Exporting an events file to a CD looses sequence
I have an event file of several hundred photos of a new puppy and his first five months. I selected, sized and exported all photos (sequenced by date in the event folder) onto a CD. Before burning, I spot checked the exported photos. They were completely out of sequence and therefore the 'story' is completely fractured and useless for my projects. This is an example of many needs I have to export files in a date/time sequence to a CD...my art teaching, for example, which I publish in step by step visuals. What am I NOT DOING? I'd like to clean out Iphoto and store things on CDs in the exact order I shot each photo...something I can select if I wish to print a dated contact sheet or PDF file.

What you've missed is the fact that the Finder always lists files in alpha-numeric order, which is why your iPhoto order is not preserved in the export folder. There are a couple of ways to manipulate the filenames of your exports to preserve your iPhoto order. You could re-title the photos, beginning each title with a number. Be sure to start with 001, 002, 003,... since you have more than 99 photos. Then in the export dialog choose "use title" as the filename for the exports. Another method is to place all the photos into an Album. Sort the album as you wish. In the export dialog, choose "use album name" as the filename for the exports. They will all bear the name of your album plus a number, and your album sequence will be preserved. This method is quick and easy. The drawback is that if your titles were descriptive, your exports lack that information.
I'd like to clean out Iphoto and store things on CDs in the exact order I shot each photo...
If you'll be using iPhoto to read your CDs in the future, then you can burn selected Events or Albums from inside iPhoto. When you load the CD, it will appear in the iPhoto Source Pane. All of your iPhoto database information, including sequence, will be retained.

Deep iMovie question:
I accidentally deleted various EVENT files from my iMove EVENTS folder. Yes, they are really gone ... this is NOT a matter of restoring them from the trash.
The projects are still there ... I can still watch the projects as long as I am in iMovie ... but if I try to export the Project I get the MISSING MEDIA error message.
Logic tells me that if I can view the project ... the file has to be SOMEWHERE inside my computer ... else I couldn't be watching it ... right? I mean what am I watching if not some file somewhere which has moving pictures stored in it?
So HOW do I get to something I can export? What am I watching when I watch the project?
I have iMove 08 on iMac with OS 10.6.8
Normally works great for my simple needs ... except if you move or delete an event file ...
Can anyone out there help?

How do I export detached audio files as separate files, for Pro Tools processing?
My project is a live band performance. I have every song as a separate Event with associated audio. I have detachd all the audio from all the video Events. I now want to Export the audio files to Pro Tools for editing, then Import the edited audio back into FCP X and snap the edited audio to the associated video Events.
My problem is this: FCP X keeps exporting the audio as a single large WAV file, rather than as separate WAV files. In fact, the video events are separate, and so the audio associated with the video Events are separate.
I first renamed the Role of every audio file as "Music", then did a Share --> Export Media of all "Music" audio Roles. After exporting, I found it was one large WAV file, rather than separate files of different sizes.
As a 2nd try, I created Sub-Roles for each audio clip, and named each one with a distinct Sub-Role name. I then Exported all these Sub-Roles (yes, tedious). The result was that every exported WAV file was the same size, the same as the file size in my first try. The only audio that could be heard in each file was the audio in that particular song, but FCP X still created the very large file with silence in all the rest of the file. Since the file lengths don't match the original audio fil lengths, there will be a problem when I Import the edited files back into FCP X and want to Snap them into place.
Question:
How can I export the individual detached audio clips as separate files, the length of each file equaling the length of the original audio file in FCP X?
Do I need to separate the detached audio into separate Layers visually in the Project Timeline, so they are not touching? Or does this matter?

You need to explore Compound Clips. This workflow may or may not be of help.
Select an Event with clips in it and press Option+G to make a (blank) compound clip.
Select the Event Browser, create a new Event and call it 'Effects'.
Drag the Compound Clip into this Event.
Right-click the clip and select 'Open in Timeline'.
Select the timeline and press Option+W. This will add a Gap Clip to the timeline.
Select the gap clip and press Ctrl+D then type in the duration you want the clip to be.
Now open a project and select and copy one of the clips with effects etc.
Open the Compound Clip in the Timeline again, select the gap clip and press Option+Cmd+V to paste the effects into your Compound Clip.
This clip is now saved in your Browser and will remain there for you to copy and then paste the effects into any clip in any project.
It's a bit clunky, but it works - and once you learn about Compound Clips, you can work wonders with them. As an example, if you want to add more effects without overwriting the effects in the Compound Clip, simply make the Compound Clip into a Compound Clip (again) and add the effects. They will be added to the original effects.

