Exporting audio for transcription

Hi.
Has anyone using FCP ever exported audio for a transcription service using only the program's audio on one channel and timecode on the other? Can this be done with the AVI or WAV format. MP3 audio would be ideal but it's not an export option from FCP. Is a plug-in or another program needed for this?

I Googled "LTC out from final cut pro". There are some expensive add on boxes that might do this, but it does not seem to be possible within the FCP toolset.
Might I ask why you need this? Maybe folks here can come up with some kind of workaround solution.
I have made Umatics in the past with LTC on an audio track for dubbing studios, but that was way back in the 80s. Thought I had seen the last of it.
What about a viz TC on a very small QuickTime video - is that a possibility?

  • Exporting audio for an iPad App

I edited an MP3 audio file for a friend - it's narration of a book, about 4.5 minutes. I need to export it for an ipad app he's creating and want it as small as possible but still have the audio quality be good.
    Any recommendations for settings? Thanks.

create an .M4a file. change the extension to M4b. That's the audiobook format. The ios device will recognize it as a book. In iTunes (and elsewhere), do a get info for the file and add a book cover, or other artwork, and update the data fields. Make sure that it's set to remember where the listener leaves off.

  • Trying to export audio for editing in Logic...

I'm having an issue properly exporting audio from some video I shot... I was able to export the audio as an AIFF file, but when I import it into Logic (to enhance the audio), it plays back at a different pitch and tempo (although when I open the exported file in Quicktime player it works fine...)
Maybe it's an issue with Logic? Or should I change some setting for exporting the audio as an AIFF file?

yes it is possible to do this, but it is a bit complicated. Under the share menu choose export media. In the dialog that appears you can choose audio only. There are options for AAC, AIFF etc. The problem is that it will export all of the audio from your project so if you want only audio from a particular clip to be exported you need to create a new project and then copy/paste the clip into the new project. You can then export that audio as described above. An alternative is to create a new empty compound clip in the browser and open it in a timeline and copy/paste your clip into it. You can then export audio only as above. Once you have edited the audio, import it into FCPX and add as attached clip to the original clip. You can either drag the volume of the original audio down so it is not audible or detach the original audio and delete it. Not as simple as in previous versions of FCP but do-able.

  • Export audio for itunes other than aiff?

I'm exporting some audio, dv based and ultimately want it in itunes (v7) both as an apple lossless and as an aac. I can export from fcp using quicktime conversion to both apple lossless and aac, audio only, .movs. For some reason I cannot get itunes to open or play these files.
The only thing Itunes seems to like is if I export audio to aiff. Then itunes will play it (and of course I can convert it from there).
Two questions... How do I get itunes to recognize these files. They are in a format it shoud recognize, no?
If I can't, is there a quality loss by going up to aiff and then back down to apple lossless or aac?
    thanks

AIFF is lossless, so no quality loss by going out that way.

  • Export audio for post

Is there an easier way to send audio to a post house WITHOUT all the levels and adjustments?  In FCP7, I'd export OMFs with handles, etc...
I am good about naming all the audio rolls in FCPX but I adjust the levels and all that while working with clients, then it's a big pain to go through and remove it all just to export the original audio (especially if I need to go back to the edit).  An audio post loves handles and I have to manually add them ..  I have X to 7 but it's just a pain to go through all that work.
I WISH FCPX COULD EXPORT AUDIO AND IGNORE THE LEVEL AND ADJUSTMENTS so my audio guys would get the original audio (with handles),,,
    thanks

You can search the entire web for tricks on how to make this easier or more complex. But it looks like you must select all the clips by role and then use the RESET PAN and RESET Volume buttons to remove your key framing before you share the stems. Handles? Sorry, doesn't look it's possible from the timeline.
There's a feedback thingy in FCP. Be sure to offer your suggestion.
And hope someone else will have a better suggestion.

  • Need to export audio for individual slides from slideshow recording

I have a Captivate project that was recorded using full motion video whilst navigating through a PowerPoint slideshow. Some of the slides have now been updated, and I need to break up the original recording and extract audio for each individual slide. This will also make incremental updates easier for me going forward.
Is there any way to do this using Captivate?
Many thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.
    Ron.

