Exporting an image sequence - more that 5 digits in filename

I am trying to export a dpx sequence from AE CS6 to insert into a much larger sequence.  I see where I can adjust the starting frame number for my exported sequence, but it seems to be limiting me to 5 digits and the sequence I am trying to drop this piece into has a 7 digit number.  Is it possible to change this in After Effects so I can export with a 7 digit number?

It's possible to do this, yes, but it's not wholly intuitive.
First, unfortunately the Starting Number value in the Output Module Settings dialog is locked to a max of 5 digits. Increasing the limit is a good feature request. Please submit it:
http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
Now for the good part: you can get the output you want by setting your comp's start frame number. You may also need to adjust the Output Name to accomodate leading zeroes in your target frame numbers.
To change your comp start frame number:
Open the comp.
Choose Composition menu > Composition Settings.
In the Start Frame field, enter the desired value for the first frame of your comp.
This field will display a timecode value by default. Since you may be thinking in integer frame numbers, it may help to change the display units to frames. Do this by choosing File > Project Settings and change the Time Display Style to Frames, then follow the above steps to set the start frame value.
If you're not exporting your entire comp, but just the work area, make sure to adjust your Start Frame value accordingly.
As long as the starting frame number contains the same number of digits as your desired output, this should work for you.
If the portion of the sequence that you wish to export will include leading zeroes, you'll need to adjust the number of digits that AE writes:
In the Render Queue, click the hot text for the Output To field.
The default file name will display something like CompName_[#####].dpx.
Add # symbols as desired. If you want seven digits, use [#######].
If you need to do this frequently, you can create a template for the output name. See:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/aftereffects/cs/using/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103a4f2dff7-79f4 a.html#WS3878526689cb91655866c1103a4f2dff7-79e2a
Following the above steps, your output name will include the number of digits you need.

  • Exporting PNG Image Sequence in Compressor?

    Hi everyone!
Can anyone help? Any Compressor pro's out there?
I can successfully export sequences via Final Cut Pro using Quicktime conversion as .PNG Image Sequences retaining the alpha channel (millions+). However in Compressor the Image Sequence settings seem to ONLY support targa or tiff, IS there a way to export the image sequence using compressor as a alpha channel PNG!
You can export the sequence as a .mov with the png codec.. but I must have it as the image sequence!
    Any ideas anyone?

Sorry, but I have not been able to find an option for exporting image sequences with Alpha channel in Compressor either. I submitted a bug report about this a few months ago.
Why do you need to use Compressor? If it is for deinterlacing or resizing, you could export from FCP using Compressor, and choose to export a QuickTime movie using the Animation codec at 100%. After that, you can export your Animation file to a PNG image sequence using QuickTime Pro.
It is the only workaround I can think of at the moment.
I would recommend submitting a bug report: http://www.apple.com/feedback/compressor.html

  • Exporting Still Image Sequence in Quicktime 10?

I've been spoiled by the feast of 'export as' options in every quicktime I've used before, especially exporting as a still image sequence.  Just got a new macbook pro (os 10.7) that came loaded with quicktime 10, and now there are virtually no options for exporting.  I also need to be able to import the still image sequence again back into quicktime.  Is it possible to run an older version of quicktime?  Or is there another way to do it in the new version?  OR is there some free program out there that will let me do the same thing?
    Thanks
    Nate

You can run the QT 7.6.6 Player Pro app under either Snow Leopard or Lion. Both QT 7 and QT X players can be installed simultaneously. The QT X.1 Player app does not have this feature. MPEG Streamclip will open a sequence of images but has a fixed frame rate unlike QT 7 Pro which offers user selectable frame rate options when opening image sequences.

  • Export to image sequence help required

In QT Pro this seems to work fine but when I look in the folder I have saved all the images, they are all the same! 6000 of the same frame...what I am doing wrong? I want to take an image sequence of each different frame from the movie

    Off topic:
You don't want to show your new bride more than a dozen (flattering) from the video as "still image" files. I've had two wives and have gone through the experience.
Another fact of QuickTime video to still image format is the image quality found in those exports. They will be sized the same as the current display size of your video (expand the window prior to export to get a larger dimension) but you will not be able to print out copies at more than postage stamp sizes.
Try an image sequence export using just a "selection" (you'll use the letter i and o keys to make one) and see if they export properly.

