Exporting after effects files to Final cut pro

Hello, I'm trying to export some simple AE quicktime movies for use in the 'Final cut pro' application.I'm using AE CS5.5 on Mac OSX and my colleague is using version 5.1.4 of Final cut pro on Mac OSX. My movies arent rendering very well in FCP (my colleague tells me that there is loss of quality). What format should I render my movies as in  the 'Output Module settings' box? And what 'video Codec' should I select from the 'Format options' box in the 'Output Module settings' box? I'm guessing that getting this correct is the issue...and I cant seem to get the right setting!
Please help! Its driving me mad!
Many thanks in advance.

I've got a different opinion about 422. I find even 422LT it is completely adequate and satisfactory for 90% of the work I do with my partner. However, we mostly use ProRes4444 when exchanging movie files, even if we dont' need the alpha, simply because it's a good standard that we can always use whether we're coming out of Motion or After Effects or FCP.
If your movie looks good to you coming out of AE, but your editor says it is not rendering well in FCP, he's probably got something set improperly in FCP for handling the file you've given him or you are giving him an incorrect frame size or frame rate. Your output settings should match his timeline's base codec, almost exactly. But you must consider his need for an aplha chanel, color space, frame rate, scalability and other factors.

The *project* is not in the event library; it is in the project library...
Please post screenshots of what you see in the event browser and project browser in FCP X; and also the Finder structure of your project and events folders.

  • Opening MPG files in Final Cut Pro?

Am I correct in saying that you cannot open MPG files in Final Cut Pro? We have Studio 2 and Studio 3.
From my previous experiences, we have always had to transcode to an MOV in Squeeze or some other program. I guess Compressor would do it too.
We have a client that has 20 hours of footage in MPEG. Yes, I said 20 HOURS! It's low-res, but if my thoughts are correct, we'll have to transcode all of it. I don't know what exact flavor of mpeg the source is in, but regardless...that should take a **** of a lot of time. We only have a quad core with 6 gigs of RAM.
Any thoughts? Would really appreciate it.

Which flavor of MPG are you referring to?
    ----- MPEG1?
As recommended above, Premiere Pro will allow you to import and edit MPEG1. Adobe makes a 30 day trial version available if you don't have it already with one of their bundles (or maybe it's time to get the Production Bundle and work After Effects and Photoshop into your workflow?)
You could also find a utility that demultiplexes MPEG1; however, you'd probably want to convert it to Photo-JPEG at something close to 320x240 in frame size. You'll have to create a custom Easy Setup and/or Sequence setting. You could start with OfflineRT NTSC and change the compression amount from 35% to 100%.
If you're not going the Premiere route, search Google for "How To Demux/transcode/convert Mpg on Mac" and some options will come back.
Also, if you have Roxio Toast, it might be able to do the conversion for you.
But, with all that said, the only time I use Premiere Pro is when I have to cut MPEG1.
MPEG1 is meant for viewing video on a computer and/or devices that support MPEG1 at "VHS" quality. Or, simply put, this is almost the worst possible source video you could be given. (I'd put Photo-JPEG video streams from early point and shoot still cameras just below it. But then again, those would be easier to try to edit at first only to have the picture completely break apart when you try to export it). Two decades ago, MPEG1 was awesome, but even then you encoded it from an edited master that was on something better than VHS.
If you can find some hardware that will play MPEG1 out via S-Video, it's probably worth patching that to a DV media converter or DV camcorder and pass that through to FCP at DV-NTSC settings.
    ----- MPEG2?
The MPEG2 QuickTime component should already be installed via Final Cut Studio, allowing you to open MPEG2 streams directly into FCP; however, you'll probably be better off batch converting from MPEG2 to DV-NTSC and then cutting at the DV-NTSC easy setup.
----- HDV (MPEG2 codec for picture and MPEG1 Layer 2 codec for sound)?
I'd guess this isn't the type of MPEG you're talking about based on your post. Also, this is, of course, supported in both versions of the studio that you have.

  • How can you fix corrupt Project Files in Final Cut Pro X?

