Exporting Animation Spec Sheets

Hello All,
I'm about to begin designing a Material Design mobile app. Anyone familiar with Google's Material Design Documentation knows how important animations are for this new design philosophy. I'm very excited about being able to create beautiful custom animations that the OS will support, but I'm concerned about how to make sure my developer has enough information to execute them accurately. In addition to the animation itself, I'm probably going to have to provide a Spec Sheet of sorts that will provide values for opacity, scale, position changes over time. Is there any way to automatically export this information from After Effects, so that I don't have to go through every property of every layer and transcribe it all out?
If After Effects does not support Spec Sheet export in any way, I'm also curious about whether there are any extensions that would be able to...

You don't create animations for an OS, do you? You tell the programmer how you want the animation to occur and he/she uses the programming language to execute the moves you design. IN the example where a photo is chosen from the list, you will not be animating the actual photo movement any more than you'll be animating the button clicks; those are done in the API. All you're going to be doing it designing stuff that your programmer will be trying to emulate in the OS.
There are scripts that can be used to pick up animation settings and create a text image that displays on screen. I've seen them demonstrated but I have no experience with scripting. For instance, your movies could, using these scripts, run a heads up display of parameters as they change. However, you're asking for a lot of trouble. AE is not really a design workup environment. Most interface designers I know work in Powerpoint, which is swift and easy and lame, or they use  OS-specific development tools like, umm, BootStrap.
I applaud Google for trying to educate their designer and programmers about the finer points of visual continuity and all but, LaRonde is right, we've been doing this stuff for a l-o-n-g time.

  • Premiere timeline printing (for animation x-sheet use)

    I have used a very old version of adobe premiere (premiere 5 windows) to print timeline pdfs of pix icon and waveform of animatic quicktimes. I would add anotations to these in acrobat for specific animation timing direction ( as replacement for traditional animation exposure sheets). My problem is that adobe long ago dropped their print timeline feature in more recent versions and I can't get the old version of premiere to even launch under any recent OS....
    I'm hoping there is a way to do the same thing with new Premiere Pro CC ....(just print premiere timeline of pix icons with audio waveform).. or a third party export for animation exposure sheet use... Any Suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Woody

    Woody,
    Thinking about your situation, I wonder if something like this would be useful (what Joe suggested, but with variations):
    I just expanded a blank Narration Audio Track, to about 6x the width of the displayed Video Track, did a screen-cap, brought it into Photoshop, and Selected that area of the Narration Track, applied a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer to it, to give room for annotations, etc.. As I only have PrPro 2.0 on this old laptop, things will look a bit different, but with the Adjustment Layer, it will not matter if the GUI is a darker gray.
    One can always add a blank Track, where desired, and expand it to suit. One could also create a white Filled Shape, w/ grid (see below), and just have that ready to be Pasted into the screen-cap of the Timeline. One could probably create an Action, or a Script, to handle much of that automatically, or at least semi-automatically.
    It is missing the grid, that your image shows, but one could easily create that with Paths and a thin Stroke on a Layer.
    There IS a little work to be done, but not THAT much.
    Just thinking of a workaround.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Creating spec sheets

    I've been using Edge Reflow to design and create a prototype for a new site design, and it's working brilliantly. We've reached the point where our dev team is ready to begin work, and they've asked for a detailed spec sheet/style guide for each of the pages. You know, something that shows font sizes/styles/colors, the amount of padding and margins for each element, etc. It's an easy enough document to prepare, just extremely time-consuming.
    I was thinking about how awesome it would be if Edge Reflow could somehow export all that information. Something like a large image file with note/captions all over it detailing the styling and spacing. Similar to how the margins are displayed when you select an element — only with more info.
    Dare to dream...

