  • Premiere Elements 10 AVI file with MJPG CODEC

I am working on a project in PE 10 with video clips exported from MPEG Streamclip as AVI files.  They are sports highlight clips of about 20 seconds each.  I've been doing projects like these for years and have had no problems since my last post here in 2009.
After importing 30 clips to PE 10, editing the clips down, adding a highlight circle to each clip, and adding titles, I realized I wasn't getting any audio from these clips.  I thought that was strange but added some background music which I thought would be fine.  But the high schooler who I'm doing this for would like the game audio, so....
I began investigating here.  I opened GSpot and found that these files use the MJPG Codec and that the Codec is installed.  So I rendered the files (using 5 clips instead of all 30 just to see if this worked first) and the audio plays in the small window.  (I also looked at some clips from projects I've done with audio in GSpot to see what Codec they used, which was DivX.)
But in PE 10 I'm still not getting audio.  Is there something I can do to the video clips, or the project settings in PE 10 to get the audio back?

I spoke too soon.  I thought the new clip had audio because I was seeing an audio track in the timeline (which I was not seeing before saving with the new settings in MPEG Streamclip).  But there is no sound.
When I open the new clip in G Spot it says the audio codec is PCM Audio:
I'm guessing there is something different about the video camera used to shoot this video but there must be way some way to get audio in PE 10.  Like other postings, when I play the clips, before changing the settings in MPEG Streamclip, using VLC I'm getting the audio.
    Any other ideas?

  • .avi files and audio codecs with Quicktime and other software

Apple Mac OSX 10.5.8, Samsung LED TV, Video Camera saving movie files as .avi, audio codec unknown (G-Spot codec is not supported on the mac so I can’t check)
As a well retired non-computer savvy person I am very confused when it comes to talk about different video/audio codecs. I have read so many articles my head is now spinning with information I truly cannot understand.
Using the above hardware, when I play an .avi file direct from my camera onto my new TV I get a perfect picture but the TV tells me “the audio codec is not supported”.
I have tried, using Quicktime Pro and others such as AVCWare Mac Video Converter and Divx converter, to convert the .avi file with unknown audio codec to an .avi using mp3 codec. This is successful but the camera will not play the file and when downloaded onto a flash stick the TV now tells me “not supported file format”. The TV gives me a Divx registration and deactivation code but I am not sure whether this refers to the TV or the flash stick!
To keep things short, all I want to do is edit/crop .avi files from the camera, save with a readable audio codec, put the files into the TV using a burnt DVD or play direct using a flash stick. The TV supports among other video formats Avi, MKV, ASF, MP4, 3GPP and audio being mainly MP3, AC3, LPCM, ADPCM
    Hope someone can help please.
    Many thanks Robin Welch

    Hi George,
Thank you very much for your last post. One small piece of information from you regarding frame size was the final part to my jigsaw. I recently purchased a new digital camcorder and LED TV and getting them to talk to each other has taken me since December! Having installed MediaInfo as you suggested, I found the camera saved the .avi files with AAC LC audio codec (first piece of the jigsaw). Talking to the people at DivX about the problem brought up the fact that both my TV and Sony Home Theatre should be registered to play DivX files, this I did (second piece). Having reinstalled Perian and opening my .avi files in Quicktime player I tried saving the files as DivX to several profile options including Home Theatre with max 720 pixels (last piece). At last it works fine. Thank you for your help, I am very grateful.

  • I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (.m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing)

I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (e.g. .m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing), all I want QuickTime to do is export the file in a compressed format. Bizzarely, if I shutdown and open QuickTime many times I can occasionally export a clip as another format (maybe one in 10 times). I have seen that other users have had a similar problem after clipping files in QuickTime but this seems to be a slightly different bug in that all I do is open the file and then try and export the file as is - either way, this is a very annoying bug

@Z_B-B, thank you for taking the time to respond to my cry for help. However, the link you supplied does not address the problem: I am not trying to export from Final Cut Pro to QuickTime, I am trying to export from QuickTime to the rest of the world (like people's iPhones and Ipads) in .m4v format (so I am not emailing my freinds such huge files).
If I were to spend hundreds of Dollars on a copy of Final Pro I could export directly from there and not have to bother with QuickTime, but I do not take enough video clips to justify the cost. I must say that I never had any of these problems before I decided to switch from Snow Leopard to Mountai Lion.