    Hello All,
I have reason to believe that one of my project files in Final Cut Pro X is corrupt.
How may I begin to resolve this issue?  Is there a third party software someone could recommend, like Digital Rebellion (if they have software for FCP X, I'm not sure) that may improve, if not hopefully solve this issue?
    Many thanks!!
    Molly

    Had a similar problem.
    Follow it here:
    http://www.fcp.co/forum/4-final-cut-pro-x-fcpx/11076-freeze-during-export
among other steps taken I used Corrupt Clip Finder to isolate/remove the culprit and all was OK after that
no idea how/why the file ( which I''d been using over 5 previous versions) became corrupted

  • Every time I import an .fcpxml file into Final Cut Pro X, the timeline doesn't get imported

So I had exported an .fcpxml file from one machine, which i had to format. So, after formatting the machine, each time I import the .fcpxml file into Final Cut Pro X, The timeline remains empty

Use MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5 (free software) to convert the media to something like ProRes 422, then import into FCP X.
MPEG Streamclip can cope with many codecs.

  • Will adobe after affects work with final cut pro x

Will adobe after affects work with final cut pro x?

You can't work with the files natively, if that's what you mean - you can't drop a .aep file into FCP X, or vice-versa.  You can do this to some extent using Premiere Pro and After Effects, but only if you get them together in the Production Premium collection.
Like Tom said, though, you can prep stuff in either direction and work with both applications without a problem.

  • How to import MXF files to Final Cut Pro with smooth editing

Summary: Follow this tutorial to learn how to import and edit MXF files in Final Cut Pro by converting MTS to FCP native format.
If you have a Panasonic P2, Canon XF or Sony XDCAM series camcorder,
you may be familiar with Material eXchange Format (MXF). Though MXF is a
great video format to record high-definition videos, it is not easy to
use in that they are not natively supported by most NLE systems like
Final Cut Pro. In order to import MXF to FCP for editing, the easy workaround is to transcode MXF files to FCP compatible video formats.
Along with some help from a top MXF Converter, it can be done. To
help those who wanna edit MXF files in FCP without problems, here I
share with you a simple guide on how to convert MXF files to edit in
Final Cut Pro 6/7 or FCP X.
First of all, downloading the App- Brorsoft MXF Converter for Mac
Overall, the program is a professional yet easy-to-use MXF Converter
on Mac (Mavericks included) which can not only convert XF100, Canon
C300, XF105 and XF305, Panasonic P2 recorded MXF files, but also provide
simple video editing functions for you. The MXF to FCP Converter not
only can convert MXF to ProRes for FCP, but also can transcode MXF
videos for editing in Avid MC, Adobe Premiere Pro, iMovie, FCE, etc.
Just download it and follow the tutorial below to get the work done.
Transcoding (P2) MXF files to ProRes for Final Cut Pro 6/7/X
    1. Import MXF files to the converter
Launch the best MXF to FCP Converter, and then click the “add files” button to browse and import MXF videos from your camcorder or hard drive.
    2. Select FCP editable format
Click the Format bar, and move mouse cursor to choose “Final Cut Pro > Apple ProRes 422 (*.mov)” as output format.
    Tips:
    a. Settings- click to set video
    resolution(1920×1080/1440×1080/1280×720/720×480), bitrate (from 1Mbps to
    20Mbps), frame rate (24p/30p)
    b. Editor (next to “Add” icon)- click to set deinterlace, trim, crop, add effect, attach subtitles, etc
    3. Start transcoding MXF video to FCP
Click “Convert” button to start converting MXF files to Apple ProRes
MOV for FCP 6/7/X under Mac OS. Once the MXF to ProRes 422 conversion
is done, you can transfer MXF footage into Final Cut Pro (X) for editing
    smoothly on Mac with ease.

  • How do I open my Final Cut Express 4.0 files in Final Cut Pro 10.1.3?

