Exporting an iPhoto library

Hi
A friend of mine has created an album in iPhoto and added titles and comments. She doesn't have iDVD and wants me to create a DVD with slideshows
showing the title and comments on each photo.
How can she export the album and send it to me retaining all the comment information?
I can remember seeing an option like 'export as iPhoto library' which I think would do the trick but I can't find it now that I need it.
I'm using the latest version of iPhoto/OS X etc.
Cheers
Alice

You can burn a CD within iPhoto that retains all comments and titles. Check iPhoto Help on your computer and the instructions are there. Have your friend burn a CD and it will show up in the Source column on the left of iPhoto when you insert it in your computer.

Go to Pictures folder and copy the library to the external drive. Then, open iPhoto holding Option key and select the library in your external disk. Finally, delete the library on Pictures

How do I export my iphoto library photos to a Kingston Datatrveler? Selecting "export" in my file choices brings up an aler that no exporting plug-ins werefound.

If you don't have a File Export section in the Export window
you'll have to reinstll iPhoto. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the:
    HD/Library/Receipts folder (10.5 and earlier)
    or from the /var/db/receipts/  folder (10.6) .
or from the /private/var/db/receipts folder (10.7 or later)
Then install iPhoto from the source it came from originally.
Do you just want the photos on the flash drive or do you want the library as Kappy suggested?  With the library you'll get all of the organizational effort you've put into the library.
If it's just the photos you want open the library in the Finder like this:
locate the Originals folder or Masters folder (iPhoto 9 and later) and Option-drag it
to the flash dirve. That will give you just the original image files that are in the library.

  • HT202370 how do I export my iPhoto library to another disk

I want to reformat my hard drive but I want to keep my iPhoto library. Can I temporarily move the whole library to a USB disk or another drive while I am doing this? I just want to be able to get it back on my hard drive after it is cleanly installed. I have been backing up using time machine, so I am assuming I would be able to get my photos off of my backup disk, but I want to be sure to have a redundant backup just to be sure I am able to put my photos back on after the clean install.

No problem - but no exporting involved - just dragging
first be sure the EHD you are going to use is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) - and that you have a default "managed" library (the iPhoto preference to "copy imported items to the iPhoto library is in its checked state) - then
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
To bring it back repeat dragging from the EHD to the pictures folder of the main drive and option launching to switch back

  • How to export entire iPhoto library to external hard drive

i am trying to move my library to an external drive and have followed these & similar instructions: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1256384
when it comes to the step of opening iphoto & choosing a library i select the one i dragged to my external drive & iphoto remains empty. why is this happening? i have followed it step by step several times. i've even had a friend help who has done it before & still no photos show up.

You must be doing something incorrectly since this works fine
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)

  • How to export photos from iPhoto Library to normal folders?

    Hi,
I have been using iPhoto for a long time now, and I have many many thousands of photos well organised with albums and folders in my iPhoto library. However I find some things difficult and inefficient to do in iPhoto and I'm trying to move into other softwares like Photo Mechanics and Lightroom.
One of these things I find hard to do is to backup, I don't want to keep something like three libraries and import from camera into one library and do the same to the other two, switching external drives and computers. Nor do I want to copy a 250GB library once every couple of days, since it takes a while with non-SSD drives. Is there a more effective way to do this?
In the iPhoto "package contents" all my photos are organised by date, which is not really great since I have albums in my library filled with photos from all around my library organised in folders, if that made any sense. Is there a way to export my iPhoto library keeping all my folders and albums intact (also ratings)? Like folders containing photos within folders with the names that were used inside iPhoto? I've already tried using the normal export tool, it doesn't work since it goes by dates or "events".
I have tried the "iPhoto to Disk" software, but I'm curious if there is a better way? Will it be easier to do this in Aperture?
    Thanks in advance

export using the option for "subfolder format" - Exporting From iPhoto
Backing up - simplest use TimeMachine - or software like Carbon Copy Cloner that can update only the new portions of the iPhoto library
As to "better than iPhoto to disk" - it is a rest program - what is it that you  want to do "better"
And for Aperture questions you will get better answers in the Aperture forum as that is where Aperture uses hang out
And with regards to going into the iPhoto library package contents - don't - it is not supported and is very dangerous - a small mistake there can wipe out your library - there never is a reason to be in it unless instructed by an expert - there simply are no user serviceable parts in it

  • Export Iphoto-library to file structure

I have been searching around for quite some while how to export the Iphoto-library into a 'classic' directory file structure (e.g. folder/event; folder/album,...).
Main raison for doing this is for backup and consolidation purposes: I have quite some 1000nds of pictures on traditional directory structures on my NAS; I want to consolidate this with the Iphoto data I have, without imoprting all the existing stuff into Iphoto.
I have found in fact 2 applications which should serve this purpose:
    - the Iphoto to disk solution: http://www.iphototodisk.com, which seems no longer updated and the album export-feature was only in rel. 4 beta available
    - Photoshare: a scripting based tool, but I experienced some issues witht the export of albums (empty...)
    - a number of scripts found on teh internet.
I also read somewhere that a good alternativ eis to upgrade to Aperture, which seem sto have a better export-capability, including an export which allows to export to full library accoring to events and albums.
I'm surprise that there are not more apps availble for this,as it seems to be a hot topic on the internet.
    Any advice ?