  • Is it possible to export uncompressed .avi files over 4 gigabytes?

I want to export my 70+ min movie as one uncompressed .avi - file with FCP
but it turns out only 4 gigabytes of data (35-50 seconds) are visible in the exported clip. The rest is black.
How do I get around this problem?

The drive is mac standard (not FAT32) and I have checked + confirmed that the drive can take files larger than 4 gigabytes.
The .avi file I export IS the right size (200+ gigabytes).
Even though the audio and video doesn't show up after a certain point.
I use Quicktime conversion - avi (compressor : none, quality: best) etc.
I've tried saving with and without sound (48khz 16bit uncompressed)
When I save without sound, the exported file contained a little bit more video data (a few more seconds)
which supports my 4 gig limit theory.
I just want to export the movie in it's uncompressed state
for editing on a PC (premiere cs4)

  • 5.1 surround audio into Final Cut Studio out to AVI file with 5.1 surround?

Someone wants to give me a 5.1 surround sound audio file for importing into my Final Cut Studio project, then I export my video (now with 5.1 surround) out to an AVI file with the 5.1 surround sound intact. How do I do this?
    thanks

    I also have this problem...
Purchased an HD TV show (Nip/Tuck) and selected the alternate audio track labeled "Surround Audio" and got that digital audio "NOISE".
Regular audio sounds fine - can play iTunes music and system sounds sound good, just can't select the alternate "Surround" audio track without getting the noise.
I'm on an "older" MacMini - Intel CoreDuo using the SPDIF optical output into a Pioneer 5.1 receiver set to the appropriate Optical input and "Dolby Digital". I attempted to change the audio input processing on the receiver...all of which have the noise described by others...
Would LOVE a solution to this problem...

  • Is microsoft avi the highest quality format to export an avi file in premiere pro cs4?

    Hello,
I exported an avi file in premiere pro cs4 in media encoder using Microsoft avi format but the quality turned out poor on dvd, what's the highest quality format I can use?
    Please help
    Thanks
    Elio

    Elio,
As has been stated, DV-AVI is not the format FOR a DVD-Video. However, it can be used (and often is) as a transport medium into a DVD authoring program, like Encore.
Can you please outline your workflow from PrPro to the final DVD, and is it a DVD-Video (will contain MPEG-2 material in VOB "containers"), or a DVD-Data, that is then played on a computer with something like Windows Media Player, VLC, MediaPlayer Classic HC, etc.?
Good luck, and please let us know exactly what you are doing, and the programs used.

  • I can't run .avi files with OS 10.8

Why I don't see .avi files with OS 10.8? Usually I could run .avi files in my iMAC o Mac Book Pro but after I turned to OS 10.7 or 10.8 it was not possible anymore. Some older avi files use to run in Power Point presentations but not the new ones. Anytime that I try appear a sign that refer to there is no valid codec to run the clip.
    Thank you.

can anyone help? am running osx 10.9 on macbook
QT X v10.3 only plays JPEG/PCM AVI files natively. Either use QT 7 player (with system configured for appropriate codecs), use a third-party player like VLC (with its own built-in codec support), or convert the files to compression formats like H.264/AAC, MPEG4/AAC, or ProRes/LPCM which are natively supported by the QT X v10.3 player.

  • Exporting to AVi file

I want to use captivate to export an avi file. I'm creating a
movie with other video elements in Pinnacle and Pinnacle does not
recognize swf formats - any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi sunteeser and welcome to our community
Unfortunately, Captivate doesn't offer this ability. It's
like saying you want to use a table saw to drive a nail into a
piece of wood. The tool simply wasn't designed for this purpose.
The only possibility that comes to mind is to maybe pull the
Captivate file into Flash and perhaps create AVI output from that.
    Cheers... Rick

I still use Aperture 2.1.4.  I need to export an image file with a CMYK profile.  Whereas a generic CMYK profile is listed in ColorSync Utility, it does not appear on the list of profiles in the edit portion of the export preset dialogue.  Help?  Is there some way to add the CMYK profile to the list of choices that are available in the export preset dialogue such that I can choose it?