    Hello,
I used Final Cut Pro when I was in college and when I graduated in 2010, I bought Final Cut Express 4.0. I recently bought Final Cut Pro 10.1.3 two days ago and I am having trouble opening up my old Final Cut Express 4.0 files. When I do go to open up these files they only open up with Final Cut Express and I always get the message: file's format is too new for this version of the application.
How do I open these Final Cut Express 4.0 files in Final Cut Pro 10.1.3?
    Thank you!
    Anna

TThere is no way to go directly from FCE to FCPX. If you know somehow who has FCP7, they can open the FCE projects and export XML files. These can be converted to FCPX XML format using the 7toX utility.

  • Can not import MXF files into Final Cut Pro

I am full of anger and frustration!!! I purchased final cut pro only to find out that it WILL NOT import MXF files. How insane is that? ADOBE - NO PROBLEM. Then I had to go back to YOUR STORE and buy two different file converter applications before I found one that worked. Now FINAL CUT PRO will only import the audio segment of converted files after converting to PRORES in PAVTUBE. Are you BUCKING kidding me? This work flow BLOWS. Why the FELL does this have to be sooooo hard!  I am gone to creative cow and other forums to try to find out why I am sooo stupid that I can't get this simple process sorted out. YOU BUCKING MONEY MACHINE! How many more aps will I have to buy before I can edit CANON XF100 files in Final Cut Pro. BUCK politics! You should make your software with plugins that would allow you to edit without this kind of added step. JUST LIKE ADOBE. I want refunds for my final cut pro purchase. This is BUCKING rediculous. What a waste of time!

Good thing I still have an iMac on Snow Leopard with FCP7 where I can import these files.  I was hoping to upgrade that system next month when the new iMac comes out
There is definite upside to dragging one's feet on upgrades until necessary and this is a prime example. On a desktop running 10.6, and the XF Utility, FCP 7 L&T works reliably. And like you, that's my workflow for FCPX projects. Running 10,7 on a laptop, the EOS plug-in works well for FCPX imports – no workarounds needed. When I finally get around to updating, I will partition the HD, with one SL partition and the other partition with a later OS. Of course this strategy will work only as long as my hardware holds up.

  • When exporting as a quicktime movie, final cut pro crashes!

When exporting as a quicktime movie, final cut pro crashes about 3/4ths the way through the 12 hour process. I'm saving it to a La Cie 500 GB disc by fire wire. It's worked before but after I converted one SD sequence (that was shot in HD)to a HD sequence, I haven't been able to export it and it won't play straight at anything bigger than 25% size. Please if you have any advice I won't forget it. I'm trying to export as ProHD 1060i.

I converted one SD sequence (that was shot in HD)to a HD sequence
How, exactly? And what were the settings of your new HD sequence? DVCPRO HD 1080 60i?

  • I can't open a Final Cut Pro 6 file in Final Cut Pro 10.  Please help!

I am a long time user of Final Cut Pro 6.  I finished a video for a client but my computer was giving me issues because it's older and needs cleaned off so it is slow and it's affecting the video.  I downloaded Final Cut Pro 10 trial on my laptop and tried opening the file in Final Cut Pro 10. No go.  I thought that it would open because usually it isn't a problem when trying to open older files in newer programs.  I understand, however, that Final Cut Pro 10 has been re-writted so it presents a problem.  Can anyone please help me with this?
    Thanks

    Russ has answered your question.
    What follows constitutes bully pulpitism.
Apple has a long history of abandoning legacy software and hardware. I would be VERY careful before I bought into the the next iteration of Apple software. The real conundrum is Adobe seems bent on extracting blood from stones with its new subscription model so it becomes a choice of lessor evils. Do you pick "the next great thing" (whatever that means) from a company that you know will cut you off at the kness or do you pick something that has a high degree of stability but will bleed you over the long run?
    Not an easy choice.

There have been a lot of recent reports of difficulties sharing to DVD, but haven't been hearing about unreadable disks. Posibly there was an encoding error. Or it could have been bad media (blank disk).
Does it play in your Mac?
What brand of disks are you using?

  • My files from final cut pro trial aren't transferring to final cut pro x - how do I fix this?

I had been making a video in the final cut pro trial and didn't realize my trial was going to run out as soon as it did that day.