  • Trouble exporting iphoto library....PLEASE HELP

I'm exporting my massive 6,000 + pictures to my flash drive but only transfers half... Then I did a folder for each event and it transfers but when I open the file on the flash drive it says " the file jpg could not be open" please help

What you just described, is not exporting the "iPhoto Library" file.  Just to clairify, you start by selecting one of your "events", then exporting it out to a folder on  an external drive.  Is that correct?

  • IPhoto library export and update

I exported my iPhoto library to my Time Capsule a month ago and have since deleted photos on my MacBook Pro and added more photos. I I export my iPhoto library again to time capsule will it delete the photos that where deleted from my laptop? I don't want it to delete the photos I deleted on laptop I just want it to add the new photos. Like everyone else I am trying to make space on my laptop. Also is there a way to export just one event?

Your post is extremely confusing and unclear
We only have words to communicae with so useing the correct ones correctly is critical to getting good advice
read the user tip on exporting to better understand it and what it does - https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/iphoto?view=documents
A "Time Capsule" is a hardware device that can be useed for several pruposes - are you using it strictlyh as an external hard drive (one potential) or as the backup volume for Time Machine(a software program)
To make space on our laptop you need an external hard drive (not one that is being used for your Time Machine backup volume) that is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) - and then
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)

  • Export IPhoto Library from Aperture back to IPhoto

I imported my IPhoto Library into Aperture, I would like to put the IPhoto Library back into IPhoto how do I export the Iphoto Library back to IPhoto?

Restoring from your backup would be the fastest way.

  • Try to export iphoto library to external hard drive

    Good day all
I try to my hard drive is getting full. I try to export my iphoto library but i made a mistake. when i open i photo none of the thumbtab shows up. I would have to go into the library folder to get the picture. I have not delete the orginal photos from the mac hard drive.  (iphoto6)

I moved my iPhoto library to an external disk without any problem.
I copied the iPhoto Library to the external disk. Then I started iPhoto with the Option key depressed and pointed iPhoto at the Library on the external disk. Once I was sure iPhoto was working with the Library on the external disk and only then did I delete the original Library.

  • Export iphoto library to android phone

Is there a simple method to export my iPhoto library so that it could be accessed via an Android phone, while keeping the logical segmentation by Events?  I know I can just photos, then copy them to DropBox or Google Drive, then access on the phone.  However, it doesn't make sense to do so if they are going to end up in one pile without any separation.  Is it easier to do in the new Photos app?
I'm running the latest iPhoto and 4.3 Android.

Exporting from iPhoto keeping the event structure is simple - see Exporting From iPhoto  --  specifically subfolder structure
as to importing to Android - a question for your Phone support or Google - that does not involve iPhoto for the Mac (or photos either for that matter)

  • Exporting iPhoto library

I have exported my iPhoto library to an external hard drive which is formatted MS-DOS (FAT).  So far as I can tell, it is all working fine.  Have I missed something?  I have read posts which say that the drive must be journaled for iPhoto to work properly and do not want to continue working the way I have if I am storting up issues for the future.
    Many thanks.

I have exported my iPhoto library to an external hard drive which is formatted MS-DOS (FAT).
What do you mean by "exported my iPhoto Library" ? Have you copied it to the external drive? And what is your iPhoto version?
The iPhoto User Manual does not say so, but I would refrain from using drives not formatted Mac OS X with a Photo Library - you are risking to corrupt the library and to lose images.
Aperture and iPhoto share a unified library format - each application can read and write the others libraries, and for Aperture it is clearly stated in Apple's support articles, that the library needs to be on a locally connected volume, formatted Mac OS X extended (journaled). IT is reasonable to assume that the same goes for iPhoto.
Other disk formats may cause iPhoto to lose the reference to the original image files because of imconsistencies between image file names.

  • Size of iPhoto Library greatly over estimated by Aperture on import.

Trying to import a 106GB iPhoto library into Aperture. I get "Error Importing Library. 1500.80 GB is needed, but only 469.29 GB available." Anyone know what's up? Both apps on latest version.

I wasn't able to export the iPhoto library until I followed a tip to place all the projects into a folder. That worked and then new Aperture library seems to be an exact replica of the old iPhoto library.
It hasn't solved anything though, as I now get this: "1896.37 GB is needed, but only 464.40 GB is available." It's gotten worse as it said 1500GB yesterday.
Both libraries are on the latest release and I have ca 25.000 images in the old library. It is just short of 106GB on disk.

  • How do I import a saved Iphoto Library into Iphoto

    Hi All,
Apologies if this is a simple question but I just cant figure out the best way to do this...
I exported my Iphoto Library onto an external hard drive when I reimaged my mac. I now want to import them back into Iphoto but when I hit import the Library is greyed out as an option. I can view the photos when I select that Library on launching IPhoto but it wont let me import them.
How do I go about doing this? It must be possible! I would be a lot more comfortable having my photos saved natively on the Mac as well as the Hard Drive.
    Thanks in advance,
    Oli

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with
Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