Thanks for your response.  My profiles are located within color sync utility as you can see here:
These profiles do not respond to clicking and dragging.  Since they are all in one place, more or less, I'm reluctant to make further attempts to relocate them.  Accessing the CMYK profile is the first difficult experience I've encountered with this arrangement.  I have never needed the CMYK profile until recently, and that need has now past.  However, it remains a mystery to me as to why it does not appear with all the others on the menu of export choices in Aperture 2, or on the menu of profile assignment choices in the Preview application (where again all the other profiles are listed as choices).  I'm beginning to think my current set up will permit me to view an image that was created in CMYK space, but does not easily assign, or convert to that space.  I don't face these restrictions with all the others, so it remains a curious circumstance for me.  I anticipate upgrading my computer and software in the near future which might alleviate this issue altogether.  Again, many thanks for your attention to this matter.  The reach of this community is astounding.

  • Import DV AVI Files with 5.1 Audio

To my surprise, Encore would not import DV AVI files from Premiere with 5.1 Audio. I much prefer to do my transcoding in Encore rather than in Premiere so I don't have to guess how much disk space will remain after menus and other content. Also, I think Encore transcoding is more efficient than Premiere.
Yet, cheaper and less sophisticated applications such as Nerovision will import DV AVI files with 5.1 audio, and give you 5.1 DVD's.
Which leads to another question, why does a cheaper application just give you the Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio, while a fee has to be paid to Surcode to get it in the Adobe applications?

You cannot create a 5.1 Dolby Digital file in Encore, so the answer is an emphatic "YES" to the planning & budgeting.
You really should be doing this anyway, as it is a real eye opener. There are some superb Excel spreadsheet bit budgeting tools, as well as a simple enough manual method. It should be detailed in the FAQ.
As far as DTS goes, you'll need an encoder again. The only plugin version I am aware of is for Steinberg's Nuendo & Cubase systems, but both DTS and SurCode make them.
The SurCode DTS-DVD encoder is dated now - 5 years or so - and the Nuendo one sounds better. Having said that, the DTS-PSE sounds even better, as well as having DTS-ES and DTS 96/24 capability (both of which are DVD Legal).
Even better are the soon-to-be-released DTS-HD SAS & MAS encoders.
These are primarily for the Blue-ish type discs, but also cater for so-called "legacy" encoding as well, and the detail is even better than the DTS-PSE version. You can hear the difference in the detail where the top end sounds more natural & open. Whatever version you get will make Dobly Dirgital sound dull & muddy by comparison.
Quality can be improved by feeding the encoder with 24 bit audio too - this also applies to Dolby Digital.
Bitrates for DTS are either 754 kb/sec or 1509 kb/sec, and come in 2 flavours:
Compact (.cpt) and Padded (.dts) - either can use the lower bitrate, and there is no difference in audio quality between the CPT and DTS flavours. I recommend using the higher bitrate personally.
Both types are supported in Passthrough mode in Encore - that is to say they import, and multiplex correctly but cannot be previewed.
    Hope this helps.

  • Export JPEG-XR files with CS5.5 ?

Where do I get a plugin to export JPEG-XR files with CS5.5 / Photoshop 12.1?
This posting asks is there is interest for a native implementation... I am ok with just a plugin to just try it out.

    Does this exist?

  • How on can get the plaback of .mov files with Redcode Codecs?

    Hi folks,
I am not able to play the .mov files created by Red camera so..
how one can get the playback of .mov files with Redcode Codecs?

Well, one typically doesn't edit with any of the proxy-files the RED camera produces.  You need to convert the RED footage to ProRes.  Log and Transfer can do this, if you download and install the RED Log and Transfer plugin.  Or you might need to use RED software to convert the footage to ProRes.  But those Red proxy files won't import via log and transfer, and are NOT editable in FCP.  Gotta convert to ProRes.

  • Export .m4a Audio File with Cover Art?

Hi, I recently upgraded to GarageBand 10.0.1 after purchasing a new MBP and have been mostly successful in finding all of the changes in the app, except this one.  I use GB to create an audio podcast weekly, and in previous versions, I had the ability to export an audio file with the iTunes cover art already attached to it.  I cannot find this feature in GB 10.0.1.  Am I missing something?  Thx for your time and any help given.

That is disappointing. Usually Apple is better about taking away steps to creating things, not adding to the number of steps required to create things.
GarageBand has been released a bit early. I am hoping, there is more to come. Otherwise, the installer would not have left the old version installed. It is a clear sign, that Apple knows, that some important features are still missing in GB 10.0. For the time being, I am starting the projects in GB '11, and add the finishing touches - drummer, arpeggiator in GarageBand 10.0.