How to restrict users from printing documents and exporting to local file

I have two questions.
1. How can I restrict users from printing a document? i.e. billdoc? I would like to know if I could block it though authorization. If yes, what auth obj to use?
2. How to restrict certain users from exporting to local file? the System> List>Save-->Local File. I have tried restricting it using auth object S_GUI but it seems it is only applicable to older versions of SAP. im on ecc6.

Check this:
Create your own gui status and attach it to the list in the event START-OF-SELECTION.
In the menu painter extra -> adjust template.
Make it a list status and you will see all the standard list options appear including list->download
Deactivate the ones you don't want.
If you just want to prevent users from downloading the list you can achieve this with authorization object S_GUI, activity 61. Menu option will still be there though.
Please note that if you remove authorisation for S_GUI activity 61 then all downloads will not be possible.
If you just want to disable downloads only for a particular report, you can try this test program:

IPhoto export of events structure
I have been trying to export my current iPhoto structure (events, places, faces, etc...) from my laptop to my iMac but every action I tried just separate all the pictures out of the evenet. and when I try to import back it just add all the pictures randomly without structure and also congest my photo stream adding all of them there...it's very messy. does anyone have any suggestion on a proper procedure to follow to export the event structure from iPhoto on 1 mac to iPhoto in another mac?
I have already read most of the posts and nothing worked properly.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
What do you mean by "Sync".
The general term means when two Libraries (A and B) are compared and files in Library A are copied to Library B, while files in Library B are also copied to Library A so that both Libraries are identical.
This is bi-directional copying and you cannot do this automatically with iPhoto. No Syncing software is capable of parsing the iPhoto Library in this manner. One or both of your Libraries will be damaged if you try this.
You can have uni-directional copying - files in Library A are copied to Library B - this is essentially backing up. Obviously you can also copy from Library B to Library A.
The nearest you can get to syncing is to use iPhoto Library Manager to move files/Albums/Events plus associated metadata between Libraries. This process cannot be automated. -
Export some Events - Preserve Events for Import to PC?
I want to be able to export multiple Events, to a file that can then be imported to a PC, but I want the import to create the same Events on the PC's iPhoto
that were exported from my iMac.
I tested this, but during export all traces of separate Events seem to be lost, and photos are just all thrown together into the same folder.
Is there any way to control this, so my importer does not have to spend hours re-creating my Events in their iPhoto?

Early on some hardware configurations had problems - and as with any upgrade a new version may react differently to corruptiongs in the data - never upgrade "to solve a problem", upgrading does not solve old problems and often makes them worse
It is not a bad idea to Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - and rebuild your iPhoto library before upgrading - this should eliminate issues and gives you a backup to go back to if problems occure
As to reviews - I have NEVER seen any new software that did not get lots of negative comments and negative reviews - good news does not sell newspapers

Modding the Export Layers to Files script to preserve .jpg quality
Please forgive me if I am posting this incorrectly, but as the thread I initially replied to is marked as Answered I started to wonder whether my question would be seen or not so I started this new thread. My original question is located in the thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/2795719#2795719 because Kari was having a similar issue to mine, but with a different file format. My original text:
I am having a similar issue, except that I need to save each layer as a .jpg, and the Export Layers to Files script is compressing the images in some fashion so that a previously seamlessly tiling layer now has a border that ruins the tile. If I save each layer individually using either the Save As command or Save for Web and Devices with the proper settings (Maximum Quality, Progressive, and Baseline Standard), the resulting images don't acquire this border, so I feel pretty certain it is something in the script that is messing up (changing the compression of) the layers, but I honestly don't know what. I have tried modifiying the jpeg portion of the script this way, hoping to prevent it from deviating from the usual Save As options:

I don't see what line might control whether the image is saved as progressive or not, nor anything to affect the text setting "Maximum" that I use when I successfully save each layer individually.
I am a complete novice at scripting, so please excuse/explain the obvious mistakes I may be making here.
I have since installed the script listener plug in and isolated a bit of script for saving the intended way, and hope to insert this snippet into the Export Layers as Files script, but I can tell that some of the lines are extraneous (like where it points to the file path I took), but I don't know what is safe to trim out. I sincerely appreciate any assistance with this!Here is the script that uses scriptlistner to do the jpeg save. Note I changed the name by adding '_mod' to the end to remind you that it has been edited. You can remove the origianl version by moving the file to another folder outside the scripts folder or by adding ~ at the start of the filename.
I recommend saving this as Export Layers to Files_mod.jsx. If this doesn't work for you we can try using the scriptlistener saveForWeb.

How do I export an event in iMovie so it can play DVD player? I am trying to export to a DVD in DVD format without any success an event from iMovies. I was only able to get it to export to my desktop as a .m4v file. The movie of my daughter I need to export to DVD so it can be sent as a DVD to people and played on a DVD player. Any assistance you can provide would be helpful.
When you preview the image from the save for web dialog box, it will open your browser to see the image. It also will have the necessary html code needed for the links to work. Just copy that html code and add it to your email code with the image.

Photoshop Script: Export Layer To File

I have set up an action to use "Export Layer To Files" to save out multipile jpg, and I have noticed the file compression is allot larger compared to the, Save for web option. Is there anyway I can use Export Layer To Files in an action, but then use the Save for web option to get better compression for the final file export?The "Export Layer To Files" script seems to be a plugin script therefore it records the setting use in it dialog into an action step when recorded into an action. Thus when the action is played the "Export Layer To Files" script step will bypass displaying its "Export Layer To Files" dialog and use the setting it recorded into your action step. So you must have selected save jpeg and set a high quality jpeg setting in its dialog when you recorded the action. If you re-record the action step and uncheck include ICC profile and set a low jpeg quality setting. The jpeg files saved will be smaller in the future. The Jpeg quality setting influences how compression is done. Low quality setting loose more image quality than high settings but the output file size is smaller with lower values. Save for web you can reduce output size also by saving lower quality image additionally you can also strip all image meta-data and reduce the image size using interpolation.

Capture export media event in Adobe Premiere
We're developing a html5 Adobe Premiere Extension. The extension imports files to the editor from our archive. The files have two versions. Hi-res and Low-res. We import the low-res versions to the editor. We want to change the path of the file from low-res to hi-res when the user finishes his job and exports the media (File->Export->Media). Is there a way to capture the export event and change the file paths?

If you are using Mac, press Apple + I to get the information. It show a table. There is a section call Open with. Change the file with pdf icon to open with indesign. If using PC, just click on the second button on the mouse and open with Indesign.