    Hi Ron.
Do you know that each clip you record during captivate is saved as an individual Wav file?
If you go do the Audio Menu, and then Audio Management you can see which wav file is attached to which slide.
    Are you using captivate 5?
If you are, then the next step is to click on the speaker icon for the slides on the left side of the screen, and you can edit the audio track as needed or cut out the parts as needed....
If this is what your doing I can explain it better, just not sure if this is what your after.

  • Exporting audio for editing in Peak

Someone mentioned to me at some point that there is a way to edit audio from another program directly from logic. Meaning I don't have to export the audio- edit - save, and then bring it back into logic.
****, I'm not saying this right. Basically I want to edit a file that is in my audio bin without taking the file out of Logic.
Anyone know what I am talking about?
    Thanks.

You can define an external Audio editor in the Preferences (Prefs->Audio-Sample editor->external sample editor->define a path/application). It is set to Soundtrack Pro by default but you can change it to Bias I'm sure. Then just assign a keycommand like "shift+w" to open a file in the external editor. Select the Audio file in the Arrange->hit shift+w->and voila it will open in Bias.

  • AS2, how to export audio after frame 1

I searched the forum and only find AS3 solutions. Does anyone know a way to export audio for actionscript after frame 1? I unchecked the "Export on Frame 1", and what that did was to skip exporting my audio all together. "Export for Actionscript" is still checked, but I don't know how to tell it when, I guess, is the problem.
I saw one thread that said to put the audio on the timeline, so I tried it, and although the volume slider still to worked with that metthod, but the mute button, which uses the Sound.start() and Sound.stop() commands, stopped working.
Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Oh, goodness, that's too easy Thank you, kglad!  I ended up creating a "container" movie that has the preloader in it and call the main movie from there, and that seems to work, too, but your solution is much better!

  • How to Exporting MP3's for Transcription?

How do I export audio from a video file (Dvc Pro HD 59.94fps) to an Mp3 in such a way that the time-code matches the original video file?
I have been asked to create MP3's to be sent out for transcription. It is easy enough to send the video to compressor and covert to MP3 but the time-code on the Mp3 doesn't match Is it even possible to make the time-code match so that when the transcriber is done there will be a time-coded transcript?
I am running Final Cut Studio 2

Even if you export to aiff, I don't believe the format supports a timestamp. You'll probably have to create an audio-only quicktime file, which actually will allow you to use mp3 compression on the audio if you want, or a WAV file, which supports a timestamp. Wave export is available with a quicktime conversion export from FCP
Also consider that it's easy to make your sequence start at 00:00:00:00 to make it match the mp3, if that works for your workflow, thought there might be other reasons not to do this.
    Hope this helps

  • Exporting audio and video together for Mpeg2 dvd

Hi, I'm trying to export audio and video together for Mpeg2 dvd.. I changed  multiplexing to DVD but is still exporting seperately is there something im missing? thanksa

To add, with Multiplexing set to NONE, check what the Audio format is set to. If "PCM", this is an uncompressed .wav file and will result in export of .m2v video and .wav audio (I think Mac uses .aif) and use "Import as Timeline" in Encore for both clips at once. Encore will automatically transcode the audio to Dolby AC-3, do NOT mess with settings in Encore, defaults are correct. If you have CS6, then in AME audio settings, there is an option for Dolby and you can use that to create the .ac3 audio and then Encore does NOT do any transcoding to audio or video. Note that older versions will also show "Dolby" but that is a free trial of a surround encoder, not the same. You just want the stereo option available in CS6, or use PCM option is fine

  • Exporting video for iPod - audio OK but video is "white"

