in the iTunes Store.