Can't export an EPS file from Photoshop CS5 and open in Illustrator CS5.
I'm on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
I am making DVD covers for print. The barcodes for the DVD covers have to be done in Illustrator. But the original designs are done in photoshop including the text. For years this hasn't been a problem. Right before adding the barcodes I create an EPS file from photoshop, open that file in Illustrator and all my text is automatically coverted to perfect crisp clean vectors, viola! I add the barcodes and export the PDF for the printers.
But now I can't open my EPS files in Illustrator CS5 even though I'm exporting them the same way I always have from Photoshop CS5. Illustrator says... "The operation cannot complete because of an unknown error." --> Note it does not give an error number after this warning like I see it does for so many other people.
I have been trying to fix this for over 10 HOURS spanning 2 days! I'm infuriated I can't get help from Adobe on this and have read all the forums and don't see my problem listed anywhere.
I've tried:
- Deleting the .plist file and the Settings folder & resetting my permissions
- Uninstalling and Reinstalling Illustrator
- Turning off all other applications
- Creating more disk space on my hard drive (even though I have 200gb available)
- Restarting the computer
- Disabling my Font book and still I can't open the EPS file
I thought maybe it's possible it's the font I'm using Fontesque OT so I even tried converting text to objects prior to exporting the EPS file from photoshop to illustrator and turning off my font book, but still it won't open. And if I open the PSD directly in Illustrator, text comes out a bit fuzzy in the PDF I export.
If anyone can provide any solutions I would be so grateful! I'm at my wits end here, this should have taken under an hour to do and now it's ruining my entire weekend. I'm completely panicked because I was suppose to have these to my client over the weekend so they could turn them in for Print frist thing on Monday morning and of course Adobe provides no chat support or phone support after 7pm on weekday or on the weekend which is when this all started.I never even thought of reinstalling photoshop, but I think this was a font issue. I'd never saved an EPS with Fontesque OT Regular enabled, only Fontesque OT Bold. Somehow I think the font was causing the problem because ridding the font from the equation allowed me to open the EPS file.
After 12 HOURS of trying different things I found a WORK AROUND...
I had to:
- Select the Text in Photoshop (with Fontesque OT enabled) --> Select Create Work Path --> Covert to Shape on each of the text items
- Save EPS file out of Photoshop
- Disable Fontesque OT font in Font Book
- Then open EPS in Illustrator add in my Barcodes and export the PDF
(the barcodes have to be added in Illustrator because they need to be pure 100% black with no CMYK color in them. You can't save them out of Photoshop that way, only Illustrator, otherwise I would have made my pdf straight out of photoshop like any other normal human
This work around is the only way I could get the EPS files to open in Illustrator and still have the text remain super crisp like a vector.
NOTE to others in the future about crisp text from Photoshop to Illustrator:
- Simply "converting to shape" did not preserve the vector. You have to Select Create Work Path --> then Covert to Shape on each of the text items (with the font enabled) for this to work and preserve the crispness of the text. Even creating "smart object" did not truly preserve my vectors or the text crispness in the EPS file once I imported it into Illustrator.
DrStrik9 thank you SO MUCH for trying to help me. You did give me ideas that helped me figure out the workaround and also helped me feel not so alone as I struggled through this. I'm going to follow up with your other suggestions about reinstalling photoshop and also checking my RAM, etc. But I just want to that you so so so SOOOO much for all your time and consideration in this matter. I hope you have a wonderful amazing week ahead and that someone does something very nice and thoughtful for you too -
How do I export a .dwg file so the Search/Find function can be used on it?
I have some .dwg files that my co-worker exported to PDF. It is crucial for me to have the ability to use the search or "Find" function in Reader. There are 11 different .dwg files exported into an 11 page PDF, but some of the were exported with different properties. I can search on 4 of them, but the other 7 are unsearchable. I believe my co-worker user Autodesk TrueView to export the .dwg files to PDF. So my question is what program I should use (I believe that TrueView is capable of what I am trying to do, but I'm not sure) and how should I set up the the settings before I export it to PDF. Thanks.
You need to contact Autodesk, almost no one here is likely to be familiar with what Autodesk can or cannot do.

I am on the job of 'managing my video works'...trying to get the events and projects in order. In this matter I have been coming across 'problems' which I have been able to surmount. But in the present case I seem to have come to the 'end of the road' and would like to know how to proceed.
The event of one particular problem is showing an alert icon as the one shown in the HELP pages of FCPX:
When I tried to relink the files, I got this pop up stating that files were incompatible and asked to click on a single file to know the reason of incompatiblity:
Upon selecting a single missing file, I found that there was this problem:
The project appears normal in the project library and the timeline as well. The project properties in the inspector window also seem to be normal...no alerts of missing events. Playback also is normal. The project in the project library sports no alert icon. I did a 'relink project files' and was able to do so. When I clicked upon reorganize project media, I was informed that all the media are right on the spot [location].
I finally also clicked reorganize event files and got this feedback:
May I be informed how I can get rid of this alert icon? What are the dangers, if any, if the alert icon cannot be removed? Can I ignore this alert?

I had upgraded to version 8 of FCPX recently and instead of updating all the events and projects in a drive at once, I had, as a precautionary measure, used event manager to 'feed' and update with only one project and its associated event/s at a time. When I clicked all the prjects and events of the drive in question, the alert icon disappeared.
However, I am still getting this, what Tom has opined, a display problem, even in some events and not merely projects:
Well, if this is indeed a 'display problem' need I to call up the service center or do I accept it with an air of resignation? FYI this appearance of clips and projects are not for all projects and events I have but only for some of them.
