Exporting Anamorphic 16:9 won't work
For an academic assignment I have download some You Tube videos to place in a presentation, a couple of them are incorrect aspect ratio, i.e squashed and tall, I've imported them into FCP, then changed the "Settings" to Anamorphic 16:9, and the sequence changes in the Viewer to the correct aspect ratio, but when I export as a Quicktime Movie it goes back to it's squashed and tall 4:3 aspect ratio, am I missing something? Any ideas?

I didn't actually claim it would work with your movie because it's hard to know for sure what the properties of your sequence are. That's how it works with DV NTSC widescreen movies.
IF your sequence is NTSC DV Widescreen. If its properties show 720x480 with the anamorphic checkbox ticked and compressor is DV NTSC. If you export Quicktime Movie with settings same as source...if all those things are true the movie will behave as I said.
However, that movie is not suitable for general distribution on the web because of its non-square pixels (and also because DV is not a good codec for web videos). For that purpose it should be changed to square pixel dimensions and a codec like H.264.

Disc image file exported from Encore CS4 won't work
Hello,
I have a problem concerning the export of a disc image file in Encore CS4. I recently upgraded to CS4 and wanted to continue my project which I started editing with CS3. While working with CS3 I already did image files from this project for burning and testing the DVD. Back then it worked with no problems.
However, since using the CS4 version Encore does the image without any problem, but I can't use the image file in any way afterwards. I mounted it with Daemon Tools as I did before, but the DVD won't play in any software DVD player I have installed (Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, Nero Showtime) nor can I access the file structure over a file manager. Nevertheless NeroInfoTool and ImgBurn say there is a DVD in the virtual drive. Then I exported the DVD project into a folder and now I can see the files in the file manger but again no player will play it.
Has anyone experienced this before and is able to help? It would be very appreciated since I don't want to downgrade back to CS3 :-)
It's Encore CS4, Version 4.0.1.048 on a 2,8 GHz HT CPU, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 6800 UT, lots of HDD space, XP + SP3.

thank you both. As I said no player accepts the project exported to a folder. It doesn't matter if I point the player to the video_ts.ifo or just the folder - it won't play. As a consequence I re-installed Encore CS3 in which exporting worked fine and guess what - the exported image and folder output doesn't work either. Since it worked before in CS3 it comes down to the conclusion that either I did some editing to the project that screwed the project or Encore CS4 did. Checking for mistakes in the project and previewing in inside CS4 everything seems fine. So might it be CS4 that ****** up the project file??? I mean it's full of strange bugs so it could easily be that. I even updated my Daemon Tools yesterday and it won't make a difference.
Or could it be something else I haven't considered yet? Any ideas? I just don't want to build the whole project again which might not even work if it's some other error. This is a desperate call for help

Export using a cronjob won't work

I am using RHEL4 and oracle. I am trying to set a cronjob that'll make a schema export. The file I edited is under /home and it's called export.sh. When I run it manually (./export.sh )as the oracle user, it runs without problem. When I set cronjob, it doesn't run. To set my cronjob, I entered the following cronjob -e as oracle user and I entered the following 30 18 * * * /home/export.sh so the job executes everyday throughout the year at 6:30 pm. I also set execute provilege on that file. What can be the issue? Any tips to solve it?

Do I need again to explicitly add them environnement variables in my scripts? The .profile file seems not to exist. I checked in the $HOME/ no such file. Besides, I tried all the tips u suggested and for some, it worked without problem and for some other I got an email of the sort I posted above. Say I want to write another script to backup my database, should I also add the line u all suggested in my RMAN script? Anyway, am gonna test that out see how it goes and let you know. I purchased the package that allows you to export PDF files into Word files. Whenever I try to export the PDF into a Word file it never works... I don't know if there's something key that I'm missing but I'm pretty bummed I paid for it and it won't work. Can anybody help me out?

What still won't work? You have the photos in a folder on the Desktop, right? So what happens when you drag that folder onto the thumbdrive? Many such drives have a slider lock switch. Make sure it's not in the locked position.
Otherwise give us more detailed info on your setup and issue.