    Hi Jason -
    Thank you for your feedback, and I'm glad to hear that Reflow has been working well for you.
    Your suggestion about a spec sheet is something we've thought about, and it's in our backlog of work, but we haven't gotten to it yet.
    thanks again,
    Vic

  • Exporting to excel sheet

    Hi,
    I have problem exporting data to excel sheet In the java servlet.
    I am getting a date field as 03/15/2004 in servlet but after exporting to excel sheet it displayed as 3/15/2004 in excel.
    Is there a way I can show the way its comming in java servlet.
    Thanks,
    Zakir Hussain

    Excel will format stuff in its own way - depending upon the settings for date/time format on your computer.
    ie It will read the string from the servlet "03/15/2004" but then format the date according to its default rules.
    This may end up being "15 March 2004"
    Solution: change the default date format on your computer.
    In other words, you can't easily tell excel what to do from Java.

  • Best Codec for exporting animations with alpha channel from FCP timeline

    Whats the best codec for exporting animations (hopefully using loseless compression) that will retain alpha channel, and use the current sequence settings for fps and size?
    Currently Im exporting image sequences, but I'd prefer a wrapper.. I don't know much about the 'Animation' export codec.. I did notice that set to current size had some funky value of 753x450 or something.. instead of my current project size of 1920x1080...
    Anyhow.. Just seeing what others are doing..
    basically Im reading out some titles that I'll end up dropping over video later.. but since they render out so slowly (**** lower 3rds is slow) Im trying to get a jump on the process..
    Tx..

    PNG should do it. I think PNG is lossless (that's what they say, anyway). But realistically, if you use PNG, Animation, or JPG2000 set on highest quality, I'd dare you to tell a difference.
    I use PNG because it's supposedly lossless, renders twice as fast as Animation in a FCP timeline, and is usually about half the size.
    If you use "Export Using Quicktime Conversion", you will need to check all of the settings manually to make sure they match your sequence settings. This is always true, no matter what codec you use.
    If that sounds risky, your other option is to go into your sequence settings and change the codec to the one you want to render to (this will probably turn your whole timeline red), and then choose Export -> Quicktime movie.

  • Does Siri have a spec sheet?

    Does Siri have a spec sheet or developers forums?  I'd like to know the specs, limitations and processes it goes through.
    I'm developing a suggestions forums/blog and would like to know this information.
    Thanks.
    You can follow my blog and twitter at: http://sirisuggestions.blogspot.com/
    @sirisuggestions

    Siri is designed to be voice activated. However, if you want to search by typing, you can use the built in Spotlight search feature. Put your finger anywhere on the screen between icons and pull down. This will bring up the search bar. Type in what you want to search for. Spotlight will search both the phone and the web.
    You could also use the Bing or Google standalone apps.

  • ALV Edit Mask isn't applied when exporting as "Spread Sheet".