  • Best Way to Import/Export Still Image Sequence With FCP & Photoshop

I am working on a FCP project and need to fix a couple frames using photoshop.
What is the best method to export to Photoshop, import the image in photoshop, make changes, then export out of Photoshop and back into FCP?
It seems whenever I re-import back into FCP, FCP doesn't recognize that they are individual frames, and instead imports each frame as an individual image file lasting several seconds long. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Forum!
In FCP's preferences, set the Still Frame duration to 1 frame. Locate the clip on the Timeline, set an IN and OUT point and go to File->Export->Using QuickTime Conversion. In the Format menu, choose Image Sequence and in the Options menu, choose the file type (I recommend uncompressed TIFF). Next, create new folder for the image sequence and hit the Save button.
After completing the work in Photoshop, go back to your FCP project and go to File->Import->Folder and navigate to the folder containing the corrected images. Drag the entire folder from the Browser to the Timeline.
If for some reason the duration for each is longer than 1 frame, select all and right-click on one and choose Duration from the contextual menu. Change to 1 frame.

  • Export as image sequence - image size

When I export images using the export via Quicktime as image sequence. The size of the jpg Files is always 560x960. But the movie is in HD (720x1280).
Why is that? Where can I adjust this? Anyone an idea?

FCP doesn't work with any of this media in their native formats, which I suspect is the cause of your problems. The sequence settings won't match so you should make sure everything's rendered.
BTW do you really mean 720x1280? A tall thin sequence.

  • Want to Resize Images that are Exported as an Image Sequence

Recently started shooting HD. When I use "Image Sequence" to create a mass of video stills/frame grabs, the result is massive in size that takes up my whole monitor. I then use another program to shrink them down to 720 width and watermark them. I'm pretty sure I'm losing a lot of sharpness when I do this. I think if I could export directly from FCE at 720 it would look a lot better. Is there a way to export the "Image Sequence" in a size smaller than the original size of the video?
Failing that, anyone know a mac-compatible program that can do this with a 15 min video and make stills at 2 per second like FCE does, while resizing? Thank you!

    Thanks Michel!
But does what u r saying apply to Final Cut Express, which is what I have? I watched a vid on nesting in FCP on a HowTo tube and it looked very easy. You just select the sequence and then go to Sequence>Nest & then it allows to to pick a video size. But that exact function doesnt exist in FCE.
According to a post on a diff forum an expert said "There is no nest items function in FCE". But there are some references to nesting in the FCE manual but it doesnt say how to change the size of the video in the sequence.
So is there any way to export an "Image Sequence" or even a "Still Image" in FCE in a size smaller than the source video? If there isn't it'd be almost silly.
    Thanks to anyone who knows.

  • Images imported from QT exported image sequence have jagged edges

    Hi
I've come across something strange which I'd like to resolve.
I export an image sequence from QuickTime.
I then import this into Aperture.
But the images imported into Aperture now have jagged edges where there has been any movement in the original footage.
The images originally exported from QuickTime look absolutely fine when viewed with preview, they have the expected blurring on moving objects, but no jaggedness.
    Now, a bit more detail.
The footage I'm exporting from was shot by me and came from a Final Cut Pro edit.
The codec in the QT movie is Apple Intermediate Codec and this is interlaced.
The jagged edges on movement look to me like the problem of interlaced not being converted to progressive.
However the exported images from QuickTime don't display this when viewed in Preview, it is only when viewed in Aperture that the jagged edges become apparent.
I have tried exporting from QuickTime to jpg, png and psd, but the problem is identical no matter which format I use.
I really want to now use Aperture to improve these exported images, but with this jagged edge problem I can't.

    Hi JNorris--
Sounds like you need to apply the deinterlace filter (Effects tab: video filters: video: deinterlace) to the stills your exporting.
See if that makes a difference to start.

  • Exporting image sequence... naming protocol

When I'm exporting an image sequence I need the numbering to be to the thousands ( eg; Picture 0001.png, Picture 0002.png)
Does anyone know how I can get this to happen?
    Thanks!!

    That is very interesting Ann.
I tried it again, this time with PNG instead of Targa, and the first frame exported out of each one looked like these:
So if yours always starts with 6 digits, I wonder what setting we have different?