Menu Buttons won't work after exporting to flash
This is a strange problem, and I can't seem to figure it out.
I've created a demo DVD with my work on it. The DVD navigates and works fine. It has a "First Play" and the end action to the first play is the main menu. There are 6 buttons on the main menu. 2 Buttons link to 2 other menus which have my work broke down by category. 3 buttons link to 3 different and separate timelines, like a graphic montage, replay the first play, and play all. Then the last button just links to my contact info. It all works fine on a DVD export.
When I export to flash, once the first play finishes playing, and the end action is triggered (which is to go to the main menu) none of the buttons will work on the main menu page. If reload the page, and while the first play is playing, I skip first play by going to the main menu (by clicking on the flash button for main menu), the buttons on the main menu will work fine. But once I go to one of the sub-category menus and play something, then click on the "Back to Main Menu Button", it won't work. I am stuck on that sub-menu.
Same thing happens if, on the main menu page, I click on "graphic montage". When the graphic montage timeline plays all the way through from start to finish, the end action takes me back to the main menu, but none of the buttons on the main menu button work. But if I interrupt the "graphic montage" by clicking on the main menu flash button, and go back to the main menu, then the buttons on the main menu work fine. This problem only seems to happen when I click a button and the timeline play in it's entirety. If I interrupt the timeline (say like half-way through) the buttons on the menus will work fine.
I hope this all makes sense. It's hard to explain. But if you do understand what I'm trying to say, any help would be grateful.

Main = Chapter Select & Play All. (both links work)
Sub = 9 links to Chapter Points & Main Menu. (NO links work)
I only have this problem when I export to Flash.
Everything seems to be fine when I preview or create a DVD.
I have tried with Firefox, InternetExplorer, & Safari; both locally and loaded to the server.

Exporting from iMovie to video iPod won't work
Hello everybody,
I am just fooling around with the new iPod my wife gave me for my birthday.
I am trying to get a movie I just finished into my iPod.
As my program is in German, I hope I'll use the correct English words .
In "File" there is the button "Send"; when You choose "Quicktime" and "own settings" there'll be a window "export as...", where You choose "film --> iPod (320*240)" and push the button.
After rendering I dragged the outcome into iTunes, and there from the bibliotheque to the iPod. After that I keep getting the error message (roughly) that my film could not be copied, as the iPod can't play back films like that. There is a link where they promise You further information, but that leads to nowhere.
The film plays back from the iTunes bibliotheque without problem, it's suffix is *.m4v.
Has anybody got a solution (or an idea, at least)?

I didn't know this article, but that's exactly what I did; I just used the greek word "bibliotheque" instead of the latin "library" .
And the suffix of the file after rendering is *.m4v as in the above mentioned article.
Still it won't work.

Hi, I have the problem which iTunes cannot detect my iPhone 4s. I tried the steps you have provided in your troubleshooting, but it won't work for me because the Apple Mobile Devilce is perfectly installed on my windows. However, the driver "Microsoft teredo Tunneling adapter" has a yellow exclamation mark, which i believe means it's not installed correctly or something is wrong with it. This driver is under the Network Adapters (Please see picture below).
This is what happens when I connect my iPhone 4s to my laptop (Windows 7 Starter 32-bit)
1. The phone charges it's battery
2. I can open it in My Computer and import/export media files.
In iTunes
3. It start to sync until step 3 then stops.
4. The iPhone option with an arrow appears beside the iTunes Store, but when the arrow is clicked it disappears.
I hope you can provide me a solution for this problem.

For your iTunes issue with it not recognizing your iPhone, I would go ahead and suggest deleting iTunes and all of its components from your Windows computer and installing fresh.

As far as the arrow button that you click and the iPhone disappears, it sounds like you may be clicking on the eject button. Please take a look at the following article for information on the eject button in iTunes.