    Hi all,
    One of our program has "Edit Mask" as XXXXX____ for displaying data in ALV (Mask first 5 numbers as X, display last 4 numbers as it is).  However, when data is exported as "Spread Sheet", the edit mask is not applied.  Does anyone know how to force edit mask when data is exported as SpreadSheet (MHTML)?  If you export as "local File" and then do "SpreadSheet", the edit mask works.. it is just when the direct "SpreadSheet" done, it doesn't work.
    (i.e. CL_GUI_ALV_GRID->EXPORT_TO_SPREAD_SHEET doesn't apply EDIT Masks set in Field Catalog.)
    Here is more technical info.  We are on ECC 6.
    Field Catalog is of type LVC_T_FCAT.
    for a specific field, "EDIT_MASK" is set to XXXXX____.
    The ALV is called using
    My_ALV_CLASS->SET_TABLE_FOR_FIRST_DISPLAY
    exporting
    is_layout = My_layout
    is_toolbar_excluding = my_toolbar_exclude
    changing
    it_outtab = My_data_table
    it_fieldcatalog = MY_FIELD_CATALOG_DEFINATION_WHERE_EDIT_MASK_IS_SET
    exceptions...
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
    This is first time I am giving an answer.
    Instead of using a function module to merge the field catalog, try doing it one by one.
    for example,
    pt_fieldcat-col_pos = 01.
    pt_fieldcat-fieldname = 'KUNNR'.
    APPEND pt_fieldcat.
    pt_fieldcat-col_pos = 02.
    pt_fieldcat-fieldname = 'IP'.
    pt_fieldcat-edit = 'X'.
    pt_fieldcat-edit_mask = '-.-.-.-'.
    APPEND pt_fieldcat.
    and use the structure Z_IPADDR in method parameters instead of a function.
    CALL METHOD go_grid_ip->set_table_for_first_display
    EXPORTING
         i_structure_name = 'Z_IPADDR'
         it_toolbar_excluding = lt_exclude
         is_layout = ls_layout
    CHANGING
         it_fieldcatalog = pt_fieldcat
         it_outtab = p_t_auth_ip.
    CALL METHOD go_grid_ip->set_ready_for_input
    EXPORTING
    i_ready_for_input = 1.
    and also you can use following function module to check if the edited value is still in ALV or not
    CALL METHOD grid->check_changed_data
        IMPORTING
          e_valid = l_valid.
      IF l_valid IS NOT INITIAL.
    then the edited data in alv is successfully changed in internal table behind that.
    Debugging may find you an answer.
    Kind Regards,
    Manisha

    Got to admire what you've done Zak, tho' to be honest this was already done a very long time ago and in a lot more detail by Miranda in their Active Format Description / Digital Television Production Standards poster. Its kept relatively up to date, but not quite as modern as the list you're putting together ... still, I hope you'll find it a useful reference, it should certainly warm the heart of your inner geek

  • How to export animated gif with transparent background and glow effect?

    I've been having issues lately with creating animated gifs in flash. I finally figured out a way to export a gif with a transparent background but I'm now having an issue with it again because I'm using a glow effect. When the gif is exported the glow effect changes into a very poor quality and becomes less of a glow and more like a solid color. I've even exported a png sequence from flash and put it into photoshop then created a gif from there but I'm still having the same issue. Is there anyway I can properly export this in gif form so the quality is the same as when I test it in flash?
    I've provided an image of what my issue looks like and the settings (I've messed around with the settings and this is the best I can come up with) . This is in photoshop but the result is similar in flash. The left one is what it originally looks like and the right is what it will look like after exporting. As you can see as I said before the glow changes into more of a solid color kind of like a border. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

    A GIF is limited to 256 colors while a glow effect likely wants to tie up thousands (let's just say 'lots') of variations of tone.

  • HELP TO EXPORT ANIMATED GIF AS QUICKTIME FILE

    I have keynote 6.2 and have imported an animated gif file within my page presentation which also has a movie file and sound. When I export the file as a quicktime file, the final file does not show the animation at all, it is static?
    I have tried different options when exporting as a mov and 4p4 file, neither makes any difference, can someone help please.
    I am using the file to import into Imovie, where I am piecing everything together into a movie11.
    Thanks

    Thanks for your prompt reply Gary, but the problem is how can I resolve this? Do I import another file type? Can I export to another format other than Quicktime. Someone mentioned changing the frame rate of the animation to either 25 or 30 frames a second, or does this not make a difference?

  • Is there a way to print or export only one sheet from Numbers on IOS?

    Hello there -
    I am attempting to use Numbers to generate proposals and invoices in the field. My route is a simple (hopefully good-looking) front page, various forms by which to enter data and several additional sheets boasting a great many tables containing static data (parts costs by vendor, lists of customers et cetera) and many formulae which do the actual work.
    I just want to print/export the proposal or invoice (the front page as massaged by the "engine" on the back pages) rather than the whole flippin' workbook.
    Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Russ

    Hey there -
    Nope - at least not when printing to PDF. IOS is a tidge, er, limiting.
    I re-posted in the IOS area; we'll see what happens there.
    Thanks again,