  • Changing Frame Padding On Image Sequence Exports, Media Encoder

    Hello Adobe World,
I am using dynamic link from After Effects to Media Encoder and I am trying to export an image sequence with a specific numbering system for input into software code. Is there any way to change the frame padding or change the numbering system for Image sequence exports?
We are trying to speed up our workflow by Batch rendering from AME. AE does let us set our frame numbering and gives us an option for creating sub-folders (it's surprising the AE is much more organized in it's export options that AME). We need to be able to render more than one thing at a time and need to keep working in AE while the files are rendering. I have not found a workable background rendering plug-in for CC14. We could use AME if there is a way to fix the Number system.  We are working on a PC Windows 8. I can provide more system specs if it is necessary.
Side note: in AE we can use [#] to set the numbering value and in AME it does not work.
    Thank you for your help!
Still looking for an answer on this.... it's been 2 months.... Adobe team? Anyone?

    Change it to this?

  • Final Cut Pro X Image Sequence Export missing frames per second option?

I am using the trial version of Final Cut Pro X.  I can export an image sequence but it will only allow me to do so at 30 frames per second -every single frame!
So a 10 min movie takes half an hour to export 20,000+ frames that no one on earth has time to look thru.
In my old Final Cut Express I was able to choose 1 or 2 frames per second, which was just right.
    What am I missing?
Do I need to buy Quicktime Pro or Compressor to allow me to export image sequences without exporting every frame?
Why would Apple even have an image sequence export if it only allows you to export every frame, or it that only in the trial version?
    Thank you

I found a free option for you, if you don't already have Compressor 4.
In FCPX create your movie. Then SHARE as a Master File.
Get MPEG Streamclip, which is a free app available here.
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Drag your Master File into MPEG Streamclip.
In MPEG Streamclip, select FILE/EXPORT TO OTHER FORMATS.
    In FORMAT: choose IMAGE SEQUENCE
In OPTIONS, choose your frame rate.

  • Problem with QT PRO image sequence export

I have quicktime pro. When I export a .avi file into a .bmp sequence, it will name the files like this: whatever0001.bmp, whatever0002.bmp, and so on until whatever8000.bmp, depending on how long the video is. The problem with this is, I need to use the image sequence combined with a WAV file in order to get a certain file format (please, don't ask me what it is). However, the encoder needs to files to be: whatever1.bmp, whatever2.bmp, whatever3.bmp, etc.
How can I get quicktime pro to export the image sequence .bmp pictures like that? And if it's not possible, can you please point me to some freeware that can (OS X prefered, but I can use windows ones).
    Thanks.

  • Exporting animated symbol to image sequence

    Hi guys!
I'm unable to export an animated symbol to image sequence properly because the symbol does not animate.
I created the tweens in multiple layers, then cut-pasted all layers to a new symbol. I did this so I could then just do some tween motions on the symbol.
The tweening is perfect, but when I export the image sequence, the images do not animate the way it does on the Flash player. All I get is an image sequence with the tweened symbol, but the symbol itself does not animate.
I'd really appreciate if you guys could give me a tip on how to get the symbol to animate when exporting the image sequence.
Alternatively, is there a way to motion-tween multiple layers simoultaneously? (Layers which are themselves tweened)
    Thank you guys!
Any additional info, I'll be checking regularly so I can provide as much description as possible to get this to work.

    Ok, I figured it out!
I changed the symbol type to "Graphic," and I was able to see the animation in the timeline. Easy!
Now I just exported the movie to png sequence, and bam! Magic!
If anyone has this problem, don't hesitate to ask me and I'll ellaborate on what I did.
    Thanks!

  • Converting 180 imported images in AE CC to image sequences that reside in same folder as stills.

I have 180 imported stills in a composition. I have corresponding image sequences that I want to convert each still to. The stills are named "x-00001.jpg", and the other parts of the image sequence are in the same directory. How do I get AE CC to make the leap to find the rest of each image sequence aside from manually using "Replace Footage" with each image to check the image sequence box?

Your workflow is flawed when you put your placeholder images and your image sequences in the same folder. Each image sequence should be in a separate folder and should be imported as an image sequence. The frame rate of the imported image sequences is set in Preferences before an image sequence is imported or changed with File>Interpret Footage.
If your placeholder is a still image and you have an image sequence in a different folder you can use the Replace Footage command and it will bring replace a still with an image sequence if you make sure to check the image sequence button before you press Open.
You can also convert your image sequences to Movies using QuickTime and easily wrap them in a .mov container. This eliminates the necessity of checking the image sequence box when replacing footage.
Writing a script to do this would require that you either pause the script to choose the folder with the image sequence or that you script every folder and the placeholder so it would be easier just to go through the composition and replace footage.