You want to downgrade because the new updates won't work? Read this.
First of all, I'm not any kind of techie person, I just have gone through this horrible experience of not being able to get into the itunes store at all after downloading the last 2 updates (7.4.2.4 and 7.4.3.1). Once I downgraded to 7.3.2.6 I was back in the itunes store downloading whatever I wanted. But, it was not all fun & games - the library file wouldn't work with the older version of itunes, and I lost all my playlists and had to reimport all my music. The second time I downgraded I did figure out how to save the playlists, but I still haven't figured out how to restore the itunes library file. If anyone has ideas about that feel free to post here.
I consider this a last resort if you really need to get into the store. Hopefully you have already tried other suggestions in other forums. If you do decide to try this, you should read everything first to see what you're getting into. Also, if you just bought a new ipod, it probably won't work with the older version. You should keep calling the apple support phone #.
The process isn't that much harder than installing an new version, although you need to uninstall 7.4.x first. *If you decide to try this I highly suggest you do a backup to disk first just in case.* Uninstalling itunes doesn't delete any of your music files, but it never hurts to have a backup. Go to File>Backup to disc.
By the way, this is assuming you're on Windows XP.
First get ready:
1. Go to File>Export Library. Save this file somewhere in your My Documents Folder, not the iTunes folder.
2. Export each playlist you have individually by right clicking on the playlist and selecting Export songlist. Save these text files in the same folder as #1.
3. Now, download the version of iTunes you want from oldapps.com/itunes.htm. I used 7.3.2 and it worked fine.
4. While that's downloading start uninstalling iTunes under Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Remove Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update, iTunes and QuickTime. Don't restart until all 4 are removed. (Optional, also run CCleaner - click the 'issues' button. This gets rid of a lot of little files that don't get removed in this process, but it's a little intimidating if you're not a techie person.)
5. Now restart. After you're back up, click on the iTunes setup file you just downloaded. After it installs, when you open iTunes the first time, you'll probably see this error: "The file 'iTunes Library.itl' cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." When you click ok the box closes & iTunes doesn't open.
Go into your iTunes folder (usually in your My Music folder) and remove this file - it will show up as iTunes Library.itl or maybe just iTunes Library. You could just delete it because you already have a backup from step #1. The other file, also called iTunes Library, is an .xml file that you can delete if you want.
6. Open iTunes - it will look totally blank w/ no files. Don't panic! Go to File>Import and try to import the library you made way back in step #1. I'm sorry to say it might not work. If it doesn't, the next thing to try is to import an older version of the library file, which will be in the "Previous iTunes Libraries" folder inside the iTunes folder. This also didn't work for me. So....
7. If you couldn't get the library file to open, you need to add your music back in. I just went to File>Add Folder to Library and added my My Music folder. You could also try doing it from backup discs but that takes a long time; in either case, if you have a lot of music this will take awhile. Just let iTunes do it's thing.
8. Now you can go to File>Import and select the playlists you created in step #1. This did work for me when I went from 7.4.3.1 back to 7.3.2.6.
You should be good to go! I hope this helps some people. If you have any questions you can post them, but I can't promise that I will have answers.
meeshalaHi - it sounds like you still need to move the library file, which is in step 5 of my original post; this is assuming you exported your library before you went back to 7.3 - if you didn't do that, don't delete anything yet - just try moving the itunes library.itl file onto your desktop:

Since I wrote that I've gone back and forth a couple of times, and importing the backup library file should work. If for some reason you didn't export your library, you can try importing the iTunes Music Library.xml file in your iTunes folder. It takes a really long time but this does also work.
If you were having the same 11333 error that I was, I was finally able to get into the iTunes store with 7.4.3 after installing certificate revocations lists as described on this page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306628
I think that's helped a lot of people - have you tried that? Of course, to do that you would have to reinstall the newer version to try it.

Hyperlinks won't work on some pages

- there are no links to local files, all URL's starting http://www.
- I'm using Acrobat Pro X (although also checking it in plain old Acrobat Reader)
- I'm creating it with InDesign CS5
- The links are definitely there when I open it up in Acrobat. I've evn tried setting the links up using Acrobat to test if it was a problem exporting from InDesign but that also didn't work for them.
I'm checking with the client now about the version(s) of Acrobat Reader they're on and also asking them to check the links within it. Are there any settings their end which could stop them working do you know? They've told me older documents with URL hyperlinks are still working fine, so wouldn't appear to be that.
I'm afraid this file is confidential, so I can't really share.
The latest test I've tried are to create a new 'for web' document and that seems to have helped testing on a different machine, although I'm waiting to see if it's had any effect with the client. I cannot think of any other things to try right now!