I know this issue has been raised before but I cannot find a clear resolution anywhere - happy to be pointed to the right place.
Some time ago I converted some old VHS home movies to DVD and they play fine. To view them via AppleTV I've converted them to MP4 using H.264/AAC via MEGUI, and they work fine in iTunes on the PC and on AppleTV.
Once they were in iTunes I tried converting them for iPod but the output is a blank white video screen though the audio is fine.
To diagnose the problem I tried loading the MP4 version directly into Quicktime (Version 7.6.8)where the play fine. Then I tried exporting them for iPod and I get the same white screen plus audio.
I've seen this issue dismissed as due to some form of DRM but I doubt that is the case here. The video is my own, the DVDs I created are not CSS protected and the MP4s are also unprotected.
I've also seen it attributed to a missing codec, but that is unlikely given both iTunes and Quicktime play the videos without a hitch.
Any clues on how to proceed?
    John

Last post before I leave things alone for a while.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime and iTunes no longer chews up lots of CPU when trying to convert one particular Quicktime created file.
I've also recreated each file again from the same source, the AVI encoded as DV-PAL with screen res of 720x576. I created a series of test cases to try to pin the problem down and I think the best exposition is the following -
    The problem
An MPEG4 file exported from Quicktime loads and plays in iTunes, plays on AppleTV and can be converted for iPod.
An almost identical MPEG4 file created by MEGUI using the x264 encoder, latest build 1649, and all the same settings as Quicktime loads and plays in iTunes, plays on AppleTV but when converted for iPod produces a file with audio but the video is "white". Looking at the file size, less than 2mb, it is pretty obvious that the video stream is simply not there.
    Clues
Quicktime Movie Inspector reports the screen resolution of the file it exported as 720x540 while for the MEGUI created file it reports a very odd 787x576. Note that Windows Media Player and YAMB (MP4Box utility) both report this same file as 720x576 which is what I would expect as MEGUI did not resize the video. As an aside, WMP and YAMB also report the Quicktime created file as 720x540 so they agree with Quicktime on that score at least.
    Obvious Question
Why does Quicktime report an incorrect screen resolution, and is this contributing to the conversion problem in iTunes?
My understanding is that MPEG4 uses 16x16 macroblocks and so the dimensions of anything to be encoded must be in multiples of 16 and 787 is not a multiple of 16.
Of course, the 787x576 screen resolution could be a red herring.
Details from Quicktime Movie Inspector follow:

  • When exporting a small area using in-out points, why does Premiere render audio for ENTIRE sequence?

I'm trying to export a small section of my timeline using in and out points... but it looks like Premiere wants to render the audio for the entire sequence and not just my in-out points.
I added a bunch of audio effects to the entire sequence so it's taking 10 minutes to render this audio. When I click on the cancel button, Premiere just freezes and I have to force shut it down.
Is it possible for premiere to only render the audio in the in-out points I originally asked for to cut down on export times?
    -Pete

Similar problem here but on a Mac.   AME is always much slower than directly exporting from Premiere, but if I start to get slow renders a reboot always sorts the issue out.

  • What is the difference between"export audio and "bounce"?

What is the difference between the "export audio" and "bounce" functions?
Do plug ins get saved with the created BWF(broadcast wave files)in the "export" function?
Or is the "bounce" method the required function to enable plugins embedded in BWF files?
Also I noticed that the "convert to SDII file" produces files not readable by ProTools.
It was my understanding that using the convert to SD II files via the audio bin is used, it would produce BWF files for use in Protools. And if you use symbols like / in your track names the files won't get converted or bounced!
Also would it not be cool if LE8 had a feature that could render BWF files small enough to send via internet file sharing and transfer apps, in other words a built in file transfer feature. Am I asking for too much.

Export audio is good to move the tracks to another application or computer for further editing.
Bounce renders the mix into a stereo track in 2 basic ways: PCM, i.e. uncompressed, or compressed (like AAC, mp3 etc.).
PCM can be AIFF, Broadcast WAV (even if it's written only WAV those are BWF), and SDII that's the standard file type of ProTools.
Note that PT doesn't use interleaved stereo files but two separate files for left and right channels, i.e. filename.l and filename.r and if you save in this way PT will accept those files for sure.
Uncompressed audio files cannot be compacted (in fact, that's why they're called uncompressed).
These days there are a lot of Internet services that permit to transfer several Gb (up to 5) for free.
If you are thinking of something like Digidelivery then you should put your attention towards Digi's products, not Apple's ones.
    cheers