"Compress images in pdf documents" won't work
I created this workflow:
1. Get selected Finder objects
2. Compress images in pdf documents
3. Copy Finder objects to...
... but it won't work, the images are not compressed. Anyone any suggestions?To examine this I made three pdf documents from three Pages documents (running compression during export to pdf) each containing one image: one psd, one tiff and one jpg image. Running the workflow on these pdfs, the pdfs containing the psd and the tiff files were compressed but not the pdf containing the jpg image. I then made two pdf documents exported from Indesign containing a tiff file; one pdf export compressing and downsampling the tiff image and one with no downsampling and compression. Running the workflow on these two pdfs did not further compress the already compressed pdf, but did compress the pdf containing the uncompressed image. To further optimize pdf documents already compressed on export from Indesign one has to use Acrobat, which, of course, is the most efficient and flexible tool for optimizing pdf documents.

Trying to make a page turning book on a Mac in InDesign, won't work
I have been trying for a few days to create an interactive book (where the pages turn) but when I go to preview the navigation button won't work (they show the roll over but don't actually move to the next page). Also I try to export and save as a .swf file but it says that it is 'not supported'. Can anyone help, I would be very grateful!

- The interactive PDF you sent me works fine. The iD file opens fine as well and is exactly the same process so that checks.
-I exported your iD file to .swf, created a new iD document and imported the exported .swf file from the file you created. I exported this new document to interactive PDF. I open it and again I click the links and only google chrome windows open

I think there is something going on in my end. "Google Chrome" or "Flash" might be intersecting email links or something becuase I cannot get these .swf + interactive pdf combo to open the email client not even after I used your iD file, exported .swf, imported it and export again to interactive pdf.
Again the interactive pdf you sent works fine and when I export my file to interactive pdf it works on my end as well, its only after i export to swf and then I use the file inside iD and export to interactive pdf that it does causes me trouble. I will see what I can do to fix this. At least it was working for you so if its only in my end then its not that bad but it will bugg me forever haha!

I have a new Dell, Windows 7. IE and Chrome work beautifully (I had to install these to get onto the Internet since Mozilla won't work). Older versions of Mozilla worked for a few seconds, but then the auto update kicked in (to 5.0). I even tried to stop the auto updates immediately after installing an earlier version, that didn't work either. Mozilla will not allow me to enter text, lets me enter a few letters then freezes. I am trying to put a flash video on my website. I tried to
follow all the directions from start to finish, but somewhere along
the way I went wrong. I have a video I made in Final Cut Pro,
exported in QT format. I used the Adobe Flash Encoder to convert
the .mov to a .flv file. Then I imported the .flv file into Flash
CS3 Pro and put a skin to it and saved the .fla and exported as
.swf. Then I went into Dreamweaver CS3 and used the "insert media"
function to insert the .swf file. I got it positioned correctly and
go to view it in the broswer - looks great, autoplay works, skin
appears, etc. So then I upload / "put" to the server and click
"yes" to include dependent elements. But then when I navigate to
the site from the brower, the video doesn't work. In fact, it
doesnt show up at all. All you see is a blank spot where the video
should be. Its probably obvious by now that Im not too terribly
knowledgeable about DW or web design or HTML, but I feel like I got
pretty close and Im frustrated that it won't work. Since it works
perfectly in the "preview in browser" function in DW, I feel that I
am getting close. But my guess is that the error is somewhere in
the upload to server process since it works locally but not
remotely. Any help would be much appreciated as Im getting
frustrated. Below is the URL. The problem could be anywhere in the
process. I tried creating the .fla file with both a local reference
to the .flv file (and then uploading all to server) as well as
creating with a reference to the .flv file after already uploading
to server. Still no cigar. I can look at the remote view and see
that the .html file, the .swf file, the .fla file, the .flv file,
and the script file are all uploaded. Maybe the referencing is
incorrect...just not sure. Thanks !
